Fashion Week Spring 08: John Galliano
2007-10-10 13:47:30
Paris Fashion Week was pretty exciting this year, and John Galliano really did it up. Of course. But flashiness aside, in the midst of all the eye candy were pretty, wearable pieces in gorgeous colors. I want! I had to show you, so here’s a glimpse: Source.   john galiano, paris fashion week

Put an End to Bad Denim
2007-10-10 13:15:47
Tired of people wearing bad denim? Who isn’t?  Well, now there’s a forum for you to register your distaste.  RateMyDenim .com was introduced on one of my favorite sites, Denimology, today. It’s a fun new site where you can vote on how bad or good a featured jean-wearer is and, if your so inclined (and brave!) you can even upload your own photo for an appraisal.  I don’t think I’m quite their yet, but it’s pretty fun to be on the other side. Check it out! See the latest denim styles here.   Denimology, jeans, rate my denim

Handbag Deal: Helen Welsh Shopper
2007-10-09 12:12:59
This Helen Welsh shopper just might be the perfect bag. The size makes it ideal for everyday because you can stuff all your junk in it, but the croc-embossed leather makes it easy to dress up for nighttime. It’s a pretty luxurious purse–it’s the kind of purse that’ll get you lots of approving glances. Plus, I love when a handbag has lots of pockets as this one does, in addition to three inside compartments. Lovely! Top 5 Double Breasted Jackets
2007-10-08 14:07:47
Adding a double breasted coat to your wardrobe is a savvy fashion move since the style brings a touch of polish to most ensembles. I’m especially fond of the shorter varieties with feminine detailing (like the Juicy Couture 3/4 Puffed Sleeve Jacket, $158 above), which take jeans and skirts to a whole new, more put together, level. Also cute is the pairing of a double breasted jacket with tweed or wool shorts or mini skirt with tights and flats. Layer with tees and up the chic factor. Armani Exchange Crop Double Breasted Jacket, $89.99 (was $120) Bloomingdales Peacoat Sweater, $64.99 Soia & Kyo Candy Plaid Coat, $315 Urban Outfitters Alpha Cropped Peacoat, $150 Double Breasted Jackets Tip: Always choose your best fit. If there is any pulling across the chest, go up a size because if its too tight, the look is no good. armani exchange, bloomingdales, double breasted jackets, jackets, juicy couture, soia & kyo, Tobi, urban outfitters

Denim Deal: 7 For All Mankind ‘Georgia’
2007-10-04 12:53:38
These high waisted jeans by Seven are super cute. The faded wash is pretty natural, giving them a nice vintage look, and I love love love light colored denim in fall/winter. A dreamy ensemble would include these jeans worn with a black turtleneck sweater, a brown leather jacket and brown boots. Yes, indeed. Project Runway Season 4
2007-10-03 14:09:34
Here’s the new cast of Project Runway (a.k.a. the best show on television). They look like a pretty enthusiastic bunch, and Tim Gunn says they are “the most talented group of designers [yet], in terms of point of view and execution”(source). Well, their bios are certainly impressive, and many of the hopefuls are already in the middle of some pretty illustrious careers–lots of them have had their creations featured in prestigious stores and magazines as well as on the bods of celebrities. As usual, their backgrounds are deliciously diverse with two models, a former dancer, two first generation Americans, a designer who gets her inspiration from marionettes, a Korean immigrant, and a red carpet gown maker who hails from Ramallah counted among the ranks. Exciting! Gutwrenchingly, we have to wait until November 14 for the extravaganza to begin. Ugh! That’s more than a month away still. But, I guess the anticipation is just part of the fun. Alas, I feel so sorr

Shoe Deal: Dolce Vita Patent Leather Pump
2007-10-02 12:14:40
I like Dolce Vita because they design classic shoes with interesting touches. Take these patent leather pumps–they’re constructed like old school high heels, but the color takes them to a new level, no? I like that slightly- pointy-but-still-round toe. They would look hot with black tights or a blue dress or grey pants. Ah, the possibilities are endless. Plus, they’re only $41.40 at Shopbop right now, which is quite a feat considering they started at $138. They also come in alabaster, but those are still full price. Oh yeah, and check out this season’s Dolce Vita boots. dolce vita, good deals, pumps, shoes, shopbop

Milan Fashion Week Spring ‘08
2007-10-01 13:39:10
Here are some highlights from Milan ’s Fashion Week &lsquo ;08: Dsquared Designers: Dean and Dan Catan Popstar Rihanna started this show and ended it, clad in super sexy, bosom-baring gowns that were indicative of the rest of the Dsquared show. The influence of another singer, Amy Winehouse loomed with the plethora of cat’s eyeliner. Trends: caftans, halter tops, key holes, intricate cut outs, yellow, zippers, off the shoulder, ruffles, tan leather, feathers, royal purple, jewel trim, Grecian details and cigarettes. Dolce & Gabbana Dolce & Gabbana was definitely channeling the 80s this time around. The theme was free-hand painting, which gave way to a collection that was vibrant, young and way fun. As a friend of mine remarked, “Ah, very 80s fashion student avant garde.” And, yes, a little splattered paint never hurt anyone, especially when the splattered upon garment is exquisitely tailored. Designers: Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce Trends: brocad

LA Fashion Week Spring ‘08: Heatherette
2007-10-16 16:46:46
I was lucky enough to go to the Heatherette show at Mercedes-Benz Spring ‘08 LA Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios (wow, that’s a mouth full) last night. As we all know, it’s been unusually warm this year throughout the country. Trend Alert: Black and White
2007-10-15 13:38:43
As Jennifer Garner and Kate Hudson demonstrate, black and white is quite the current trend. The look is especially fresh for nighttime since white is so unexpected after dark. LA Fashion Week Spring 08: Model Mishap

Some poor model fell in a hole at the “Who’s Next, What’s Next“ show in LA, and it was caught on film. Suede Deal: Urban Outfitters Booties
2007-10-18 13:34:11
These Canyon Suede Booties are irresistible.  I love the wooden heel effect and the detailed stitching.  And they’re the perfect height–you can pull them up or fold them over.  If you have muscular or prominent calves, this bootie length is made especially for you  because it cuts off at the most flattering point (trust me, I have personal experience with the cause).  I love boots like this with jeans tucked in or with tights and a flowy skirt. $49.99 at Urban Outfitters (old price= $68) Click here for more Urban Outfitters shoe deals. urban outfitters

LA Fashion Week Spring ‘08: Grey Ant
2007-10-17 13:40:00
Day 3 at the Smashbox Studios brought the best show yet: Grey Ant. The show was held in the Lightbox, a relatively small room where they packed us in hot and tight, but the claustrophobia and dire thirst were well worth it. The stage was set minimally with a white runway and a backdrop sans pizzaz, which worked well with the collections’ futuristic vibe. Well, I say futuristic, but the past was definitely present, too with the ever-presence of the line’s signature high-waisted jeans as well as a tie dyed garment or two. Paneling was a key element of the show, and designer Grant Krajecki sent out lots of sexy strapless dresses with sharp lines, but a laid-back element also persevered. There were plenty of over-sized, slouchy caftan tops that added nice contrast to highly structured pieces. Other trends on the catwalk included bandeau tops, delicate layering pieces, high-waisted trousers that brought Katherine Hepburn to mind, hot pants, and wide leg/platform shoes combos

Bag Deal: Cole Haan Convertible Tote
2007-10-25 12:52:09
I really love the color of this Cole Haan handbag and all the cute details. The buckle is adjustable, so you can cinch the top for a different look, and it also has a removable shoulder strap, which I prefer because I like options. Notice how good it looks with grey (a.k.a. this season’s “it” color). Were this bag mine, I’d use it to finish off a grey American Apparel v-neck and dark jeans tucked into tan riding boots. My oh my, would I look cute! Cole Haan ‘Village Medium Convertible ’ Tote, $283.90 (old price=$425) cole haan, nordstrom

Fashion Comes to The Great Wall of China
2007-10-24 13:02:36
Quite spectacularly, The Great Wall of China was the backdrop for the most recent Fendi show. Karl Lagerfeld’s intention to stage the show at the World Heritage Site was announced in February, when he said, “It’s all about the opening of China, not just economically, but also from an artistic and cultural point of view.” Yet, even having all these months to get used to the idea didn’t prepare me for how amazing the whole event turned out to be. It wasn’t the clothes so much as the staging that was so monumental. Actually, a lot of the designs were from the Milan show, with a small collection put together for this particular catwalk. But still, it was beautiful and glamorous, both qualities for which I am a sucker. And so is Kate Bosworth: Check out the video footage here: YouTube - Watch Link Okay, now it’s your turn: At what international monument or site would you stage a fashion show?  Can little ‘ol you top Lagerfeld? fendi fash

Denim Deal: Rich & Skinny Jeans
2007-10-23 12:53:52
These Rich & Skinny (I know, but I think they’re being ironic) jeans have the perfect silhouette–they’re kind of like those old Levis Sta-Prest jeans. When pants have a higher waist and a flared leg like this, the effect is really elongating and flattering on a lot of body types, from curvy to lanky. It’s also nice that there are so many jeans out now without distressing or faux fading since a nice, dark even wash seems so fresh at the moment. Boutique of the Week: Gallery Couture
2007-10-22 13:44:17
Gallery Couture is the brainchild of brothers David and Afshin Haghani, who have been bringing “good taste” to Long Island’s Gold Coast since the opening of their first shop in 1991. Now, with two stores under their belts–the Haghanis made their second retail endeavor in 2001– each season their offerings include must-have pieces by designers like Nanette Lepore, Robert Rodriguez, Elie Tahari, Rebecca Taylor and lots more. While David Haghani is the business mind of Gallery Couture, Afshin Haghani is the buyer and the man behind the look of the boutique. Well traveled, Afshin keeps his fashion savvy well tuned with trips to Europe and Asia, where he checks out upcoming collections, cutting-edge designs and emerging trends. The super chic results of such research are seen in the fine contemporary fashions and designer clothing that grace the racks of the exclusive shop. But you don’t have to make a trip to Long Island to shop Gallery Couture because th

I can’t get enough of this Cleo & Patek Tuscany Briefcase , $172.99.  The super-clean, brilliantly simple design of this bag charms me to no end.  It’s also the lemon yellow color that keeps me coming back to it, although it looks pretty sharp in cognac (translation:tan), too. I don’t really have much to keep in a briefcase, but I’d be willing to pretend for this handbag. Boot Deal: Franco Sarto Novella Boots
2007-11-01 12:40:49
These Franco Sarto Novella Round Toe Boots are kind of perfect. They’re right in between being fancy and casual, so your outfit gets to decide how dressed up you are. Not to mention, that heel looks pretty forgiving. I have a pair of Banana Republic round toe boots with a skinny heel, and I can never quite wear them casually, but these are good daytime boots. I read the user reviews of these shoes, and almost all were positive. A big plus for many of the women who bought these was that the calf size can be adjusted with those stylish straps. And since legs come in all shapes and sizes, this is a deal clincher for a lot of women. Plus, they all said that the expandable calf made them great for tucking in jeans. The Worst “Sexy” Celebrity Halloween Costumes
2007-10-31 13:36:57
Just because they’re celebrities doesn’t mean they have good Halloween Costume ideas. In fact, these are some of the worst I’ve seen. Really, the whole over-the-top-sexy costume is so tired and especially on celebs (that means you, Dennis Rodman). Hello! Don’t they get enough attention already? I present to you this year’s Icky Halloween Costume Hall of Shame: Britney Spears goes as a&rdquo ;sexy” wench. Aubrey O’Day goes as a &ldquo ;sexy” football player in clear heels. Averil Levigne goes as a…..? Paris Hilton goes as a “sexy” Alice in Wonderland, which seems a tad inappropriate considering Alice is suppose to be a child! Leave it to Paris. Dennis Rodman as a poorly dressed woman. All photos from DListed. aubrey o day, averil levigne, britney spears, celebrities, dennis rodman, halloween costumes, paris hilton
