Living Luxury Style
2007-10-02 22:33:05
We just got back to Marriott Grande Vista I settled down on my king size bed after having a wonderful dinner at Hunter’s house. We were invited over to Hunter’s house for dinner. All fourteen of us. We entered the community through two large cast iron gates and then Kate and I looked at each other as our jaws drop about 100 feet. The homes in this golf course residence were HUGE. The architecture and design in these homes made me feel like were were in Beverly Hills, California. To no suprise, Hunter’s home was exactly like this. We were greeted and welcome by his mom with a smile. The house was emaculate. We were offered a soft drink by the bartender and introduce to Terry, his dad. Nicole and I were eager to get  a tour. The rooms of the house were very unique and distinguished, more than one kitchen, several bedrooms, and even a backyard with a basketball court. His family was so down to earth and pleasant. We were served bbq ribs, chicken, pulled pork, potato sal

Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream
2007-10-02 15:13:24
Its another break at the conference. Unlike the other break, they actually have food this time to keep me satisfied. Jumbo size chocolate chip cookies, mini Ben & Jerry Ice Cream , and other scrumptious desserts. Not to mention at lunch time we had an amazing caesar salad, fresh baked rolls, pasta and chicken, and then key lime pie. I was really bad…I took a picture of the delicious food with my camera phone and texted it to friends back on campus say “How was food in the caf? Wish I could share this with you”. John responded, “I hate you for that.” Megan responded, “Your a lil jerk. I love you.” Lauren responded, “Ugh it sucked like every other day.” The speaker at lunch time was talked to us about loyalty and the benefits of it. It was very informative.Š

Hospitality Investment Conference
2007-10-02 10:14:58
Its been a couple days since I have blogged. I have been in Orlando since Saturday. Yesterday was the first day of the Hospitality Timeshare Investment Conference. Right now we are at a break between speakers. The first presentation this morning outlined various trends in the Timeshare industry. It was remarkable to see that Timeshares have an occupancy around 81% while hotels generate an occupancy of only about 67%. I was freezing in the presentation. Its rainy and cold outside yet the Peabody Hotel still insists on putting the air conditioning on HIGH! Anyways, we are supposed to be working certain sections, picking up questions and bringing them to the facilitator. This session I was able to sit down and take notes, but next section I collect questions. This is giving more exposure to the industry so that I am able to figure out what I want to do once I graduate. I have already met several contacts for potential internships and jobs. Well…break is almost over, so I will blog

Red Robin
2007-09-30 10:24:35
We eventually went to go get food and James and Larry said “Red Robin ”. I had never heard of it before, but I am always up for new choices. Apparently they served bottomless fries. When we got there the wait was 25 minutes. We took that time to update the Director and AD of Finance about what they had missed. Once we got seated we were squished into a booth with six people. I am really small, but the others we were with are bigger and the booth wasn’t the best option, but we would have had to wait a long time for a table. The table conversation got heated when Jo, the director, brought up being late. Larry continued to question the reason for not appologizing. Will wanted to know when does a bathroom trip go bad because that was there excuse for being late, and I just wanted to know when our steak fries were coming because I was getting a headache from not eating any food. Earlier Jo had asked if anyone wanted an appetizer and everyone said no. Eventually Jo got pisse

Mini FARH
2007-09-29 14:58:52
Dragged out of bed at 7:30am to make sure I was dressed and ready at 8:30am was not the easiest thing for me this morning. I was so exhausted, but being AD of Records for the State Board of Directors (SBD) it was our job to be early to the conference. The conference was an opportunity for the SBD to do presentations for students about different ways to improve their RHA including publicity, financing, programming, etc. The sessions went really well. I was able to see friends from other schools that I hadn’t seen since the last conference. After lunch we had the board room meeting. I was passing legislation for two positions on the SBD to be combined, IT PASSED! We went over our officer reports. I am in charge of creating a roll call video for the upcoming conference. It should be a lot of fun. Board meeting last too long. I am about to leave for Orlando for a few days…

Long Drive on Alligator Alley
2007-09-28 18:32:50
I finally made it to the Hampton Inn and Embassy Suites in Fort Myers were we were staying for the night before conference. It is the worst drive. It is about 2 hours of driving in the valley of “nowhere”. It is known as Alligator Alley because it is the everglades, but there is nothing around there. If you don’t have enough gas before you enter on 75 in Weston you will end up breaking down. Once I got to the hotel I met with 3 other people on the Stateboard of Directors. We were waiting on our Director and Associate Director of Finance, but neither of them were answering their phones or text messages (probably because they knew they were late). We planned out the agenda for the meeting tomorrow and discussed what we were going to be talking about. We were finished befoere 7pm and the other 2 were still not here. Will called them again and eventually they picked up. At this point I was starving. I hadn’t eaten since lunch at 12. We were all very upset with them

Crunch Time Before I Leave for Conference
2007-09-28 13:21:52
After saying all my farewells at work I came back to school to busily finish stuff for KAT and class before I leave for the MiniFARH (Florida Association of Residence Halls)Conference. I am the Associate Director of Records for FARH and sit on the State Board of Directors. When I got back to campus I called Armando, Karina, Lynette, and a bunch of others to see if anyone wanted to get some breakfast with me. Most of them were losers either going to class or sleeping like Lynette. She answered, “ugh…huh…im sleepin…” and and bunch of other jibberish. I ended up having to eat by myself,  it was actually quite peaceful. After breakfast I went up to the SGA office to print quarter pages for Five Times August, event evaluations for Thinkfast and the Java Jam, Legislation for MiniFARH, SAACURH role call, and other promotional items for the Java Jam.

1st RA Program
2007-09-27 20:52:05
Ray and I had our first RA program…I am definitely a little behind this year. I will be stepping it up a notch in October. Tonight’s program was open to the entire building. We did a pool tournament on the fourth floor and the winner received $50. We had over 15 people show up and want to play. It was intense in the beginning. The program started at 7pm and lasted until 9:45pm. I was supposed to have an online meeting for the National Board of NACURH (National Association of College and University Residence Halls), the largest student run organization. I am the Associate Director for Business and Administration for the SAACURH (South Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls), but the internet never works in the building. It is supposed to be wireless and I can never use wireless in my room and even when I connect to the Ethernet I still receive LOW CONNECTIVITY…these are the times when I wish I was an RA in my old building, Lynn. The air conditioning worked

SUPERsize Me!
2007-09-26 19:10:31
After the test was over (not too bad, some tricky questions as always) we continued to watch Supersize Me. If you haven’t seen this movie, it is the most disgusting film ever. I usually do not eat fast food items because I have never enjoyed their foods and it is a lot of processed products. Sometimes when it is the only option I will go to McDonalds for a cheeseburger, but after seeing this movie I may reconsider. A man went on a diet of only McDonalds food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 30 days. The effects this diet had on his health was gross. He gained a significant amount of weight. If the server asked him, “Would you like to supersize?” he had to say yes and by the time he would finish everything he looked sickening. One time he actually vomitted everything outside the side of his car before he even left the parking lot. I think that is enough details regarding the movie. Watch what you eat…too much fast food may put you in the same position.

ZBT Meeting with Nationals
2007-10-11 17:33:10
Lawrence, our national representative for ZBT was here to check up on our fraternity and see how we were doing and if he could help us in any way. My meeting was at 5:00. I made the huge error of calling our new recruits “pledges”. ZBT abolished pledging in 1988. Pledging only tests endurance and it is not a quality needed of a brother. ZBT was the first fraternity to abolish pledging. In ZBT we do not believe in a two-tier membership, but instead we have a brotherhood program. The rest of the meeting went well. I informed him of my disappointment in not being able to attend chapter meetings because of my academic schedule. We discussed the weaknesses and strengths of the fraternity and the areas in which I could help. I have another meeting with Lawrence tomorrow at 4:00 to discuss our monthly calendar of events.

Poor Customer Service
2007-10-09 16:07:00
Some people are not meant for a career working with people. I had just come from Spirit Airlines with Dani after she had to fill out some pre-hire paperwork. We had to go to the health center for her to have her blood tested. We walked into the clinic and saw a sign that said “Please take a seat, we will be with you shortly.” A woman was in a room right next to the lobby and clearly saw us enter. She looked right into my eyes and did not acknowledge us at all. My patience level is really high so it was okay. Another woman, not in sight, question, “Cynthia, did someone come in?” She responded, “Yeah, we’ll get to them in a little bit.” The amount of ignorance and poor customer service was unbelievable. When she finally acknowledges Dani she used no manners and did not show any eye contact. After she had given the test, Dani was talking to me and she yelled at Dani for not paying attention. Dani had no idea that she had to watch her test the specimen. The lady was so misera

Where is the gatorade?
2007-10-09 10:35:20
Not feeling so well this morning. I was supposed to have my one on one with Kristie at 11:00, but I showed up and she wasn’t there. SCORE!!! All I wanted to do was go back to sleep since I didn’t go to bed until like 4am. I needed to find some Gatorade ASAP. My head was killing because I was Erica’s trunk and I hit it on something. Oh well, it will get better. I am going to work on my Purchasing homework and then go to the finance committee. I have to create my menu for my purchasing project and do chapter 8 and 9. Ugh…. Alright I will talk to you later today or tomorrow.

Yankees are OUT!
2007-10-08 23:33:14
So, the Yankees had to win this game tonight. If they lost, they were out. Karina and I always battle on this subject. A die hard Red Sox fan like myself and a Connecticut resident with love for the Yankees in one room during an important game creates an atmosphere of competition, struggle, enthusiasm, suspense, and true love for baseball. Bases loaded and two outs. Alex Rodriguez up at bat and an opportunity to keep the Yankees in the first round of the play offs. Could he do it? Could he make a base hit to push just one run it…NOPE!!! He hit a pop fly out to right field for the 2nd out. Posada finished it fast with a strike out. Yankees lost. I literally screamed to the top of my lungs. Karina was crying. I texted my roommate, Megan, and Shannon—all die hard Yankees fans. The text: “I can order you a wholesale amount of tissues if needed.” My first feeling was excitement. My second feeling was, I wish they made it so we could have just eliminated them in the second round. The

Mark Sterner Creates a Permanent Image
2007-10-08 19:58:59
So I have seen this presentation about three times now, yet each time it affects me in a different way. Mark Sterner’s story and talk with students creates a permanent image in my mind. Drinking and driving has always been a huge concern for me as an RA as well as individual. During my four years of high school our school lost several students to drinking and driving, two people which I knew. Every day as my 21st birthday creeps up, only 54 days, away my mother stresses to me not to ever drink and drive. Not only that, but the importance of not getting into the car with someone who has been drinking. Any driver in a vehicle is responsible for the passengers. When deciding to drive erratically or at high speeds, you risk not only your life but also those who are with you.  The entire auditorium was packed for this presentation with students and faculty standing on the sides. For some students, this was extra credit. For others, it was required by their professor. For the fraternitie

Cafe Bellino
2007-10-07 23:49:23
Best part of the night was here. There were so many of us here. Lindsay was feeling better so Taryn and I went out to the curb on Federal Highway to let her know where we were. Lindsay and her aunt were coming by cab and apparently never heard of the place. It was right near the Aqua Lounge in downtown Boca Raton. Eventually they showed up. Taryn and Lindsay’s mom and aunt were hilarious and a lot of fun. Café Bellino is a really relaxing atmosphere. It’s outside and has lounge chairs and couches. At the end of the night my tab was significantly high in the hundreds. I didn’t realize I spent that much, but its all good. People only turn 21 once in their life.

Blingo Shopping
2007-10-07 17:31:51
Every month KAT hosts Blingo, the Lynn University version of Bingo, but instead of small prizes we go BIG. We usually bye an assortment of prizes like Coach Bags, Tiffany’s Jewelry, X Box 360, gift cards, plasma TVs, flat panel computer screens, Nintendo Wii, and other “bling bling” gifts. Each time we go shopping we have $2,000 to spend and I bring different students to pick out what gifts we buy. Tova, Lauren, and John came with me today to pick what we wanted. I had picked up a Wii earlier this week because they are usually very hard to find and I wanted to make sure we had it because students have been asking for it. (more…)

JerseyMikes
2007-10-06 12:33:29
Mention Wendy’s, McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC, Popeyes, Arbys, or any other fast food restaurant and I won’t be interested in having lunch with you. I have always grown up in an environment of water, juice or milk. The only opportunity I ever had to get soda was when we went out to dinner. Even then I usually just got soda because the servers were always so quick at refilling my glass. Especially after taking spa cuisine, fast food makes me sick just looking at it. So when Sabrina ask me today where we wanted to eat and she started naming fast food spots, I declined, but instead she mentioned a place called JerseyMikes. I had never heard of it before, but she had gone to them up north and said they were really good. The sub was awesome. It still probably wasn’ t the healthiest, but it was really good. I got a chicken and cheese sub with onions and peppers. It was very flavorful. We ended up going back to Sabrina and Dre’s place. I hadn’t seen the

Red Sox: Game 5
2007-10-18 13:02:42
So the Red Sox are down 3 to 1. We have to win tonight to stay in. I have complete faith in my team. There is no other baseball team that deserves this world series more than the Red Sox. We have had the best record out of everyone in the American League. Tension within the residence halls and among students at school is high. I am praying so hard for my team…they can do it!

SHANNON’s BIRTHDAY!
2007-10-18 02:53:37
I think it is the month for birthdays. We had Taryn’s birthday last week and tonight was Shannon’s birthday. I got a text from Taryn saying, “Shannon has been wondering where you are. You are coming tonight right?” Of course I was coming… We had so much fun tonight. We all went to Duffy’s. Duffy’s was never this quiet last year. Wednesday’s used to be packed with people. It was pretty much empty. I think that other places have taken over their business like the Alehouse. We still had tons of fun. Check out the pictures…

Mid Term
2007-10-17 10:41:24
So I have a mid term in 2 hours and I haven’t studied. I really never study for tests especially for the classes that are in my major. I am in my element. I have never really been as excited as this semester to go to class. My mid term is in purchasing. The math concepts are very simple to me. For the rest of the class it is not the case. Because I have worked in the industry for so long, I think it has really helped me excel in my classes. Wish me luck!

Tonya Cooley from MTV Realworld
2007-10-15 21:39:13
In August when I was deciding who to bring from reality TV, I really wasn’t sure. We originally wanted to bring someone from Laguna Beach, but after talking to the management company Reel Management, the individuals were too expensive or dealing with legal issues. I asked all the KAT members who they wanted. Their response, Tonya Cooley. I asked them, “Why?” The overwhelming answer was that she was the bitch on the show, she had attitude, and it would be neat to know what she thought about her Real World Experience. Students assumption of who she was, was not who she truly is. She brought over 100 students to the caf. She wasn’t sure what she was going to talk about, but she answered questions that students had. She touched on serious topics of drugs and suicide. She spoke to students on a personal note which was really good. She told us, “College is all about a choice. Life is all about a choice.” When I first met her before the show, with open a

Relaxation in Key West
2007-10-14 14:00:29
Have you ever just wanted to escape everything around you? Do you feels levels of stress increasing and frustration only continuing to develop? If this is the case you may just need a weekend away from most people and a relaxing environment. After a ZBT Alumni Reception in Miami on Friday night, I felt the need to go away. I wasn’t the only one feeling this way. Karina, Erica, and Sa were having the same thoughts. We decided it was time to do something adventurous and go to Key West . In a matter of moments we packed our bags. We weren’t going to be staying in a hotel, we decided to go camping. We brought air mattresses, purchased a tent, and packed a cooler. Sa had found the place online and decided it was a great choice. We wanted something on the water. We got the keys at around 10:30pm. The security guy at the gate was really creepy and asking us weird questions, but we eventually got in. If you have ever set up a tent before you probably have experienced some chall

Dinner at Sa’s
2007-10-11 22:39:18
Throughout the entire summer I lived with Sa. During this entire time our schedules were usually opposite. When I was there, she was gone. When she was around, I was gone. The few times that we were there together she would always make dinner. It was always scrumptious. However, as a hospitality student, she continued to ask me to make dinner for her. Tonight was my night to make dinner. I thought it was going to be simple. I knew all kinds of meals that I could make however; I was unaware of the picky people I was serving. Armando was the only one that wasn’t picky. Karina can’t eat seafood. Sa doesn’t like red sauce. Erica doesn’t like meatballs. To satisfy everyone I decided to make meatballs, chicken, peppercorn pork, spinach & artichoke dip, garlic rosemary potatoes, asparagus, fresh dinner rolls, and then banana foster to complete the meal. Everything was really delicious. The spinach and artichoke dip was not completely solidified, but it was very fla

Cooking with Chef for Parents Weekend
2007-10-20 11:53:26
This morning I decided to help out Chef in the culinary kitchen for a cooking demonstration with parents. Chef did two demonstrations showing parents and students how to make Banana Foster’s. We had to set up the room with enough chairs for everyone. It was a little tight, but we managed.  If you remember from my post a couple days ago, I made this dessert for my friends. When parents were seated Chef flambéed the brown sugar, butter, banana liquor, and Grand Marnier while answer questions about the program and describing the new specializations. Normally this recipe requires 151 liquor, but its purpose is for effect only. For parents, we chose liquor that would add more flavor. During the first presentation I didn’t speak too much. However, while scooping the ice cream for the second presentation a parent inquired about me and my education so far at Lynn. I really do love the program here at Lynn. I have been blessed with a variety of opportunities including conferences, ju

Carrabas Restaurant
2007-10-19 20:05:33
You probably are sick and tired of hearing my restaurant critiques and complaints, but I think its necessary for you to know. Any time I go out to dinner with anyone I critique the meal. I think it is just a habit because I am a hospitality management student. Armando and Lynette say I am picky, but I don’t think I am at all. It was Cynthia, Armando, Karina and I. Karina didn’t like her food either. When I go out to eat I don’t expect 5 star service, but I look forward to 1) good service, 2) good food, and 3) overall satisfaction. We didn’t get any of that tonight. It took the server 15 minutes until he was able to stop by our table to introduce himself. The loaf of bread and the oil was really good. It reminded me of when I worked at Bertucci’s. We always served fresh rolls and flavored olive oil. I ended up getting Pasta Carraba, it resembled Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and mushrooms. It was nasty! The chicken tasted like the grill and the sauce tas

IHOP Craving
2007-10-19 03:23:17
RED SOX STAY IN THE PLAYOFFS (WIN 7-1)!!! ANYONE WANT IHOP? It’s 4:30 in the morning and I’m hungry. I dunno, I’m just really craving IHop pancakes. It has been forever since I have been there. They are one of the only restaurants that serve Harvest Grain ’N Nut Pancakes. Every time I have wanted to go to IHop my friends usually say it’s too late or they just ordered food. Taryn, Karina, and I are going to get some food….I might blog when I get back, but I think it may be time to go to sleep.

Deal or No Deal Donates $400 to Relay for Life
2007-10-18 21:26:54
Set up was easy. There wasn’t much to do. The laptop ended up not working and the sound wasn’t working either, but those weren’t necessities. Dr. Hundrieser was the host and Mark was the banker. Karina was up first for the chance to win $1,000 cash. Unfortunately she only walked away with $200. As the night went on the suspense of each contestant continued to grow. Each of the six contestants had a chance to win $1,000 CASH. If each player won the maximum amount of money KAT would be using $5,000 of their budget. But the chances for that are slim to none. As cases were chosen I would run frantically to place in the new amount for the next round. I was doing it so quickly, if anyone asked me what case had the $1,000, I wouldn’t know. Christine helped with the money board and I was lucky to have ten Sigma Sigma Sigma girls to hold the brief cases. Anna helped me with getting the cases and refilling the amounts. The last contestant was reserved for a KAT member. La
