Blog Design, Important & Overlooked
2007-10-26 18:34:36
Blog Design is one of the most important aspects of your blog itself, it is the front door, where people who walk in may already be on their way out if your blog is ugly, badly organized and does not have flow to it. Being a visitor to countless website I do and probably many other people out there too like organized navigation with some quick links to good articles. Some people are still getting their designs wrong, they put all these recent articles in a column that is miniscule with a font that does not differ from their background hence making it a big blur. In addition to this some people decide that it is perfectly fine to stick five, six, seven or even eight 125×125 ad buttons on their site when they look as out of place as a rickshaw in the streets of new york. GET SERIOUS ABOUT DESIGN I am asking everyone to get serious about their blog design, if you want a new design but you don’t know how to do it…guess what go to www.elance.com and hire a web designer w

Next Internet Millionaire: Blogging, Web 2.0
2007-10-26 06:53:39
The Next Millionaire is drawing to a close, episode 10 is out now and after the elimination only three contestants remain. Who will be the next internet millionaire? The series has been a really great success, the concept is fantastic and I have learnt so many valuable lessons from it. Joel Comm can pat himself on the back for another profitable and successful web venture. As the series draws to a close everyone is waiting in anticipation to find out who the winner will be? Let’s analyse then… Jamie Luchuck: Jamie has made it so far in the competition, she seems like a very down to Earth actress who comes into the competition with no secrets. Jamie has always done reasonably well in challenges and she is definitely someone who Joel should consider to be a JV partner. I cannot say enough good things about Jamie, she has proven herself time and time again, contrary to what Joel said I believe that she can get stressed sometimes but she still works well under pressure. Web Design Tweaks: New Banner
2007-10-26 03:10:06
Just a very quick post to tell all of my readers that the site has a new banner, we have now FINALLY incorporated the fish theme. As the site grows in popularity we have to make sure that our site is top notch, this means tweaking the site from time to time and making sure I am providing the quality information that people need. All things at SmallFishBigMoney.Com seem to be positive, our Technorati rank is going up (Rank: 587,893 ) and we currently have an Authority of 14. Our Alexa traffic keeps on going higher, we have bridged the millions gap and we sit at a nice and comfy (998,883) and this is definitely going to be going higher soon. I would like to thank all the MyBlogLog, BUMPzee, BlogCatalog and any other readers who keep an eye out for SmallFish from time to time! Thank you so much everyone and I hope that you can help the blog grow. New Blog Design Coming Soon
2007-11-03 05:45:39
Dear Readers, this is an update on the new blog design which is very fast approaching! It may be here before the 1st December 2007! I only have a few things left to do…these include writing 17 articles and fixing some CSS errors. All of that will not take too long to do and all should be operational on the 15th November 2007! That is about 6 days before my exams. Once I reveal the new theme my posts will still be a little bit infrequent until November 24th which is when exams will be over and I will finally be able to post very regularly and maximise my advertising campaign for the website. As I have said before, this new theme is titled SimpleCentric and it has been designed by me. The theme itself has been created based on several other themes including JohnTP, John Chow and Etienne Teo. The new theme is looking very good at the moment and I cannot wait for the day I release it, but I now have to go and write those 17 articles and fix these CSS errors, I have emailed JohnTP as

SmallFishBigMoney.Com - What’s Hapenning to Us?
2007-11-02 19:45:01
Don’t worry readers, all is well, I have informed you all that I will be in examinations for the month of November 2007, therefore posts will be made on weekends only…better than no content at all! Anyway, you have also not heard a lot from us content wise because there is a lot going on in the background, when we come back in December 2007, Small Fish Big Money will have released Project Newcomer. What is Project Newcomer? For one, it is not a piece of software or an application it is a presentation package for this blog. Project Newcomer will include. An Absolute Facelift of this Blog: Yes, I will be saying goodbye to ModernPaper and hello to my own personal design titled ‘SimpleCentric’ which has a merge of Etienne Teo, John Chow and JohnTP style to it. This is only one part of the three part Project Newcomer. New Products and Services from this Blog: Yes, we will unleash a range of new services and of course our free ereport as I informed you about previ

Traffic Building Part 2: Bringing it All Together
2007-10-30 03:15:54
As we discussed yesterday, traffic is essential for any blog, I was reading an article at CourtneyTuttle.Com (Where did all the bleeping bloggers go?) this morning and I saw that she started getting her first amount of ‘decent’ traffic at the three month mark, this is most probably the usual or the most common time that traffic begins to increase. One important point to remember though is that you have to blog at least every day, so at the end of the 3 month mark you can have about 100 to 150 posts so that Google can munch on the content. Traffic building can be difficult from one perspective but one thing that you must remember is that there is no proven formula for success, although some people’s ideas work better than others. So…are there any more techniques the everyday blogger can use for traffic success? Yes there are. Technorati: Make sure that you are listed on Technorati and that your authority is going up, take a proactive role to ensure it is going

Blog: Hibernation Mode
2007-11-06 04:49:55
Dear Readers, SmallFishBigMoney.Com has been very successful thus far, in our first month we raked 550 visitors, we now have an alexa rank in the 800,000’s (which is good coming from 6 million). Our success is a testament to the various techniques I have used in order to attain traffic. I would like to extend a special thank you to all my MyBlogLog, Bumpzee and Blogcatalog readers as well as anyone else who reads our blog. I must however point out that this blog will be going on ‘hibernation mode’ for much of November 2007. We will return to full time blogging on November 24th, this will occur in congruence with the launch of our all new website (we gave it a facelift) and the launch of our new ebook in December 2007. I sincerely thank everyone who has helped bring this blog to where it is today, I have also attained a PR2 after only one month of blogging. This is only temporary and I will be back on November 24th 2007 with a brand new theme, seventeen new articles an

New Theme Update: Blog Design Change
2007-11-05 02:20:26
As November 15th approaches I am getting ready to say goodbye to the old theme and hello to the new one. There is now a possibility that the new theme will be released ahead of time, I have completed 11/17 articles but I have still not resurrected the CSS problem, JohnTP continues to evade my questions, I think I might try to go to the WP forums or DigitalPoint. Out with the old, in with the new: What exactly is new in the new theme? Well, I have a new and improved interface, a footer with lots of links to friends, similar blogs and make money networks, and a MyBlogLog viewers box. I have also implemented a system whereby there are many links to articles on the front page which will always be there. In addition to this there are mainly many graphical changes as opposed to content changes, new services will be released as time goes by. I have removed a lot of the clutter that was there before which made it look very untidy and quite messy at times…I know I have a cleanish theme b

Firefox Vs. IE7
2007-11-03 22:38:56
I never thought I would be writing a post like this but I am. I have been designing a new theme for the blog and I have had lots of cross browser performance issues, but all is well now. I am just very annoyed that IE7 is the odd one out each time, on my system I have Opera, IE7, Safari and Firefox …guess who displays differently each time? Yep, you got it, Internet Explorer 7, so many issues each time I make a change! So I will probably still use IE7 because Microsoft has slowly but surely drilled it into my system since I was young but I will be giving Firefox, Opera and Safari a lot more respect from now on! I am yet to install Konqueror, Netscape and Galeon even though a very small percentage of people use them, I still want to see if the site looks good in all of them. By the way, the new theme is looking very good and I have written 5/17 of the articles and I am still trying to fix a CSS error, I might have given JohnTP the wrong email which is why he did not respond to me,

Traffic Building: Ad Spot Purchase or ReviewMe Review?
2007-11-12 03:22:02
Small Fish Big Money has had it’s ups and downs with traffic, but we are having a bit of a problem at the moment…lack of consistent traffic. The launch of the new design attracted a few new people, but I am tired of relying on MyBlogLog, BUMPzee and BlogCatalog to bring me traffic. How have I been pulling in 15 visitors per day every day? The answer to this is by adding friends and joining communities on all the profiling sites mentioned above. This is very tiring to do and it definitely takes it out of me when I have to add new friends each time to get some more visitors. My budget for my new marketing campaign is $100. Solution to my problem: Beginning to promote my website via paid methods, I am asking you today, should I buy an AdSpot, ReviewMe review or PayPerPost Review and at which site should I do it at. My budget rules out big league players like JohnChow, ShoeMoney and Yaro Starak. But…it leaves me with a few options such as going to Courtney Tuttle,

Dosh Dosh, Content Packed Make Money Online Blog
2007-11-10 22:30:33
Dosh Dosh is one of the very few blogs out there that writes a lot highly focused content. I must praise Maki for writing articles which are sometimes a mile long (but are absolutely PACKED full of useful information). I will say that if anyone begins to follow Dosh Dosh they will become not only a better blogger but a focused blogger. Maki’s articles are very focused and they are all aimed at teaching you how to make money online and build traffic. This is why I believe that Dosh Dosh is a perfect complement to Small Fish because I also write highly focused content and my articles relate largely to making money online, marketing, traffic building and blog design. The posts created by Maki receive anywhere from 1 to 100+ comments, the blog is a very highly frequented blog and it is not plastered with ads like some of the other blogs I have visited in the past. This article for example is highly focused and to the point, it provides very important tips about getting traffic and

Blog World Expo 2007
2007-11-10 17:25:14
I have seen people posting about their experiences at Blog World Expo…unfortunately I am on the other side of the world, so I could not be there. It seems like a very exciting place to go, I have been following John Chow’s blog very closely to check out the pictures of the expo. I have one thing to say, I wish I was there. The expo is very cool, it has everyone who you would ever want to meet (Shoemoney, John Chow, Nate Whitehill, Kontera reps…and the list goes on!). I am very jealous that I did not get to go, maybe next year! These are a few links from the John Chow website about his experiences, http://www.johnchow.com/blog-world-expo-video-from-the-show-floor/ - Shows us some video from the actual show, very short, but you get to see a few things here and there. http://www.johnchow.com/blog-world-expo-dinner-with-kontera/ - Talks about having dinner with a Kontera representative. Fantastic looking food! http://www.johnchow.com/blog-world-expo-the-party/  - Hav

Make Money Online - Pay Per Lead
2007-11-10 03:05:14
Making Money Online can also be done via the use of affiliate programs. There are a huge number of affiliate programs out there…some are more legitimate than others of course. How do you find the right one? The answer is, I have picked out the affiliate programs which I believe are the best in the business and have a good record of payment. Affiliate programs are one of the easiest ways in which you can monetize your blog effectively. All you need is successful marketing skills to properly advertise the product.   Ebay (www.ebay.com) You can become an affiliate with ebay and they will pay you about $25 if you promote ebay on your website and manage to attain a successful signed up referral that begins to use ebay to sell products. Bidvertiser (www.bidvertiser.com) Although Bidvertiser is an ad serving platform it also offers a high payout affiliate program; you can get paid up to $25 for your successful referrals (that means they sign up and start making money). Make Money Online - Cost Per Acquisition
2007-11-10 03:04:52
Cost Per Acquisition is the process whereby the publisher (the person who puts the products in their site) is paid a certain percentage for successfully selling a product after the user (viewer) clicked on a link (e.g. a book) and purchased it. Cost Per Acquisition does not work too well on blogs because people are not so much ready to buy products…the came to read your blog not for a tour of the local amazon.com store. The best places where CPA works is on ecommerce websites, especially for products which many people like, these could be anywhere from ipods to technology or high fashion bags, clothing etc…You can also get away with using lots of CPC visual displays from Chitika eMiniMalls or TTZ media (because a high percentage of users purchasing online are usually unaware…they think the ad is a CPA) I highly recommend that you set up a small ecommerce niche shop specialiazing in one kind of product (ipods, technology, computers do very well despite a high density market).

Make Money Online - Cost Per Mile
2007-11-10 03:04:10
Many businesses that have very large amounts of visitors per month on their website use a simple but effective way of monetizing their website, this system is the cost per mile system. The CPM system works by placing a banner of some description or size on your website and in turn you generate revenue for every thousand impressions (page views) that your site gets. Many people get a lot of page views per month and it only makes sense to use a CPM system to make money online.   CPM systems have been in existence for quite a long time now, there are countless services out there, but you need to know which ones are the best. I did some research and found at that the three or four systems below are the best. Tribal Fusion (www.tribalfusion.com): Tribal Fusion comes highly recommended, I checked out a lot of reviews relating to tribal fusion and it is one of the most top notch systems available out there. Tribal Fusion does require websites or blogs who apply to have approximately 2,000 v

Make Money Online - Pay Per Click
2007-11-10 03:03:50
Pay Per Click systems are one of the easiest ways to monetize your blogs because it only requires one action from the user…a click on a link. The average payment per click for a beginner blog is anywhere from $0.10 to $0.50, these rates go up as your blog increases in traffic and companies begin to pay more for advertising on your blog or website. There are a wealth of pay per click systems available to the general public. These systems all have their ups and downs and some are better than others. The best pay per click system to date has been the one and the only Google AdSense. Google AdSense is putting a lot of cash into people’s bank accounts each day, some people earn up to $70,000 per month using this simple pay per click system. Below are the pay per click systems which are considered to be the best. Bidvertiser: Bidvertiser is another simple to use and implement pay per click system, it is not as popular as AdSense but it still has the ability to bring in some revenue for y

Synergy, A Flow of Information
2007-11-10 03:03:13
Synergy is all about a flow of information for your readers; you provide them with your flagship articles and easy ways for them to get to your information and around your website. It is all about linking all aspects of your blog together, common practices include linking to previous blog posts so that they do not just die and linking to other blogs blog posts so that you can develop a friendly rapport with the owner.   Flagship Articles or Info Boxes: I am using seventeen static links on my front page, these are called flagship articles or information channels, and they are articles which people can click on if I have not posted in a while or just want some extra information. They are highly useful because it provides an extended user experience, better than the norm.   Top Commentators: By using the top commentators plug-in you can give people a reason to comment on your blog: they will get a free link if they comment the most…who doesn’t want a free link? I know I do.   Re

Synergy, Concept Implementation
2007-11-10 03:02:48
Synergy can be a very difficult concept to implement; after all it took me quite a while to write all the articles you see in my flagship articles section (Initialize, Optimize, Monetize and Synergize - IOMS). I can assure you I did not write them all in a day…although it could have been done.   You have to really put a lot of work into your flagship articles and you must always keep adding more information to them because they are ‘flagship’ after all. The content in these articles must be of a very high standard with no spelling errors or mistakes. These articles may be one of the first things users click when they come to the site, you want to make it a great experience.   After creating all of your articles you will want to proof read them, spell check them and make any final adjustments before your publish them. One thing that can stump people when it comes to blog synergy is the fact that they cannot think of enough topics to write about. My answer to this question is b

Teen Blogger Link Love
2007-11-17 07:22:21
Being a teen I like to visit other sites run by teens as well, it is only natural that I check them out and see who they are and what they are talking about. I have visited a handful which I believe continue to evolve and survive in the make money online niche. So, I decided to give them some link love! MoneyMakerBoy from Dubai: A 12 year old teen is making money online! This most recent post teaches us about PayPerPost and how to maximize revenue from the service. MoneyMakerBoy keeps blogging very consistently and always blogs about topics which will interest a larger audience. Check out his post: Make Money with PayPerPost! Carl Ocab: Yes, he’s still online and going very strong, he write quite frequently and his posts are always full of information, the most recent post discuses why marketing is king. Personally…without content you don’t have anything to market so…content is king. But these are the kind of posts that get people reading! Controversy! Check i

Ipod Touch Review, WiFi Capability, YouTube Video Stream, Music, Widescreen and more!
2007-11-16 02:15:21
The Ipod Touch was released earlier in September this year. I have seen many people using it and I decided to check out what it has to offer and if purchasing it is a good or bad option for anyone. Many of the people whom I have talked to seem to be very pleased with it so far, they have not had any technical glitches etc… So, let’s take a look at it. The Ipod Touch has some really cool features such as WiFi , allowing you to download songs directly onto the ipod itself…saving the hassle of transferring music. It has a very large 3.5′ screen which is very handy when watching videos or browsing through pictures. The Ipod Touch costs in USD $299 (for 8GB) and $399 (for 16GB). Personally, I believe these prices are quite inflated…but you are paying for the brand and a wealth of features available after all. With a client for viewing YouTube videos and browsing your favourite blogs using Safari on a Mac OSX platform I highly recommend the iPod Touch for pur

DayJobNuker Suggests a New Approach
2007-11-15 01:40:00
In the last post I discussed the various ways I will use to get more traffic to the site. I have also been doing some thinking and I cannot help but think that this blog is very similar to the many ‘make money online’ blogs out there…but it is a bit better than the average if I say so myself. DayJobNuker recently commented on the post I made titled Traffic Building - Ad Spot Purchase or ReviewMe Review and he suggested that I change the direction of the blog a bit more so I can be different from the other blogs out there, now I know you may have heard it all before but the fact is that it’s true and I had also been thinking that my content is very similar to other blogs which are, unfortunately, probably better than this blog. I have decided that I will take this blog to new places and directions starting December 2007. I will be delving more into business, successful marketing, branding, blog design and broaden the range of topics I blog about. Although I wil

Smorty, Get Paid to Post!
2007-11-20 05:27:33
Smorty is a service connecting advertisers with bloggers. Advertisers can pay bloggers to write opinion posts with links back to the advertisers site. Smorty allows bloggers to get paid to post about other services and products. Smorty is a really great service as it has a very simple user interface in the administration section which allows you to quickly accept opportunities for you to take advantage of and earn money. As well as earning money by posting you can also earn money by being a Smorty Affiliate. You will get commissions for every ad campaign that the user begins using Smorty. Yes Mr Google Man! “G” Slapped Part 2
2007-11-27 02:03:40
The last post we did got some high praise from various viewers so I thought I would round things up by talking a bit more about defending your website with fool-proof strategies to evade the notorious “G”. The focus will definitely be on text links and sponsored reviews. Thanks to Bruce of BruceHopkins.Net for covering our story Bruce Hopkins Covers My Story About Beating the G Slap! Text Links: Although people have talked about text links in the blogosphere we did not really get many solutions. I have a couple which will work dependant on which you like the best. You can use a service called  “Scratchback” (www.scratchback.com) which you may have seen in the blogosphere, it puts no follows on the text links you sell via your blog in a section called the Top Spots, many people are successfully using this model, and Google will not penalize you for it! Leveraging Text Links via Ads: Okay, so you do not want to have text links (available for purchase) whatsoever

Paid to Post Services That Work, Google Slap, I think not!
2007-11-25 06:13:11
Paid To Post services have been the primary target for Google recently, I really get annoyed when Google think s it owns the internet but I get more annoyed when they meddle with innocent bloggers like us making a living from the net. Well, have I got news for you, you can use two paid to post services which are impervious to Google. Yes, I said impervious. SponsoredReviews.Com and Smorty.Comare very different to services like ReviewMe and PayPerPost. They have bloggers requesting that you do not identify the post as a paid review! When I read this I was really happy because I know that Google does mean a lot to so many bloggers out there and that this knowledge will help anyone get some cash without being kicked or ’slapped’ by the big “G”. After all they are not the boss of us! WE are the boss of them, let’s act like it! So, if you are using PayPerPost and don’t give a stuff about Google I say go right ahead, but if you like PageRank and want qualit

10 Top Tips for A Better Blog
2007-11-25 03:18:01
A blog is a destination to put all of your thoughts and opinions relating to yourself or the niche in which you write. Blogging has been growing since early 2004 and it has now reached the point where you there are cutting edge blogs and there are blogs that wouldn’t cut through paper even if they tried. What makes YOUR blog the authority? We have all heard that a blog has to be unique, but being unique can only go so far. Today I provide YOU with the top tips to improve your blog’s design and functionality. This is one of my specialty areas because I like blog’s to be organized and not all over the place. 1. Organize Your Content: You have to learn how to provide readers with information (by these I mean old articles from a long time ago). You can show reader’s old articles by having a Popular Posts section or having some ‘flagship’ articles. 2. Have Good GreatNavigation: It is no use having a blog if no one can get in and around your site, this is

Entrecard, You Should Be Using It.
2007-11-24 17:15:07
Entrecard is revolutionising advertising and networking, it has already caught on with around 120 blogs using the service (including Mr John Chow, Jeremy Schoemaker was using it but then he stopped). But it needs more than that many blogs to use the service. Go ahead and sign up to use Entrecard, if you need some free credit I will be more than happy to transfer some over to your account to get you started. Entrecard is great for people who do not like to spend money on ads or do not have money to spend on ads. It allows you to pay the big names of internet marketing a certain amount of ‘credit’ (a fictitious sum of money you create by dropping and swapping cards). The credit paid allows you to get an ad spot on sites like John Chow (www.johnchow.com) for one whole day, of course you can keep on buying more ads if you want. Entrecard has allowed me to get in touch with blogs in my niche which I never knew about or never looked at to begin with. It is a really great way t

Virtual Business Card, Entrecard
2007-11-24 03:06:45
Entrecard is a new concept for bloggers. It enables YOU to get a virtual business card and drop it by clicking onto “Drop Yours” on any other blog using the system. The system is VERY new and it is starting to catch on…it has to when dot com mogul JCHOW (John Chow) begins to use it. So, how does it work exactly? The system is VERY simple to anyone who uses it for the first time. If you drop your card on another blogger’s site, guess what, you get a credit, with these credits you can buy an ad spot on the location of the website has their “EntreCard” displayed. (E.g. mine is displayed on the left so your ad would appear there…no payment whatsoever, just credits from clicking other peoples card and your card being clicked on!) I trust that you will enjoy Entrecard because it is by the far the easiest and most intuitive system to get traffic to your blog. I mean…imagine this, you have enough credits, you buy an ad spot on John Chow&hellip

Google Stops Indexing, Monthly Update!
2007-11-23 17:33:56
This is very unfortunate but it seems that Google has stopped indexing my posts for the month of November. The only reason this has happened is that I was posting once or twice a day but as I said I would be in exams until yesterday and I could therefore only start posting frequently today. Although I have been away not much has been lost or damaged. I am currently on the path to increasing inbound links on my site to combat the amount of outbound links I have (Check the footer, I need to give my fellow bloggers some permanent link love, Casey from News Notion (www.newsnotion.com) will now be getting a link at the bottom with all the other cool blogs! Supporting the teen bloggers again. END OF YEAR GOALS: I am currently on track to achieve my goals for the end of the year, they are that my Technorati Authority will be 50 to 100, my Alexa rank will be over the less than 300,000 and my Google Page Rank will increase to 3 or 4 over 10. I know that I will be able to succeed in achieving t
