Grab your IPod 2008-03-06 05:48:00 You guys know that post that was made, not long ago about the professional trainers. I don’t recall right now who had hooked up with a trainer and then guest posted here and I am sorry about that but...I recall reading the post and thinking “Man, I wish that I had a trainer at my disposal.” For the record, I also watch Biggest Loser and think the exact same thing. What I wouldn’t give to have someone here right next to me when I work out. Cheering for me, screaming at me if I needed it...just showing me the way. I am sure that I am not the only one who was a bit green around the gills with those thoughts either. The fact is, if we all had a Jillian Michaels at our beck and call, we would probably not be in our current weight predicament. Right?
I think I have found an easy bree
Let’s Go Back To The Beginning 2008-03-05 10:28:00 With a few new members and a few old members making their re-commitment to losing their weight, I thought it might be time to get back to the beginning… Today we’re going to talk about fitness for beginners! Now I really that there are many of you that are turning into little skinny Minny’s, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t learn from some of the best fitness tips for beginners
This is aimed to the person who is mentally preparing themselves to get in shape. The individual who suddenly has realized after many years that they simply cannot continue being overweight, tired and listless with muscles that resemble a bowl of Jell-O (just like me!). You want to begin eating right and exercising, but you have absolutely no idea where to begin. You’re sort of scared
How much do we really need? 2008-03-04 09:53:00 It may surprise you, but I am not talking about sex here. I am talking about the second greatest thing that you do in your beds - SLEEP. In an age when we are constantly pushing ourselves harder and harder, sleep is usually the first thing that we deprive ourselves of when our schedules get tight. Why is that? People just don’t realize how important it is, that’s why.
How much sleep we each need, depends upon a few things and it varies greatly from person to person. Each person inherits a genetic need for sleep. Your daily activities play a role too. If you drink caffeine, if you drink alcohol, or if you smoke, all play into the equation. Also, your 24 daily cycle - called circadian rhythm. Most people fall into one of two categories. You are either a short sleeper or a long s Read more:really need

Weigh-In Friday! 2008-02-29 12:21:00 So, I woke up this morning dreading the fact that it was Friday
. I knew what I had to do, but still, bringing myself to get on that scale was torturous… I knew I had gained. I knew that I ate myself out of house and home this past week. I knew I was stressed and I knew that I had let it get the best of me.
I was fairly surprised to find that I only gained 1.8 pounds this week, because let me tell you, I was eating everything in sight!
McDonald’s - Check
Pizza Hut - Check
Olive Garden - Check
My entire rationale behind this was that I was out of food and just “never” found the time to go grocery shopping. So, I would say, well I’ll just stop by and get something to eat and THEN go grocery shopping. But somehow it was always too late, or we h Read more:Weigh
Make the switch 2008-02-28 08:10:00 I hope that this entry will be written in vain. That I will find out after it is posted that none of our Wicked Readers are still using regular vegetable oil anymore. I hope that each of you will tell me that you have already made the switch
to Olive Oil. Just in case though....
You need to. Stop buying the heavy, yuckie bad for you stuff and learn to love olive oil. It is lighter, tastes way better and can be used in tons of healthy ways.
You can use olive oil in place of any vegetable/full of fat yuckie oil when cooking.
You can use it as a light base for a yummy salad dressing.
It, with a little parmesean cheese makes a great pasta accessory.
You can coat veggies in it and then cook them up in the oven for a crispy and tasty version to frying them.
It’s good for you. Oliv
What The World Eats 2008-02-27 12:22:00 Amy sent us a great link to a photo gallery of what the world eats. They show 15 different families in 15 different countries and what they spend on average per week and what they eat. You have the American family who is loaded down with sodas, junk food, fast food, bags of chips, and then you have the family from Egypt who all you can see is tons of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Of course you have the Japanese family who is loaded down with fish to the family in Bargteheide (somewhere in Europe I think) that has a general mix of everything. Culturally you get a great idea of what everyone eats, and how it differs from us. I have to say though, the families from England and Mexico tends to eat exactly the way we do, but they have less “junk” food f Read more:World
Letter to my Bod 2008-02-26 11:10:00 Dear Bod -
I want to tell you first, that I am sorry for the abuse that I have dished out over the past 30 + years. I know that I didn’t take care of you the way that I should have. I took for granted that we would not get old. I believed that you would never allow me to have a wrinkle or a gray hair and that you would never allow my boobs to sag. Imagine my surprise when you gave me all three of those things - almost overnight. I rebelled. I screamed. I cried. I was abusive to you. I pushed you harder than you deserved to be pushed just so I could fight the process of life.
Do you recall that day last year when you squeezed my chest and made it hard for me to catch my breath? You scared me then. I realize then, that THAT was your intention. All that I could see was my father and hi Read more:Letter
How To Get More Fruits and Veggies Into Your Diet 2008-02-25 12:06:00 Nutrition experts tell you that you need to eat five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables every day. You may already know that a lot of people don’t even get five servings every day, god knows I don’t! In fact, if you ask most people, they don’t even come close! Fruits
and vegetables should make up a large portion of your diet. They are low in calories, which is good, and they are high in vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and fiber, which is even better. Eating the suggested amount of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis is difficult for many people. Busy schedules, eating on the run, and the temptation of junk foods are all barriers to getting enough fruits and vegetables into your diet.
Do you need some help getting more fruits and vegetables into your Read more:Veggies
A serious subject 2008-03-12 08:47:01 As some of you may know I have been having pains in my chest for a while now. I am constantly telling my friends what to do in case of my death. I’m not being morbid here - but I feel that I need to do this just in case. I think about it quite often, much more so than I will ever admit to. In fact, that is what is now keeping me awake at 4:48am. I am one of those millions of people without health insurance and I can’t afford to go to a heart specialist, or heck, I can’t even afford to go to the local health clinic. I’m doing my own research and changing my lifestyle so hopefully I can slow down the heart disease process and even reverse it at some point. I know this blog was started because we all want to lose weight, but I wanted to give y Read more:serious

To work out or not work out 2008-03-11 11:30:00 That is a tough question, especially if you are lying in bed thinking that very thing while coughing and trying desperately to breathe. I was sick last week. For the first time since October. My energy level was gone. Not even drained. It was non existent. I could barely stand up at the counter long enough to pour myself my morning tea on two of the days. I honestly had not been faced with a workout decision while sick since I started 5 months ago. So, I did what any geek would do. I grabbed my box of Kleenex and shuffled to my desk and Googled it. Interesting thing was, I did not find conflicting opinions about this decision. Cut and dry. Every place I looked.
Evaluate yourself 30 minutes prior to your workout and then listen to the following:
If you have a fever, stay in bed
Popping the pills 2008-03-10 12:06:00 Raise your hand if you are just one of the millions of people who have relied on over the counter weight loss pills
? Well I’m raising my hand right along with you. For me, it was Metabolife. Gosh I loved that stuff. The full feeling I got during a meal, the added energy, the 50 pound weight loss… yep, it was all good!
The appeal of losing weight quickly is hard to pass up. But do they actually work? And are they a safe option for weight loss? Here’s my answer - Yes, for me it worked. No, it was not healthy! (And let’s not mention the fact that I gained the weight all right back as soon as I stoped taking them!!) Nor is the Dexatrim I took or any of the other various ones I tried - oh wait, now its all coming back to me… Chromium, Trim Read more:Popping
Weigh-In Friday! 2008-03-07 11:54:00 Happy Friday
Everyone! Well, if I may, I would just like to toot my own horn here for a second. Normally I don’t run around telling everyone what I did this week - but allow me this one time I put myself on my own personal challenge of not eating out. Instead I ate exactly by my points on Weigh
t Watchers, logging every point. I stayed within my range, and I walked 4 times on my handy dandy treadmill. And as expected - I lost weight! 3.8 pounds to be exact See what happens when I’m serious about my weight loss? (Very excited person here!!) It really gives me the motivation to continue on my serious recommitment! Although I am taking myself out to eat tonight - but I will be making healthy choices!!
Ok, enough about me. How did
The Unexplainable 2008-03-14 12:16:00 There are going to be times on your weight loss journey that you simply look at the scale and go “HUH??”
Today was one of those days for me. Now seriously, I weighed myself on Wednesday to make sure I was on the right track and I was down almost 2 pounds from last week. I have stayed within the point range for the week, and even managed to save most of my weekly points for Wednesday night when I was going to go out with my girlfriend. I knew we were going to be drinking so I wanted to make sure I had enough so that I could have a good time. So in total, for dinner and drinks I had about 48 points left to spend. I spent 49. Not bad I don’t think… one point over (I KNEW I shouldn’t have had that chocolate martini!).
Thursday I woke up and
The Big Question 2008-03-15 07:51:00 What should you weigh? It’s a general question that requires a very specific answer. We all are shaped differently. We all have different bone structure yet society tells us with the lovely GENERIC charts what our ideal weight is. So what do you do when you are trying to figure out what you should weigh?
First, ignore the BMI calculators. BMI figures determine the amount of fat you have on your body according to your weight and height but It fails to distinguish between fat and muscle, so the BMI will ultimately give you an incomplete sense of the shape you’re in. How does the BMI god know if you are 5 ‘ 5” and weight 150 because you are big boned and don’t have an ounce of fat on your body or if you are 5’ 5” and weigh 150 because you have a beer gut? It doesn’t. Read more:Question
Reason #1,789,249 To Lose Weight 2008-03-19 12:13:03 Right now there is only one reason to lose weight for me - besides being healthy of course…
Bathing suit season is fast approaching! OMG my son wants to go back to the beach. Now last year I went, and although I did indeed wear a bathing suit, I didn’t feel “comfortable” in it. I always felt like I was getting stared at by the skinny bitch sitting next to me. I felt like I was being laughed at by Biff the buff guy. Granted they probably didn’t think twice about me, but I felt like they did. This year I’m determined to not look like such a complete whale on the beach. My goal for my summer trip to the beach is 200 pounds. I’m not even sure that is doable - its about 35 pounds before July. That gives me a little under 4 mo Read more:Reason

A Corona Way of Life 2008-03-18 10:51:00 We live in Miami. Picture perfect beach paradise. My family has always been a walking, talking Jimmy Buffet song. We approach things that we believe in with gusto. Lately for me, that includes my health. I stepped into the cyber doors of Wicked Weighs back in October. I was searching for the ultimate cure for my weight problems. I wanted something to work well, and work fast. My vision at the time was Weight Watchers. I thought that would be my answer. For most of the readers here, it is the answer. For me, I saw that as a means to lose weight but not to keep it off and not for me to reach my ultimate health goals.
What happened when I stopped counting points? Or what happened when I choose to follow the no carb diet and got the end and ate something that actually had carbs? Jenny Craig
Ways To Cut The Fat In Cooking 2008-03-17 12:03:00 I don’t know, I feel like I am losing my mind. I know I wrote something up about how to cut fat in the way you cook, but I can’t find it! So, forgive me if I’m repeating something here But today I wanted to give 20 suggestions on how to cut the fat in your regular recipes. I know I’m always on the lookout for healthier recipes but many of them are just so different from the basic foods that I enjoy. I’m not a gourmet eater - I don’t have the time, nor do I actually enjoy cooking. So, I’d much rather use my own recipes but find ways to lower fat. So, here are 20 suggestions on how to take away the calories in your everyday meals:
1. Use nonstick cooking spray instead of butter or oil; or at least choose liquid oils over solid fats (prefe
Getting Ready For Easter and Weigh-In Day 2008-03-21 11:37:00 Sunday is Easter
and for most of us that means one thing - CANDY! As we all know, candy is bad bad bad bad especially for those of us (namely me!) who are totally addicted to anything that even sounds like jelly bean. I’m not a chocolate girl at all, but OMG, give me a bag of jelly beans and I will demolish them in minutes.
If you are looking at the basket you may think that all those chocolate Easter bunnies, jelly beans, and marshmallow chicks look cute and harmless, but watch out. The calories in these Easter “goodies” add up quick. For example:
1 chocolate covered marshmallow egg: 100 calories
25 small jellybeans: 140 calories
1 small chocolate bunny (1 ounce): 140 calories
5 Peeps: 160 calories
8 malted milk eggs: 170 calories
1 Cadbury creme eg Read more:Weigh
Smoothies - The real scoop 2008-03-20 10:25:00 I recently found what has become mine and hubs favorite weekend pitstop. Smoothie King. I am not sure if they are nation wide or not, but since the health market is growing so rapidly, I figured that you all might have something similar near you.
I have to admit, I wasn’t sure what exactly this place was. I saw the sign and one day was feeling brave so I ventured in. It is simply a veg gals piece of heaven on earth. LOL! Every mix of fresh fruit imaginable. Natural “enhancers” that you can add into your smoothie and great options for those of us that are looking for an alternative to eating ice cream or drinking milk shakes. I have decided to educate you all about the fine art of smoothies.
You need to make sure that the place you are ordering from is a full fruit smoothie dist

Spring Into Fitness 2008-03-24 13:24:00 Now that is is officially spring, this is the time of year when we put our fleece-lined boots in storage, dust off the deck chairs and get re-acquainted with the great outdoors. Many of us also look forward to the “extra” hour of evening light that came with the return of Daylight Saving Time.
This year, we’re enjoying more late-day sunshine than ever before: The clocks were set to “spring ahead” on March 9, which is a bit earlier than previous years. That makes this spring the perfect time to jumpstart your fitness routine and head outside into the evening light. No matter your fitness level or favorite type of activity, outdoor exercise has definite benefits. Get your heart pumping and muscles moving while taking in the fresh air and sunshine!

Mental Health Days 2008-03-27 10:39:00 I think I invented these things. A mental health day. It’s a day when you just take time off from everything and take care of you AND you don’t feel bad about it. I try to incorporate them into my life on a pretty regular basis because I think that mental health is as important as our physical health. For my mental health days, I have even in the past, skipped the exercise. That is changing though. From now on, I am not skipping on the exercise because somehow, I have done well lately and my runs aren’t killing me, I am feeling way more flexible and there is no way that I am stopping and possibly dealing with a setback now.
You see, I have exactly 6 pounds to lose to hit my original goal. That is when I promised myself a new wardrobe. Queenie likes to shop. A. Lot. I figured that Read more:Health

Choosing The Right Fitness Equipment To Use 2008-03-26 12:10:00 Choosing exercise equipment is an important but tricky process. The convenience of having good equipment at home makes a huge difference for many people trying to lose weight and get fit. But, unfortunately, the majority of exercise equipment purchases go bad. People choose the wrong equipment and it simply doesn’t get used. There are a lot of $2000 “clothes hangers” sitting in homes all over the world.
The key to choosing good exercise equipment is doing research and using your own personal experience to figure out what equipment you’ll actually use on a regular basis. Here are a few proven tips for finding great exercise equipment for your home (and saving some money in the process):
* Decide what your primary fitness goals are: weight loss, muscle building, heart health, fle Read more:Equipment

Weekend Motivation 2008-03-29 10:49:00 I am choosing to post a video that I watched on Thursday. It made me cry like a baby for the entire 5 minutes and 38 seconds of it. This video is motivation summed up as beautifully as I can possibly imagine it. If you do nothing else this weekend, take the 5 and a half minutes to watch it. And remember that you can do anything that you set your mind to do. Have a great weekend everyone. Read more:Weekend
Weigh-In Friday! 2008-03-28 12:07:00 Hope you all have been doing well on your healthier eating and exercise!! You have been so quiet around here lately!! Come out come out wherever you are and make sure you weigh-in today!
As for me, I lost 2.8 pounds this week! Normally I would wooohooo, but I still haven’t loss the entire 7 that I gained 2 weeks ago! So, basically I’m losing to break even which always sucks honestly. It’s interesting to see how one week of going out and having fun can totally screw with my weight loss for probably close to a month, but it does… and it isn’t good!
I wasn’t going to mention this, but I think I’m going to…
I got a letter yesterday from a member that joined a long time ago who shall remain nameless, who basically called it and I quote “laughable Read more:Friday
