Finals time.
2007-09-17 07:06:01
The Swans are out of the finals… We really never looked like making it this year. So, in the AFL I think I’m going for a Geelong to win in Cats Vs Port Grand Final. In the NRL I’m going for a Cowboys Vs Eels Grand Final. In other news, my old Sydney AFL team the St. George Crows lost to the North Shore Bombers in the 1st grade Sydney AFL grand final. That’s the 3rd win for the Bombers in 4 years…. The Crows haven’t won a 1st Grade premiership since 1993 even though we’ve made the GF about a dozen times… depressing.

Renovation Rescue…
2007-09-12 22:17:27
OK, so it’s been a heck of a week&hellip ; We’re meant to be getting a new kitchen put in, so we spent all of Wednesday ripping out the old one and making a lovely pile on the front lawn. [pictures to follow - can’t find the cable for the camera] I thought that we were going to be able to take the ex-kitchen to the tip on Wednesday evening, so that it wouldn’t inconvenience the neighbours (we live in a block of 4 flats). One thing led to another, and the ex-kitchen was going to stay where it was until after we’d finished fitting the new one on Thursday… so far so good-ish. Thursday morning I waited around for the new kitchen to arrive (due at 10am), but at 11am I got sick of waiting and headed to work (the office is only 5 minutes drive away), and figured that they could deliver it without me there (Vanessa was home). Got a phone call saying that someone (not allowed to mention names, so as to protect the guilty) had fallen off his motorbike and due

Free CD’s…. kinda…
2007-09-12 01:12:44
We recently changed our credit card to one with a lower interest rate and that, (although in the process we got a credit card from another bank and an extra $2000 credit, but that’s a different story) in doing so we were going to lose the Award Points we had saved up, so we thought we better redeem what little we had. So after looking through the catalogue the best thing we could see for the amount of points we had was a $50 Sanity voucher, so we ordered it, and it turned up like a week later which was surprising. So we headed off to shop, and of course went straight for the $10 table to buy a bunch of cd’s we’ve always wanted but never got around to buying, or didn’t have the money at the time. There’s some Gold on these tables usually, not so much this day, although I did get something I have wanted for a long time&hellip ; The Offspring! It was a best of album so I now have a bunch of great songs to reminisce to… We also picked up a copy

Banana bread
2007-09-06 19:53:09
Did some baking yesterday. Check out this banana bread, oooh yeah! It smells and tastes as good as it looks! This is the first banan bread I’ve eaten since a very bad experience at the Last Drop Cafe in Dulwich Hill during the great banana shortage of 2006… My faith has been restored in the good ‘ol banana bread. It’s particularly good toasted under the grill, with a generous spread of butter, and cup of coffee… mmmmmm. Takes about 15 minutes of prep and 55 minutes to cook. You need: Cake Tin (about 20cm x 8cm x 5cm or something…) Self Raising flour x 1 3/4 cups Brown sugar x 3/4 cup Walnuts x 1 cup (crush them up in the packet) Butter x 113 grams (melted in the microwave for about 40 sec. on high) Eggs x 2 or 3 (lightly beaten) Salt x 1/4 teaspoon Vanilla extract x 1 teaspoon And 3 or 4 mashed bananas (preferably old brown bananas). Preheat oven to 180 celsius. Grease your cake tin with some butter. Mix the flour, sugar, salt, and nuts togeth

Husband of the Year
2007-09-05 07:09:08
I just finished scrubbing the bathroom, I figure that’s a good 10 points towards being husband of the year!! Part the way through the job I needed to wee, stay with me, there’s a reason I tell you this… A great philosopher by the name of Martin Oldfield once explained to me that he liked to do things while he needed to wee, he wouldn’t go to the bathroom but just hold on. He did this because of how quickly he found he worked because the sooner he finished the sooner he could go! Therefore I held on, and got the job done in half the time.

Talladega Nights
2007-09-04 20:36:35
Got this out on video last week and stayed up late and watched it by my self… well at least for half of it… Fi’s not a real big Will Ferrel fan. I just have to say that this is quite a retarded film (more rediculous than Anchorman) but I laughed my head off. It was great. It’s worth just watching for the “Grace” scene which is about 20 minutes into the movie. Very funny.

I just finished writing an assignment, because I’m such a slacker that I couldn’t get it finished until 15 minutes before it’s due. In honour of that, I would like to dedicate this song to all my fellow time wasters:

5in5 Challenge Update
2007-08-30 23:01:26
So it’s been a week since I mentioned the challenge to lose 5kgs in 5 weeks, and due to a good result in the first week you a now reading a blog about it.  Not much to say, but I’m on track. Lost 1.7kgs! The figures won’t be this high each week, and I expect to get sick at about week 3 and have to take it easy for a while, then just scrape home at the end.

blog draught
2007-09-27 18:53:29
For about 3-4 months I did the “1 blog a week” thing and in the last month I’ve barely written a thing. What’s worse is that I can’t think of anything vaguely interesting to write. I don’t even have a youtube to post, which we all know too well is the fall back for every blogger… Wht’s most upsetting is that blogging makes you realise how truly boring your life can become… I no longer can live in ignorance of the fact that some weeks all I do is work, sleep, eat, and poo… Though come to think of it, I do have some interesting stories from those topics, mmmm… Wait, Wait! I think I hear the rains are comin! Yep. Some things did happen this week. Owe Owe, I feel a blog comin on!

Is My Dignity Worth More Than $2
2007-09-24 20:51:57
So here’s a dilemma I face on pretty much a daily basis, although today it was obvious. I work in the same centre as Coles Narromine and they have one of those trolley systems where if you want one you put $1 or $2 coin in the slot and disconnect it from the the one in front. Which I think is an awesome system as all the kids from around Narromine will bring back stray trolleys so that they can get the money out of them. Here’s the problem I face: Today there was a trolley no more than 15 metres from the front door of Coles and therefore about 17 metres from the trolley return bay. Now this trolley clearly had a $2 coin in the slot. Should I have pushed it back and redeemed the said $2, or will I then just be seen in the same light as the young teens who do such a thing? Simply you could just say push it back and grab the $2, not a lot of money, but I could then get an Ice Cold Coke from the vending machine and have change to spare.  If it was a one off then maybe this wou

Rogers, and others…
2007-09-22 08:45:56
I read an article on Tim Rogers today, and it reminded me of how frustrated I get with life sometimes&hellip ; The most talented people can often be the most unstable, and in the end, so many people end up in such horrid situations that it all just starts to feel hopeless. I’m sure he would think I was being foolish, and I don’t even know if he’d appreciate the sentiment, but I’m going to be praying for Tim as often as I remember to… I think he’s as deserving of God’s grace as the next person.

Worked From Home Today
2007-09-21 01:11:16
Not much else to say about that… Except maybe these things: 1) It’s AMAZING how much more I find I get done when working from home. I don’t know if it is the lack of interruptions, or maybe the feeling that you need to justify yourself and show that you weren’t just slacking off so you work your bum off so that you have a decent amount to show for your day. 2) You get to work from the comfort of your bed!! I love that, a perfect example of this was not today, but last time I worked from home it was a very cold day and the in-laws were ripping up our back decking so that they could lay a new one. I spent most the day under the doona doing my work, anyway there was this one time where I had decided to go to the kitchen to get myself a drink, I must have been working hard. As I walked through the house I was thinking to myself how cold it was, then I came to the glass doors which lead out onto the deck and looked out to see my mother-in-law trying to remove the ol

Gym Membership
2007-09-20 06:41:12
So heard about another bargain that I couldn’t pass up. The gym at Dubbo RSL has a special on this month, 6 weeks membership for $60. Thought this was a good opportunity to give it another shot, so tomorrow morning and hopefully each weekday morning my alarm will beset for just after 6ish at which point I’ll head to the gym and do gym stuff!! Another good thing is that I can keep telling myself that it is only for 6 weeks!!

Seu Jorge: The Life Aquatic soundtrack
2007-10-03 02:21:18
Bought this soundtrack last night at Fish Records in Newtown and I love it. You can’t deny the quirkyness of this album, who would think to cover David Bowie songs in Portugese with acoustic guitar?? I loved the movie, and this soundtrack is equally fantastic. Jorge’s voice is awesome, and mixed with the sound of his guitar playing is like chocolate for your ears, mmmm….

Australian Idioms
2007-10-03 02:16:01
Couldn’t help but feel a great sense of joy today upon using the Australian ism “the duck’s nuts” to describe how good something was - i think i was thinking of a particular motorbike… Anyway, it’s a great term. Got me wondering why the duck’s nuts are so cool…?

I’m not very bright sometimes…
2007-10-14 08:40:28
I’ve really managed to get poor-time-use down to an artform lately. I spend hours trawling through wikipedia after I venture warily onto the site to find out some basically useless information about a footballer or something, before I’m dragged into the vortex of clicking on articles about battleships, theological principles, and video games. Sometimes I have so many tabs open in my browser that I’m left squinting around trying to find the original item that I actually wanted to know about, and then I manage to convince myself that reading through all of those useless articles was some sort of acheivement, so I reward myself with another trip to the kitchen to make a cup of tea or something. Damn it, I just want to finish my essays (almost there, so close I can smell it&hellip ; or at least I can smell something). I’ve written more words in dumb emails today than I needed for my assignment, but for some reason they’ve all been so much easier to write. My

Just do it already…
2007-10-11 20:04:14
I’m looking out of my window, and it looks like it’s about to rain, but it hasn’t yet. For some reason it’s annoying me, like when you’re about to sneeze, but it doesn’t come, so you just stand there looking (and feeling) ridiculous with your nose up in the air and your eyes half closed. Of course, what I should be doing is writing two short essays.  I might go and make a quick cup of tea.

My next vehicle…
2007-10-10 02:45:01
The lads from Top Gear have done Toyota a massive marketing favour, by attempting to destroy an ‘unbreakable’ Hilux. Whatever their motives, it worked on me, and my desire for one of these utes has skyrocketed. I love the idea of just slinging my stuff into the tray and driving off for a weekend on the coast or something. I’m sure it’s highly impractical, and I could come up with a dozen reasons with it’s ridiculous, but that’s what I’m like sometimes. Do you think I could get away with trading in the Astra? (I couldn’t embed the video, so a link will have to suffice)

…why, oh why, oh why…
2007-10-07 20:46:32
&hellip ; is it that whenever I have to do something, I find myself procrastinating furiously, and making myself incredibly stressed in the process? I’m meant to be writing a study for tonight, and also researching / writing an assignment for college, but instead I’m writing emails, ’surfing the interweb’ (hardcore guy that I am), and thinking about anything but the things I should be thinking about. OK, I’m going to the post office (my new Ed Vedder record + t-shirt are finally here), then to the mall to get a charger for my new phone, and then I’ll come back and do some serious work…  Unless I can figure out something else to do. [edit] The Ed  Vedder record still hasn’t arrived (thank you Pearl Jam website, thank you - I’m really glad I pre-ordered now), but instead I found my X-Box waiting for me at the post office. I was skeptical as  to whether they would have actually repaired it, but I tried a few games and it seems  t

Look what my church did!
2007-10-18 23:36:06
Petersham Evening Church (who run a evening service in our church building at Petersham funily enough…) are a creative bunch of people. They come up with all sorts of wacky ideas… So when they came up with the idea of making a 3 massive banners to go up around our church to coincide with the new poster they put out for the month of October, my small minded thinking made me think this probably not going to work… and if it had been left up to my decision it probably wouldn’t have happened. But God bless the creative open mindedness of the FEVA/PEC crew! It happened and it looks great!  Just to give you an idea of what we’re talking about here… The big Ballot paper is about 3.5 x 5 metres, and hangs about 8m up from the ground. The big banner on the roof is about 30 x 3 metres. The Banner out the front is about 20 x 1.5 metres. And there is also a set of polling booths that were made and set up on our lawn. It was a big effort to get it all up. The
