Hollywood Nobody
2007-10-26 08:30:00
I received a copy of Hollywood Nobody from Glass Road Public Relations and am looking forward to reading it. It falls into the Young Adult reading category, and while my boys aren't quite "there" yet, I have a family member who is "there" and is an avid reader. I'm always looking for good reading for her--I think this is going to be something she likes. I'll let you know when I'm done! The

The Vase of Many Colors
2007-10-26 08:25:00
I just received The Vase of Many Colors from Glass Road Public Relations and will be posting my personal review on Monday. In the very small house, on the very grand hill, in the very small town author Rachel Thoene – daughter of veteran bestsellers Bodie and Brock Thoene - masterfully explores the captivating notions of forgiveness and grace in The Vase of Many Colors. This beautifully written

Thirteen Phunny Thoughts I didn't come up with any of these, and I'm sorry to say I can't credit the origin of them. They are in no particular order and have no connection other than being amusing to me--hopefully you will find them so too:1. A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory. 2. A day without sunshine is like, night. 3. Atheism is a non-prophet organization. 4. Beauty is

A Joyful Day
2007-11-01 12:59:00
My Thursday Thirteen is below click here or scroll down! So I woke up yesterday morning to no water. Nice. AmazinglyReally the bill had been paid. But somehow the water department had not credited customers who had paid on line. So they had shut off several of their customers. The paying kind. Oooops. Their bad. Ummmm…my mad. The good news was no one here was in need of a shower and the

I need a vacation. Considering I don't have a lot of time or money, I guess I'll be traveling in my usual armchair manner. After of course stopping by my local bookstore for a vacation or two. Vacations at the bookstore? I'm not talking about the travel section. I am talking about a page by page vacation to a different place, a different time or just some thing totally different. Today I give

Children's Book Monday
2007-10-29 11:27:00
The Vase of Many Colors by Rachel Thoene This lovely book that I received last week is a sweet parable about how God can take our ashes and create beauty. It is a book about restoration and love. It is more than a children's book, it is a family book. I can think of about four or five mommies that I know who would love to read this to their children--hmmm...gift ideas, anyone? Rachel Thoene

Helen Keller: Courage in the Dark by Johanna Hurwitz Illustrations by Neverne Covington The story of Helen Keller never fails to inspire me. Recently I began to search for biography's that Boo could start reading on his own. He has a very tender heart and I thought that he, too would be touched by her courage and accomplishments. I found this "Step into Reading" series book and was not

Fall Into Reading Review
2007-11-04 23:26:00
The Divine Appointment by Jerome Teel Mr. Teel has created a fast paced novel that kept me guessing for quite a while. And even after the facts are starting to become clear it was a race to finish the book so I could “see” the hows and why’s fall into place. This political suspense drama is worthy of a prime time script. Mr. Teel’s characters are immediately riveting. He begins with a

Grains of Gratitude
2007-11-04 00:52:00
This week I am going to remember to be grateful that my husband has a job. Even though the job and the circumstances are threatening to stress us both out. Situations have become crises causing the Cave Geek to leave the house within about a half hour of coming home Friday night. He and his geeky counterpart worked until 3 a.m. or so Saturday morning, came home and then had a confrence call

Luke 12:6-8 6Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. 8"I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. His Eye is on the Sparrow Why should I feel discouraged, why should

Giving Thanks
2007-11-02 10:17:00
Leah at South Breeze Farm is spending Novemer giving thanks and wants to challenge her friends to focus on their blessings. She writes: Yesterday, I started jotting down some Christmas gift ideas because, you know, one can never start too early. But I don't want to rush through "The Thankful Month" and miss so many opportunities to thank the Lord for all He's given me. Before I

'Tis the Season
2007-11-09 08:36:00
The first holiday of this season has passed for my family. We’ve never been limited by the calendar for celebrations. If it falls in the same month (or near enough) we’ve been able to make the best of any situation. Many circumstances encouraged us to hold our “Birthday-giving—Thanks-day” this week. It wasn’t even a weekend. It was made even more hectic because it was “watch week” for the boys

Thirteen Things I Love About Roo Roo turned 10!! I walked out of the room for thirty seconds & came back to find a pre-(gulp)-teen. Who actually mentioned how his hair looked last week. As in, “Did you notice I tried something different with my hair, Mom?” What IS UP WITH THAT? Last week we left religion class and a young ummm…lady crawled halfway out of her father’s vehicle and literally

Grains of Gratitude
2007-11-11 23:03:00
Belated posting on "Grains " today. My cup has seemed to runneth over with busyness, although my house certainly doesn't show any evidence of that. But again, and as always there is so much to be grateful for. Without doubt I am grateful to the men and women who have served our country. Veterans's Day seemed a little more special this year because I feel that this is the year my sons have gained

I've been thinking about what I want my family to focus on this year and thought I would share some links to bloggers that have blessed my heart with their ideas. Okay, I am not feeling particularly creative this year. I am looking for lovely ideas to make this holiday more filled with the Spirit and less filled with retail. I have asked some great bloggers if I might link to their sites to share their ideas that have blessed me. A couple have already responded with kind generosity and I will be sharing their ideas. Restarting? Did I Ever Finish?
2007-11-16 00:58:00
January 1st, the next birthday, the start of the new school year, after tax season, next payday, Monday, the beginning of next month, tomorrow…what do they all have in common? They are the days that procrastinators are most fond of. They are the day that I am always talking about. They are the days when all things will be fresh, when I will be motivated to tackle the hard stuff and move upward,

Black Friday: A Look Back
2007-11-23 02:09:00
I’ve never been a “Black Friday ” fan, I worked at least twelve years in some form of retail and saw more pushing, shoving and herding of hordes than anyone should have to. I remember the last Black Friday I was working. I knew I would be leaving retail after the first of the year. I was sooooooo excited. I was probably merrier then, than all the previous Day after Thanksgivings before. After I

I'm still here. Well, actually I've been mostly "in the car, driving to dance" and backstage helping with getting boys into their costumes. Today is the first show for one cast, my sons' cast and after tomorrow we should find a new routine of sorts. I've managed to wrestle manhandle fight quietly bring the trees and only a thousand hundred few boxes full of ornaments upstairs. I'll share some

The Sovereign's Daughter
2007-12-04 01:14:00
I just received a book from Glass Road Public Relations called The Sovereign's Daughter . This looks to be an exciting read. I am a huge fan of historical fiction. The press release for review says: Set in the backdrop of post World‐War I Russia and the Bolshevik revolution, The Sovereign's Daughter uses Russia's imperial Romanov family to weave a fictional tale of honor, devotion and ultimately
