Jasper 360 sporting new 65nm GPU 2007-10-11 12:59:28 As the writer of The Xbox 360 Uncloaked and Opening the Xbox, San Jose Mercury News tech writer Dean Takahashi already knows what’s inside Microsoft’s gaming machines. He also has some insight into what’s around the bend for the console, and consequently Takahashi has reported that the next planned hardware revision for the system is codenamed “Jasper
,” and will debut next August.
The Xbox 360 has already undergone a handful of hardware revisions, first with the HDMI-enabled “Zephyr” motherboard that debuted with the Xbox 360 Elite (and has since found its way into standard Xbox 360s as well). Earlier this year, Takahashi also reported on “Falcon” 360 motherboards that sport cooler-running 65-nanometer CPUs under the hood, which reduces the risk of the console’s now-infamous hardware failures.
Takahashi said that for “Jasper,” Microsoft is giving the system a matching 65nm graphics chip and smaller memory chips. Li
Halo 3 Skull Guides and Spoilers 2007-10-10 15:48:44 We are doing another post on Skull
locations. Be warned, spoilers are included!
I realize that many people are having trouble finding them, and figuring out what they do. This FAQ is meant for anyone who doesn’t know how to get a certain skull, or has trouble getting it.
What is a skull?
A skull is an object (a skull, obviously) in Halo that will allow to turn on a bonus setting to make the game more interesting. There are 13 Skulls in the game. 9 Gold Skulls, which will increase the Skull multiplier in the Meta-Game so you can get more points (and also give you achievement points), and 4 Silver skulls, which just make things more fun (these have no achievement points). Note that when you find them, they will be a gold color, although you will know that if you don’t get an achievement, it’s a Silver Skull.
What is the Meta-Game?
The Meta-Game is the same as Campaign, but you are scored for everything you do. Things like headshots and grenade sticks will give you mor Read more:Guides

Forge your own games in Halo 3 2007-10-10 14:57:40
This article concerns Halo 3’s Forge
map editor. For full reviews of Halo 3 itself, check out our Halo 3 campaign review and Halo 3 multiplayer review.
If you’re a Halo fan, by this point you have surely heard at least something about Forge, the map-tweaking utility Bungie is including out of the box with Halo 3. At first glance, it seems like a very limited tool. You cannot edit any fundamental map geometry, you can only place or remove various accoutrements such as weapons and vehicles, crates and other ornamentation, spawn points and objectives, and so on.
Don’t trust that first glance, however–it only scratches the surface of what is truly available when you start to delve deep into Forge. Though, for obvious reasons, Bungie has chosen to limit the scope of your individual additions to the supplied standard maps, the combined effects of these additions in creative ways can produce maps and games that play radically differently than anything offered official
Halo 3: Matchmaking Playlist Update 1 2007-10-10 14:41:37
Halo 3’s MatchmakingPlaylist
s, just like Halo 2’s, are dynamic and ever-changing entities. Even now in the perilous Bungie towers, we’re looking at new hoppers, gametypes and modes to test for future iterations and changes of these playlists. Multiplayer Lead Tyson Green and test wunderkind David Gasca sent the following list of changes to us — and these changes are live now:
Big Team Battle matches are now 16-player affairs.
In the Team Slayer playlist, the appearance of Shotty Snipers has been greatly reduced.
Now, when players veto Shotty Snipers, the game that results from the veto will not be Shotty Snipers.
In one-sided VIP matches, the attacking team will now see a waypoint for the VIP they are hunting.
In Lone Wolves, Slayer gametypes will appear more frequently.

A day in the life of a Halo 3 gamer 2007-10-10 14:09:00
The armored slaughterhouse:
Note: This series intends to follow my day-to-day events as they occur in the Microsoft-exclusive title “Halo 3.” Each entry will divulge important plot details for the game regarding each of its nine missions, as well as tips and tricks to help gamers “Finish the Fight.” With that, it is safe to assume spoilers will lie ahead in the succeeding text.
In every aspect where The Flood lacked, The Ark delivers and even exceeds expectations. The mission is long, challenging and offers a plethora of new vehicles.
Luckily when the mission opens, you are given a Sniper Rifle, which is extremely handy for the first segments of The Ark. Most of these objectives provide maps that have locations ideal for sniping. So be sure you save your ammunition for sure shots, and use your other weapon for anything small, such as Grunts. The reason you don’t want to snipe anything in sight is because I made that mistake and was forced to battle two Hunter

Halo sales reach 300 million for Microsoft’s Bill Gates 2007-10-09 13:24:43
With Xbox 360 console sales more than doubling and nearly 3 million
gamers playing online via XBL, Halo 3 has official become a global phenomenon. Microsoft
announced today that Halo 3 raked in $300 million in the first week and became one of the fastest selling video games ever.
Compared with the weekly average before the launch of Halo 3, Xbox 360 sales have doubled giving Microsoft bragging rights as having, quote: “The greatest lineup in the history of video games and the only console where consumers can play all the year’s biggest blockbusters”. These blockbusters that Microsoft are talking about are - of course - Halo 3 along with Madden 08, Mass Effect and Rock Band.
I am unsure as to why they are saying that the Xbox 360 is the only console where you can play these games; granted Mass Effect and Halo 3 are exclusives, but you can play Rock Band on the PS3 and Madden 08 on the GameCube, DS, PC, and the PS3. So that comment is without merit and I think someone either got a Read more:Gates

Interview with Bungie’s Fank O’Conner 2007-10-09 13:16:21 Xbox.com managed to pull Halo® 3 lead writer Frank O’Connor away from his busy (multiplayer) schedule to answer a few questions about the game.
Xbox.com: Other than the obvious improvements in visuals and audio that designing the game for Xbox 360™ allows, what will gamers find most different about Halo 3 from earlier games in the series?
O’Connor: I hope that the main thing players take away is how much Halo 3 is their game. That is to say, it’s a game that lets them play it the way they want to, whether that means joining three friends for co-op, or hooking up with eight friends to build a new Multiplayer variant in Forge, or simply share screenshots and movies with their own subset of the Xbox LIVE® community. We really have gone all out to make sure this game has more initial impact, and way more replay value than any other Bungie title to date.

Halo 3 Luckiest Plasma Grenade Toss Ever 2007-10-08 16:15:04 I’d be willing to bet this is about the luckiest plasma grenade toss ever witnessed in a game of Halo 3. There’s something a little awe-inspiring about the game physics that could send a plasma grenade halfway across the map, only to catch its target by floating backwards on an updraft. It even manages to stick itself on the enemy. It’s moments like these that make the replay feature such a special device.

Halo 3 may not be High Def 2007-10-08 16:11:56 MICROSOFT’S HALO 3 has been getting a thorough dissecting this week, even as rumours of a split from its creators continue to slither from the lips of naysayers.
Halo 3 is one of the fastest-selling games ever created, and also one of the highest scoring when it comes to critical reception. How aggravating, then, that its graphics have been found to be sub-par. Microsoft specifies that games on the Xbox 360 system must render at a resolution of at least 720p - that’s 1280×720 to you PC folks. The 360 will then either output that or upscale it to 1920×1080 for output on larger displays.
However, spurred on by the blatant jaggies apparent through the game, interwibblers have discovered that the game only actually runs at 1152×640, a difference big enough to create a noticeable drop in graphics quality.
For their part, the folks at Bungie are unimpressed with the internet sleuthing. “If you do a comparison shot between the native 1152×640 image an
Bungie says Halo 3 is not the last game 2007-10-08 16:05:40 Bungie’s Community Leader Brian Jarrard has revealed that Bungie are already at work on another Halo game, but strictly speaking it is not Halo 3 but is based on the Halo universe and is a collaboration between Bungie and Peter Jackson. Jarrard simply stated that Halo 3 was definitely not the last Bungie Halo game. Moreover, he tried to dodge a question about how they would pitch future titles as they are an independent company which suggests that such a title could actually go multi-platform.
Quote:
1UP: For all the super fans: does this mean Bungie won’t work on whatever “Halo 4″ turns out to be?
Jarrard: Well we are already at work on another Halo game — I wouldn’t call it “Halo 4″, but it is based in the Halo Universe and represents a collaboration between Bungie and Peter Jackson. Halo 3 was definitely not the last Bungie Halo game.
1UP: And perhaps most importantly, this means we’re going to finally see some progress on Pimp

Saved Films: How to Use Them
Saved Films is a cool new feature implemented in Halo 3. Now, we didn’t invent it. Replays of games are as old as the hills, and PC players have been used to “demo modes” for trillions of Eons. All we did was add a coat of spitshine, make it work on a console and give the player some very nice, almost entertaining control over the feature.
What’s a Saved Film?
Basically, it’s a recording of your movements and actions which can then be replayed in the game engine, precisely as it happened first time around. However, since it’s game data in a 3D grap

Special Objects
At some point, players stop making piles of fusion coils, and get serious about setting up their maps. It is usually around this time that they realize that you can’t turn Guardian into an awesome CTF map just by changing where the weapons spawn.
Fortunately, more control is provided. A multiplayer map in Halo 3 is configured almost entirely using objects, and the overwhelming majority of these objects are editable in the Forge.
Goal Objects
Gametypes, like Oddball or CTF, have a couple of special objects which only show up in those gametypes. These are things like flag spawns, or hill markers. These are called Goal objects.
When you load a map in the Forge, Goal objects do not show up immediately. You may have not

Advanced Forgery
On the surface, the Forge is pretty straight forward. Create fusion coil, hurl at friend, repeat ad infinitum. However, there are some other things that you may choose to make yourself aware of if you wish to master your tools.
Inventory and Budget
The number of objects you can place in the Forge is ultimately limited by two things: Inventory, which is the number of a specific object that you can place, and Budget, which is an overall total that keeps things in check.
There’s actually a third limit that kicks in when you’ve got a whole heck of a lot of objects on the map, but really, you need to be looking for trouble to bump into that one. The Forge will just squawk at y

What Is The Forge?
In the beginning, there was a single sniper rifle on Colossus. And it was not so good. One of the new multiplayer features introduced in Halo 3 is the Forge. The Forge is an object layout editor, a tool to allow players to rework the various weapons, vehicles, and scenery that Bungie’s multiplayer designers have thoughtfully placed around Halo 3’s multiplayer maps. Better still, the Forge is a multiplayer editor in every sense of the word: you can enlist the aid of a few friends to edit a map with you, in the same game, over the usual gamut of multiplayer situations (splitscreen, system link, or Xbox Live.) Of course, any gathering of friends inevitably devolves into shootings. Fortunately, the Forge also plays host to a variety of novel combat conditio

About Skulls in Halo 3
Skulls were first introduced in Halo 2, where picking up a hidden skull in the “Legendary” game difficulty would create an undesirable effect against the player (such as not being able to see anything on their HUD). In Halo 3, skulls can be found scattered throughout the levels on Normal, Heroic, and Legendary difficulty settings. Picking up “Golden” skulls will also unlock an achievement on the Xbox 360. Halo movie put on the back burner for now 2007-10-16 15:11:38 IGN has the scoop on the status on the Halo movie
project. Neill Blomkamp, the director attached to the project, provided an update on the big screen debut of Master Chief:
“The film is entirely dead. In the configuration it was in. Whatever happens with that movie, assuming that movie gets made, will be a totally different configuration,” Blomkamp informed Creativity-Online.com. “It’s not so much me as the entire vessel sank. Basically, it was a combination of; there were two studios involved that weren’t getting along in the process of making it, Universal and Fox. That kind of stuff happens, it’s a fragile industry. So the film collapsed at the end of last year, and it’s been dead, ever since then. I’ll be curious to see what happens.”
