Ralph’s And CVS
2007-10-25 14:31:29
Today’s shopping day was excellent in the savings department but it did take longer then I had planned. Not because I wasn’t organized but I had to go back to the checker twice at Ralph s to get prices fixed and CVS didn’t have the razors I was looking for on the shelf so I had to wait for them to find the “last one”. CVS has Bounty paper towels on sale right now. 8 pack for $3.99. There was a serious rush on these, it’s a good thing I went today. Everyone seemed to have one in their arms or cart. I spotted two packs left on an end cap and a lady with about eight in her cart headed for said end cap. As she was grabbing for the first one and ready to get the second one, I swooped up behind her and grabbed it. Anyway, at CVS I bought the paper towels and a package of Bic Comfort razors. The razors were $4.99 but I received $4.00 in Extra Bucks. This is the first time I have been to CVS since they started this program. I prefer to have my savings right

Stock Up
2007-10-25 00:55:00
We currently have 15 bottles of shampoo and conditioner sitting on our shower window ledge. Why? Because I can’t pass up a deal (of course, having choices is always nice too). If I find something on sale and have a coupon for it, I buy it. Even if we don’t need it at that very moment, at some point we will. We have a complete “back up” cabinet full of essentials such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soaps, deodorants, razors, dish soap, laundry detergent, toilet paper, etc. This is a great way to save money. Everything you buy will be a bargain or even free with coupons and sales. Plus, your guaranteed to always have what you need on hand. This means no more panic runs to the store which lead to over paying. When you need something and need it now, price generally isn’t a concern. Necessities will always be necessities so buy on sale, use your coupons, and stock up. You may not need it today but you just might next week. Share This

Inspiration
2007-10-24 14:57:51
Money Saving Mom has inspired me to spend the extra time finding and getting better deals. To this point I have done most of my shopping at Ralphs. I do this because it’s convenient and because they double coupons. But the truth is I do have the time to go other places. I enjoy getting good deals and I feel like it’s a good use of my time. With that, I’ve set up a schedule of days and stores along with my weekly list. I don’t drive so I can’t do every store at once. I’m not about to bring a cart on the bus so if it doesn’t fit in my backpack and/or arms, it doesn’t come home. Sometimes I miss out on great deals because of this, especially on water. But, I’m not going to carry jugs of water home so we will continue to get that delivered. Although it is sometimes less convenient, using public transportation is way cheaper then driving. Today was Albertsons & Vons. These stores are right across the street from each other and less t

Lost Pennies
2007-10-23 00:41:07
I spotted two pennies today. One at Ralphs and one at Trader Joes. We were in a hurry and there were people all around both of the pennies so I didn’t pick either one up. However, it did remind me that I found a penny several days ago. I believe I was walking to work but I could be wrong. October Found Money Totals : .20 Money Found Since 09/01/07 : $1.83 Share This

Short posts that I found informative or entertaining this week. The most entertaining post I read this week was at How I Save Money. The missed penny. Blunt Money showed us the frugal way to unclog a drain. Going Like Sixty showed off his impressive haiku skills but mostly I just like Chunk. And last but not least, My Money Blog gave us two new opportunities to make an easy $100. Share This

Dreamhost

By using code 101010 at Dreamhost you can get a year of website hosting for $9.30. I’ve heard mixed reviews for Dreamhost but for nine bucks you really can’t go wrong. On a side note, you can still receive free hosting for a year from HostICan (my current host). The difference is Dreamhost is nine bucks now, HostICan is $45.50 up front and then you get a refund in six to eight weeks. Share This

Schmap
2007-10-26 15:35:11
I received an email a few weeks ago from Schmap about a photo I took at this years pride parade in San Diego. The email asked if they could use my photo in the San Diego guide. Today I received another email saying it had been chosen as one of the many. I’m not sure why they would have picked the photo they did, it’s not all that great. I have others that are much better but who knows. Anyway, even though tons of peoples Flickr photos are on the site, I still think it’s pretty cool mine is up there too. Share This

Perfect
2007-10-26 01:26:11
I took $2.00 with me today to buy a soda on the way home from the store as I knew the caffeine withdrawal would be setting in at about that time. Unfortunately, there was an issue with the cereal I bought so I had to go back and purchase it separately. The box ended up being .50 and I didn’t want to use my card for that so I broke down and used my soda money. As I was walking by the convenient store crying inside because I knew I didn’t have enough cash for my soda, I looked down and what did I see? One penny and one dime! What does my soda cost? $1.61. Perfect . All became well in the universe. October Found Money Totals : .67 Money Found Since 09/01/07 : $2.30 Share This

Found Money Revisited
2007-11-03 00:55:10
Funny thing happened today.. before work I deleted all of my found money posts. It’s not that I’m not picking up change anymore… because I certainly am. I just decided the blog is becoming to random and I’m down sizing I guess… Anyway, my husband walked up to get me from work today. We stopped off at the convenient store on the way home to grab something to drink. There was a penny on the floor by the counter but to save my husband the embarrassment I didn’t bend down to get it. He thanked me on the way out and we continued on our way. About a block from our house, I spot what I thought might be money but it was really dark so I wasn’t sure. I reached down to grab it and sure enough it was a wadded up $10 bill. I said “Woo! Ten dollars, cool!” and we went home. We got inside and as we started to do the ten dollar dance I examined the bill more closely to find it wasn’t a ten dollar bill after all. It was a hundred dollar bi

CVS Is Exhausting
2007-10-31 16:59:47
I made my weekly sale list yesterday and after getting close to zero sleep last night I set off this morning for CVS, Albertsons, and Vons. I am going to start shopping at a different CVS. The one I go to is small, always crowded, and I end up spending way to much time there as something always goes wrong. Today while trying to purchase the Tums that are on sale this week, they didn’t ring up right and I didn’t get my extra bucks. Although I had the ad in my hand along with the exact product pictured, the cashier kept insisting that I didn’t buy the right item. She finally called the manager when she clued in that I wasn’t going anywhere. Of course, I did have the right product and cashier lady didn’t scan my CVS card before ringing up Tums, apparently that makes a difference. I spent $10.18 and received $7.58 in extra bucks for next week. So, for $2.60 I bought the following : 2 Nestle Crunch Bars (free coupons) 1 bottle of Sunsweet Prune Juice (on sale

Soda On Credit
2007-10-29 23:57:40
During the last two days my husband and I have basically been out spending money. We have nothing fabulous to show for it but we just wanted to “buy stuff”. So, that’s what we did. Tip #1 : This is not how you live frugally Tip #2 : Buying crap you don’t need every once in awhile is fun. Tip #3 : Splurging occasionally makes being frugal the rest of the time easier Anyway, while out today I noticed many of the soda machines now have credit card slots. How cool is that? I hardly ever have cash on me so being able to get a soda or water with my card is a big plus. A waste of money? Probably, but sometimes your just thirsty. Another great thing about this is the soda machine won’t take your money anymore. There is nothing worse then sticking your dollar in, pushing your selection and nothing happens. No soda, no dollar, just you looking at the machine with sad eyes continuing to push the button and the change return like it’s magically going to give you

Sandwich Anyone?
2007-11-07 15:16:19
Oh my god. A few days ago this guy from Henrys gave my husband a huge bag of all different types of bread that was almost to it’s sell date. In turn we have been eating lots of sandwiches on this tasty deluxe bread. Today was no different, I made myself a ham and cheese with lettuce and poppyseed dressing. It was delicious. My husband came home for lunch and exclaimed “oh, that looks tasty!” I replied with “well, let me make you one baby!” I proceed to the kitchen like the good wife that I am to make my hard working husband a sandwich. I cut the bread open, distribute the cheese, and go to put the ham on only to notice the ham is full of mold! White and green growing all over the just bought ham that I had just finished eating! I just bought this ham so it should not be growing things but forget that because I just hate a huge ham sandwich. I have consumed moldy ham and I am not pleased. Share This

Vons, CVS, and Albertsons
2007-11-07 14:53:57
Last night after trying one more time to get the used less then ten times printer to work with my Macbook I broke down and bought a new one. I’ll finally be one of the cool kids that can print coupons. So yea for that! Today I went to CVS with list in hand but only ended up leaving with two boxes of Advil PM for a grand total of $1.37. Advil PM is on sale this week for $2.99. I had a $1.50 off coupon I was going to use but when I was grabbing a box I noticed a couple of them had $2.00 coupons on the box. I quickly put my $1.50 coupon away, grabbed the two boxes with $2.00 off coupons and away I went. I used a $1.00 Extra Bucks I had to get to the final total. Vons - I can’t believe I’ve missed out so long on Vons doubling coupons. They don’t advertise it as much as Ralphs does and it simply slipped by me. This week they have Lever 2000 body soap and Excedrin on sale for $3.50 each. In last Sunday’s paper there was a coupon for $2.00 off the Excedrin, Vons
