Travian, online browser mayhem, no cheating please, travian cheats
2007-09-18 09:03:36
I’m getting a disturbing number of visitors to this blog looking for cheats for Travian. For those of you who don’t know who travian is read all about it here and sign up! I’m currently playing on Server 1 and have been doing so for many….many months. The great thing about travian (in my opinion) is the fact you can log in and spend a few minutes looking after your villages, without the need to constantly check back and micromanage your villages. As you progress and grow larger you will inevitably spend more time managing your villages, planning and instigating attacks and raids…….and of course defending your own from harm! There seems to be an initial period when you join a server where you can become raiding fodder for larger players…..and many players loose interest at this stage. The solution is to get into an alliance that can protect you, and repay them when you grow stronger due to their support. At the moment we are in what the masses refer

Kwari Teaser video, kwari cash for kills
2007-09-14 03:48:11
Got this Kwari video sent on to me. Not a gamplay movie but it kind of shows who they are targeting with their advertising campaign. “Angry Teenagers of the World…..spend your money getting fragged!” Kwari Teaser video I have a few new screen-shots. I must say im not trilled with the engine. There screens look very average, however its the concept behind Kwari that will either make or break it. Its not like they are going head to head with Bioshock and Crysis now is it Here is an idea of how the environment will look, nothing to write home about? Information regarding the Kwari engine was released some time ago. Its the “BigWorld Engine”. There is a technology article about it here. Its no Unreal 3 or CryEngine 2, but as I said before its not the visuals that will draw players to Kwari, its the gameplay that will make or break Kwari…..and of course the €$€$ More to come!!!

Bioshock – A welcome shock to the system
2007-09-10 11:33:58
Alice in Wonderland meets a Clockwork Orange and sets a trend as the next Half Life that’s strung out on LSD on the ocean floor. This game speaks volumes, and the fact that it does with ease is very satisfactory. Straight off the bat it reminds me of the Fallout series. Set in an industrialised and “futuristic” 50s paradise city called Rapture, built under the ocean. Its retro theme is likeable right from the start. Large clunking machinery, water leaks and intricate yet archaic devices that will help you or kill you. The first image emblazoned on your mind (apart from the awesome plane wreckage/ocean/fire at the start) is the leering statue of Rapture’s creator and the words, “No Kings or Gods, Only Man” You make your way down an eerie stair to a foreboding bathysphere which takes you on a colourful ride around Rapture before it drops you off to fend for yourself. Marvellous! The game gets better and better with each sitting. There are games within the main game itself. H

Kwari, earn money playing fps, online gaming for money
2007-08-30 08:29:55
I like the idea of making money playing computer games, and I'm not talking about playing a PSP under your desk in work either! Kwari, a Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter or MMOFPS ;), offers to give you the chance to turn your gaming skills into cold hard cash! Now I'm not good enough to go head to head with the internets best…..but pro gamers will no doubt be licking their fingers at the possibilities Kwari offers! Basically Kwari sell ammunition for their game (which will be free to download). You purchase this ammunition and join online game servers (Please don't say GameSpy….please). The ammunition (or money €€££$$) is then gained (as you frag people) or lost (as you get fragged). The idea here being the better player will get shot less and do more killing, hence earning more money! The game is in development at the moment, but here are a few screen shots of the game in action, no idea what engine it is using?

Bioshock PC Demo, we are forced to wait, Xbox demo before PC
2007-08-16 03:21:35
Gamers the world around are waiting on Bioshock with eager anticipation. Imagine my surprise when I find out an Xbox toting friend has played the game…..before PC gamers even get a sniff in!!!! This is an insult! A game that has its root 100% firmly embedded in the PC and who's predecessors are pillars of PC Gaming, and the Xbox “ers” get a demo before the faithful. I’d say there are thousands of Xbox gamers making their way around Rapture now, moving really slowly and standing still for long periods of time as they fumble with their awkward (and non fps friendly) game pads. I’d say 90% of the people who pulled that demo off Xbox live had never heard of Bioshock or System Shock for that matter! One of the developers over at Irrational had this to say: “I cannot express enough how sorry I am for the wait. Thank you for understanding and your patience. Just remember - only eight days left till you get your hands on the full game.” Well El

DOD: Source, doing normal DOD justice!
2007-07-16 05:46:08
The original Day of Defeat mod was excellent. We mostly played it using the excellent SturmBot plugin, which provided excellent Bots to populate your network games (for lack of real people!!) My only problem with DOD: Source is the lack of Bots, that said this is my only criticism. The thing that made DOD great for me was the level design. Each map seemed perfectly balanced, the result being excellent firefights, and the ability to flank your enemy. In DOD: Source the excellent level design has been ported perfectly, with the levels playing and feeling like the originals, but looking much better due to the source engine. Anzio is excellent!!! The race to the small square and the charge up the alley (ducking in and out of doors) is classic DOD, but far more enjoyable with the added eye-candy and physics! dod_avalanche was always a favourite, and is rendered beautifully in DOD: Source. I think the addition of HDR (Apart from looking great) adds another dynamic to multiplayer fps. When pl

Half Life 2 revisited, ant lions, combine and dune buggys!
2007-06-26 06:27:16
Have not posted in a while…..too busy working and replaying Half Life 2. What a game…..what an excellent game! I'm mostly a fan of free-form FPS. I loved the idea STALKER presented (and almost pulled off perfectly) of a huge world (divided up into squares!!!) where you could pick and choose what quests and jobs to undertake. That said this type of approach opens up a list of bugs the length of your arm! You just can’t be sure what the player will do, and in what order! With Half Life 2 you are very much on the linear path. However I don’t look at Half Life 2 as an FPS “on rails”. I approach it as an unfolding story. The second time I played it through I saved far less, and as a result I found it much more fluid and compelling. The control the developers have over the animation and interaction when using a linear approach enables them to create hugely entertaining scenes. One that springs to mind: “Dog” ripping a door open and th

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, review, bugs, display problems
2007-04-04 08:20:18
Stalker Review So we were 5 years in the waiting. Was it worth the wait…..in my opinion certainly not. That said S.T.A.L.K.E.R is still a very goof FPS. Firstly the reason we were waiting 5 years for what is a game that could have been delivered 2 years ago technology wise, is the fact that the small development team in Ukraine had to constantly update the game engine to keep up with the times and also build in some unique game features in the meantime! As an FPS Stalker is excellent. The game features some excellent ballistic physics that move the game away from Quake + Doom in terms of holding the fire button and strafing! The weapons have varying accuracy and rates of fire, leading to a more realistic approach as you simply cannot spray approaching enemies on full auto as you will hit nothing. You mainly fire single shot or burst mode and go for upper body/head shots. The RPG elements of Stalker are not so good. The inventory system is clunky and there is no character develop

Armed Assault : A big bad world
2007-03-26 08:53:20
After getting the game the first thing you're advised to do is patch it immediately. A lot of games will say this jokingly but with Armed Assault it is a requirement. By the time I had bought the game they were shipping version 1.4 so all I needed was a small enough patch of 250mb. A mate had told me he was downloading a patch for 500meg. Moving swiftly along, I'm a big fan of Operation Flashpoint (OP:F from here on), so I had an idea what to expect - freedom, bugs and a very tough game. ArmedA is all that and more. I loaded the mission editor and plopped myself somewhere in the Island of Sahrani and ran around for a look. The graphics are impressive, lots of textures, wind and HDR effects add to the realism and the distant landscape looks hazy as it would. I really liked the flora that they added to the game, Operation Flashpoint looked like the surface of the moon at the best of times, A:A is much more appealing. The long swaying grass would remind you of Oblivi

Dark Messiah - An RPG Darkly
2007-03-23 07:27:08
You have to love the “Hack em ups”. The first game that springs to mind when playing Dark messiah is Severance. I don't know if the two games are linked (forgive my ignorance) but they are definitely similar. If memory serves me correctly, Severance had the honour of being one of the first games where you could burn objects. Throw a barrel on a fire and watch it burn! So the torch that you carry into the dungeon actually had a use after all (Torches used with "Dark Monitor Syndrome" don't work like torches at all!) Really Severance filled another gap on that mighty bridge to true Physics and Chemistry heaven within Games. Thanks to Half Life 2 and the guys in Havoc who really hammered home a huge Physical keystone. Also in Severance, hence the name, you could separate enemies from their much needed limbs. It lacked hit locations that Soldier of Fortune may have had, so you could only hack a few predetermined bits off. But in D.M you can hack m

Crysis multiplayer beta, screenshots and review
2007-10-03 03:27:10
So through the good folk at fileplanet.com, I managed to get a Key for the Crysis Multiplayer Beta Test. I downloaded the client which is not huge at around 1.38gb. Installation The installation went well, with no problem reported at all. I fired it up straight away before checking any of the game setting and joined a server. I quickly disconnected as the resolution was 800 X 600 and it looked like a Beta of Far Cry, rather than Crysis. The interface is functionally. It is what is to be expected from a quasi futuristic game like Crysis…kind of like the interface you see in movies…ie slick. I ran the auto-detect tool that set my setting to High!!!! I was surprised that it had? I upped the resolution to 1280 X 1024 and put the AA on full. I re-joined a server and was presented with an amazing vista (not windows pun intended). First of all….to get it out of the way…..the eye candy: Graphics and Engine The shadows are excellent. I did not think that shadowing alone could lend so

Red Orchestra Ostfront 41-45 – Revisited
2007-10-01 06:19:50
After a recent LAN I decided to buy this at last. I played it as a free trial about a year or two ago when it came out on STEAM. At the time I wasn’t playing many FPSs with variety. I was playing Call of Duty religiously online. Then upgraded to Battlefield 2 for a while. So Red Orchestra was a nice change, I think I was so interested in it because it was Russians v Germans. Some of the levels in CoD had this too. Without a doubt Red Orchestra gets 10 out of 10 for level of detail. The weaponry is nicely detailed, each class has a different primary weapon to choose from, like all the mainstream FPS nowadays. On the larger maps when tanks and vehicles come to the fore, there are about 8 classes to choose from, giving the player a healthy choice. They have also removed the option of the cross hair, which can be annoying if you’re used to playing CSS or BF but it adds a touch of realism. You must look down the iron sights for an accurate shot! The vehicle element in the game is als

The Black Box gone, no more, removed, lost, forgotten, Valve suck….
2007-10-12 04:27:44
I have been happily enjoying using Steam. At first I thought it a bit NAZI authoritarian the way I had to register every single file through Steam before I was able to play. Some people griped that to play a single player game they needed an internet connection (also broadband, or it took 6 years to register your products!) But as time went on Steam improved and recently has become half decent due to the “Friends” integration that allow you to join your friends online with a click. Nothing novel here (Crossfire) I might add but it worked. Having battled my way through Half Life 2: Episode 1 in about 4 hours, I eagerly awaited the arrival of Episode 2. When I heard of its impenitent arrival I was a little disappointed to learn that it was being sold as a bundle of games. The marketing wizards in Valve offered us: The Orange Box, 5 games in one (HL 2, Episodes 1+ 2, TF 2 and Portal) The Black Box, this pack was initially set for release with 3 titles (Episode 2, TF 2 and Por

Star Trek Legacy, not going anywhere near where men have gone before…
2007-10-10 08:20:17
I have a lot of respect for Bethesda Softworks, they brought us Oblivion&hellip ;and that was not half bad!! But every now again a game is made….that should never have been made. Star Trek Legacy is a space combat simulator. It has a single player campaign mode, a skirmish and multiplayer mode (correct me if i’m wrong). Graphically the game is adequate. The ships are well rendered and receive battle damage as the game progresses. The many planets and nebula are also well rendered. No praise at all here, it looks “OK” nothing more. The single player campaign consists of flying from one planet or asteroid belt to another and scanning aimlessly. Usually a cut scene comes along to present the next fight….which brings me on to the combat……there is none. Basically this is how in-depth the combat gets….ready…..Left mouse button fires phasers…..and you guessed it…..right mouse button fires photon torpedoes! You don’t aim,

Timeshift, Half Life 2 meets Max Payne and they buy a nano suit!
2007-10-18 09:26:53
I recently played through a demo of Timeshift. This title has been on the cards for quite some time, but due to changes at the 11th hour it was delayed for some time!!! Graphics Timeshift is built using its own proprietary engine. The engine itself scrubs up pretty well, features include depth of field effects, some fancy “Crysis-esque” blurring effects and decent textures. The lighting was nice and the demo opened with some really cool water effects….it poured rain and water flowed from gutters etc. It looks good, and is certainly not let down by visuals. Setting Having read the developers website the story goes as follows. You play as one of two guys who have just invented a “Time suit”. The trouble starts when your partner in this venture grabs the working time suit and jumps off into “time”. You fix up your time suit and follow him forward in time. The game starts here in the future, with your former friend by now a dictator (having used h

EA SPORTS NHL 2008
2007-10-15 16:30:47
EA have just missed the goal with this one but it is salvageable! I don’t normally gripe about icehockey games that are out on the market because I love the sport so much and I think that EA Sports do a good job, most of the time. I’ve been buying the EA sports hockey games for the last ten years and they have gone from strength to strength. The latest instalment is NHL08 which was religiously released recently like it’s predecessors. As like all the previous titles this is no different when it comes to graphics and immersion. With each title they get a bit closer to the gritty realism of the sport. This post however will not be highlighting the few faults in gameplay, I’m actually quite happy with the game itself, my main gripe is the interface which has fallen short on nearly every title since I first bought the game in 1998. The interface is aesthetically pleasing, layout is ok although EA have always made a small menu like 800X600 res, it’s cramped an

Crysis Demo Released, lush tropical island to destroy
2007-10-29 08:52:33
Plot: I think at this stage we are all well aware of the Plot of Crysis . This game has had an enormous amount of media hype, which is reflected by the huge amount of video game play footage that has been released to date. Suffice to say at this stage 99% of gamers are well aware of the story behind Crysis….but for those of you who are not….read on. Island in the middle of the Pacific. Alien craft crashes on the Island. North Koreans get to the Island first and seal it off. Americans send in elite Nano Suit clad Delta Force Operators to investigate!!! The demo deals with this initial insertion of you and your fellow delta force players by HALO (no not the game of the same name, High Altitude Low Opening) parachute jump. The cut scene rendered in the Cry Engine2 is amazing. The characters look far better than anything I have seen to date. You leap from a transport plane and for the first time you are given control. As you speed towards the ground you deploy your parachute

PORTAL : Half life’s mod which has become a whole separate entity
2007-11-04 13:10:49
It’s been known since Valve announced the release of Half Life Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2 that a new type of game “Portal” would make it’s presence known. I got the orange box only the other day and I am amazed at what they have done. Plot Aperature Science is the name of a company which throughout the course of the game you see has direct links to Black Mesa. You are a test subject which wakes up in a sealed laboratory and asked to conduct tests under the scrutiny of Aperature Science technicians. A monotonous voice tells you what to do and provides limited reassurance but also is quick to point out that damage to life can occur if the correct procedures are not followed. Lovely! The atmosphere is very clinical, sterile and cold. After a brief introduction to the magic of “the portal” you get your shaking hands on ‘the device’ that has turned our game world askew. And now for the next 19 chapters you get to unlearn what you think you know and re learn the laws of p

Opposing Fronts, COH, Company of Heroes add on pack
2007-11-14 06:01:02
Opposing Fronts Review Having downloaded from Steam and had a few technical frights with the horrid “game is currently unavailable”error, I was very excited about playing the follow up to the best game of 2006. Like Dawn of War (DOW - another Relic title), it seemed very hard to improve on a formula that worked so well. Company of Heroes (COH) had incredible involvement for an RTS, and very re-playable. Even some of the Skirmish maps warranted a second look. Most RTSs only require you to build a large force and march forward, even in the case of the squad based DOW. However, COH had incredible moments, like a fire fight between houses where your MG teams are dug in, or the sound of a tank approaching your horridly exposed AT gun. Even laying out barbed wire to keep pesky infantry at bay was fun. So how could Relic follow up on their magnum opus? Well they could get DOW winter assault out and take a good look. Not a stand alone game, but featured a new army, patches and short campai

Crysis wood physics bug At the moment i’m playing my way through the full game, and im happy to report I have not found any physics bugs like this in the final release of the game. So far I have only seen a gun get stuck in a wall and make a really loud crashing noise?!? This video was recorded using fraps and shows a crazzy piece of wood in the pre-release! Have a look below:

Crysis Review, PC Gaming has a new poster boy
2007-11-22 06:07:52
Well the most hyped game of all time has come and gone in a few short days!!! Crysis , the proud creation of German Developers Crytek had promised to “Bring PC Gaming Home”. Flaunting “next-gen” graphics and an action packed story line….is this the PC game to rub in the faces of the console masses…..well the short answer is yes!! I have no doubt we will see Crysis on the consoles….but it just wont be the same Plot At this stage here I think if you were living on Mars you would probably know the plot for Crysis. You play through the game as the super hard “Nomad”, clad in a high tech Nano Suit. You are sent as along with some other Delta Force operators to a remote tropical island in the pacific to investigate an alien crash site. The problems for Nomad start very early, with the Island being completely overrun by the North Korean Army. The situation quickly develops into all out warfare with the Koreans…..before turning v

Never Winter Nights II – Mask of the Betrayer Blog Review
2007-11-29 03:52:34
NWN was a must for any fans of the RPG genre, the successor to the superb Baldur’s gate series and long forgotten, eye of the beholder classics. Full 3D view and slick interaction justifiably made it the flagship for next generation RPGs. NWN II was initially staggeringly in its depth of character development, items, monsters and looked very good, performing well with even a small army on screen. Its fatal flaw, which NWN did not suffer from, was the number of bugs. The game seemed overly complex, with simple cut scenes causing your game to crash and resulting in the campaign having to be re-started. In fact, there was warning on the loading screen telling you to save your game as often as possible. These bugs put a lot of players off what was ultimately a good game, if a little stretched. The add-on pack is just that, new levels, monsters, classes, items and effects. It’s the usual price for a non-independent game and is designed to allow you to import your NWN II character. Curio

Ass-assins Creed Review
2007-12-05 19:25:05
Its finally arrived, after months and months of drooling over screenshots, gameplay vids and developer interviews Assassin’s Creed hits Xbox 360 and PS3 with the PC version to come early 08. But was it really worth the wait? Simply put, NO!. How can a developer take such a beautiful engine, intriging story and fabulous combat system and screw it up you ask. Well somehow Ubisoft Montreal have done just that and the one word that negates all their hard work is monotony. Assassin’s Creed previewed back at E3 2006 and was tipped as being one of the killer aps of 2007. I for one was on the band wagon the moment i saw our anti-hero Altair force his way through a crowded street and sink his hidden blade into his mark. But what you soon realize is that the trailer is pretty much the game. Practically ever single mission in the game is just a rehash of the mission before but in a slighty different city. This to me is just another sign of uncreative game design in a GFX fueled market

Travian Plus, have you any gold, buying the end game
2007-12-18 09:17:43
Having “battled” through a Travian sever I am well aware of just how competitive it can get as the game draws to a close (The End Game). I saw cheating on a grand scale. Players with multiple accounts. The GF Meta alliance even went as far as to hack into a forum and obtain a username and password. They then used this password to login in to our World Wonder account, sending all our troops home and hitting it with a coordinated attack……I know I know…..sub-human scum. Luckily for us the admins intervened, and the cheating GF swine's did not succeed. I might point out that GF (Gamma Force) did win the server. However it was not through force of strength or conviction….it's because they are called “Gamma Force” and obviously has super gamma mega powers…..Gamma Force…I mean really?…..spotty teenage gits The introduction of “Gold” in Travian in my opinion has the potential to spoil the balance of the

Mass Effect - Game of the Year
2007-12-09 18:30:41
If your in anyway into your console RPG’s, you’ed of realized as i have that up to now the Xbox 360 really hasn’t unleashed many jems in the genre. Sure we had Oblivion but outside that the rest were sub-par at best. Blue Dragon, Enchanted Arms, Eternal Sonata, these games all tried to set the bar for future action RPG’s on the 360 and failed misrably. Our last glimmering hope for 2007 was a big budget title by renowned RPG makers Bioware. Given Bioware’s long running history with superb titles in the genre, most were expecting a solid title from its first dip into the next-gen console market. But in truth we got so much more. Mass Effect is in a word ’spectacular’. Though could you predict anything less from the creators of possibly the greatest console RPG of all time, Knights of the Old Republic? Graphics - 10 Does it usurp Gears of War’s throne as prettist game on the 360. Well no, but its not far off. Being its an RPG title, ME
