Eco friendly, Fair trade Certifed Jewelry by GreenKarat
2007-09-13 20:43:07
An organization named Green Karat certifies gold as green or eco friendly. The make sure that gold was mined not under war, thru fair labor, and do as less harm to the environment as possible. They do this by retraining miners into non-mining livelihoods, advocating for the recycling of precious metals. Most of it is sitting in bank vaults anyways! Gold mining is faulted with deforestation, soil erosion into streams. The industry uses chemicals, especially mercury to separate gold from rock. Its harms both its workers and the surrounding ecosystem as well. They also oppose diamond mining because of the unconscionable human and ecological sacrifice as seen in the hit film “Blood Diamond” which stars Leonardo DiCaprio. As that movie showed the Diamond industry has financed the activities of various rebel groups who have practically enslaved, tortured, killed, and maimed miner workers, and their communities. Fully Electric SUV Truck by Phoenix Motor Cars
2007-08-25 17:23:02
Did you know that a fully electric SUV is about to come out. The launch of the new vehicles just got delayed until 2008 because of the certification process. The company, Phoenix Motor cars, already has 500 on order from clients. Pacific Gas and Electric is one customer and so are many government municipalities. These organizations buy large fleets of cars and often don’t go long distances. Thus, the 100 mile range is not a problem with compared to regular consumers. The cars run for 130 miles on a single charge and can hit 100 miles per hour. The key is the battery which can be charged quickly. 10 Minute of recharge to 95% capacity!! Vehicle assembly in Ontario, Canada. $3 for a total recharge on your power bill! Power everything. ZERO emmssions! It will cost you 45K though. Estimated 2008 sales production is 500 vehicles. In 2009 6000 vehicles when the regular consumer will have some access. All you Lexus SUV buyers do something good for the environment! Via Cnet. Share This

Iceland to have all fossil free cars
2007-09-21 12:39:46
Iceland will have the greenest transport of any country soon. They are experimenting with having cars and buses using hydrogen. Already, the country’s electricity and heating comes from hydroelectric and geothermal springs that are in abundance in Iceland. But for cars they have to transport overseas and the result is $8 a gallon. So Iceland will invest heavily in hydrogen technologies. Hydrogen is produced with water and electricity and Iceland has much of both. Car companies such as General Motors, Toyota, and Daimler Chrysler, are using the island-nation as a testing ground. Pictured here is the Mercedes Benz A-class F-cell. It is an electric car powered by a fuel cell which generates electricity by converting hydrogen and oxygen into water. Right now there are a few buses in the capital Reykjavik, but by 2010 the people of Iceland will be able to purchase one. Within a year local energy company employees and a Hertz will get to drive them. Maybe you can go to Iceland as tourist a

The Green Book – The Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet, One Simple Step at a Times is guide to over 400 small things you can do in your lifestyle that will make positive effects on the Environment. We are the bad guys this book rightly points out. Americans waste twice much water and energy as other global citizen. We make 4.5 pounds of trash everyday per person. This at a time when global resources are becoming scarcer as populations rise. Something’s got to give. We can be the change if we simply change our habits. There are many practical easy simple solutions in this book without sounding too preachy. Use cloth shopping bags, you don’t need all those ATM receipts, turn of the tap water while you brush, unplug devices when charged, use less paper napkins, rid yourself of junk mail, no more plastic utensils, user refill con

Honda Puyo hydrogen fuel cell 4 seater
2007-10-23 07:49:09
This concept car by Honda will be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor show by the end of the month. Its a cute one isn’t it? Looks like a perfect commuting vehicle. Its got no corners and has a lot of transparent materials. It will include and instrument panel monitor, a joystick steering wheel, and fluid level displays… ITs eco friendly as it relies on hydrogen fuel cell technology. The only problem is developing hydrogen as it still requires fossil technology to create unless you want to create nuclear plants. Then you have to put it in the car as a compressed gas and that could be dangerous. I still love the invisible headlights, that clear canopy which I hope comes tinted, and the fact that it has no side mirrors… Via Inhabitat Share This
