Children's Book Monday 2007-09-23 23:54:00 Tornado
Betsy Byars has written a superb chapter book for early readers (grades 1-3) that would certainly make a great read aloud also. I stumbled on this story while looking for appropriate readers that discussed real tornados for Boo.
Tornado is a black lab who finds himself deposited in a farmyard by (how’d you guess?) a tornado. The dog’s story is told during another tornado by Pete who Read more:Children

Monday

Tuesday—beef roast, carrots, potatoes and gravy. The crockpot is my friend and there was a nice sale on
Grains of Gratitude 2007-09-23 13:35:00 This week has flown. The weather decide to act like summer a little longer. I suppose that's okay, but I was excited for fall. The trees, however are showing signs of redecorating themselves. How I love to see the tapestry of autumn.
We were blessed because my dad decided to visit us. The boys are tickled to have Grandpa to show off for. Dad and I have had chances to sit and talk which is always Read more:Grains
Children’s Book Monday 2007-09-30 22:56:00 The Summerfolk written and illustrated by Doris Burn
Sometimes books stick with you. Sometimes books for whatever reason make an impression on you and over thirty years later you have a desire for your children to know them. One book that stuck with me is The Summerfolk by Doris Burn.
“Thick as sand fleas and twice as pesky.” That is what Willy Potts’ father Joes says. He’s talking about the Read more:Children

Menu Plan Monday 2007-09-30 22:52:00 Another week ready to fly by. Waiting to be able to have the windows open all day. In theory we could, but the air flow in this house is almost non-existant. Especially if one is cooking. But most of this week's menu is stove-top, crockpot or grilled. Eats for the week include:
Monday
—Taco Mac, raw veggies, fruit
Tuesday— Grilled chicken, artichokes, rice and bread
Wednesday—chili &
Grains of Gratitude 2007-09-30 11:39:00 For forgiveness, grace, mercy compassion, patience, from My Father, my husband, my children and my friends I am grateful beyond words.
If I owe you a phone call, a card, an e-mail, or a response of some sort, thank you for bearing with me. For some reason this week I could write a post about coffee, chocolate & pumpkin but not an e-mail. I could write about apple peelers, books and menus but not Read more:Grains
Grains of Gratitude 2007-10-14 17:21:00 You know, sometimes it is really the small things. I am grateful for snooze alarms and warm blankets. I am thankful my ugly pink recliner that I sit in when I blog. I am thankful for some fun finds that caught my eye this weekend.
But then again, sometimes it is the big things. I am thankful that we got to go to the ballet this weekend. The dance and music was varied. We heard Tchaikovsky, Read more:Grains

Scripture & Song 2007-10-12 15:15:00 And ye shall seek Me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13
O Master, let me walk with Thee,
In lowly paths of service free;
Tell me Thy secret; help me bear
The strain of toil, the fret of care.
Help me the slow of heart to move
By some clear, winning word of love;
Teach me the wayward feet to stay,
And guide them in the homeward way.
O Master, let me Read more:Scripture
Fall Into Reading Review 2007-10-12 15:00:00 The Brink of Death by Brandilyn Collins
Oh. My. Word. If you choose to read this, just set aside some time and be prepared to fly through it. Collins can write a thriller. I read this over two evenings and I am not kidding, each night I had to double okay triple check that I locked the blinking doors. Good grief am I susceptible or what??? Don't answer that.
We start the story with a murder. Read more:Reading
Thursday Thirteen 2007-10-10 21:13:00 It is anniversary week here. Fifteen years since our wedding.
Cue the soft violin music, warm summer night, looking out over a moonlit lake.
Over fifteen years ago my darling looked into my bleary shining eyes under the moonlight and told me he could stay with me forever. I replied that I felt exactly the same way. Sigh...Then he ever so romantically asked, “Could you put that it writing?” The Read more:Thursday

Fall Into Reading Review 2007-10-08 22:04:00 Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
I have yet to read a bad review of this book. When I named it on my Fall Into Reading
list I heard many a good word about it. Let me say, I was not disappointed. This book lived up to everything I heard about it and more.
Golden’s writing swept me away in the first paragraph. It transported me to the pre-WWII era in Gion where the geisha and all girls who

Grains of Gratitude 2007-10-07 16:33:00 My blogging hiatus ending with a sinus infection compounded by a painful earache—connected I am sure. But it seems to respond to medication, so we will go with that. And be grateful.

Children's Book Monday 2007-10-15 07:45:00 The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes

Meeting Shalee 2007-10-23 00:48:00 One of my favorite blogs from the very beginning of my addiction to hobby of blogging was Shalee’s Diner. She appeared across the internet to be witty and well read, totally in love with her family and very sold out to the LORD. She came across as energetic and someone that was very open and easy to get to know. I now can report all of that is totally true!

Grains of Gratitude 2007-10-21 08:06:00 I am grateful that we survived last week. Much running, driving, sitting waiting and then being able to watch Boo’s stage debut. He was a little boy in the ballet Mme.Butterfly. He wore a wig of straight black hair and if you weren’t looking you would never have known it was him. He had a blast. The company was so kind, especially the ballet masters. And I was moved to tears watching this Read more:Grains
Fall Into Reading Review 2007-10-20 22:31:00 The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory.
History differs on many accounts of Anne Boleyn’s life, whether she was the younger or older of the sisters, whether or not she had a physical deformity of her hand, whether or not she surrounded herself with homosexual men and mostly about her relationship with her brother. But all accounts agree, Anne Boleyn, raised in the French courts, came to the Read more:Reading

My Heart is Touched 2007-10-28 00:26:00 I have to tell you, I've been really down lately. There are some health issues (not visible to the general public, thankfully), there's been some worries about the stability of my husband's position due to an acquisition of his company, there's been lingering sadness since Mom died. And some days it's seemed too much.

Scripture and Song 2007-10-26 09:39:00 Isaiah 65:17-25
17 "Behold, I will create
new heavens and a new earth.
The former things will not be remembered,
nor will they come to mind.
18 But be glad and rejoice forever
in what I will create,
for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight
and its people a joy.
19 I will rejoice over Jerusalem
and take delight in my people;
the sound of weeping and of crying
will be heard in it no more.
