Turducken
2007-12-05 05:09:42
Word on the street is that there might be a Turducken dinner party this weekend. The hosts mum was on the hunt for the duck, whilst the host himself was trying to source a Turkey, apparently not the easiest bird to get a hold of in Dubbo. But it turns out that the season is almost perfect and the Dubbo Turkey population will be on the increase as a little something called Christmas gets closer. ALLLL-RIGHT! Will keep you posted…

Twelve
2007-12-05 05:05:41
So I’m loving the random setting on my iPod (oh, did I mention my impulse buy following YY Weekend?!) I heard a song from the Twelve Compilation, and Nat asked something like what is this garbage… But it felt good, it may not have been the best song on the album, or even one I like heaps, but the reminiscing was gold… I look forward to what will be dished up in the future!!

Public Transport
2007-12-04 01:53:45
I caught the train from Lewisham to the city this morning in peak hour - 8:00am… I don’t think I’ve really done that before… ever. When I caught the train for wark as a tradesman, it was always at 6:00am, which is hardly peak hour. I’m not sure if it was a good experience or not… on the upside, it was air conditioned, and it was good to see so many people using public transport. But on the downside, we were crammed in like sardines… I’m not sure if the experience has me feeling more violated from the invasion of personal space, or left me with greater sense of community and public bonding… Either way, I don’t think I’ll be longing for the experience again anytime soon, if ever.

What happens on ‘YY Weekend’, stays on ‘YY Weekend’…
2007-12-02 19:45:11
&hellip ;mainly because although I took the camera, there wasn’t much to photograph. The weather was a bit wet for most of the weekend, so a lot of our time was spent indoors in the loungeroom (or at McDonald’s). Much FIFA was played, much iPod listened to, and much (?) card games were played. We ate, drank, and relaxed, and as usual, I’ve come home from a holiday needing to sleep in and spend some time relaxing afterwards (I’m such a wuss). The house was fantastic (although a bit leaky in such a heavy downpour), and we were very fortunate to have access to it. We sampled the Big Macs of various suburbs across the Central Coast, and managed to look / sound / feel like idiots in various other social settings. Thanks especially to the corner shop lady who charged us about $8 for a loaf of bread and 2 litres of milk. Chris - can we start a digital countdown to next year’s event now?

The Smiths
2007-12-18 22:13:36
I always like to think that I’m the one who influences my brother’s taste in everything, because, you know I’m older and everything, and the older brother is always cooler… However, thanks to James I’ve now become a masive Smiths (and Morrisey) fan. It all started with James playing me some songs and showing me Morrisey live in concert on a DVD he has, and next thing I’m buying songs off iTunes, and then as I’m walking through Newtown the other day there was heaps of CDs on sale at SO Music for $10.00 (which is the maximum I like to pay for CDs these days, and iTunes can’t beat that!), low and behold there was a couple of Smiths CDs on the table and so I got “The Queen is Dead” album and have been listening to it non stop ever since… I also got “They might be giants - A user’s guide”, “The best of the cure”, “Midnight Oil - greatest hits”, and “Gnarles Barkley - St. Elesw

iTunes
2007-12-18 04:35:28
So I bought my first few songs on iTunes the other day… My goodness it would be SO easy to spend a lot of money! Then I realised that once you enter your password you can continue downloading songs and almost forget that you’re paying for them, and the funny thing is you could even get rid of the warning letting you know that you’re paying for them, not a chance I will do that!

The Fuzz
2007-12-13 17:10:42
The other day I had a little excitement, a first for myself, I was pulled over by the police! He followed me for a little bit and when I turned the corner he lit up his colourful lights, he asked to see my license, breathalised me and then went on his way. So not much excitement in the end, but it was a first for me, and I’d always wondered how I’d feel if they pulled me over… yeah not that bad or nervous, I suppose I knew I hadn’t done anything wrong, except for that time a few years back when I was running illegal Mexican immigrants over the US border, but surely that news hasn’t filtered back to Dubbo yet?! (there goes any chance I had of getting into the US, one little joke on our blog, the FBI see everything don’t you know!)

Good Recovery
2007-12-12 22:42:18
My ipod battery started to go on the fritz about 2 weeks ago, the thing just wouldn’t hold charge… But in an amazing turn around the pod has fought back from the fritz and is podding along just nicely now, holds charge and everything! What’s the deal? Apple makes  pods that can recover in time just like people? Can this be? I was all set to rip mine open and have ago at a home transplant, but I’ll have to save that for another day… In other news… Chris has hemorrhoids… and they’re big, round, red, and juicy.

I don’t need to know if you’ve had them! I don’t need to know if your relatives have ever had them cut off! So don’t tell me!

Although it doesn’t happen very often, I like to rejoice when my life parallels that of The Sopranos, so I was very pleased when I realised this morning that I now have a friend called Artie who owns an Italian (pizza) restaurant. Please note that I am not suggesting that our Artie is anything like Artie Bucco. I just liked the symmetry.

Our rabbit
2007-12-09 07:04:29
Our rabbit chewed through our computer keyboard cable this morning. i’ve had the keyboard since I bought the PC, but it’s OK… I replaced the keyboard with a new one I bought from reverse garbage for $2.00! What a bargain. I love that place.

MacGyver
2007-12-21 17:27:16
So I just popped over to my parents place for a short while and noticed that they have season 4 of MacGyver on DVD! I think I remember loving the show as a kid, so tossed up whether I should watch it or not cause old TV show usually are no where as good as you remember them. I took a gamble and put it on, during the opening credits I was getting pretty excited at what was ahead… I’m about 5 mins in now and am not so sure, but still positive as I know sooner or later the action will start, he’ll pull out his swiss army knife and will save everyone with a table spoon, four toothpicks and and the filament out of a light globe. Did I mention this one guest stars Teri Hatcher!

Tired.
2007-12-20 04:12:51
The last few weeks have been very tiring. Every day I’ve arrived at home feeling more exhausted than the day before, and have struggled to stay awake more than a few minutes after stumbling through the door. This evening has been much the same, so I ordered pizza (The Swiss Wood Fire place at Caringbah - my favourite pizzas for miles around) and cracked a beer while I watched Jamie Oliver do his thing on the telly. MJ dropped in and we ate together, before he stumbled home and I decided to blog before bed (which has a wonderful ‘ring’ to it, in my opinion). It’s almost the end of the year, it’s almost time to relax… YAY!

2007 is Finished
2007-12-20 03:38:17
Well, in terms of work I have finished!! Was hoping to get an away a little early from work tomorrow, but instead my boss gave me a couple of hours of today, and all of tomorrow! Awesome! I’m on holidays!

I was never much for being a reader as a child. In the MS readathon, my friends had often read 600 books by the end of the month, and I had just realised that I was more captivated by the cover of my books than the words inside… But in 1991 I found a book and [...]

Hi. My name’s Michael and I’m a social drinker…
2008-03-07 05:03:53
So we went for Fi’s first antenatal checkup today (we’re 13 weeks now woohoo!). As part of the initial checkup procedure, there was a point where I had to leave the room so the Doc could ask Fi some personal questions about our relationship etc… This is a really good system in our hospitals. It gives [...]

Society
2008-03-06 06:55:11
Someone’s made a video to go with a song that Ed Vedder wrote for the film ‘Into the Wild’. They’ve made a bit of tenuous link between their politics and the song, but it basically fits.

Little thieves!
2008-03-05 20:01:16
Had one of those great days yesterday… Fi left her mobile phone in the car overnight. We remembered it before going to bed but couldn’t be bothered walking down stairs to get it, and as we tried to motivate ourselves to go get it we joked “we’ll probably get broken into tonight.” “hmmmm yeah… you can [...]

Take a good look at this picture. What do you see? This is not a a psyche test. You’re not supposed to see an apparition of Mary, or the face of Jesus and the sacred heart. It’s concrete. Plain ol’ fashioned concrete. There is nothing special about this particular concrete surface. It’s not from anywhere famous. It’s [...]

Workin’ for the man…
2008-02-27 04:54:29
This evening I attended a training session for potential Police Youth Support People at the local PCYC. Basically I’ll be on call if a young or ‘vulnerable’ person is arrested, and their parent or guardian isn’t available to sit in on their police interview, to make sure that the police are following the correct procedures, [...]

U.S. Shooting
2008-02-17 19:56:40
Another US school shooting masacre… Maybe it will start to become clear to them that: “Guns don’t kill people… People who can buy guns at Kmart kill people…” Surely they’ve worked out that their “relaxed” standard of gun laws isn’t really helping their citizens any… COMING TO A U.S. PAPER NEAR YOU: ‘World news’, ‘Finance news’, ‘Sport news’, and… [...]

A challenge to the right wing and the atheist
2008-03-17 05:03:42
I read this article in the SMH on saturday. A good article with some clear logic and an interesting challenge to right wing complainers and the anti-religious. You can find the original article here but I’ve pasted the article by Lisa Pryor below just in case the link fails.

World’s best knock knock Joke

Without understating it in anyway… I have come up with the world’s best knock knock jokes. By posting them here on the net, I just want to legitimate my claim to these jokes so that when you hear them from other people (as they do the rounds), you can say “I know the guy who made [...]
