Google Mobile Blog 2007-12-06 19:33:00 Google
started an official blog to discuss all of their mobile applications and see demos of what they look like. This is great since you use to have to keep on checking on your own to see when they release a new version of one of their mobile applications and typically there wasn't a lot of information of what is new in the build. One good post you can see there already is about the Google Mobile
Updater for BlackBerry which makes it simple to stay informed and up-to-date when there are new versions or products for your BlackBerry.
Tourist Remover 2007-12-06 17:28:00 I am sure this happened to you at some point: You are trying to take a picture of a nice building, the nice view or some object but there are dozens of people walking by and getting in the middle of your shot. So you can wait for everybody to walk by and quickly take a shot, ask some friends to stop the traffic or come up with some other way to clear your shot. The good people at futureLab are trying to address this specific problem. They are offering a free online image editing tool called Tourist Remover that allows you to take a few images of the same object and ignore the fact that you have people going through and then let their application remove the unwanted objects. How does it work? All you need to do is take 3-10 pictures of the subject (you don't even need a tripod for this), upload the images to their application and then Tourist Remover averages the pictures and removes anything that only appears in one of the shots (like walking people or moving cars). The application w
Gmail 1.5.1 for BlackBerry 2007-12-06 09:17:00 Google just released a new version of their mail client for the BlackBerry

The Real eTicket 2007-12-05 20:58:00 After shifting the industry to eTicket and being able to check-in online and printing a boarding pass in your home printer, Continental is taking the next step and this week started a test program that allows the passengers flying through Houston to board flights using just a cellular phone or smart phone (like your BlackBerry). Instead of a printed eTicket, you will be able to just show the TSA agent a code that Continental sent to your cellular or PDA. This is a two dimensional barcode which stores the passenger's name and flight information. The TSA screener will have a handled scanner to confirm the bar code's authenticity and check your photo identification.

Walking While Texting 2008-03-06 08:31:00 It seems like the British have nothing better to deal with. According to this report, people that text on their phone or BlackBerry while walking in the street manage to hurt themselves pretty badly by walking into different objects. The solution - Pad the lampposts in the street so people don't bang their head in the metal. These padded lampposts will be tested in London and other cities.

CO Moving ERJs to Terminal A 2008-03-05 20:54:00 Continental is rearranging their operations in Newark Liberty. As part of this process they are relocating all the Continental Express flights (all the little planes...) to Terminal A and consolidating all the rest of the domestic flights in Terminal C. Until now they have been using Terminal A for the Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Cabos, Grand Cayman and Puerto Vallarta. This means that if you connect in Newark you might need to transfer between terminals. One way to do this is using the AirTrain, but this will require you to go through security again. If you are still in the secured area, you can change terminal by using the bus shuttle either in gate C-71 or A-28 to avoid standing in line again. This transition period will complete June 2008 and until then Continental Express flights Read more:Moving

Airborne Doesn't Work? 2008-03-05 20:31:00 Airborne is a herbal health product that is supposed to boost your immune system and help your body fight all the germs in the recycled airplane air. Basically it is a tablet with a concentrated amount of vitamins and nothing more... After pulling a double red-eye a couple of years ago (#1 Seattle-Raleigh & #2 Raleigh-London) I got very sick and I decided to start using this product. Obviously it won't cure existing colds but I thought it couldn't hurt and would probably help prevent the next one. I've been using it mostly before long flights and I must say that I never had another cold since then after flights. Could be just luck or maybe it actually helps. Yesterday, the company settled a class action lawsuit for $23.3 million for false advertising. If you kept your proof of purcha Read more:Airborne

Review: Brother HL-2170W 2008-03-01 10:48:00 About 9 years ago while I was in college I decided to invest in a laser printer. The amount of printing I had to do for class presentations, homework and all the exams with "open material" was huge and spending the crazy amount of money back then (I think it was like $600) on a printer paid back on the amount I saved on ink. I think that in the 3 years I used it in school I had to replace the toner only once (!) while before that I had to replace the ink in my other printer almost every month! Last month I decided to do this again and add a laser printer to my HP all-in-one Inkjet printer for any bulk printing I need to do. I did some research on the Internet and decided that I want to buy something basic and good without spending too much money. Another thing I tried to figure Read more:Brother

Virtual BlackBerry 2008-02-21 12:51:00 Bayalink has an interesting product that allows you to use your BlackBerry
right from your laptop. Their product is called Bayalink Liberty and is pretty much a USB dongle that you plug to your laptop. After plugging the dongle, you'll be able to manage your BlackBerry mail right from your laptop keyboard without any connectivity (send, delete, read etc) open mail attachments with a normal viewer on your laptop and more. This is a pretty nice solution for situations where you don't have Internet connectivity and can be used instead of using the BlackBerry for tethering, which is extremely slow and consumes a lot of data just to access Outlook Web Mail. The product retails for $99.99 and is available to order from their web site. You can also see a full demo on their site.

Here's the description from their web site: "Step into a cozy English pub and have a relaxing game of Checkers over a pint with your best mate. A classic game of checkers, which involves diagonal moves of uniform pieces and mandatory captures by jumping over the enemy's pieces. You’ll always find some local competition down at the pub ranging from the village idiot to the town champ."
Go Blue Devils! 2008-02-19 20:22:00 The Duke campus is a beautiful place to visit and if you haven't seen a basketball game in the Cameron Indoor Stadium - you don't know what a home court advantage is. Now there is another reason to visit Duke. According to this Engadget post, the Duke campus is about to become the world's largest 802.11n wireless network hosting more than 2,500 Aironet 1250 Series APs. Cisco also published a case study on this record deployment.
Airport Support Department 2008-02-19 20:03:00 Lets face it - Air travel is getting more annoying every week thanks to the endless delays, cancellations and security lines. There are not many things that will bring a smile on your face on your way to the airport besides getting an email notifying you of a complimentary upgrade on your upcoming flight . One of the things that I do like about airports (can you call it a hobby?) is watching for all those error messages on the monitors that are supposed to show you the flight departure and arrival status. Here are a few of the funnier ones: Is that a virus in your plane? Quick! Someone get the IP of this machine so we can change the departure times: Someone has been browsing too many web sites... To restart IE or not to restart? That is the question. Looks like one o Read more:Support

Yet Another Outage 2008-02-11 22:43:00 This is starting to get ridiculous. The BlackBerry service used to have 100% availability and it is getting worse every week. These outages like the one experienced today are getting more common. Here's what RIM announced: BlackBerry subscribers may be unable to send or receive messages. Subscribers may also be unable to register their device, roam in another location, or use other services such as Internet browsing. BlackBerry Internet Service subscribers may be unable to use the BlackBerry Internet Service web site or perform activities such as creating new accounts, accessing their internet mailbox, integrating third-party email accounts, or viewing email attachments. Is It a Pen? Is It a Camera? 2008-02-02 09:35:00 Here is an interesting future gadget I got from Bob. You have to look very closely before you realize what this really is! What does this look like? Some guy with 5 pens? Look closely. Are these pens with a tiny camera? How about now that they are in "operational mode"? Still no clue? Meet the laptop of the future! As part of the miniature revolution and the possibilities with Bluetooth connectivity, scientist can design a computer that you'll carry in your pocket. These "pens" produce the functionality of a keyboard on any flat surface, and project the monitor on any wall along with CPU and storage on the other "pens".
