Autumn Still Lifes: Pumpkin 1 - Artwork A Day 2007-09-30 11:43:00 "Pumpkin
1"Completed: 9.30.07oil on canvas board7" x 5" I am so excited about this painting. My inspiration from the pumpkin took off from yesterday and I bought all sorts of autumn objects. I have not painted still lifes since about 3 years ago, so I was a little anxious when I started. As I started to lay down the paint, I hated how it was coming out, so I switched to another board and tried a different approach. Instead of diving right in, I did a light sketch with thinned out reddish-orange and that helped me map out my composition. The only thing I am disappointed about is the picture quality. I am still waiting for my new digital camera, and it is very difficult to get a crisp picture from the camera I'm using now. (I won't be getting my new camera for about another week and half.) I am so happy I'm exploring still life painting this week to get back into practice. I hope you enjoy it!ShannonThis painting is $35.00 (Shipping and sales tax included). Read more:Autumn

I was amazed when I looked at them all in the end and realized-they all like the same. Good thing my new collection starts tomorrow! I guess I need a change :) I got inspiration for next week's collection when my brother brought home a little pumpkin. I was thinking of painting still lives made up of fruit, but when I saw the pumpkin, I remembered back in high school when we painted a still life made up of Indian corn, gourds, and various autumn pieces. I became inspired to create a series of still lives featuring the autumn season that has just begun. So, probably for the next two weeks, I will be painting autumn Read more:Artwork

Art Elements 1: Color - Grayscale & Neutral Colors: Artwork A Day 2007-09-27 16:48:00 "Neutral
"Completed: 9/27/07conte crayon on paper7" x 5" "Grayscale"Completed: 9/27/07conte crayon on paper7" x 5" These two artworks had to be completed with conte crayon, because I did not have many browns and grays in my chalk pastels. Still following the same concept, I created one artwork to represent the grayscale ranging fom white to differetn shades of grey to black. I also created an artwork to show the neutral brown tones we usually see in some figure and portrait drawings of the Old Masters. The next two days will be of monochromatic artworks of the primary and secondary colors. Thanks to all my visitors who view my blog and support me! As I'm nearing the end of this week, I'm debating whether to work with charcoal or paint again (since I've been drawing so much). I will be branching out and using other mediums as soon as I am able to purchase these mediums. (For now, I have to work with what I've got already since I have bills to pay!) These colors used together can make strong compositions and visual statements. The color wheel above shows the primary and secondary colors. The colors that are unmarked are the tertiary colors. This collection is the first art elements collection I have created, showing the basic fundamentals of where the visual arts lie. This week's art element will be color and I will create artwork based on some of the basic color schemes studied along with art. My first three pieces have to do with complimentary colors (colors that appear on opposite sides of the color wheel). I depicted these colors swirling next to and through each other to show how they boldly compliment their opposite color and make each other pop off the page. I really enjoyed creating these three, because I love working with complimentary colors and creating designs that show off each of their attributes. I took these photos awhile back while I was still in college and always meant to clean them up. I am posting a series of photos I took at a lake/park near where I live. I want to pick up photography again, because it was a way different expression of art than painting or drawing could offer (and vice versa). Uncharted: Artwork A Day 2007-09-12 21:09:00 "Uncharted"Completed: 9/11/07mechanical pencil on paper6" x 8""Uncharted" Detail 1 "Uncharted" Detail 2 "Uncharted" Detail 3 This drawing of the series means a lot to me. For some reason, instead of thinking of the body part first, I drew the rest of the picture. I knew I wanted it to have some kind of message that our lives are left unplanned-either to be filled in by us, others, or spiritual beings. I decided to draw a full figure to symbolize how stressful not knowing the future can be. This is personal to me, because the idea of not knowing the future scares me a lot. And I feel like that girl, when all you want to do is curl up and not look at anything or anyone-to hide. Not being able to find an example of the pose I had in my head, I took pictures of myself with a self timer on the camera and me trying to figure out the pose. (Now, of course, the drawing looks better than me-but I just needed the pose! ;). The rest of the drawing shows a tree and various designs running up the Read more:Artwork

"mechanical pencil on paper6" x 8" "Unspoken" Detail 1 "Unspoken" Detail 2 "Unspoken" Detail 3 This is the second drawing in my "Un" collection. This one is all about things we may think about but are left unspoken. The lips are the body part that are drawn because this is where we have a chance to say our thoughts, but may choose to keep them secret. I drew hearts exploding out of the barrier because we often do not speak of who we love and how we love. The second part of the drawing has exclamation pointsm which symbolize unspoken ideas. The final part is drawn with clouds which show unspoken dreams. Hope you like it! Shannon This drawing is $40.00 (Shipping and sales tax included). Read more:Artwork

Unseen: Artwork A Day 2007-09-09 09:40:00 "Unseen"Completed: 9/8/07mechanical pencil on paper8" x 6""Unseen" Detail "Unseen" Detail"Unseen" DetailThis week starts a new series, and I have decided to change my subject matter each week since there is so much to cover! (However, I probably will create bigger collections out of some of these mini collections. Also, each collection can have commissioned pieces created). The subject for this week has to do with the body and designs depicting the title of the piece. My first artwork is called "Unseen" and has to do with the fact that many of us have our eyes open, but do not see everything around us. The picture shows an eye that is open and designs that show beauty and outer space. My love for astronomy ( the study of outer space), not astrology (study of the zodiac signs), definitely came into play for this piece. However, it is more than just something I like to draw. Many things in outer space can be seen, but much is left unseen. The possibilities of what could be out there are Read more:Artwork
Imaginary Flower #7: Artwork A Day 2007-09-08 16:56:00 "Imaginary
Flower #7"Completed: 9/8/07crayon on paper7" x 5" This is my last flower in this series. I actually had a little trouble deciding where I wanted the angle to come from. There are several light drawings underneath this in which I tried to decide with angle to use. I finally setlled on this one, and I also decided to make it a little different than the rest. I did not use black in this picture like I did in the other ones. This series was interesting and fun for me to do and I definitely will work with crayons in the future. Shannon This drawing is $35.00 (Shipping and sales tax included). The reason I decided to use crayons for this series is because it seems like an underused medium in the visual arts past elementary school. I was reading "Artist's Magazine" and found an artist named Jeffrey Robert who is a wonderful crayon artist who creates realistic artworks with this medium. I found it fascinating that such high quality artwork could come from crayons. The style I used Read more:Artwork
Imaginary Flower #6: Artwork A Day 2007-09-07 13:35:00 "Imaginary
Flower #6"Completed: 9/7/07crayon on paper7" x 5" When I knew I was nearing the end of the week, I decided to look at my collection so far. I had tried different color combinations, placement of shapes, and lights and darks. I realized I wanted to get the most out of this before the collection ended, so I decided to try a different kind of angle. Most of the flowers I drew so far were from a straight on angle looking into the flower. So, for this one I tried to create the view from peeking over the flower's side. I did not have reference photo, so this was a little unusual for me, but this one has turned into my favorite of the collection so far. Stay tuned-one more imaginary flower tomorrow and next week starts a new medium and style of flowers! Shannon This drawing is $35.00 (Shipping and sales tax included). Read more:Artwork
Imaginary Flower #5: Artwork A Day 2007-09-06 14:39:00 "Imaginary
Flower #5"Completed: 9/6/07crayon on paper7" x 5" I decided to go with a cooler color scheme with this one. (Although, I couldn't avoid that bright yellow!) You will probably see the color combination of blues and yellows together more than enough, because it's one of my favorite color combinations. I have two more flowers for this week's collection, then it's on to a new medium, but with the same subject! Keep on checking back! Shannon This drawing is $35.00 (Shipping and sales tax included). Imaginary Flower #4: Artwork A Day 2007-09-05 15:47:00 "Imaginary
Flower #4"Completed: 9/5/07crayon on paper7" x 5" I decided to change the color scheme for this flower drawing. By drawing very loose in this way, I'm really starting to learn more about where to place my colors to emphasize light and dark. I know from observation where to show light and dark, but doing it from my imagination is teaching me a whole other way of thinking about it. I loved creating this piece allowing the analogous colors to flow into one another (the purples and blues in the flower) or contrast against each other (the purples in the flower and the yellow-greens in the leaves). Time to get more ideas for next week! Shannon This drawing is $35.00 (Shipping and sales tax included). Read more:Artwork
Imaginary Flower #3: Artwork A Day 2007-09-04 15:59:00 "Imaginary
Flower #3"Completed: 9/4/07crayon on paper7" x 5" Another imagined flower to add to the collection. As soon as I started this collection, I knew I would not have trouble coming up with an idea each day. And as fun as this collection is for me, I am almost midway through the week, which means I need to start thinking of next week's style and medium. I am extremely happy I started this blog, because being able to create everyday is becoming essential to me. I hope to add to this blog to hold many different styles and mediums to show the different sides of art. Back to coloring!ShannonThis drawing is $35.00 (Shipping and sales tax included). Me 2007-10-12 18:18:00 Hello everyone! I hope you are still interested in checking back on my blog! Many things have come up that has made it very difficult for me to keep up with posting my art for the past few days. I just received most of my information that I lost (made possible by a friend of mine to whom I can't thank enough). I have also had to start working two jobs until I get a full-time teaching job. (This is starting to result in 40-60 hour work weeks). And now I am working on getting back on track. I have realized I need to reorganize myself and my plans for my art. This blog is for me to explore, create, and challenge myself as an artist. This may mean I need to change some of my goals for my blog and myself. My updates will come within the next few days, along with new artworks and past artworks. Thanks for your interest!Shannon
Back To Business 2007-10-11 17:18:00 I will be posting starting tomorrow again. I just got my camera, but at the same time I may have lost many documents I have saved, including photo records of my artworks from a dying usb drive. So, my past few days have been filled with trying to figure out how to get those documents back. Someone is looking at it for me, and even though I don't have those photos back, I have to get back to posting! I will be looking to re-photograph my Autumn Still Life collection with my new camera and continue with that collection until the end of the week. New artworks to come!Shannon Read more:Business
Having To Wait 2007-10-08 17:20:00 Well, much to my disappointment, the pictures I tried taking of my painting today were too blurry and much too hard to work with. So, I need to wait until I get the new camera that I ordered. I'm upset by that, but I guess all I can do is wait. I did finish a painting today and will post it as soon as I get my camera! Stay tuned!Shannon Read more:Having
Artwork Back Up Tomorrow! 2007-10-07 15:11:00 I will be back to posting artworks tomorrow (as long as the camera cooperates!), as well as reworking some of the layout on this page. My new camera should arrive sometime this week, so I won't have to worry about not being able to photograph my art. In addition, I will soon be taking pictures of the artworks I have created in the past - all the way back to when I was 11, and posting them online as my "Blast From The Past" artworks. Hope you like all of my new updates and keep reading!Shannon Read more:Artwork
Update 2007-10-05 07:14:00 Hello everyone! Sorry I couldn't post this yesterday - I will not be able to post pictures until Monday, October 8, because I have to figure out a way to fix the camera I have now. (Hopefully, my new camera will arrive shortly after that). Thank you to all of my visitors who have watched me progress through different mediums and styles so far! New artworks will be coming soon, as well as some exciting updates to my blog. Soon, I will also be creating an official website for my daily artworks, as well as my larger pieces. Watch for these updates soon!Shannon Read more:Update
