Before signing up for Strictly Come Dancing, Gethin Jones was pilloried for “dancing like his dad”, teased about his lack of prowess by his rugby mates and readily admitted taking to the dancefloor was “alien” to him.
The 29-year-old from Cardiff, well used to taking on challenges in his role as a Blue Peter presenter, seemed to be facing his toughest test yet.
But the sporty Welsh TV favourite yesterday revealed how he has thrown himself into training “as intense as for any sport”, spending up to four-and-a-half hours a day preparing for the new series starting this week.

Kelly Brook is the hot favourite to win Strictly Come Dancing when the ballroom show returns to the small screen next month.
The 27-year-old actress, who is paired with lothario Brendan Cole, is on odds of 4/1 to dazzle the judges, ahead of EastEnders star Matt Di Angelo, who is a 6/1 chance, according to bookies Ladbrokes.
Ladbrokes spokesman Nick Weinberg said: “Punters have taken a real shine to Kelly Brook. She’s been well backed and the gamble shows no sign of letting up.”
Kelly leads a rather glam star-studded line-up for the latest series of the show hosted by Bruce Forsyth. Also among the hopefuls are Penny Lancaster, former Dynasty star Stephanie Beacham and footballing legend John Barnes.

Strictly Come Dancing celebs are getting a flat £25,000 fee — to end squabbling about who is paid most.
It means big stars
such as Kelly Brook, 27, will earn the same as less well-known names such as TV presenter Dominic Littlewood.
Even the dancers will get equal salaries when the series returns on October 6th.
Household name Brendan Cole, 28, will earn no more than lesser known pros.
Bosses decided on the measure to reduce the backstage bickering of previous series when salaries were leaked to the press — causing friction between stars.
A BBC insider said last night: “If celebrities find out someone is getting much more than them, it causes tensions. Some have kicked up a big fuss.
“There are so many people who want to take part, we don’t have to offer huge fees to get people to sign.

Jealous rivals have dubbed the BBC1 hit “The Kelly Show” because they are convinced it has been rigged in her favour.
And the ill-feeling over “Special K” is threatening to plunge the show into crisis – a week before it returns to BBC1.
Rivals are fuming that she has been paired with housewives’ favourite Brendan Cole, 31, a previous champ.

Fans of X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing are set to lose out as the television rivals go head-to-head next week in a nightmare scheduling clash, it was revealed.
Strictly Come Dancing launches on Saturday with a preview show at 6pm, with X Factor bosses scheduling two shows starting at 6.05pm and 8.30pm.
Next week when the competition begins for the celebrities, including actress Kelly Brook, Rod Stewart’s wife Penny Lancaster and R’n'B singer Aleesha Dixon, the X Factor’s ‘Judges’ Houses’ episode will be shown in a direct clash with Strictly for 45 minutes, forcing fans to choose.

was given emergency medical treatment after tearing his knee ligaments during rehearsals.
The EastEnder yelled in agony as docs bandaged his leg and banned him from practising for three days.

I was having a discussion with someone the other night about the new Strictly Come Dancing season (one of a million similar conversations taking place, I’m sure, in the nation’s pubs and clubs and wherever people gather to talk about pro-celebrity ballroom dancing) and he said that he couldn’t see any farther than John Barnes.
Interesting. Because I appreciated, obviously, that Barnes has put on a bit of timber since his playing days. But in terms of him being an obstruction when the competition gets under way on Saturday, well, it hadn’t occurred to me.
We’ll see, of course. We’ll see so many things. (Assuming we can see round Barnes, this is.) We’ll see whether Willie Thorne has it in him to sustain a dancefloor title challenge over 12 gruelling weeks and end the hurt inflicted on snooker by the underperformance of Dennis Taylor in series four.

Brian, who played the show’s infamous serial killer Richard Hillman, is currently competing in BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing and being on the show has brought up painful memories from his childhood.
“I was rejected from ballroom dancing lessons when I was 11,” laughed Brian.

Strictly Come Dancing hopeful Kate Garraway could be forced to pull out of the TV contest after suffering a crippling foot injury.
The GMTV presenter has already stopped rehearsals for the show after her gruelling routines gave her tendonitis, where the tendons become inflamed and sore.
She has been reduced to using crutches and is on doctor’s orders to rest her swollen, tender feet just days before the programme kicks off on Saturday.
Now there are fears she could be unable to compete in the dance contest alongside the likes of Penny Lancaster, Kelly Brook, Alesha Dixon and Letitia Dean.

The BBC has denied claims Strictly Come Dancing has been “fixed” in favour of busty actress Kelly Brook.
Fellow contestants are said to be upset at how much press coverage Kelly has received in the lead up to the new series, and fear a hidden agenda.
Soap star Matt Di Angelo moans, “Every time I open a paper she’s pictured in a skimpy outfit and there’s just a few lines about everyone else. Judging by the coverage she is getting, Kelly is going to win. Everything is always about her.”
However, a BBC spokesperson counters, “The show is not being fixed in Kelly’s favour. It is totally fair. Everyone is being treated the same. Kelly’s picture has been used by lots of media outlets because she is very photogenic but that is not our decision.”
Brendan is not loking for love 2007-09-30 04:58:19 As another series of Strictly Come Dancing hits our screens next week, the show’s most notorious flirt, Brendan Cole, 28, will be stepping out with lads’ mag favourite, Kelly Brook. But despite a history of getting close to his celeb dance students, this year he definitely won’t be mixing business with pleasure. Brendan’s a happy bachelor.
‘I am single and I love it,’ he states. ‘I was in a relationship for a big chunk of my 20s with Camilla (Dallerup), and although I love being with someone, being single isn’t bad. You have fun and no responsibilities. I’m not looking for love, but if someone came along, I wouldn’t say no.’

Hunk Matt Di Angelo reckons Strictly Come Dancing makes EastEnders look like panto.
The star - Albert Square’s Deano Wicks - admits being put through his paces for the hit series is much harder than rehearsing for the soap.
Matt, 20, who was given emergency treatment for torn knee ligaments last week, told our source: “We rehearse around four hours a day and it’s really tough. I thought learning my lines for EastEnders was difficult - now I realise just how easy it is. Strictly makes East-Enders look like pantomime.”
Matt - who has now been axed as Deano - was in agony after damaging his knee but the biggest hurt was being unable to practise with gorgeous partner Flavia Cacace. Our source revealed: “Matt has the hots for her.”
