MIL & Grandparent Gift Ideas
2007-11-29 11:36:00
I've been asked to post about some of the Christmas gifts I've made in the past for my Mother-In-Law and Grandparents. I really believe that Christmas gifts should come from the heart and be homemade, when possible. I also LOVE a poem or story to go with each gift. I feel like it sets the tone and makes the gift more meaningful. Here are the ones I can remember:12 Days of Christmas for Grandparents - I did this for all of the grandparents one year and it turned out amazing! I boxed it all up in one box and shipped it to each grandparent. There's a poem for each day that corresponds with the gifts. I've done all the work for you, and made each poem into a "tag" to attach to the front each wrapped gift.Feel free to tweak the poems to accommodate the gifts you want to give. Here's the intro poem:The 12 days of Christmas is the song that I singand in this sack 12 presents I bring.December the 13th is when you may start.Unwrap one a day with love from my heart.Having you as grandparents

Homemade Christmas Traditions
2007-12-11 21:16:00
We have several homemade Christmas traditions in our family that I've also made and given as gifts. I already posted this on my personal blog, but I thought you Ladies might enjoy it as well. Here's a few of them:Felt Nativity Hand Puppets: Several years ago I made these hand puppets at a Super Saturday craft day at my church. They were so easy!! We don't have enough people in our family to act out the Nativity - so this is our alternative.Laminated Finch Family Nativity: This is my favorite Christmas gift to make for friends with small kiddos. Print out the "Away in Manger" project in the The Best of Family Home Evening CD on card stock, cut, and laminate.Since I have a terrible voice, I made a CD of all the songs to go with it. I put wrote the corresponding songs and CD track # on the back of each one as well as a Velcro dot. My boys pick a Nativity character and we sing along with the CD. You can also print out all the words to the songs here.I've used this for so many things: Fa

New Christmas Traditions
2007-12-10 10:34:00
I've been really focusing on starting some fun but different family traditions this year during the Christmas season. Here are some that I've been impressed with:Keri and her family have the tradition of Stocking Letters. They write notes to each other, including parents, and put them in each other's stockings. They are to write one letter a day and make sure that they end up writing at least one letter to each family member. You get to read them on Christmas morning.I think this is such a wonderful tradition because it's nice for siblings to focus on the positive things they like about each other.Dawn over at The Feathered Nest, made a Wish Bottle for her family tree. She repurposed an old spice bottle and decorated it.You hang your little Wish Bottle on your Christmas tree. Inside, rolled up, is a small piece of paper that you can jot down your wishes for Christmas just for that special someone to walk by and see! They can pull your wish list out, tuck it in their pocket and the

I've got some great and useful tips that have been submitted to TipJunkie.com! Thank you Ladies so much - it makes my job a lot easier. {{wink}}Amy over at Kid Daze submitted this great tip idea on how to keep your kids happy with the toys they have. She suggested getting 3 crates and dividing up the toys into the crates. Keep one crate out and the others tucked away in a closet. Then simply rotate the crates so the toys are always fun and "new".That is such a great idea Amy! I do the same sort of thing with the Surprise Box. Simply add a bunch of old toys your child loves but no longer plays with into a bin (not clear). Put it away and only get it out occasionally, for Rainy Days, Babysitters, Sunday, etc.Tip: Add a theme to your Surprise box but adding in only "ABC" related items or "Blue's Clues" items. Etc.This is such the perfect time for a tip like this. As you're making room for new toys, go ahead and sort the old toys. Come spring break - you can get them out and they'll be
