Jakarta, Oct 14 (Xinhua) Indonesia ’s capital will introduce a &lsquo ;car free day’ every month even though an experiment last month failed due to poor publicity.The light traffic in Jakarta during the Eid-ul-Fitr (the end of fasting month of Ramadan) holiday had shown a considerable reduction in air pollution, convincing the capital’s administration to have the ‘car free day’ more frequently, Antara news agency Sunday quoted the capital’s governor Fauzi Bowo as saying.‘We estimated that 70 percent of air pollution in Jakarta came from vehicle emission,’ Fauzi said.Last month, the local government declared the main thoroughfare free from car on a Saturday. But the trial run was poorly communicated, and many people were unawares. Car price s in Vietnam are notoriously high and authorities seem keen on keeping it that way as long as they can. With 10 years until an ASEAN agreement to cut Vietnam’s car import taxes comes into effect, the government looks like it may hold onto its high auto taxes while it can. CEO of Ford Vietnam Michael Pease said the price of a 2007 Ford Escape is a breakthrough on Vietnam’s auto market. “Ford Escape 2007 is US$2,700 cheaper than last year’s model,” he says. He predicted that the vehicle – at a total price of $35,900 including taxes – would become the most popular SUV in Vietnam. Martin Winterkorn, chief executive of Germany-based automobile manufacturer Volkswagen , has been quoted as saying that the company plans to review the pricing of its US cars more aggressively and intends to remove some of the costly features not favored by the local customers, reported Reuters. The move is seen as an effort to lessen the sales gap between Volkswagen and Japan-based Toyota Motor, Reuters reported, citing the Wall Street Journal Europe as its source. Thailand september 2007 sale ranking

The second-best September haul ever closed out the third quarter with sales of 53,491 new vehicles taking the total so far this year to 451,326 units, or down 7.6% compared to the same period last year. According to figures compiled by Toyota, September’s performance surpassed the mark set last year _ 49,383 vehicles _ but it failed to better the record of 55,137 units sold in the same month two years ago. For the automobile industry, it was the third best monthly return this year _ after March (56,021) and August (54,163) _ and it helped arrest a sales slide that until then had been running at a high 9.4% compared to last year to 7.6%, a turnaround that can be attributed to improved political and economic conditions. CRANFIELD, Bedfordshire, UK (Oct. 15, 2007) - How far can the average customer drive a Nissan QASHQAI on one tank of fuel? The entire length of the UK and more if they drive economically. Seven test drivers from the Nissan Technical Centre Europe (NTCE) in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, proved this recently when they took turns piloting a 1.5dCI QASHQAI from Land’s End on the southwest coast of England to John O’Groats on the northern tip of Scotland without once stopping to refuel. The drivers, who set off at 6 am on Sept. 25, averaged 67.35 mpg (4.2 l/100 km) on the 867 mile (1,387 km) run - a common route for UK endurance and economy tests. To their delight, there was still another seven litres of fuel left in the tank when they crossed the finish line at 17:30 the next day, enough to cover a further 110 miles (176 km). Honda sales up 32 percent in China

Shanghai. October 19 (Gasgoo.com) ¨C Honda Motor Co, Japan’s second-largest car maker, sold a total of 297,536 cars in Chinese market from January to September, up 31.7 percent year on year, said a Reuters report earlier this week.The report shows that of the automaker’s two joint ventures in China , sales at Guangzhou Honda climbed 12.1 percent to 208,227 units while sales of Dongfeng Motor surged by 121.7 percent to 89,309 units. In September alone, Honda sold 45,121 vehicles in China, up 39.3 percent from a year earlier, of which sales of Guangzhou Honda and Dongfeng Motor were 32,322 units and 12,799 units, respectively. A senior Honda official told Reuters earlier this year that his firm is on course to hit a level of 400,000 units in China this year, up 24% from 2006.
