UFC Betting Tips: Manage Your Bet Size
2007-10-30 16:13:00
Managing your bet size is one of the most important aspects of successful sports betting in any arena. To keep things simple I want to compare three ways of determining your bet size. The starting bankroll will be $400 and all bets will be on favorites with odds between -115 and -190 for a total of just 20 bets. The range of odds selected provide that all bets won will have a 53-86% return. The bettor is getting 65% of these picks correct and each example follows the same win/lose pattern. Here are the three simple Methods:Consistent Bet Amounts - Simple as is sounds, select a bet size and stick with it. In the graph above I selected $100. The amount is dependant on the size of your starting bankroll and comfort level. Many bettors only risk 2-3% of their bankroll. Others take a higher proportion especially if their starting amount is small ($100-500). Never go over 25% you won't hold up to losing streaks. The Key here is being consistent. If your ability to pick fights is 65% and you b

UFC 78: Houston Alexander vs Thiago Silva
2007-11-06 07:22:00
Houston Alexander (8-1) has quickly become a ticket seller after his quick and impressive TKO's of Keith Jardine and Allesio Sakara. His abilities behind a microphone haven't hurt his public image either. At 35 Houston has suddenly found himself exactly where he wants to be, in the UFC aiming for the top of his division. His fighting style was best described by Mike Goldberg at UFC 75 "That dude is violent!". His first two UFC fights were so short it's hard to say much else. His boxing and Muay Thai looked very good, especially against the slower paced Sakara. His ground game however is completely untested on the UFC stage. His game plan for this fight is to keep it standing and work his inside game. Hopefully we'll get to see his conditioning in this fight.Thiago Silva (11-0) holds a black belt in Brazilian Jui Jitsu and trains with the Chute Box team. As with most of this Brazilian team his Muay Thia is very strong and suprisingly he likes to keep his fights standing 9 of his wins

EliteXC: Betting Odds for Nov. 10 Renegade Event
2007-11-09 21:25:00
Several books have laid the odds for 5 of the fights at this Saturdays Elite XC: Renegade event. BetUS is currently offering the best odds and I will use those in this post. Two big names in MMA are back in action and one underground big name is making his real pro debut. The Elite XC events are broadcast on Showtime and are well produced. There's a couple of betting values on this card and definitely a number of fights worth tuning in for, especially Kimbo Slice.+325 KJ Noons vs Nick Diaz -450The reach and average ground game of Noons will leave him struggling to utilize his skill set in this fight. Diaz should be able to continue his winning ways once he decides to take things to the ground. Diaz via Submission+250 Bo Cantrell vs Kimbo Slice -350Kimbo may be a street fighting legend but he has some serious skills and has put a lot of effort into training for this fight. Cantrell is a well seasoned fighter but his record (10-10) speaks for itself, unpredictable. I would be hard pres

The dog bet to consider on this card is Tamdan at +205.Main Card Bouts:Rashad Evans (-320) vs. Michael Bisping (+240)In my opinion this fight between Bisping and Evans is a more exciting match up that the original Evans – Ortiz one. UFC 78 Betting Odds Rolling Out
2007-11-14 17:50:00
A complete set of picks and bets will be coming soon, but I wanted to highlight a couple of lines that BookMaker.com just released. One of the fights you likely won't see is Tamden McCrory (+215) vs Akihiro Gono (-275). This line is a steal, Tamden (8-0) may be a self proclaimed geek but he's also a 6'4" freak in the cage. He won his first 6 fights via TKO and his last 2 by submission, including Pete Spratt for his UFC debut. Gono is very seasoned (27-12-7) but, he is 5'9" , making his UFC debut, and has not fought in a year. Yes Gono has seen it all and is basically fighting a kid, but, this match up looks very good for Tamden's reach, style, and pace. Tamden via TKO.The other line to keep an eye on is Karo Parisyan vs Ryo Chonan. BookMaker's line of +275 on Ryo is the best yet and may be just enough for those of you who are leaning toward a debut win for the "Piranha".There are some other lines worth betting on but I'll hit those on my complete write up, which will be posted he

UFC 78: Karo Parisyan vs Ryo Chonan Betting Odds
2007-11-12 17:18:00
Karo Parisyan (videos) is best know for making every fight a war and this match up sets the stage for another fast paced, technical battle. Karo's 17-5 record doesn't tell his story on it's own, but a closer look defines his fighting style. First, he's only lost to three people Sean Sherk (3 times, 2000-1), Georges St Pierre (2004), and most recently to Diego Sanchez (2006)...his showing at both of his UFC losses were very respectable. Second, Karo wins almost all of his fights via decision, this is due to his relentless and technical style.Unfortunately, it also shows he's not known for his stand up power or his ability to finish submissions. He has the core strength you here about with all top level grapplers and a pitbull mentality, that's what wins fights for him and that's what makes him fun to watch.Ryo Chonan (videos) is forever know as the guy who took out Anderson Silva with a flying scissor heel hook....just remember he was getting his ass kicked for most of that fight

UFC 82: Anderson Silva vs Dan Henderson Booked
2007-11-21 16:47:00
The best thing that came out of UFC 78....Dana White announced Anderson Silva will fight Dan Henderson at UFC 82, currently scheduled for March 1, 2008 in Ohio. Most of the MMA community saw this as the best possible challenge to Silva's reign over the thin Middleweight division, but up until this announcement, Dan Henderson didn't seem to agree. Dana has once again shown a fighter the green light...God bless him.You wanna make a bet....

UFN 12: Clay Guida vs Roger Huerta Odds Widen
2007-11-28 14:48:00
The moneyline for this fight was set about 3 weeks ago around -115 for Huerta and -120 for Guida. Now the money has swung significantly in favor of Clay Guida with the odds now spread to -155 Guida / +125 Huerta (BetUS). I see solid value in a bet on Huerta at +115 on up.Clay Guida, plain and simple, is 2/2 in the UFC. He shows tremendous pace and technical skill, BUT, he has not shown the ability to finish high level fighters. Guida should not be the favorite in this fight. Guida's last three fights went to decision and although the fights were exciting and fun to watch he never had his opponents in serious trouble. Clay has a solid submission game but it's not good enough to finish Huerta, his standup is also good but it's mostly defense and counter striking. Clay's biggest strength has been his wrestling and ability to avoid being controlled on the ground, That won't be enough to win against an equally skilled wrestler with good submission defense.Roger Huerta may not have foug

UFC 79: George St. Pierre vs Matt Hughes Betting Odds and Analysis
2007-12-21 10:58:00
Best Odds: Hughes (+190 BetUS) St. Pierre (-200 Bodog). When was the last time Matt Hughes was a 2 to 1 underdog....never. The question is have the books picked this one right and are just using odds to tempt the public money, or will the corn picker return to glory?Matt Hughes is self admittedly nearing the end of his career and looking to this as his big redemption fight, which in his mind will lead to him retiring in a blaze of glory. Nine months out from his last fight with Chris Lytle, Matt has had a very long build up toward his next fight. Up until a month ago he thought he was training for Serra in what he viewed as an easily winnable fight. Now he finds himself facing his Nemasis, the man who dealt him possibly the biggest loss of his career. No matter how mature Hughes is as a fighter that always plays a roll in the mental battle of this game. Hughes has stated what he sees as his advantages in this fight; the shortened training time for St. Pierre, his strength, and his domin

UFC 83: Georges St Pierre vs Matt Serra II Betting Odds and Analysis
2008-03-11 10:40:10
Will lightening strike twice? Most observers of this match up say it was a "fluke" outcome the first time around. Excuses for GSP were popping up everywhere. No excuse was needed, he got cracked by a very good fighter. Serra caught him - created an advantage - maintained his attack until it was finished. It's what can happen in any fight with such skilled fighters.Unfortunately, it's my job to decide what the odds of it happening again might be!The main change I see in this match up has been GSP's training and attitude. Between working with Jackson's stable and refocusing, he appears to have the right level of respect for this fight. After seeing his second defeat of Hughes is don't think we need to discuss his skills.Matt this time is coming in with much less momentum and his fighting con

Cage Rage 25 Betting Odds: Shamrock vs Berry and Others
2008-03-07 13:26:04
CAGE RAGE 25: MARCH 8 ON SHOWTIME, location: London, England. Four bouts are scheduled to air on showtime with a few interesting undercard names that we might also get a peak at like Ken Shamrock 's son Ryan who will be fighting at a whopping 135 lbs for his second profession al fight. All of the Odds listed are from Bookmaker.com. I'm going to list my actual bets for this and future events. I won't be listing my dollar amounts though, instead I'll use the ubiquitous betting term "unit"; in other words your typical bet size which is dependant on your bankroll and the size of your cazzo....Main Card:Ken Shamrock (-220) vs. Robert Berry (+180)The 44 year old Shamrock in his first fight since back to back losses to Tito in 2006. Desert Dog's Top UFC 82 Underdogs To Keep An Eye On
2008-02-22 12:34:00
There are some unique match ups in line for UFC 82 and a couple of them are very prime dog bets. Aside from the slight under dogs like Tanner, Henderson, and Fioravanti, there are two big underdogs who are sliding under the radar a bit.Dustin Hazelette (+365 Bookmaker) and David Bielkheden (+400 Bookmaker) may not be names you recogognize immediately but they are serious contenders against Koscheck and Sanchez respectively. The odds offered are reflective of name recognition and not the actual match ups at hand. It's probable that only one of these guys will pull of an upset, but with the odds offered a bet on both will pay off nicely, even with only one of them winning.Dustin Hazellett is a smart submission specialist who has had his best success against agressive wrestlers and strikers.

UFC 82: Evan Tanner vs Yushin Okami Betting Odds
2008-02-21 18:50:16
A comeback in the fight game is never easy, but stepping in against a fighter like Yushin should get the old juices flowing for one of my favorite nutballs, Evan Tanner - I mean that in the best possible way - Tanner is not the prototypical MMA fighter obsessed with being the best or tracking where he fit's into the mix.Tanner has been training at Hard Knocks Muy Thai and the Xyience Traing Center in Vegas and at Absolute MMA in Salt Lake City with Josh Burkman. Physically, he looks to be coming back well. Mentally, he appears to have the drinking demons behind him and is back to focusing on his very simple lifestyle and his joy of the battle. for a closer look at his daily prep for this come back check out the Evan Tanner Online Journal.Yushin will be an extreme test of Evan's current con

UFC 82: Cheick Kongo vs Heath Herring Betting Odds
2008-02-21 16:34:22
Cheick Kongo (-155 BetUS) and Heath Herring (+145 Bodog) are set to lock horns in a fight that will determine the direction of both of their careers.Kongo has been training with Juanito Ibarra which is great for working his overall game, attitude and standup, but I sure hope he has some serious BJJ training as well. Kongo's five UFC fights have shown both his strength on his feet as well as his weakness on the ground. In his last fight with Cro Cop he looked more comfortable on the ground, but that could just be him feeling Mirko was not a threat there.Cheick still only has two ways to beat Herring, outwork or knockout .Herring is definitely a vertran with 40 fights behind him in nearly eleven years. Recently he's struggled in the UFC facing some very tough match ups. Of course, we all rem

Elite XC "Street Certified" Betting Odds
2008-02-08 10:13:19
ELITE XC "Street Certified " airs February 16 on Showtime. The event will take place at the Bank United Center in Miami, Fla. Some how the "big fight" for this show is between two guys who draw about as much attention as the repubilcan primaries in the MMA world. Elite has pulled in some good talent, but their pool is shallow and it shows in this card.Main Card Bouts:"Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (-450 Bodog) vs. David "Tank" Abbott (+370 Bookmaker)Not sure how many MMA fans actually care about this fight. Old school dirt bag fighter, vs old school street fighter, I guess. Tank has had his ass whooped by some of the legends of the sport and landed a few haymakers of his own.Kimbo of course is an internet legend, with a basic boxing style. He has been training with Bas Rutten for some time now and

Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir Betting Odds and Analysis
2008-01-30 20:13:58
In the beginning of January Lesnar was coming in as a fairly heavy favorite (-200) and I suggested that due to experience and the match up of skills Mir should not be the underdog in this fight and the time was ripe for a bet on Mir at +160 (Mir vs Lesnar original betting post). Now that some time has past and bettors with more MMA experience have started bringing in their money, the lines have evened up a fair bit.Mir is still a slight dog at +120 and a bet on him now isn't as strong of a value, so lets look at the match up and see what the straight pick is.Frank Mir, former Heavywight Champ, has been slowly working his way back into top form since his accident in 2004. Just as he was looking most confident and fit, he was quickly stopped by Brandon Vera at UFC 65. Nine months later he re

UFC 80: Gabriel Gonzaga vs Fabricio Werdum
2008-01-08 09:57:05
It's always interesting to see rematches when almost every variable has changed. A little over 4 years ago these two met in Jungle Fight 1. The fight took place in a ring, outside, in very high heat and humidity, and Gonzaga was 20 lbs smaller than Werdum. They both put on a good transition clinic for about a round and a half. After that it was a fight of attrition. These guys were toast....soggy toast. I would expect the rematch to look nothing like this....Gonzaga vs Werdum 1 Fight at Ultimate MMA VideosWith four years of experience, Cro Cops head on a platter and a shot at the title under his belt, Gonzaga has gained a lot of respect and his odds are showing it. UFC 81 Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir: Bet it Now
2008-01-03 15:34:26
Quick pick note for the UFC 81 headline fight. Frank Mir's betting line is sitting at +160 at Sportsbook right now. Bodog had him at +165 but that line has since come down to +140. I would expect that as time gets closer the odds on this fight will even up.Frank Mir should be the favorite in this match up due to styles and especially experience. Brock isn't going into a brawl with Tank Abott here. He is facing a very skilled and tough finisher in only his second MMA fight.Lock in the bet now while the odds are this good.......You wanna make a bet....

UFC 80 Betting Odds: BJ Penn vs Joe Stevenson
2008-01-03 00:50:51
This should be a great fight but not that great of a betting opportunity...Unless you believe Stevenson is going to catch BJ in a guillotine.Best Odds: BJ Penn (-280 BetUS), Joe Stevenson (+235 Sportsbook)Not to take too much away from Joe "Daddy" but, he's yet to face a top 10 Lightweight, his best move is a guillotine, and his stand up is one step above Matt Hughes. In Joe's last fight with Pelligrino it was easy to see the holes in his game. Kurt opened up the fight picking Joe apart from the outside as he continually moved straight forward. Next, Kurt took Joe down repeatedly to control the first half of the fight. Of course during that first half Joe attempted 6 guilotines. In the second half, Kurt seemed to gas and Joe was able to turn the tide and applied some nice GnP. However, even
