Mock Crest
2007-12-07 22:32:00
The PattyPusher returns with Burger-FreeBurger, and finds Mock Crest after a recent cyclecross race:Let’s start by saying Patty Pusher is not that bright. He actually pays money to ride his bicycle in the worst circumstances imaginable. After the recent USGP of cyclocross race at PIR, where conditions were “epic” (see pic 1), he had a powerful craving for an “epic” burger to match. Guided by some kind of mystic forces, probably the gale force winds of the day, he miraculously landed at Mocks Crest Tavern with his sherpa, Burger-FreeBurger. While Burger-FreeBurger has taken a vow of critterless eating, she was a fabulous guide in steering the pair to hot toddies that brought sweet sweet circulation back to Patty Pusher’s toes. Once able to focus on the menu instead of frozen appendages, he quickly zeroed in on the words Burger, Swiss, and Tots. Done and done. The burger arrives and is luckily documented before it disappears. While possibly not deserving the “Portland

Burger Tour: ERS-ONE/Magneto - Le Bon (Santa Barbara)
2007-12-07 13:00:00
The Burger Blogger is all over the place lately and thinks he finally found the best burger in the Santa Barbara area. You think the term "California Style" toppings has to include sprouts by now right?By far the best burger in Santa Barbara .I had the "Bison Burger" with three cheese, seasoned fries, and some fancy-ass $20 beer (I think we got ripped off).My friend Marina had the Bison bleu cheese hammy with bacon, that was the ish, best one. That's what I'm getting next.Le Bon138 East Canon PerdidoSanta Barbara, CA (805)965-7025

Burger Tour: ERS-ONE/Magneto (Atlanta)
2007-12-06 12:15:00
You never know where the Burger Blogger shows up these days (lots more coming soon). You can see him at the Goodfoot (2845 SE Stark) this Friday for his monthly night the "First Friday Super Jam":Went to Atalanta over night for a meeting and walked around (watch out for the crackhead zombies).I had a good bison burger at at place called Max Lager's, a brewery. The next day went to a place I saw on the way to Max Lager's brewery. "Stake and Ale". I saw their menu had a burger and thought for sho... this is a winner, I try any burger form a steak house, but I missed the boat. Burger is only served during lunch so I had the next best thing. Escargot, onion soup and Santa Barabra wine (French things were in my head).Max Lager's320 Peachtree St NEAtlanta , GA 30308(404) 525-4400Steak & Ale60 International Blvd NEAtlanta, GA 30303(404) 577-6770

Hollywood Burger Bar
2007-12-05 16:02:00
Pickles & Ammo and the Hamburgler visit one of Portland's burger classics, the Hollywood Burger Bar. Somewhere in the 1920's this was a trolly ticket sales booth, then a dry cleaners before becoming the burger joint we know today since 1954.Inka (pictured above in all her Betty Boop glory) has owned this joint for about 18 years now and is still serving the burger that is winning head-to-head battles.Pickles & Ammo hit the bullseye and put down a swiss/mushroom/bacon while the Hamburgler kept to the classic bacon/cheese. Burgers start at $5.00 with fries/potato salad/cottage cheese/chips and top off with the "Hollywood Ultimate Double" for $8.00 with two patties/bacon/swiss and cheddar. Gardenburger option available as well.Hollywood Burger Bar4211 NE Sandy Blvd.Portland, OR 97213(503)288-8965M/F 7:30-4:00pmSat: 8:00-4:00pm

Burger Tour: Tittsworth
2007-12-04 19:10:00
That Baltimore sound is getting pretty big these last couple of years. Think I'm joking? Check out that tour schedule. Try and catch him before he gets on another plane (what no Portland?).You could watch his MTV interview, listen to his XFM mix and do the Ed Lover dance, buy his records, or stalk him on MySpace if you are into that sort of thing. Or just go to New York and catch him at The Rub.Today he fills us in on some Australian burgering:The "Coat of Arms Damper." Damper being the bun, a traditional Aussie soda bread. "Coat of Arms" referring to the fact that you are eating both of their national animals in one stop shop! Ground Kangaroo burger w/ Emu prosciutto (the bacon looking stuff). Yummy!Oh and you can keep up with him at: Tittsworth.com

Tonic Lounge
2007-12-03 22:38:00
CondimentSpreader has the skills to pay the bills (and doesn't rhythm "commercial" with "commercial"):If you need to pay your comcast bill and find yourself starving on Sandy, you could do worse than grabbing a burg at the Tonic Lounge. On the "Chef's Specialties" menu, they've got a 'Stuffed Burger' that's pretty darn good. It looks like they take two really thin patties and grill them together with Bleu cheese, pepper bacon and thinly sliced layered ham between them. They also employ that awesome technique of buttering the bun and then grilling it slightly. Very nice. Really thin and long fries with excellent crunch. At $6.75 a pretty nice deal.Tonic Lounge3100 Ne Sandy BlvdPortland, OR 97232(503) 238-0543

Blueplate
2007-12-19 16:23:00
SpecialSauce (got a break from all that modeling for Sweetpea Bicycles) and the Hamburgler continued the slider quest at Blueplate:These sliders were fantastic. Some kind of basil secret sauce made it all worth the trip. $6.00 for 2 sliders with mashed potatoes. Add bacon or tomato for $1.00.Would have to agree with Food and Ink that this place is pumping out better burgers on a electric skillet then many places around town. Go figure.Blueplate308 SW Washington StPortland, OR 97204(503) 295-2583

California: Canters Deli

We are starting to get a bit worried about BurgerBlogger's colon. He's a soldier though, and has the daunting challenge of sampling Southern California (the hamburger mecca of the world) burgers.:So Ryan B and I went to Canters Deli and ordered the burger. Hooked it up propa. Add jack and cheddar and Pastrami. Really good.We sat at the bar on Sunday night and listened to some good comedian folks. I gotta big up the bartenders and Ryan B for giving a hand with the lighting of the burger shot. The bartender said that Carl's Jr. shot their ad for the pastrami burger there.Canters Deli419 N Fairfax AveLos Angeles, CA 90036

Editorial Note
2008-03-15 02:31:00
We got a little backed up recently and now sitting on a ton of non-Portland burgers from Las Vegas, Mexico, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, ect. Please excuse us for a week as we take a little burger tour and consume all of them. Lots more Portland burgers coming soon!

Nevada: Burger Palace (Las Vegas)
2008-03-11 12:00:00
Looks like Hamburgler sneaked away from all the other Portlander's in Las Vegas last week for the bar/nightclub/restaurant convention (of which due to OLCC a large portion of the products you probably couldn't legally use in this state):This is just a warning. There are quite a few decent burgers in Vegas so don't go getting suckered into this one hidden inside the Imperial Palace .See that one bite? That was the first and last bite. Horse meat. Avoid. The "Dealertainers" there are kind of a funny gimmick though. If you gamble you can have your dealer be Alice Cooper (or at least a tall version), Madonna, Mike Jackson, The Blues Brothers, ect. Just wished they had a Rodney Dangerfield and they would of had my money.Burger Palace at Imperial Palace3535 Las Vegas Blvd SLas Vegas, NV 89

Nevada: Le Burger Brasserie (Las Vegas)
2008-03-10 14:00:00
Pickles&Ammo and Hamburgler find a proper breakfast somewhere in another long hallway between the Paris and Bally's:When your theme is French of course all the burgers are titled with "Le". This place has the infamous $777.00 "777 Burger " made with Kobe Beef and Maine Lobster (caramelized onions, brie cheese, crispy prosciutto, and 100-year aged balsamic vinegar served with a bottle of Dom Perigon). They also have a "gourmet" toppings list of crabmeat, seared Foie Gras, smoked salmon, and grilled shrimp.Pickles&Ammo had the "Le Paris" up there with brie, caramelized onions, and smoked bacon. Yes, the onion ring tower named after the Eiffel Tower (kind of like if Red Robin was in Paris..........street signs indoors...) Hamburgler kept it simple. Cheddar burger with Pomme Frites (thought

Mexico: El Paraiso Beach Club (Tulum)
2008-03-09 14:14:00
Whataburger! (aka Lelo In Nopo) has a Hamburguesas warning:Trust me, you don't want this one. Especially since it was over $10 US dollars, yet consisted of two patties of that pressed-together-meat. Blecht. And the "wild mushrooms"? I'd say they wildly jumped out of a can. However, the view kicked ass. And the fact that it was then followed by a nap on the beach bed. The strawberry margarita made things all better.El Paraiso Beach Club- Tulum BeachTulum, Mexico Hamburger with cheese and wild mushrooms, $10--------------------She also notes that your can get a burger at the Mayan ruins as well:Maya Burger! Washington: Norma's (Olympia)
2008-03-08 13:00:00
Sir Thomas Burger:Sometimes simply seeing where the road leads you offers more rewards than the intended destination, and Norma's Burger is one of those treasures. I ran across this gem heading north just looking for a place to eat that wasn't fast food (not an easy thing to find on I-5 between Portland and Seattle). This is a classic American burger hop with the decor of a suburban family room complete with oak furnishings, pastel colors, floral prints and a smell of potpourri. None of this is particularly interesting on its own, but this family has a proud Veteran in it and there's tons of patriotism to be found in every direction. The art was truly amazing – more Bald Eagles and U.S. flags than most federal buildings. Beyond a mere shrine in support of the troops, this place acts more

He was moved to Portland in 2006 and will be restored. The same owners acquired the Burger Family in 2007. University Grill
2008-03-07 12:45:00
PattyDaddy:I noticed the University Grill finally opened so I stopped in for lunch. Pictured is the Bacon Cheeseburger. Comes with the usual stuff on a usual bun for $5.75. Fries set you back another $1.50. I ordered medium rare, but the patty is so thin there's no way it could come cooked to order. Really nothing wrong with the burger, but you'd think since they have "Burgers" on their sign, they'd set themselves apart somehow. No such luck. It was just a commercial burger with Tillamook cheese... pretty much the same thing you can get at Burgerville (but if they're using Country Natural Beef, they're keeping it a secret). The bartender/waitress was friendly. With one beer and tip I got out for $14.00, which seems like a lot... I'm still hungry. (It was served on a really small pl

Morrison Hotel
2008-03-06 13:34:00
Now with hamburgers. GrillMarks gets the waistline:The Morrison Hotel is suppose to have a new menu to go with one of the best bottle beer lists in Portland so we ponied up to the bar to check it out. Focus seems to be on Med inspired food. Looks fairly decent, my co consistories had a chicken skewers and a Greek salad respectively. Both were reported to be good although I was not cut into a share cause they are greedy types. Since this is Portland Hamburgers I was focused on the the MoHo burger which is $7.50 and for $1.5 more you can get brie and sauted mushrooms. I opted for the plain burger which was nice, well seasoned, and meaty. Good toasted bun and decent produce, over all a very solid burger. Options for sides were a salad or fries. My choice was for deep fried goodness and I end

Maine: Silly's (Portland)
2008-03-03 13:15:00
Just to make things confusing SideO'Fries keeps us up on Portland East (if you read the NY Times you know Portland is ready to franchise our cities name and open them up all over the country).Greetings from the other Portland! Silly 's is one of the town's funkier establishments and they were standing room only this Sunday afternoon. This single burger ($5.75) is a 1/3 lb served here with avocado sauce ($2 extra) and sweet potato fries ($1 extra). They also do veggie burgers and double or triple patties and will top them with bacon, chili, cole slaw, or various cheeses. Came with lettuce, mild white onions, pickle slices, but no tomato. That's sweet mustard sauce for dipping the sweet potato fries, which were big and thick, and much better than the regular fries someone else ordered.

Vita Cafe
2008-03-02 11:58:00
Hamburgler and DoubleCheese report:Ughh. Guess it serves us right for ordering a burger here. Sorry, but can't find anything good to say. Burned beyond well-done hockey-pucks, dry as a bone and super thin (if these weren't frozen Win-Co burgers they did a good job of emulating them). Not sure what the theory is here on serving these things. Should have went with the veggieburger. Pretty much summed up DoubleCheese's thoughts.Hamburgler just put it down as par for course (desensitized at this point). Kinda hoping for Scremadelica, but got Soup Dragons instead (would go for dog's balls/cat's arse, but always confuse which one means good, and which one means bad).$21.50 for two burgers, two fries, and one beer. Shackled!

Yorgo's
2008-03-01 14:00:00
AmericanCheese finds self-medication in North Portland and has a new favorite classic diner style burger:This place is quickly becoming my new favorite bar in North Portland. Not only for the cheap beer specials, but also because of the burgers.Pic is of the standard bacon cheeseburger. Grilled bun, ample special sauce (on request), crisp bacon. Checks in at $5.50 with chips, add $1.00 for fries. Seriously one of the best burgers in town, IMO. Nothing fancy, but this is definitely not a high class joint.Every day of the week has a serious drink special and there's an old Big Buck Hunter machine on site if needed.Recommended.Bonus Pickle!Yorgo's5421 N Greeley AvePortland, OR 97217(503) 283-0676
