Google's 9th Birthday
2007-09-27 23:39:00
Two weeks ago, AFP informed us that "Google , at age 10, is the official heart of the Internet. Born 10 years ago, the Google Internet search engine has grown into the electronic center of human knowledge by indexing billions of web pages as well as images, books and videos." That's true, except that Google is 9 years old. Even if Larry Page and Sergey Brin registered the google.com domain in 1997, Google was officially launched one year later."Google opened its doors in September 1998. The exact date when we celebrate our birthday has moved around over the years, depending on when people feel like having cake," says Google's help center. You can read more about it directly from Google. In the recent years, Google's birthday has been celebrated on September 27th with a doodle displayed on the homepage. Happy birthday, Google!

India v Scotland, Group D, : ICC World Twenty20 Points shared as rain washes out play
2007-09-14 02:17:00
A persistent drizzle in Durban resulted in India 's opening match of the ICC World Twenty20 being abandoned without a ball being bowled. Both India and Scotland got a point apiece, and it left India in a situation where they had to avoid a heavy defeat against Pakistan on Friday to make it through to the Super Eights. Scotland finished their engagements with a point after the 51-run defeat to Pakistan in their opening game. Ryan Watson won the toss and decided to send India in to bat at Kingsmead, but the rain came down again long before the players could take the field. For India, who have played just one Twenty20 game, it meant a day-long wait to give a largely new-look side a hit. Names synonymous with Indian cricket over the past decade and more - Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly - were missing, and for the prodigal sons like Virender Sehwag and Irfan Pathan, it was an opportunity to revive stalled careers.Read more : http://cricket.vgreets.com/news/India2.asp

Roger Federer beats Andy Roddick in 3 sets
2007-09-06 02:18:00
NEW YORK, Sept 6 - To Andy Roddick 's credit, he played nearly flawlessly against Roger Federer, serving brilliantly, returning well, too, and giving tennis' top player a tough time.To Roddick's dismay, it all added up to yet another loss.In a match as tight as could be for 2 1/2 sets, Federer was barely better on the most important points and emerged to edge Roddick 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4), 6-2 in the quarterfinals, moving two victories away from a fourth consecutive U.S. Open title."I'm not walking off with any questions in my head this time. I'm not walking with my head down," 2003 champion Roddick said after falling to 1-14 against Federer. "I made him play as well as he can play."Both came out wearing black shirts and shorts, Roddick adding a baseball cap, and Federer his trademark bandanna. The outfits matched and so did the level of play, right down until late in the third set, when Federer finally earned his first break points.T his rematch of last year's U.S. Open final was hard

Sick Michael Clarke defies the odds
2007-10-01 00:09:00
Sick Michael Clarke defies the oddsOctober 1 : Australia's decision to travel with a team doctor for the first time in 20 years paid off immediately as a stomach bug floored Michael Clarke in the hours leading up to his century on Saturday. Clarke reportedly woke at 1am on the morning of the match severely ill and only an intense course of medication allowed him to play.Clarke showed few signs of the illness as he compiled 130 at nearly a run a ball at Bangalore, although his good work was partly wasted as rain washed away Australia's hopes of victory. Without help from the doctor John Orchard, the Australians believed Clarke would not only have missed the Bangalore game but potentially Tuesday's match at Kochi as well."I was certainly giving him [Orchard] a high five when Pup got his hundred," Adam Gilchrist, the stand-in captain, told the Daily Telegraph . "Pup was up all night with gastro and without a medical professional there is no way he would have played."The Australian repo
