Weekend in Orlando
2007-10-26 14:19:41
Sa and I just got to Orlando . Sa’s friend John was following us, but he got pulled over by the cops for going to fast. Sa had gotten a radar detector a couple weeks ago after speeding tickets began to add up. We haven’t heard from him since that happened. So…no idea where he is..we just got to the “hotel room”. Unbelievable…I really do not what to say. I think the pictures can explain the funfilled weekend that is about to come. The agent at the front desk RAVED about Halloween Horror nights and how much fun it was. We go tomorrow night so I hope the rain holds off.

Tron System
2007-10-25 03:49:33
One of the most successful, entertaining, innovative, and exciting KAT programs we have done this year. Indoor laser tag, aka “Tron System ” brought out over 120 students to the residential side of campus. Anna, John, Lynette, Jess, Christine, Lee, and Alyssa helped set it up, but that was nothing compared to what we tackled trying to take it down. Setting it up was delayed when we blew the circuit breaker in De Hoernle. I found a circuit over by TJ’s patio. We hauled extension cords over there only to find out there was no power. Power was switched back on De Hoernle and the Tron began to blow up. Black lights and strobes were hung from the ceiling of this 23 foot high Tron System. Fog machines, laser beams, and music surrounded the base. It created a true laser tag experience. At 7:00pm there was a line filling the road all the way to the security shack. The momentum and anticipation was visible across the students. The vests and guns were real and students wanted to play agai

SGA Reception
2007-10-22 17:11:18
We gathered today in the 2nd floor of the library for an SGA reception. This whole reception was really for SGA e-board members to get to know faculty and staff on campus that we would be dealing with on a regular basis for SGA involvement. When we got here, we went outside where the reception was originally being held….HOT HOT HOT!!! I thought it was 110 degrees out. We ended up bringing everything inside. I knew everyone at the reception except for two people Evelyn Nelson and Dean Johnson. It was really a pleasure to meet both of them. But it was really great to put a name to a face to someone who really affects my education here at Lynn University. If I can look at any department on campus and say they have truly helped me to the best of their ability I would say it would be the department of Financial Aid, under Evelyn Nelson. All I remember is the end of my freshman year and I was waiting to receive my financial aid package. When I received it, it was completely differe

Laryngitis
2007-10-22 10:42:40
What works to get rid of laryngitis? I really screamed and yelled too much last night, but nothing means so much to me as the Patriots and the Red Sox. I love the feeling of being at a Patriots game. The energy, the enthusiasm, spirit, and soul of Patriots fans in the stadium were unbelievable. Besides the ranting and raving for the Pats, New England was chanting “Go Red Sox”. We feel united as a whole. We are a community unlike no other. I have no shame loosing my voice. I was in my element. It frustrates me when others characterize me as “taunting” or “being an ass”, but I am truly just an individual with a passion for the New England Patriots and the Red Sox. I need to find something to get rid of this laryngitis before the SGA reception, but I don’t think I am going to find something.

ALCS: Red Sox Win Game 7
2007-10-22 00:25:30
My heart is pounding faster than ever. I just got yelled at by another RA, Lynette, after I ran down the hallway ecstatic over the Red Sox victory in game 7. Her exact words, “You are not exactly helping the situation.” I did feel bad for a moment, but I truly the levels of adrenaline rush that each of my residents’ were facing. Red Sox came back from a 3-1 count to win the series against the Cleveland Indians. People were going crazy. The screaming, the body crashing, the spirit, the energy, and the enthusiasm for the Red Sox victory was unbelievable. I will apologize to Lynette in the morning. I spoke to my residents to quiet down as they exhaust their energy…I don’t think I can truly explain to you the feeling I have right now for this experience. It’s indescribable.

Patriots vs. Dolphins
2007-10-21 17:33:34
Patriots up 14-0 and the Dolphins think they have a chance at coming back. Dolphins score a touch down to make it 14-7. The few DolFANS that were in the crowds went wild only to be disappointed to see a kick off return from the Patriots to make the score 21-7. The entire stadium was full of New England fans, about 80%. The blue and white colors were prominent throughout the stadium with minimal orange. Right when I got there I ended up getting a Papa John’s pizza. As I set it on the counter eating my second slice, the wind took it away and landed it on the ground. I was so hungry, but lucking Alyssa and Hattie had gotten Nachos. I used to work for Dolphin Stadium last year as a Guest Services Representative. Brandon and Cynthia still worked there so I walked around the stadium to find them. Brady and Moss were playing an unbelievable game. I was beginning to loose my voice from screaming. The Patriots and Red Sox mean so much to me. Growing up in Massachusetts my entire life, it ha

A Paper Wrote By A Friend
2007-10-31 00:05:32
One of my friend’s wrote an interesting paper on a “friend relationship” with a person of the opposite sex. I found it very interesting and I believe it reveals a lot of interesting concepts and reflections of how individuals look at a friendship. In the past I have always had a best friend who has been a girl, and a best friend who has been a guy. Every time I would hang out with my guy best friend Tommy people would always talk and say that we were more than then friends. I of course had a boyfriend and he too had a girlfriend. There are so many times when people would misinterpret our relationship and just assumed that we were more than friends. I can honestly say that as long as you do not cross certain lines with your best friend then there is nothing wrong with the relationship. I would say that through out my whole life I have preferred to have a guy as my best friend then a girl because they are so much easier to trust. (more…)

Locked Out and No Where To Go
2007-10-30 23:58:27
Locked out of my hotel room at 4:45am and no where to go. I didn’t have a car to sleep in or another room to crash in. I went to the front desk to see if they could fix my card and he did. I walked back to the villa only to be disappointed with the flashing red light as I inserted my key. I walked about the resort for 30 minutes trying to find a solution. I found a security guard near the Pizza Hut and explained to him my situation. Apparently someone in the villa put on the dead bolt and they had to call the unit to have someone open it. I really didn’t want to wake anyone up, but I had no choice. John let me in and I crashed on the balcony in the lounge chair. It was a long restless night. There was fun, excitement, questioning, and laughter.

Halloween Horror Nights
2007-10-30 23:56:58
We woke up at 11:00am…little on the late side, I know. It was so difficult to wake up. There were three showers and ten people that needed to shower. It really should have been only nine people because Karina showered the night before, but of course she needed to shower again. Everyone was taking forever. Karina was straightening her hair like she was going to prom. I didn’t know what the occasion was. Eventually we all went to Fridays. Ugh…everyone had a stomach ache afterwards besides me. The funniest thing at Fridays was that there was a guy making balloons for people.   We were in Islands of Adventure only 10 minutes before it started down pouring. I was absolutely drenched. We were in line for the Hulk and the funny part was that we were standing in the section that was “outside”. I was drenched…not to mention that the Hulk was temporarily delayed. People continued to exit the line…we got closer by the second, until it was back up and running. The Halloween

Friday Night
2007-10-30 23:52:52
It’s been a while since I last I wrote a blog. The weekend was a blast. It was full of interesting adventures. Sa and I were waiting forever for the rest of the people to get up to Orlando. We went out to Ming Garden, right on International Drive. We got Peking duck, which was absolutely delicious. The chef came right out into the dining room and cut the duck in front of us. We had tons of food. We checked in with the people meeting us when we left the restaurant, only to find out that they were still 2 hours away.  SAW 4 was just released on Friday and we needed to see it. The theater ended up having an IMAX theater, and I couldn’t refuse. I had seen Harry Potter with the international students over the summer in the IMAX and the movie was amazing. It wasn’t too scary, but really good. Someone always has a mission. Sa, John, and I spent the night walking around the resort and relaxing. Sa went in the hot tub and I was going to go too, but I think I passed out.

RED SOX WIN THE WORLD SERIES
2007-10-28 00:07:19
Nothing means so much to me then to see the Red Sox sweep the Colorado Rockies in the World Series. Of course, I really wanted them to finish the series back in Boston, but I can settle for a sweep as well. It was no surprise to see Mike Lowell get MVP. Lynette’s brother Papu picked me all the way off the ground. I could practically touch the ceiling. Everyone was so excited. My friends and family from home were calling my cell phone left and right. They knew how much this meant to me. Not to mention the Patriots kick the Redskins 52-7.

A Tight Fit
2007-10-31 19:59:29
I was originally supposed to be on duty covering Karina’s shift, but for some odd reason she said I had already covered her shift. Lynette, Armando, and Megan really wanted me to come out, but I didn’t have a costume. Lynette was being a baseball player so I figured I would be one too. After putting on my baseball pants and walking around for no more than 5 minutes I realized I could not do it. They were TIGHT as possible. After debating on what to wear I gave up and went with casual jeans and a t-shirt. I think you would have advised the same if you saw me in the baseball pants. I really wanted to sport the Red Sox Jersey, but the pants weren’t doing it…

A Broken Suitcase
2007-11-15 07:27:33
I would take Jena’s advice a give Jet Blue another chance, but not after this flight. The flight wasn’t actually too bad. I read some magazines and watched some TV. It was funny; before they gave the safety presentation the captain got on the microphone and spoke, “I would like to appologize for the four rows (24 seats) that have TVs inoperable. We are aware of the defects and they will be replaced upon arrival in Boston. We will be following company policy in taking care of those guests.” It is great to provide a luxurious service like the TVs, but when almost every flight they have to make an announcement like that I think more time should be spent researching these great developments. Blue Potato Chips
2007-11-14 18:23:07
Have you ever heard of blue chips? Let me take that a step back, have you ever heard of blue potatoes? If the answer if yes, well I would say you are 1 out of hundreds. But if you answered no then you are thinking the same thoughts as me. I never fly Jet Blue. I flew them once last November on my way to New York for the hotel show and I told myself I would never fly with Jet Blue again. Back in November, the TV was broken, the flight was delayed four hours, my seat wouldn’t recline, and they ran out of the beverage I wanted on the flight. Of course they try to gain your loyalty again by sending you a voucher. That is the only reason I am on a Jet Blue flight. But back to the blue potatoes, they are incredibly unique. They are the official snack of Jet Blue Airways and have no Trans fat and 40% less fat than other leading brands of potato chips. More unique is that the chips are actually blue. They are an all natural snack and delectable treat. I guess Jet Blue has one positive aspe

The Expo at ISpa
2007-11-13 12:21:50
Row after row, booth after booth, product after product, salesman after salesman; this was what it was like going through the ISpa expo. Hattie and I had only gone down three of the rows and before we could begin the forth we had to go to the car to unload all of the free samples, literature, and free gifts. My mom, sister, and grandmother will be enlightened and pleased to see all of the samples I would be bringing home for them. In the beginning we had a struggle at getting free samples and merchandise because when they asked us if we owned a spa or if we worked in a spa our response was, “No, we are students at Lynn University studying spa management.” At that point some of the exhibitors gave up on talking with us. But 80% of the exhibitors at the show were so amazed that our university has such a program. They were eager to educate us on their product and what they have seen develop in the spa industry over the years. One of the spas are located in Miami and actually offered a

Networking at ISpa
2007-11-12 10:06:10
A buffet of delicious, scrumptious foods was presented to us when we entered the First Time Attendee Welcome Session; not only that, but another bag full of spa products and other goodies. Before the presenters began they pointed out the puzzle stress balls laid out on the tables. An awesome opportunity to network, the facilitator asked us to stand up and find someone to connect our puzzle pieces with. The first person I connected with was the lead esthetician from an Arizona based spa. She had been involved in the spa industry for over 10 years and had a lot to share with me concerning the industry and the future of it. The second person I connected with was a Spa Director of a spa based out of Colorado. She was miraculously surprised that Lynn University had a Spa Concentration as part of its Hospitality Management program. She continued to become interested in our Spa Cuisine course. I exchanged my business cards with both of them. You never know when these individuals may be able

Silent Auction and Massage
2007-11-12 09:15:19
When we had come back from breakfast we met Chef, Dana, Brooke, Lauren, Alissa, and Jounice and went into the networking and silent auction room. I began to list my name on several items throughout the exhibit. I put a bid on a basket of spa products for my mom, an IPod shuffle, a spa package at a spa in Boca Raton, and many others. Within the hour I went back to check on my bids only to be disappointed to be no longer the high bidder. I realized the silent auction didn’t end until 7pm tomorrow, so I figured that was the best time to start my bids. Also in the silent auction room were three therapists providing back, neck, and arm massages. I had to take advantage of this. Like last week, a lot of stress has built up and a massage would be the best thing to rub it all out. It felt relaxing, soothing, and started the conference off to a great start.

5am Wake Up for ISpa
2007-11-12 09:13:55
Hattie and I woke up this morning at 5am to be in Orlando for the ISpa convention by 10am. I was already pretty much packed because I went to conference this weekend, but I needed to pack a little more because I was flying out of Orlando on Wednesday to fly home to Boston. We got on the road around 6:45am and before I knew it we were here.  The entire ISpa (International Spa Association) convention was being held at the Gaylord Palms Convention Center and Hotel. The hotel was really nice and located just off of I-4 in Kissimmee. We had gotten here at 9am and didn’t need to meet Chef until 10am so we walked around for a while and went to get some breakfast with Molly, who also got here early. I went to go pick up my badge and was surprised by the large bag of goodies that were presented to me. A t-shirt, a notebook, an ISpa mug, 4 full size spa products, and much more were included in the bag. The marketplace was situated in the middle of the hotel. If you were standing there,

Golden Louie Pin
2007-11-10 19:26:35
Each executive board member has the opportunity to give out 3 Golden Louie Pins during their term. The pin looks similar to this logo, but in gold. I was going to give out one tonight. I really didn’t know what to say when I got up to the podium. It was a combination of a variety of thoughts, but basically I described this person as: When I am in a bad mood, they are there for me… When I am stressed, they are there for support… When I was elected ADBA they took over my role that I loved, NCC… They have been there for me in good times and bad… They put up with me in all situations… This individual is Karina Ortega, NCC from Lynn University.

Finally Boardroom is Over
2007-11-10 14:41:16
It is nice to finally be back at the hotel. This blog is going to be short because I have to change out of my formal boardroom clothes into clothes for the banquet. The boardroom was extensively long. We began at 9am and were supposed to break at 12pm for state meetings and lunch, but the advisor-elect bid took longer than expected.  Sean, our current advisor dressed up like the show Rocky Horror Show. It was absolutely hysterical. It brought some comedy to the boardroom. The other advisor, Steve Crudup, did his bid them on Transformers. The NCCs (National Communications Coordinators), basically the voice for their institution, couldn’t vote on which advisor to choose. One advisor had to win by a simple majority (50%+1) which neither could do. We re-voted four times until I read the constitution more clearly and declared this a vacancy. We didn’t get out until 1:45 and had to be back by 2:15. Lunch was rushed, I don’t even think I had time to digest. I was going to wear my pink

Conference Continued
2007-11-09 11:01:53
I wake up this morning at 10:00am to finish the role call video. When EJ and I got over to Sean’s room we found out Ron wasn’t a happy camper. Apparently Whitney’s alarm went off at 8am and he didn’t wake up to turn it off. He let it ring, ring, ring, and continue to ring. Ron was so pissed off that he was disturbed at that hour especially when we were all exhausted. He couldn’t go back to sleep. He was not in a good mood when he met us. I wasn’t waking up for breakfast this morning because it was too early for me, but EJ had gotten up at 9:20 to go to breakfast. It was supposed to be open until 10am, but when he got there it was already broken down. EJ is in a good mood if he doesn’t get sleep, but if he doesn’t get food…  We got to registration. All I had to do was give out an updated budget and my two pieces of legislation that I am trying to get approved by the NCCs. Here is a picture of the executive board:  We are the leaders of the organization and run the bo

A Blog Goes Missing
2007-11-22 15:00:08
I definately thought I had written a blog the other day about the snow fall. I remember sitting on the deck of the house and writing about the snow and how I hadn’t seen snow in two years because last winter break it didn’t snow. I have no idea where the blog went. It isn’t in my drafts and it isn’t anywhere. It wasn’t too much, just talking about the snow and snowboarding and skiing…

Fibbers
2007-11-20 23:17:09
There are somethings that don’t change from college to college. There is always a place that has wing night….always a college hang out….always night out late and a late morning wake up… Some friends and I went into the city tonight to a place called Fibbers. We walked into the bar and grille and it was crowded. People everywhere. There wasn’t a bar stool open. The tables around the place were filled by people just talking and hanging out. We walked around for a while talking to people we hadn’t seen in a while until a table finally opened before the girl had even finished signing the check we went over to the table. Normally one would think it may be rude, but that is just how Fibbers works. You have to go over to the table immediately otherwise someone else will grab it. Boston Bruins were on TV and took a win 4-2 . We ordered tons of wings with a variety of original (which would burn your mouth off), teriyaki, and BBQ. Brenna had tried some origi

Back Into the Swing of Things
2007-11-28 13:30:18
I needed that break at home. I don’t think I have every felt so relaxed at school as now. Everything is going great. We had the KAT meeting last night and it went really well. We are getting ready for Blingo on Sunday. It will be a little different this time. Everyone that participates will get a free card. However, you may purchase an additional card for $1.00. You can purchase as many cards as you want. All proceeds will go to Relay For Life. We are looking to get a hotel package and other new gifts for this Blingo. It will be a holiday style Blingo. All prizes will be WRAPPED! The winner will not know what he or she is choosing. Snow Day is next Thursday, December 6. We will be having 15 tons of snow brought into campus. There will be card making for children by Sigma Sigma Sigma, Honors Colloquium is sponsoring a balloon artist, Science Bond Club is looking to host something as well, and planning is still going on. There will be coffee, hot chocolate, and even pictures with S

Snow Day Without Snow
2007-12-06 21:22:20
It has been over a month that I have been planning Snow Day. From the booths, advertisement, club involvement, the snow, coffee, and music, it would seem that the event was going to be a success. I had no plans today. My complete focus was going to be on Snow Day. After having lunch with Mark, sloppy joes and mac & cheese, I was informed that Snow Day shirts had to come to a halt. A member of KAT was really enthusiastic to make shirts for Snow Day to raise money for Relay for Life. Unfortunately, during the revision and approval of the proof a typo wasn’t found. The front of the T-Shirt read, “Lynn Get’s Snowed In!” There is no apostrophe needed in the “Get”. The individual who created the shirt was disappointed when I informed them that we had to stop sales. I tried to explain that everyone makes mistake and we learn from them, but it was still a disappointment. I began setting up at 2pm, three hours prior to the event. I wanted everything to b

Hectic Week
2007-12-06 00:15:59
This week has been so hectic. I haven’t even had a chance to write about my birthday, but when I catch up with things I will definately write all about it. I have tons of pictures. Some of the pictures I don’t even know when or where they were taken. Last night I stayed up until 5:30am working on my marketing plan, purchasing project, and spa cuisine project. Any project I do always needs to be a work of art and exceptional so I spend a lot of time on detail. They were luckily all handed in on time today. The marketing presentation went very well. I was satisfied with our presentation and marketing plan we developed for Bentley’s Seafood and Grille. Snow Day is tomorrow and I am really looking forward to it. Sun Sentinel will be there so I am excited for all the events that will be occurring. Come by the pool between 5pm-8pm to check out all the neat events that will be happening.

12:00am on November 30th!!!!!
2007-11-29 23:51:48
I really don’t know what to say…I will begin by telling you that there was no concert, but a better event indeed. I spent the morning getting stuff for Gala finished. I went to Publix to pick out the cake to be served. I was ready at 9pm to go pick up Karina at Sa’s house, but when we got there she wasn’t there (or at least I thought). She ended up coming out of the Laundry room and I turned around to see everyone there and dinner ready to be served. Sa had made fillet wrapped in bacon with asparagus, green beans, and garlic red bliss potatoes. It was delicious. I was starving especially after I had sat with Sa in Chipotle and watched her eat. After we ate dinner, we sat down to watch a video. I never expected to see a video. All my pictures on Facebook are not visible, not to mention I usually help anyone that needs to make a video. To my surprise, I had shown Karina a week ago how to make a video for RHA and she remembered. It was really sweet. I had no words

Friends Acting Shady
2007-11-29 18:11:45
Karina, Lynette, and Shannon have been acting shady for the past few days. We are supposed to be going to a concert tonight for my birthday, but no one will tell me what kind of concert. I have tried all kinds of things to try to get information out of one of them, but no one is budging. I even texted all of them, “Is the concert indoors or outdoors?” with the hopes of getting a different response from more than one. I was just with Sa doing Blingo shopping too, and she wasn’t acting the same. She said that she was out of the loop and had no idea what was going on. I felt that really hard to believe because Sa, Erica, and Karina are best friends. We just finished Blingo shopping and I was really hungry, but I was told not to eat. Of course Sa was hungry too. We ended up going to Chipotle, but I just got a soda. I would have gotten something small, but I didn’t want to get full and ruin the dinner before the concert.
