HP unveils vision for personal communications
2007-09-18 08:42:00
HP has revealed its vision for the future of mobile devices by unveiling, as a concept, a wearable wireless communications hub. The hub — which resembles a wristwatch and would be worn on the arm — would handle a user's connectivity requirements. All the individual's other mobile devices would then communicate solely with the hub. Phil McKinney, chief technology officer for HP's personal systems group, said, "People want more powerful devices with more memory and more radios, and you have to cram all this in. So we have this concept of a watch, which is something we are driving to. Devices just need to communicate with this watch." McKinney said users would set up a personal area network using ultra wideband (UWB), but also Bluetooth if they were still using today's devices. All the radios for external connectivity — whether 3G, Wi-Fi, WiMax or any other bearer — would be contained in the hub. The hub would also allow a device, such as a s

Fujitsu Concept PC
2007-09-18 08:30:00
Shown off at CEATEC, these two Concept Tablet PCs look like something even sexier than MacBooks and MacBook Pros. First there's the Turn Tablet PC, which is a large PC with a magnetic screen and a stylus that runs Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. It includes a standard keyboard and touch-pad, with a slot-loading DVD drive on the front. The second is a smaller UMPC-like device with the swiveling screen and a PSP/PS3-like UI. We're not exactly sure what the swiveling screen is for, but it sure does look cool. Plan on seeing these in your local Circuit City around the year two thousand and never. Hands On with Dell's XPS Mobile Concept PC
2007-09-15 14:25:00
It took us a half hour to find Dell's booth at CES, hidden away in the cheap seats with such neighbors as Doberman Security and Freedom Laser Therapy. But our long hike through the crowded hallways was worth it, since Dell was showing off the XPS Mobile Concept PC, which was taken offstage so quickly after Michael Dell's speech yesterday that we almost thought it was a cardboard mockup. Well, now that we've seen it up close, we can confirm that it's definitely not cardboard. It's a fully functional prototype PC, weighing in at 18 pounds, with a 20-inch display, sporting 8 speakers, and running Windows XP Media Center Edition. It's got a Bluetooth keyboard along with a matching Bluetooth remote, has DVI output for adding additional displays, and supports both dual hard drives and dual-core processors. The Properties dialog of My Computer identifies it as an Inspiron M2010, though we don't know if that model name will stick, and lists its processor as a dual-core 2.1GHz Intel T26

2007-09-15 14:19:00
One thing is for sure about this concept phone…they could’ve named it shorter. Designed by Pei-Hua Hang, the phone’s name comes from the fact that this concept no longer uses an LCD as viewfinder for the digital camera, instead it uses a transparent frame. And of course, interaction is made through a touchscreen. Source www.cameraphonesplaza.com

Pictures of Fujitsu’s ‘Multi-slider’ Concept phones
2007-09-24 13:51:00
Fujitsu have shown off two new concept phones featuring a novel four-way slider design called, appropriately (if unimaginatively), the "Multi Slider". The new concept features a keypad that slides out from underneath the mobile phone in all four directions, revealing a different set of keys each time. Just when you thought every sliding variant had been tried in mobile phone land, it seems Fujitsu decided they could go one better! Fujitsu were also showing off another mobile phone concept called simply the Slider. This concept phone features a full QWERTY-keyboard that slides out (in one direction only this time), and is clearly aimed at web browsing or instant messaging. Both of these phones are being exhibited not at CTIA 2006, but at the Triennale di Milano exhibition in Milan. Perhaps the bright lights and endless slot machines of Vegas put Fujitsu off, or maybe no-one had told them a full-scale mobile telecoms exhibition was going on![Source: The Register]

HP iPaQ hw6900 Pocket PC Series Mobile Messengers
2007-09-30 13:42:00
HP has just officially announced the launch of the HP iPAQ hw6900 series of smartphones, touted as Mobile Messengers . Let's find out why. To begin with there are quite a few ways through which the hw6900s will keep you connected. These include: Quad-band GSMGPRS/EDGEWi-Fi 802.11bGPSBluetoothInfrared The HP iPAQ hw6900 series is also compatible with Skype Mobile software, allowing customers to enjoy high-quality voice calls via high-speed Internet connections. With the hw6900s distance should not be a problem. What's surprising to me though, is the lack of support for 802.11g. It seems to me like a step in the wrong direction. On the GPS front (available on all models), customers in North America get Microsoft Pocket Streets 2006 to provide basic navigation assistance and a 60-day free trial of the HP iPAQ Navigation Software and Maps is included on CD to provide voice-

Bose’s New SoundDock Portable
2007-10-16 06:24:00
Bose has launched its latest iPod accessory – the SoundDock Portable – a portable speaker system offering three hours of wire-free music at maximum volume from a single battery charge. Those who don’t like their ears bleeding while listening to their tunes can opt for a low-power mode and squeeze a few more hours out of it. Forget any design overhaul from the original one, since it’s essentially just a skinnier version but Bose says the acoustic electronics are an all-new design. It’s compatible with most iPods and there’s an slim infra-red control for remote operation. There’s a carry-handle for carting it about the dock revolves until it is flush with the speaker panel for protection during transit. At £279, the new SoundDock Portable is at the luxury end of iPod docks although you’ll still be able to get the original one for £199.Source – uk.gizmodo.com

FingerCam - world’s smallest wireless colour video camera
2007-10-16 05:59:00
FingerCam is apparently the world’s smallest wireless colour video camera. The size of a dime, which when you consider how low the dollar has fallen in currency exchange terms, makes it very small indeed. Of course you’ll need a hulking great 9V battery pack to power it up, so there’s still a limit to how invisible this is, but until the nuclear model comes along it’ll have to do, won’t it? $95.00. Video sample? While many places claim to have the world’s smallest full color wireless video micro camera set, this is really it! About the size of a US Dime (not a US Quarter which is a much bigger camera these days!) This tiny new generation marvel can set on the tip of your second finger with room to spare as pictured above. Concealing this camera is no problem since it’s so small and you will not have to mess with wires! You can hide this anywhere including clocks, lamps, radios, smoke detectors, books, sun glasses, bags, purses, cell phone sea shells, you name it. You c
