the baby shower theme continues
2007-10-02 15:49:47
I mentioned yesterday in my post here that Happy Panda is hosting a cyber shower for Susan and Janice of 5 Minutes for mom. I also said I would make it a theme and continue with stuff all week. Today you get the great honor of seeing my "baby bump" -- but only one -- as well as hearing about our baby names. This pic is from my pregnancy with the oldest one and I remember being very proud of my belly when my honey took this shot. It was taken in between Thanksgiving and Christmas so we were almost at the 9 month point. By the way, you can't see it very well in the picture, but this was our retro apartment... the stove, sink, and fridge were all a very nice shade of pink!We picked out our baby names based on their meanings. Our daughters name means "victorious blessing" and this was such a true statement, especially for my husband who had come from a very hurtful previous marriage. He wanted children so much and though we had a sketchy start, we knew this was our

Ms Ann, and her husband Mr Harold, are our Children's Church leaders at our church. They were out of town last weekend and I had talked with her before they left. She told me where they were going and I was so excited for them because they would get to see fall foliage -- something we lack here in the desert. This past Sunday, Ms Ann walked up to me and said she had gotten these for me since I miss the turning leaves so much. That was such a blessing to me that she thought of me and our conversation while she was on her vacation! Aren't they just beautiful!Tags: Blessings, Friends, Church, Fall Foliage, Colored Leaves |

Join The Party
2007-10-01 14:30:11
Happy Panda is having an online baby shower for Janice and Susan at 5 Minutes for Mom and they want to share the party with everyone! They have a great list of prizes you can win too!!I have looked around but I don't have that many pics of me pregnant. Of course, we have about 20 old rolls of film we found in a box in the garage so they could all be on those..LOL.. I do remember one of me in our retro pink kitchen in Omaha so I'll see if I can find that and post it. It was my first pregnancy and I wish I still looked that small!!It is amazing to me how all of my pregnancies and deliveries could be so different. I guess they are all as unique as my children! My daughters delivery was induced on January 1st and I finally had her on January 3rd. The combinations of meds kept making her heartbeat jump up to over 200 so they would pull back on the meds but of course the contractions continued. I remember hearing other ladies scream and be done in hours as I waited day after day. When

Incentive programs for home educators

Did you know you can receive free pizza coupons for your kids (K-6) by participating in the Pizza Hut Book It! Reading Award Program? Click here to go sign up!! We signed up this year through our homeschool group (but you can sign up individually) and received our tickets last week. I like that I can set the goals myself based on the skills of each child. Peter Piper Pizza also has this same type of program and you can go here to get more information for that. I called our local store this morning and he told me to come by with a letter from our group saying how many families and kids we have and he'll get everything ready for me. They have incentives for good behavior, reading, academic acheivement, etc..Chuck E. Cheese has promotions for grades, accomplishments (like quit sucking your thumb), more. Click here to print off goal sheets and sign up for rewards.Feel free to share whatever incentive programs you have found!! Tags: Pizza Hut Book It! Reading Award, Peter Pipe

I am joining the bandwagon
2007-09-30 17:53:37
I have been reading blogs, party webpages, candidate webpages, etcetera for several months now trying to understand where everyone stands. I want to know for myself what a candidate believes and not just the media slop that is fed to us like pigs at a trough. I was impressed with a video I saw of Mike Huckabee talking about creation. It was at a debate and rather than side step the question he answered it fully and frankly. I like that in a president, and so I liked it in the candidate too. My husband is a Marine and so Iraq is a very important issue to me. My husband has been there, and though it is not our wish for my husband to die there, it is our wish that the Iraqi people have freedom. My husband will have to serve again. It is inevitable. We are ok with that. We would be selfish to be otherwise! If we pull out, then the terrorists have won, as well as those neighboring countries that would love to see Iraq shatter into a million tiny pieces just to prove how not dependable "

chaos in the books
2007-09-30 00:21:11
I try to always keep our downstairs presentable in case someone comes over. The upstairs is a different story because that is where the children live and play but I never want my husband to be embarrassed if he brings someone by the house real quick for something or another. It isn't perfect, of course, but we do a pretty good job of keeping it neat and organized. However, since school began several weeks ago, it has become rather cluttered with books. I'm just wondering how other homeschool families manage this?! Currently, the largest area of concern is the corner of the dining area. We have stack upon stack upon stack of books, writing implements, lap boards, maps, timelines, posters, etcetera in this small corner. Mostly it is books though. I think it is pregnant because every week it seems to grow a little larger! I guess part of the problem lies in the fact that we are book lovers. I keep going to my bookshelves to clean one out, thinking this will solve the problem beca

new top reason to homeschool in CA

'Mom' and 'Dad' banished by California Schwarzenegger signs law banning anything perceived as negative to 'gays'© 2007 WorldNetDaily.com "Mom and Dad" as well as "husband and wife" have been banned from California schools under a bill signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who with his signature also ordered public schools to allow boys to use girls restrooms and locker rooms, and vice versa, if they choose. "We are shocked and appalled that the governor has blatantly attacked traditional family values in California," said Karen England, executive director of Capitol Resource Institute. "With this decision, Gov. Schwarzenegger has told parents that their values are irrelevant. Many parents will have no choice but to pull their children out of the public schools that have now become sexualized indoctrination centers."read the rest of the story here.....Tags: World Net Daily, Schwarzenegger, Mom and Dad banished, SB777, AB394

deep piano sounds resonating in my ears
2007-10-12 11:29:48
I'm sure this goes for all music, allegretto means playing moderately fast whereas largo means very slowly. My daughter is supposed to be playing this bass-y song allegretto but she decided to do it largo just to see plus she started playing an octave lower. OH MY GOSH... it is like the creepiest ever! I'm starting to get freaked out just hearing it play behind me... ok. Honey. You can stop piano practice. NOW. YIKES!!!Tags: Allegretto, Largo, Creepy Music

Bitterness of the heart
2007-10-12 00:28:31
After discussing this with my husband, we came to the conclusion it was best to remove several comments from my blog this evening. Unfortunately, my blog is set up in such a way that if I delete a comment, most strings under it are deleted as well if someone just hit the reply button. This made a few get deleted unintentionally and I'm sorry for that.  I had received not only comments but emails as well and tried to respond in a loving manner but it kept ending with me saying "I don't know what you want from me." The truth is, nothing I could say would have made a difference.   One of my favorite people I have come to respect a great deal, though I've never met him, is Doug Phillips of Vision Forum. I participated in the Jamestown 400 this year and throughout the whole event was inspired by the way this man lives his life for God. Many times I had to google "Mr Phillips" or questions that were posed during the 400 to try and find answers.

KCFY Christian Radio -- Christiannetcasts People's Choice 2 years in a row!!
2007-10-11 17:54:08
My family has listened to KCFY since we moved to Yuma over 5 years ago. We attend church with several people who are directly associated with KCFY and always hear great things. For instance, Mickie, who is the office manager, is in our Sunday School class, as well as Doris, whose sons show is Vicks in the Afternoon. We've helped out on occasion with share-a-thon bulk mailings. If we know they are out at a live feed somewhere, we always try to stop by and say "Hello!" as a way of showing support! My boys favorite time to listen is in the morning for the Morning Blend with Brandon and Alysia. One morning, one of the boys called in for a song that I knew the station didn't play (he had heard on a secular station in a friends car) and Brandon directed him towards Toby Mac and other Christian music. I was thankful he didn't just say "No, we don't play that here!" Brandon's cool...everyone knows it! As you can tell, this station is really import

How cool is this?!
2007-10-11 11:34:38
So, I am ALWAYS sending music/videos I love to people and saying "You HAVE to listen to this!" I did that after this post when we discovered Monk and Neagle. Mike has been practicing Hallelujah Jesus ever since and has it down so last night he took it to church to our Worship Pastor and asked if he wanted to maybe try and learn it. Guess what?! He already had it in the service for Sunday!!! The choir spent a lot of the time learning it last night -- well, not a lot because it really is easy but you know what I mean.. WOO HOO!! And, the youth are learning Beautiful You for their next youth service. Is that cool or what?! I'm so excited!!!Tags: Beautiful You, Hallelujah Jesus, Monk and Neagle, MBCYuma

This is so very last minute but I'm entering the Fall Five Kodak Printer Give-Away at Sprittibee's Blog. Kodak and Sprittibee are giving away an EasyShare 5300 printer! I completely understand if I'm too late but I just had to share some of these great photos our family took this past summer!!We created a photo journal newsletter to send to our friends and family using the below photos and thoughts. Click on this link for a page 1 screen shot and this link for a page 2 screen shot!  My husband is a Marine and we try very hard to take one month in the summer and visit family and 'home'. These are pics that all of us took this summer. I just love looking at them. We really had the best time this past year and the drive across the country was just wonderful!! They remind me of the gloriousness of God in all His wonderful creations and that school is NOT just doing things in a book but going out and learning life lessons from what God has entrusted all around

teaching our children to become fools
2007-10-17 17:28:00
Normally I refrain from blogging about events that happen around me involving other people if they don't necessarily pertain to my own family. But today I must digress from the norm.We went to the dentist today and as I sat in the waiting room I watched a mom ALLOW her child to kick and hit her just for the fun of it. She did not try to stop her. She did not say she was wrong. She just let her continue. Now, this was not just "love taps" the child was using to try and get momma's attention, like a tug on a pants leg or impatient poking finger. This was full force kicks and punches. The mom laughed! I was appalled! This child needed (and probably has for a while now) a good old fashioned turn you over my knee kind of spanking!God teaches us in the Bible to discipline our children. It's not just this grandiose idea that is there without a purpose. It is to keep our children from foolishness. Here are some verses to direct you to what the scripture says:Proverbs 13:

Military Honors and a Vision for the future
2007-10-16 10:46:27
Yesterday I received my prize in the mail for being in the Order of the Jamestown 400, a treasure hunt put on by Vision Forum starting in October of last year and concluding this year with the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Jamestown settlement. Our family has grown and been blessed by the many things we learned by being encouraged to read and find out for ourselves the providential hand of God in the early days of this country. Part of the prize was a gift certificate for $25 to VF and I already know what we are getting with it. My husband is a Marine, and I am prior Air Force (even though my views have since changed on how I feel about that, I am proud of my service to our country), and we love history/ military history. We will be purchasing Return of the Daughters video that I posted about here (the vision for the future part) as well as Still Standing, the story of Stonewall Jackson's Christian character (the military honors part) while still being a

a blessed and unique family
2007-10-16 10:07:51
This past weekend I received an invitation to a family blog, The Serven Clan,  that was going private for the time being. I had purchased a few items from this family through their website, The Genevan Foundation for Cultural Renewal, and so I'm sure that's why I got the invite. I have to tell you, though you won't be able to look at their blog and see for yourself right now, how wonderful and extremely blessed this family is! You can see Christ's love showing through in everything they do! It is so amazing and wonderful to read about them.We are using Hymns for Kith and Kin for our worship time at home. We have been slacking a bit on this with our schedules running us to and fro everyday but hope to get this back on track in the next week or two as most of our night classes are ending. Also, we are using their Psalms CD's to try and learn 4 part harmony for the music portion of our homeschool. It's not easy with me as the teacher because I'm not so musically inclined but these

the Constitution and my blog

Dear Fellow Bloggers --I love you! I love comments! I love answering comments! I love my chat box! I love coming back to your site and visiting you!! Some of you are actual kin and some of you I like to think of as my kith, all brought together by the whole wide world of the internet. My daughter and I have been studying the constitution of the United States at our local Freedom Library every Tuesday night. I have to tell you how amazing it is to sit and dissect this wonderful document our founding fathers gave us, sentence by sentence, article by article. I have immensely enjoyed learning the differences between rights and privileges laid out clearly for us to see in bold brilliant writing! It is truly glorious!! If you are a long time reader, or perhaps you were just introduced to my blog in the last week or so, you may have seen some comments and/or notice my posting about having to delete some things. You may have even read in my posts where I stated I also got some emails I had t

Only $2999 to go. Can I go walk dogs?Mom: sigh.. Wait until your dad gets home.and another...Caleb: Mom can I get on the computer to feed my puffle at Club Penguin?Mom: No.Caleb: UH! Why are you the only one allowed on the computer except Victoria? I swear you are on it like 12/5!...to which I just burst into laughter and could have easily upset my poor aspies soul except that he bursts into laughter too because he realizes 12/5 just doesn't make as much sense at 24/7! Remembering our babies
2007-10-15 09:36:43
My husband and I lost two babies in between our other children. The first was in 1993 and I was almost 16 weeks along. The second was in 1995 and I was approximately 5 weeks along. Children have angels that are always in Gods presence in heaven (Matthew 18:10). I sometimes wonder if those angels interceded for my babies so they wouldn't suffer on earth. I know they are safe and healthy in heaven. God blessed us with more children after these losses but they did not replace these children. These babies hold special places in my heart that few people are allowed to experience with me. If you have had a loss and need to talk, please email me. My loss is not the same as yours but I have a listening ear and understand the need sometimes to just get it off your chest.Tags: Remembering Our Babies, Miscarriage, Multiple Miscarriage, Matthew 18:10 |
