UFC 77 Betting Odds: Rich Franklin vs Anderson Silva II
2007-09-27 18:06:00
They say styles make fights and true that might be, the mental state could make this fight. We've seen the scenario repeat over the last few years; the top fighters in the world (Hughes, Cro Cop, and Lidell for example) finally get crushed and suddenly they seem 10 years older, tentative, and start talking about how many fights are left in them. While others come through with relentless determination and self belief (Couture). Now, Rich Franklin finds himself in this situation, he has found solid footing in the octagon again with wins over McDonald and the powerful Okami. So, is he ready? Has he returned to being the hungry Franklin who always found away to dominate his opponent? In Franklin vs Silva I, Rich was surprised by Silva's strength and knees from the clinch. The problem was that Silva capitalized on his advantage quickly and Rich's will to fight was broken before his nose.I'm going to give Franklin the benefit of the doubt in this fight. He will be prepared not only physic

UFC Fight Night 11, will air September 19 on Spike TV at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The main event between Kenny Florian and Din Thomas is a much better fight than the originally planned Fisher vs Thomas fight. There are a number of other fights that should be very tight matchups. UFC 75 Betting Odds and Picks...Sort Of
2007-09-08 13:34:00
Well I mentioned before that the fall was my busy time for work and this month is as thick as is gets. I wanted to appologize for not being able to keep my odds tables up to date or discuss any of the fights for tonights show. I'm home for the day but that's about it for the month of September. With little to no explanation here's my picks for UFC 75 and a couple of small bets.Henderson vs Jackson....I'm glad I get to see this one, and Randy Couture nailed it on the head when he said it depends on theses two individuals ability to fight their fights and not play to the strength of the other. I'm going with Jackson via TKO and I'm happy enough with the odds at Sportsbook (-115) to place a bet on this one.Bisping vs Hamill....I think Bisping's skill set will allow him to find the way to another victory via TKO as well. Again Sportsbook (-220) has all of the other books beat in terms of value here. This is my one other bet.My other picks for the night:Mirko Cro Cop... Odds way too

UFC 74 Betting Odds and Picks
2007-08-22 16:42:00
Time has once again snuck up on me and I'm going to have to go very short on the bets and matchups for UFC 74. It's a card I'm dying to see, but I'm going to have to wait for 9 days. As my last post explained there are a few dogs I'm sniffing but, the double dog bet is definitely risky. So let's just lay down the lines and you all can play what you like.Desert Dogs Smart Bets for UFC 74:Main Card Bouts:Randy Couture +120(Bet $100 to win $120.00) BookmakerGeorges St. Pierre -220 (Bet $100 win $45.45) BodogKurt Pelligrino +260 (Bet $100 win $260) SportsBook......This is 1/2 of the double dog bet.Alberto Crane +350 (Bet $100 win $350) Bodog.............The other 1/2 of the double dog bet.Kendall Grove -230 (Bet $100 win $43.78) BetUSPreliminary Bouts:Marcus Aurelio +100 (Bet $100 win $100.00) BodogRenato Sobral -210 No ActionThales Leites -270 No ActionFrank Mir -165 (Bet $100 win $60.60) SportsBookAs always, if you are going to bet, only play with what you are willing to lose. I Double Dog Bet You
2007-08-20 20:45:00
There are a couple of dog bets on this card that if made together have some value. I don't think both of them will happen, but I do think at least one will and the odds are good enough to take both bets to lighten your exposure.Don't take these as straight picks, this bet is based on two fighters being very over valued right now. The first is Roger Huerta, the second is Joe Stevenson. Both of these fighters have been put to the test several times and have also found great popularity. Most of the betting public is looking well past these two fights simply believing they are up against lesser competition. Suffice it to say I think the odds should be much closer on these two fights. So without the usual fight analysis, here's the bet with the best lines. I'm splitting a single bet evenly between these two lines.Kurt Pelligrino +260 (Sportsbook)Alberto Crane +350 (Bodog)This is definitely a risky bet so as always risk what you are willing to lose. You wanna make a bet....

Guida vs Aurelio Betting Odds
2007-08-20 20:10:00
Surprisingly this fight which will need a small miracle to actually make the broadcast is one of the most talked about matchups on the card. Part of the reason is Clay Guida's last two fights in which he lost impressively to a couple of very good fighters. The other reason may be comments like those reported by insidefighting.com, where he basically says he should be 3-0 (UFC) and believes that a win here will put him in the hunt for the LW belt. Let's just get past this one.Guida's overall record is 21-8 and he has a relentless brawling style that fans love to watch. Unfortunately, his two toughest tests in the ring resulted in losses. His most recent was tight and could be argued either way. His style leaves him open to more technical fighters especially on the ground. Although he has significant experience on the ground he's not up to par with Aurelia.Marcus Aurelio (14-4) who trains with American Top Team saw his toughest fights in Pride including 2 fights with Gomi. The first

Josh Koscheck vs George St. Pierre Betting Odds and Analysis
2007-08-07 00:54:00
The UFC commentators are saying that these may be the two best athletes in the UFC. True or not, these two are relentless and very skilled. But who has the upper hand, let’s break it down.Josh Koscheck was a nationally acclaimed collegiate wrestler who moved to MMA in 2004. Most of his early finishes came by way of RNC, the classic win for great wrestlers who overwhelms people on the ground, with the opponent eventually giving up their back and getting choked out. Since his days on TUF Kos has worked steadily on his standup. Those skills were probably best displayed in his fight with Sanchez. Although he did not finish that fight he showed tight jabs and of course his favorite overhand rights. He was able to utilize good footwork and movement to score steadily through each round. The result of his more thoughtful game planning combined with facing a higher level of competition is that Josh has taking 3 of his lat 4 fights by decision. So does Koscheck have the tools to finish a fighte

WEC 29 Betting Odds and Fight Picks
2007-08-01 16:54:00
WEC 29 – August 5th at the Hard Rock Hotel, Las Vegas, NV : This looks to be a solid card with two title fights on the line and one of the top Middleweights in the world stepping in front of a US crowd for the first time. Being free on Versus tops it all of quite nicely. The WEC betting odds I've listed are from Sportsbook.com, Bodog and Bookmaker will like also have their odds posted tonight or tomorrow.Welterweight Title FightBrock Larson (-110) vs Carlos Condit (-120) (FIGHT VIDEO)The Natural Born Killer Carlos Condit, 23 years-old, who holds a 20-4 record and is the current WEC Welterweight Champion, puts his title on the line against the number one contender, Brock Larson (21-1). These two always come to fight and the odds show this is a tight one.Brock's background is wrestling but he has put together a tremendous BJJ submission game, that's proven to be a deadly combination. He also has a solid standup game with good power, but in many fights his reach limits him. His stre

Gabriel Gonzaga vs Randy Couture Betting Odds
2007-07-24 15:42:00
The lines are moving further in the direction of Gabriel "Napao" Gonzaga (video) being a slight favorite over the current Heavyweight Champion, Randy "The Natural" Couture (video). The best odds on Gonzaga are currently -125 at Sportsbook.com and +110 at Bookmaker.com for Couture. It's not often the reigning champion is considered the dog by all of the books and in this case I think it's exactly where Randy wants to be.Gabriel Gonzaga (8-1) moved quietly through his early MMA and UFC fights, until the big bang with Cro Cop. The moment he dropped Mirko with an ironic head kick, he became the most dangerous Heavyweight alive.....At least in the minds of some. His first real test in an MMA ring occurred in 2003 when he fought Fabricio Werdum. Gonzaga was able to control that fight on the ground during the first half, unfortunately by the third round he was gassed and was pounded out by Werdum. Werdum has only to wins by TKO and it's hard to imagine him knocking anyone out throwing so ma

Bodog Fight Card and Betting Odds For July 14 Event
2007-07-11 11:10:00
Bodog Fight Has put together a solid card for their July 14 event in Trenton NJ. There's a lot of experience on this card and quite a few fighters with solid UFC and Pride experience. This will be his first fight in a Bodog venue. Let's just say he is a smart well rounded fighter.Prangely, whom some may remember beating Travis Lutter in 2005 and the lossing to Jeremy Horn in his next UFC fight, has now been training with the AKA camp and has really improved the technical side of his game.Pran

The big juicy card we've all been waiting for is finally just around the corner. The odds have moved around quite a bit but they appear to be settling in. The main line to keep an eye on is Franca's, it looks good now but could definitely get better.Desert Dog’s Smart Bets for UFC 73:Main Card Bouts:Anderson Silva -160 (Bet $100 to win $62.50) BetUSAntonio Nogueira -500 No ActionRashad Evans +120 (Bet $100 win $120) SportsBookHermes Franca +225 (Bet $100 win $225) BookmakerKenny Florian -310 No Action (Bet on Alvin if line hits +400)Preliminary Bouts:Chris Lytle - 400 No ActionFrankie Edgar -240 No ActionJorge Gurgel -285 No ActionStephan Bonnar -300 (Bet $100 win $33.33) SportsBookAs always, if you are going to bet, only play with what you are willing to lose. I would seriously consider a dog bet on Alvin Robinson if his odds hit +400, he

UFC 73 Early Betting Odds
2007-06-26 00:38:00
UFC 73 Stacked betting odds have for 3 of the main card fights (right side of page) have been out for almost two months now and with all other events out of the way the public eyes are now focusing on the July card. All three of these main event fights are very tight matchups which are close to 50/50 in true probabilities. However, current belt holders and fan favorites tend to become overvalued especially during early betting. If you're looking to shop for odds on a few of the dogs now is the time.....These are not necessarily my predictions, just pointing the current value on the dogs.I'll discuss the specifics of the matchups in more detail later this week, but for now I'm just going to point out where the best returns are.Hermes Franca odds recently moved to +225 at Bookmaker.com. I would say that this is one of the best values on the card. The trend looks like it could get as good as +250, but it's worth catching it here if this is a bet you want to take.Nate Marquardt's odds

TUF 5 Finale Betting Odds and Picks
2007-06-22 02:28:00
Desert Dog here, back for another installment of my betting picks. The TUF 5 Finale is not providing much in the way of betting values. There are several lopsided bouts including the return of the little boiled lobster Allen Berube. Why is this sack of taters fighting?Well with odds like these bettors are forced to look to the dogs to find any sort of value. Currently I’m looking at three matchups and probably only two bets unless there is some favorable movement in the odds. The “Smart Bets” for the TUF 5 Finale:Main Card Picks:BJ Penn -340 No Action unless odds hit -275Manny G. -115 (Bet $100 to win $86.96)Roger Huerta -850 No ActionPrelim Picks:JoeLauzon -650 No Action Cole Miller -600 No ActionGray Maynard -550 No ActionLeonard Garcia -800 No ActionBrian Geraghty +400 (Bet $100 to win $400)Thales Leites -600 No ActionAs always, if you are going to bet, only play with what you are willing to lose. TUF 5 Finale Betting Odds: BJ Penn vs Jens Pulver
2007-06-20 20:32:00
The TUF 5 Finale is when the top dog for the 155 tournament is decided but most people are focusing on the BJ vs Jens fight. I'm just as guilty as the rest of the public. So is there value in betting this fight? First the odds.....BJ Penn Betting Odds (-300 Bodog), (-330 SportsBook), (-350 BetUS), (-360 BookMaker)Jens Pulver Betting Odds (+290 BookMaker), (+260 SportsBook)(+250 BetUS), (+240 Bodog)In my mind the question is how can Pulver win....BJ has never been knocked out (no I don't count the Hughes TKO) his chin is great; this really cuts into Pulver's odds for finishing this fight on the feet (under 10%). On the other side, Jens is facing a heavy handed opponent and he has been TKO'd 5 times including his most recent loss to Lauzon. Jen's is a collegiate wrestler, but his only option on the ground is escape or defend. BJ could fade as he has in the past, but if BJ's current weight is any indication, his conditioning is good to go. So in my mind the only two possible ways fo

I had myself a caddyshack night when my computer was zapped during a lightening storm. The result is I've lost a lot of data and my ability to get to most of the net. I have minimal access from a work computer, but we have so many filters I can't even get to blogger to see if this email post will work. Top that off with Blogger crapping out....ah technology. So, I won't be able to update my odds tables for UFC 72, but the links still work so you can check them manualy. I lost all of my breakdowns etc and I will be leaving tomorrow for 4-5 days Thursday morning so I won't be able to reccomend any wagers. I will highlight my fight picks for the night and as always you can make the call on where to make the cabbage. Hopefully I'll be back to full steam for the TUF 5 Finale.Main Card Bouts:-Rich Franklin (Dec) vs. Yushin Okami-Forrest Griffin (TKO) vs. Hector Ramirez-Tyson Griffin vs. Clay Guida (Sub)-Jason MacDonald (Sub) vs. Rory Singer-Ed Herman (Sub) vs. Scott SmithPreliminary Bout

UFN 10: Great Fights and Great Bets
2007-06-13 16:45:00
For myself that was one of the best Ultimate Fight Nights I've seen. Not just because I went 5/5 on my bets. The fights were all decisive and action packed. The crowd never booed out of boredom there were no derisive split decisions (although oddly Fisher thought his fight should have been a draw).I would have liked to see the "Barn Cat's" Fight but from what I hear it wasn't too exciting.Only one real low note for the night was Alonso's Late stoppage after McFedries put Radev down and then pounded 3 more nails into his coffin. I don't know if he was making eye's at the ring girls or if he just forgot where he was and what his job was. That was extremely dangerous, and I have to give McFedries some of the blame for not stopping after crushing his head into canvas the first time. Adrenaline or not these guys are pros and should be in control of all their actions.I'll have odds, picks, and bets for UFC 72 up tonight or tomorrow morning. Now go do something with your goddamn day...

UFN 10 Betting Odds and Picks

Well the UFC schedule for June may not be filled with title bouts but there are some exciting matchups coming and a few of those are coming in UNF10. Personally I’ve got my eye on the Fisher vs Stout rematch, Jon Fitch of course and I’m secretly hoping to the see Tamdan McCrory vs Pete Spratt….McCrory is my favorite dog pick for the night and it would be nice to see the action. The Desert Dog Bets for UFN 10:Main card picks:Spencer Fisher -180 (Bet $100 win $55.56) (BookMaker)Jon Fitch -320 (Bet $100 to win 31.25) (BookMaker)Drew McFedries -125 (Bet $100 to win $80) (BetUS)Preliminary card picks:Thiago Tavares +120 ($100 win $120) (Bodog)Luigi Fioravanti -300 (No action)Tamdan McCrory -145 (Bet $100 win $69) (SportsBook)Nate Mohr -165 (No Action) (Bodog)Gleison Tibau -450(No action)The best values on this card are Tamdan McCrory and Thiago Tavares. Fisher and McFedries are on the edge in terms of value so watch your bet size with those. Jon Fitch has a real fight on his hands, but

The 'Ol One-Two: UFC 71 In The Books
2007-06-02 22:54:00
I'm just getting back from work and had to drop a quick post about the UFC 71 results. I'll start by saying SWEEEEEET night of fights and bets.Rampage came through and showed that in the ring and in the cage he's got what it takes. The LHW and HW divisions are looking fantastic these days with hopes of many dream fights looking very probable over the next year.Terry Martin's fight again showed that he is for real, I'd like to see how he does in a fight that goes a few rounds to see how his conditioning really is, but he looked very solid at 185.The Starnes vs Leben fight showed why you play the odds in match ups that you perceive as even (or close to it). Leben has some soul searching to do after dropping this decision loss. I still enjoy watching him fight, but anyone fighting at that level is looking for a path to some title and I doubt he's going to see a shot in the UFC.Burkman just got eaten up by an in shape and hungry Parisyan. Halfway through round 2 you could see the win

UFC 71 Betting Odds and Fight Picks
2007-05-24 12:14:00
Back again with my picks and bets for UFC 71. I’ve researched these fights for the last month or so but as a working man (yes, it really is work) I’ve been very busy, so my writeup is a bit thinner than in the past. The main card is packed with fights that could go either way and in terms of odds provides some great betting values. I’ve listed 5 bets for the night, but I definitely have a couple of favorites. I’ve also dropped the point system from my picks (ie. 1 point to win 1.45) and went with lines based on $100 bets; this fits the odds system better and gets rid of those pesky decimals.Picks and Bets for UFC 71:Quinton Jackson +165: 100 win 165 (BetUS)Josh Burkman +260: 100 to win 260 (Bookmaker)Terry Martin +130: 100 to win 130 (Bookmaker)Keith Jardine -500: No actionKalib Starnes +210: 100 to win 210 (Bookmaker)Preliminary Card Picks:Din Thomas -325: No actionThiago Silva -225: No actionSean Salmon -120: 100 to win 83.33 (Bodog)Wilson Gouveia -255: No ActionAs always, if

UFC 71 Odds Rolling Out
2007-05-23 17:45:00
The oddsmakers at Bookmaker.com have a different view of the Terry Martin vs Ivan Salaverry fight than I do. They've booked Ivan as the favorite with odds of -160 (61% chance to win). I'm sorry but Ivan's been too inactive and he's fighting a bigger man with only 2 loses and ridiculous KO power. Don't get me wrong Salaverry is a very cagey fighter and could win but, the odds here scream out for a bet on Terry Martin (+130).I'll have the rest of the bookmakers odds posted in the next couple of hours. We'll see how much disagreement there is on some of these undercard fights.....I smell a scalp play coming.I'm putting together all of my picks and bets for the entire UFC 71 fight card and will have it posted here and at UFCMania.com in the next day or two. In the mean time drop a dime on Terry ASAP.You wanna make a bet....

Betting Props for UFC 71
2007-05-23 00:09:00
Bodog.com is trying to spice things up a bit for UFC bettors. They've added several Prop bets for the top two bouts. The bets and odds are listed under "Mixed Martial Arts - MMA Props". Props are very specific bets such as, Liddell wins in the 5th round (10/1 odds), and because they are so specific the odds are much higher. The max limit for bets is $100. If you're convinced what round the fight will end and even better who will end it, Prop bets can be a fun and cheap way to play. If you miss it's 10 or 20 bucks if you hit you take home 100...200 bucks.Just a little something new to keep the MMA ADD entertained.PS Bodog currently (changing often) has the best odds on Liddell (-175) if that's you're inclination. You wanna make a bet....

UFC 71 Betting Odds
2007-05-21 10:46:00
Chuck Liddell (-180) vs Quinton Jackson (+175) - With endless training videos, interviews, and commentaries the betting line for Chuck Liddell and Quinton Jackson is finally tightening up. If you were looking to follow Randy Couture's advice and bet on Jackson the best odds are behind you now (but still worth it down to +170). But, if you think the Ice Man is taking this one home you should be able to get a piece of him for around -200 and maybe even -175 by Friday or early Saturday, with four solid books to chose from you should be able to play either side of this one comfortably. Myself, I already dropped my dienero when Jackson was +200.Karo Parisyan (-300) vs Josh Burkman (+260) - The betting public is still in love with Karo and money continues to come in behind him. The line on this fight should be much closer (-115/+135). My prediction for the fight is decsion for Burkman and a hell of a fight. With the current moneyline, the only value I see is a bet on Josh Burkman at +175 on

Farewell Randy Couture
2007-10-11 17:36:00
Randy Couture may be one of the best things to have ever happened to MMA and the UFC. His persona, his ethic, his relentless strength and and intelligence made him one of the best ambassadors the sport has ever seen. If I was a kid...or a middle age man, he's the ideal role model in terms of how to pursue your ambitions.I am glad he's going out on top and of course I wish he'd stepped in the Octagon with Fedor, but in the end what a superb fighting career. Besides complementing him the only thing that comes to mind knowing I won't see him fight again is....FUCK!You wanna make a bet....

Rich Franklin Betting Odds - Too Good To Pass Up
2007-10-10 09:41:00
Alright I've put my bet in today. I had been considering a bet on Silva if his odds improved, but the money is still floating his way at most books. Today Bookmaker posted odds of +185 for Rich Franklin .It's just too good of a value for me to pass up. Franklin is a very smart fighter training with an excellent team and he will definitely have an effective game plan ready for this fight. His probability of winning is much better than the 35% chance Bookmaker is listing him at. For insight into those odds here's a CBSSPORTS article discussing rematches at length (Thanks Ufcmania for spotting this one)The other line I'm keeping an eye on is a chalk bet on Brandon Vera. The odds tightened up by about 10 points this week with Vera currently sitting at -175. I would prefer to enter this one around -150, but I'll likely bite at -165. This is another fight I'm really looking forward to both of these fighters have a lot on the line and questions to answer.**update Bradon Vera's odds hit

Couture and UFC Press Conferences Today
2007-10-25 10:03:00
Two separate press conferences will be held today. The first will come from the UFC at 4 pm. Eastern. This will be a media conference call and the information will likely hit blogs and news pages this evening around 6-7 pm. I would keep an eye on Bloodyelbow.com for a recap of the call. The expected topics are a new television deal, Couture , Wandi vs Liddell, and Brock Lesner. The second press conference will come from Randy Couture at 4:3o pm Eastern. It will be broadcast via live stream by ProElite.com directly from the X-Treme Couture gym in Vegas. Randy is expected of course to discuss and answer questions about his "resignation" and all of the details surrounding his current status. He will also likely voice his opinions about the current state of affairs with the UFC and MMA in general. You wanna make a bet....

UFC 78 Bisping vs Evans: Early Betting Odds
2007-10-25 17:47:00
Rashad Evans : Best Odds -275 at BookmakerMicheal Bisping: Best Odds +250 at BetUSWell right off the bat I've noticed many comments on forums etc (myself included) that this card is lacking in "star power". But, don't mistake that comment for meaning that I think the card is weak. The headline fight between Micheal Bisping and Rashad Evans is a more exciting match up that the original Evans - Ortiz. The styles of these two fighters should provide for a very active fight.
