The Hollyridge Trail
2007-09-23 23:29:17
Ah, what a nice way to spend a Sunday… First we’ve gotta gas up - this is Los Angeles after all - so I help guard the Bogie-beetle while mom pumps gas.     I check the receipt carefully, and then we’re ready to roll! We went to the Hollyridge trail in Hollywood…   Gotta be careful of those rattlesnakes and mountain lions… But basically it’s just a place to have fun!   There were lots of people on horses, but mom’s camera was being persnickety (again) so no cool horse pictures. I did get to meet lots of cool doggies - ALL GIRLS TODAY - always fun.  We walked for a few hours, then it was time to go home.  Definitely a fun, easygoing afternoon. Love, Bogart

Bogart in Gooberstan
2007-09-22 21:36:33
I am SUCH a happy boy.   I’ve just received this from my best Goober-buddy Stanley:   He wrote an incredibly cool post on his blog talking about how how his mama saw my blog and Sunshade’s blog, and we inspired her to get back on the Airedale-horse and get herself another Dale after losing her beloved Rosie. Which was, of course, Stanley and so all is now right in the world… I LOVE YA MAN… thanks for making me an honorary member of Gooberstan - Bogartoober it is I LOVE YA MAN… Love, Bogart

Auto-Tagged
2007-09-22 19:37:42
I got tagged by my Aire-buddies Maggie & Mitch to play a Vehicle tag game… to pick a vehicle that expresses my personality. Other than the current Bogie-mobile (black VW New Beetle) which gets lots of people to smile as I drive by (much like I do), I’d have to say that this gets a bit of the Bogie-mystique right: It’s a Ural Retro sidecar motorcycle.  Yup, it’s the one that mom wants to get (I will supposedly be subjected to riding in the sidecar at some point if I like it).  Riding free with ears flapping in the wind,  (like Mitch would be if he was allowed to ride on his dad’s new Indian) and certainly unique (I don’t see a lot of them even here in Los Angeles which has plenty of unique vehicles) with a lot of personality - well, that’s me and that’s the Ural. I have NO idea of who to tag since I haven’t seen many other dogs posting this one, so I’m gonna go with:  Stanley,  Butchy & Snickers, & Noah and h

Winter Storm???
2007-09-21 16:44:34
So mom heard that there was going to be a winter storm today here in Los Angeles. Ok… we could certainly use some rain (we haven’t had any since April and even then, it wasn’t much), and maybe we’d even get some thunder, lightning, or gosh maybe even SNOW. She got REALLY excited because she misses “real” weather. Yes it’s September in the desert, but it was in the newspaper and on the news…   I spent my first big Winter Storm day in Pasadena. You can judge for yourself how winter-y and storm-y it was… Notice all of the snow on the streets and the silly humans - unprepared - wearing shorts and flip flops.     I stopped for a cold drink at the outdoor “ice” fountain…   A little game of hide-and-go-seek (mom kept the leash on so she would be able to find me in a snow drift or through the violent hail in case we got separated)…   Traditional winter foliage… &n

Pegetables
2007-09-17 11:25:40
For my birthday my Aire-buddy Stanley sent me a package of Pegetables - and I went goofy.  Even though there I like very few doggie treats, these were an instant hit.  I’m not sure what it was about them, since the texture is very treat-like (not like food, I mean), the colors are bright and vegetable-y, and heck, they’re VEGETABLES. So unbeknownst to me, mom sent an email to the lovely folks at Pegetables to let them know just how much I love these things.  Also because she couldn’t find them at our local Petco or little pet stores. Well this weekend a special package arrived - for MOI - with a nice, big packet of Pegetables. WOO-HOO!  The first one I wanted was my favorite one, a CELERY.  Now I have no idea if I like real celery or not but I LOVE the Pegetables celery! I’ve also indulged in a CARROT and a CORN and can say that they’re all pretty darned yummy. After indulging I needed a little rest.  We’ve been out hiking a lot lately to

I Can Make You a MAN
2007-09-15 00:28:34
Today’s food-ical interlude, courtesy of chef dad - welcome to Chez Bogart: Start with only the best fresh ingredients… I like my carrots GRATED, not sliced… Add some water to the pot with the carrots… simmer while moving on to the good stuff… Slice that beef tripe into small pieces… Mmmm… Corazon (beef heart - we had to learn this because we go to a Mexican butcher) I must sample the corazon to be sure that it’s fresh and chopped to my specifications… Looks pretty good dad… A pat from the vegetarian… notice the foaminess beginning to develop on my mighty beard… Add the meat to the simmering pot… Sometimes I get a little rice, sometimes pasta.  This week - rice Mmm… liver - don’t forget to chop that into little pieces! BOGIE STEW Smells mmm mmm good Ah, the proverbial full bowl… It’s awfully good… I’m going to start eating whi

Day of the Dales
2007-09-10 00:51:03
First I must say that I LOVE my pal Mareike: WPvideo 1.02 She lets me give her full-on Aire hugs, and I can lick her face mercilessly and not only does she not mind, she likes it! We shared a cheeseburger at the Good Microbrew and a lot of laughs during a long, lazy lunch on this fine Sunday afternoon… Then it was DALE TIME!!! As you know, Mareike has 3 Airedales and they’re my BEST BUDDIES! I knew when I saw her that I was going to get to see my Dale pals, and I wasn’t disappointed… Mom also managed to catch me in some more - ahem - “adult” moments. As I am an unneutered male, sometimes I have those special, uh, urges. Mareike has three Airedales - Robin, Kermit, & Jupie - and Jupie is the only girl. Jupie is kind of tolerant of my “special” feelings, which is awfully nice. Robin gets right to the point - there will be no canoodling of any kind. WPvideo 1.02 Kermit on the other hand was my best pal t

Fifty
2007-09-07 15:35:37
I wanted to take a moment to eulogize a friend that I never got to meet - Fifty . He belongs to a friend of my dad’s and he lived in Idaho - and from what I’ve heard, he was quite a character. I can see it in his eyes, can’t you? I was trying to talk him into starting a blog of his own and I think he was considering it seriously - until his untimely, and all-too-soon passing. Go forth little Fiddy - and poop all over the Wally Mart in the sky! Love, Bogart

The Fresh Pet Experiment
2007-09-06 23:59:39
Mom and I got an email from Fresh Pet asking if we’d want to try out their Deli Fresh line of foods for dogs.  Hell yeah I wanna try new foods!  I’m not a big aficionado of most dog food as you know, and am completely spoiled that dad makes my food for me most of the time.  There are a few brands that I will tolerate as long as I get my homemade food most of the time, but I’ve never tried this before… I really liked their tagline:  Food for Dogs, Not Dog Food. So today the FedEx man brought a package for me - special delivery - and I opened it immediately.  Inside the green Fresh Pet bag (which I’m gonna use in the Bogie-mobile to keep doggie supplies) was two rolls of the Deli Fresh doggie food.  Mmmm… I was totally ready to eat it right from the roll.  THAT’S how good it smelled.  Mom let me sniff but she wouldn’t let me eat it directly from the roll (despite what I’ve heard about humans eating cookie dough from t

Present from Lillie
2007-09-01 15:35:37
Ah, the Aire-doration continues! Lillie Valentine is a love-l-y girl Dale with a very talented mom! A package arrived for me - I’m getting kind of used to this now, and I LOVE IT - which I grabbed out of mom’s hand and immediately ripped open. Smells like girl Dale, gimme gimme gimme!!! This is so cool - it’s a book that mom can use to put lots of photos of ME in it (it does say AWESOME ANIMAL on the front, so who else would she wanna feature?) - and it’s made out of paper bags and LOTS of cool stuff! Mom was in awe when she saw it, in awe of the creativitiy and craftsiness that went into making it. BIG AIRE KISSES TO LILLIE!!!!!! This made my day - it’s been sooooo hot here in Los Angeles (even hotter than usual as we’re in the midst of a nasty heat wave that’s causing fires, trees dying, and cranky humans all around) and even my daily walkies haven’t made me a happy camper. It’s too hot to go anywhere with the humans beca

Presents from GooberStan
2007-08-31 19:24:27
A place that I hope to visit someday, it looks like a spot I’d like an awful lot of SERIOUS fun… But in the meantime a bit of GooberStan was right here in sweltering hot Los Angeles!  I’m a bit late in posting about the FANTASTIC box that arrived from that great, fuzzy place because of some technical issues with my secretary (that’s mom).  She will, of course, apologize profusely for the oversight. Hell, in the meantime, I’m busy enjoying this cool box ‘o stuff - not just one but TWO bandanas (a camo and a skull one, I feel SO BADASS), treats, bully sticks, a tennis ball-and-holder, a kitty note pad (LOVE this), a patch that says Dale (this made mom l-a-u-g-h…), a c-r-a-z-y squeaky fish (that I’m not allowed to play with at night… apparently I get a little carried away and the sound alerts the humans while they’re sleeping), a stuffed octopus (this is officially my newest favorite stuffy - right after the chicken-on

Firehouse Dog… The Sequel
2007-08-30 10:22:59
First, there was a movie with a cute dog.  Everyone thought he was an Airedale, but his lack of the distinctive black saddle made Airedale owners everywhere know that while he was awfully cute, and he certainly was an (Irish) Terrier, he was no Airedale.  So there simply HAD to be a sequel, this time with not one mighty Dale, but two… Starring the two cutest Airedales ever to fall in love over the internet… Bogart & Sunshade. This is the poster that my dreamgirl Sunshade sent me… while I still don’t have the pictures of me licking and kicking the box it came in (mom says later today and also the pictures of me with my new super package from Stanley), this is the poster.  It’s sooooooo cool!!!!  Mom says we’re going to have it framed so I can always see my dreamgirl… Love, Bogart

OH MY DOG
2007-08-30 00:12:13
Last night I got 2 incredible packages… one from my dreamgirl Sunshade, and one from my Aire-bud Stanley… Mom is going to try to get some better photos of all of the exciting stuff that was inside, it was really difficult to take pictures here at night so the first ones came out kind of crappy. But the world NEEDS to see the super-cool new stuff I got, so she’s promised to get some GOOD photos in the morning.  I’ve gotta show all of my friends my new presents!!!! Who knew that a birthday can go on for this long… COOOOOOOOOLARAMA!!! Love, Bogart

Chewtoy Vick
2007-08-26 00:18:04
This is FANTASTIC: Take some trading cards picturing a disgraced NFL superstar. Add some dog slobber and teethmarks. What do you get? The most valuable Michael Vick cards — by far — on eBay, that’s what. Collector Rochelle Steffen of Cape Girardeau, Mo., gave every Vick card she owned to her dogs and let them go to town on the images of the Atlanta Falcons quarterback who is scheduled to plead guilty to a federal dogfighting charge Monday. Once Monte, her 6-year-old Weimaraner, and Roxie, her Great Dane puppy, were done worrying them, nearly two dozen $1-$10 cards were crumpled, crimped, chewed, torn and generally in a sorry state. Some even had corners missing. As of Thursday evening, the highest bid on the lot of 22 cards had risen to $455 and more than 2,000 people had viewed the posting. Seventy-seven people already have bid on the auction, which ends Sunday. The next-most expensive Vick cards — well-preserved specimens from his rookie year — were going for less t

HANDSOME
2007-08-26 00:10:56
I just got tagged by my Aire-bud Hercules… there’s a new game in town, the Middle Name Game: Here’s how it goes: 1. Post the rules before you give the facts. (Listen up Pups, these are the Rules!!) 2. List one fact that is somehow relevant to you and your life for each letter of your middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had. 3. When you are tagged you need to write your post using your middle name and facts about it. 4. At the end of your post choose one dog to tag for each letter of your middle name. Be sure to let each puppy know she/he has been tagged. (It’s ok if you don’t do this, just tag who you want to tag!). ******** So, many of you know that my official AKC name is BOGART HANDSOME DEVIL. So I guess I have a little more work to do coming up with all of the letters in my middle name… H is for Handsome, as in Handsome Devil A is for Airedale Terrierist, ahem, Terrier N is for Naugh

From My Dreamgirl…
2007-08-25 00:42:45
So a package arrived for me today… all the way from Canada… what could it be?  It’s not STILL my birthday, is it??? It smells awfully darned good… kind of like… MISS SUNSHADE!!! WPvideo 1.02 Sunshade, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my presents!!!  The treats are super yummy, (mom claimed the stuffed Airedale so I wouldn’t destroy it), and the Bogie photo tag is FANTASTIC!!!  And those green tripe treats, well, I’ve NEVER tasted anything so delicious in my entire life!  Mom says that yes they stink, but as long as I like ‘em… Love, Bogart

Birthday Burger… Finally
2007-08-20 01:01:59
Yes, it took mom almost a WHOLE WEEK to get off her butt and take me to Rally’s for my birthday burger. I was prepared to be underwhelmed, and quite frankly, ticked off, but then she did something so wonderful, so mom-like, that I couldn’t go through with my initial plan to ignore her pathetic attempt at burger reconciliation. She picked me up - just like when I was a baby. Allow me to explain - it’s freaking hot here in Los Angeles. And it has been for ages. But especially in the last week it’s been really, really - did I mention REALLY? - hot. So hot that we cannot go for midday walkies anywhere in the city, only in the park. I am a delicate flower, with delicate paws (yes they’re huge, but they’re sensitive, damnit). Waking on the asphalt causes me to cry out like a puppy because it HURTS! Yes, it’s THAT HOT here. So when we got to Rally’s we had to stand at the outside counter for awhile while the person inside was talking

Murphy - Brown Lab
2007-08-18 00:35:44
Meet my new pal Murphy .  We met in the funniest way today… Mom and I went to Pasadena and thought we’d have a romp in the park.  So she pulled over the Bogie-mobile and when we got out we were in front of a flower store.  All mom saw was a flower store but I saw something m-o-r-e… I saw Murphy inside and she saw me so we had a little love-and-sniff-fest through the glass door.  I thought I’d never see her again until… While mom and I were in the park (and thankfully, after I’d already done my “business” and mom had put it in the trashcan), Murphy and her dad came over too!  Running toward me like we’d known each other for years, it was that pretty brown girl from the flower shop.  One sniff of each other’s butts and we knew we’d be friends. Since it was a public park and apparently I don’t listen (thanks a lot mom) I had to stay on leash but I still got to have an incredibly good time running around w

Chef Dad
2007-08-17 00:18:07
Well apparently dad is going away again - only for a few days this time - so since he knows that mom isn’t much of a cook and he wants to ensure that I stay a nice, strong boy, he decided that he’d have to rustle up some grub for me in advance. Photos by dad today - that’s unusual Apparently only the largest pot in the house will do. Yes, the one that takes up almost ALL of your cabinet space and doesn’t get used that often. It’s probably full of cobwebs and other pots, but since we’re cooking for a few days in advance, we had to go BIG. First dad cuts up the beef heart and liver into little chunks (I’m a little chunk kind of guy) and boils ‘em up into a kind of soup. Then he adds my FAVORITE part - pasta!!! I’m a huge fan of the wide noodle. Make sure that everything is cooked through… Then I got a chance to sample some of dad’s work - it was pretty darned good - I gave my paw of approval. Notice though if yo

Happy Birthday to MEEEE
2007-08-14 12:01:38
Ohmygosh, this is the best birthday EVER!!! It started out with my favoritest breakfast - CAT FOOD.  Trust me on this one. It’s so much yummier than dog food, and I got a whole can of my own. Mom brought out my cake — not a big cake this year (after last year’s “cake coma” where I consumed a huge bone-shaped cake, passed out from all of the goodness, then went over to my Dale friend’s house and in true rock-star style immediately puked out all of the cake which my Dale friends happily then proceeded to eat… good times) just a “pup cake” with a special birthday candle.  Mom and I made a wish then blew out the candle… gimme that pup cake.  I’m more of a frosting kind of guy rather than an eat-the-whole-thing man so I finished off the frosting first.  I’ll have the rest of the cake part later (maybe). Then it’s on to the best part - THE PRESENTS!!!  I got some packages in the last few days but mom wo

23 Squidoo
2007-09-26 22:50:56
Nope, the title is not a typo. I’ve started two new “lenses” on Squidoo - one about the Dog Blogging phenomenon, and one on the even more phenomenal Airedale Terrier Blogging phenomenon. If you’re a member of Dogs With Blogs I’d LOVE to include your blog on the Dog Blogging lens… mom just got started on it so it’s still a little bare, so do let me know if I should put your blog up on there.  And if you have galleries on FlickR or videos on YouTube let me know that too - I’d like to populate the site with ALL DWB material!  Just leave me a comment here or on my Chatterbox or drop me an email - bogarthandsomedevildog@yahoo.com and I’ll put yours up asap!  Also for anyone already listed, I mostly pulled description info from your blog, if you want to write something special for your description let me know that too! Check ‘em out! Love, Bogart

Happy Dales
2007-09-30 23:41:33
Ah, another fun and exciting Sunday at Mareike’s, spending the afternoon with my Dale buddies…   We all had a great time, but of course most of my interest always seems to go to Kermit - the one-eyed Dale - who lets me hump my frustrations away. Thanks again man. This time there was a guest dog - her name is Bree - she’s the pretty striped girl and she has a very “special talent” with the hose. All in all, a SUPER FUN day!!! Love, Bogart

The Boxers and Me

Overwhelming Boxer Cuteness
2007-10-13 23:36:12
A day chock-full of Boxer -y goodness… today I got to see my girl Heidi and the two new Boxer pups that will be sharing her house… they are way too cute for words.  They have a funny smell (mom calls it “new puppy smell” and apparently I stunk like this too when I was a baby) but I found them interesting.  I was trying to play with Heidi but she didn’t feel like playing today - she was very tired and just wanted to rest on her couch. This is Dee-Dee, the girl pup.  She looks a LOT like her Aunt Heidi… she has on the pink harness in the photos (cause, well, she’s a GIRL) This is Fritz, the boy (notice the BLUE harness)… he has really cool stripes and white mittens on his paws… Heidi seems tired but happy.  She wagged her sweet little stump when I came in, and I was really happy to see her.  I was a little confused as to why she didn’t want to run outside with me, but I could tell that she wasn’

Day of Drool
2007-10-13 16:13:31
I am really, really good at working up some nice, foamy drool. I can tell that mom isn’t exactly thrilled with this special talent of mine, but what can I say… I know that you dogs will understand. Most of my best work comes when dad and I engage in a little hearty stick-work:       See?  I’ve already got my drool on… I think because it was a little warm today for what was supposed to be a crisp, autumn day here in the desert of Los Angeles, my drool machine was turned onto “high”. Good times. Love, Bogart

A Message From Mom
2007-10-12 23:54:30
Lulu here… AKA Bogart’s mom.  I fully realize my part in not updating Bogart’s blog as much as I - of course - should have been in the last week or so.  I’ve also been remiss in our blog visitations, for which Bogart has duly chastised me.  But despite what Bogart may have told you, there is actually a pretty darned good reason, one that he doesn’t yet know about. His buddy Heidi the Boxer - you may know her as his pawsonal trainer - was diagnosed with aggressive, incurable cancer this past week.  It’s made her mama and dad incredibly sad, and I’ve been sad as well.  She had been up and down with a mystery illness for the last month or two, and it wasn’t until this week when she went to a real doggie specialist and the diagnosis was made. I was the one who got Heidi to her new parents a little more than two years ago - one of my past co-workers had puppies, and Heidi was impossible to resist.  She was a little brown wiggly kiwi, an

Where Did the Week Go?
2007-10-08 10:44:24
Geez, I haven’t blogged for a week.  That’s NEVER happened to me before.  Mom is incredibly frustrated at our lack of battery-power for the camera but lets face it - SHE GOT LAZY. Any suggestions for motivating my lazy mom? Love, Bogart

The Artist
2007-10-19 11:57:36
The park behind our house where I have most of my walkies has been having a little work done.  That’s a good thing, because there are a LOT of dead trees and weird foliage that needs to get cleared out.  Several weeks ago, a team cut down a few trees and just let them roll - and here they have sat ever since.  Notice the lovely CAUTION tape that they put up - I’m sure that this kept people away (not! the trees got tagged with graffiti).  Here I am inspecting it to add my own personal touch.   Everything looks awfully green doesn’t it?  Well, this particular patch of green isn’t from the little, tiny bit of rain that we had recently, it’s from a broken water pipe in the park.  It was bubbling for a few weeks, occasionally it would get fixed, but then it would be broken again.  We think it was from horses walking in the park, but it could also be vandalism.  Anyway it makes a lovely green patch… Aw shucks mom, can’t a boy have a litt

Sausage
2007-10-17 23:31:56
Tonight mom brought home a HUGE tin from work - what could it possibly be?  It smelled awfully tempting, and she was having trouble carrying it by herself.  I wanted to help her open it, but I had to sit  like a good boy while dad got to do the honors…     SAUSAGES!!! Apparently they had an Oktoberfest celebration at the place she disappears to for about 40 hours every week (she calls it “work”, I call it neglect) and there were a LOT of sausies left over because the silly people didn’t know what they were missing!  So my dutiful vegetarian mom went in and scooped up about 30 sausages, sauerkraut, and red cabbage and brought them home to ME!!! Lets just say that while I’m not sure about all of the cabbage stuff, the sausages were MM-MM-Good… Love, Bogart

SoCal Fire Info for Pet Owners
2007-10-25 01:05:08
Thanks to everyone who has been asking… I’m not in any of the fire areas of Los Angeles, so everyone here is OK. The Airechicks just sent me this great info for anyone who IS in those areas, thought I’d pass it along: VCA Animal Hospitals Offers Free Boarding for Pets Affected by Southern California Fires http://www.ad-hoc-news.de/Aktie/127…3/SOUTHERN.html http://www.ad-hoc-news.de/Aktie/12717634/News/13829613/SOUTHERN.html VCA Animal Hospitals announced today that local SOUTHERN California VCA facilities are offering free boarding for companion animals whose families have been evacuated or displaced as a result of the current firestorms. Conveniently located VCA animal hospitals will provide a safe environment for pets that have been affected by the fires through November 5, 2007, on a space available basis. As thousands of families are being evacuated to shelters or facing the loss of their homes, VCA hopes to ease their burden by offering free boarding f
