iced coffee
2007-10-17 01:04:10
I judge a cafe by it’s iced coffee. I mean, atmosphere, service, food quality is all important but the real test is the iced coffee… You make a good iced coffee Ill be coming back for more. What I mean by good is good strong coffee flavour (real coffee not syrup, yuk!), and a cold tempreture, I think that’s not too much to ask, yet so many cafes pour luke warm milk into a glass with some whipped cream and call it iced coffee - $4.50… I don’t think so. Often at college I crave an iced coffee. There are some cafes kinda near by (like 5 minute drive) but I ride a motor bike and don’t have any cup holders… so I have managed to create the perfect iced coffee with what’s available to me at college, and here it is (works at home too): Get a tall glass and add about 2 teaspoons of instant (you know blend 43 or something - not industrial roast). Add half a teaspoon of sugar. Pour in a small amount of boiling water (like 1/10 of the glass size).

More Japanese ingenuity
2007-10-23 02:38:58
Because they actually had some street crime in their country for the first time in living memory, the Japanese panicked, and this is what one of them came up with:    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/20/world/asia/20japan.html?ex=1350532800&en=407754645455666b&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss I love that lateral thinking…

Got the sick!
2007-10-19 21:41:33
I’ve had the sick for about 2 days now. Not that fun, although I have caught up on so much sleep! And I love the way you don’t have to feel like I have to be doing anything, which is a nice rest. So a couple of highlights: 1) I’m not one to throw up all that often, and I was amazed! I couldn’t believe the flow rate you can get, after an intial couple of soft throws I did these 2 that were just outstanding. It’s just like on the cartooons and in the movies. You get this stream happening which is as wide as your mouth and I reckon I could have filled a 500ml glass in a second. I was definately keeping my eyes open for those. I don’t know if you’re getting me here, but it’s just like turning a fire hydrant on and watching the pressure of the water burst forth. 2) I lost 2kgs in 2 days! Normally not a great thing, but in the present climate of me trying to lose weight… I’ll take it.

The human roller skate
2007-10-24 20:47:45
Check out this guy! What’s even more impressive is that he does this in traffic! He even overtakes a motorbike! That would have seriously freaked out the bike rider… glumbert - Rollersuit in the Swiss Alps

Rain!
2007-10-24 20:22:01
It’s finally raining a little out here!! I’ve been sitting in my office watching people walk by, I haven’t seen one person run to get out of it, everyone’s walking as if were a sunny day. Most people aren’t wearing any protection against the rain and some are even carrying umbrella’s, but none have them up! I think everyone’s just happy to see it!

Not much happening at the moment that’s all that blog worthy, actually as I write this there may be one or two things, you be the judge&hellip ; 1) Caleb had his first birthday on 25th of October, we bought him a little bike thing, and a bible, well we haven’t purchased the bible yet, mum’s buying it and bringing it out. It’s meant to be a really good picture bible type thing. But let’s face it, he has no idea it’s his birthday and no idea about the fact that we’re giving him presents, so we didn’t nuts! 2) My parents, and Nan, and Julie, and Colin are coming out this weekend, we’re going to do a family, including Nat’s family, birthday party for Caleb on Saturday, once again no big deal as he’ll have no idea of what it’s all about. 3) I’ve finally launched the new www.storage.com.au website, I’m actually quite happy with the result, there’s a few little tweaks I want to make but in general I thi

Le tour de inner west
2007-11-05 16:17:53
I’ve been doing an early morning ride with some guys from church the for the last year or so, but the last 2 weeks we’ve gone for our 6:30 am ride twice a week (2 days in a row even!) and I’m feeling better for it. We always stop in Leichhardt at a cafe for a coffee and some toast at the end of the ride for a chat (and a reward) which always makes the early morning start worth it. I had a big Mac for dinner on Sunday night so I’ve had to work extra hard on the bike this week and push that little bit harder, hopefully I’ve worked off the 2 all beef paddies, special sauce, and cheese, and only the lettuce is left… In other news: I made another banana bread! The recipe still proves to faithfully serve an awesome banana bread every time!

Study, Study, Study… kind of…
2007-11-05 16:11:33
I’m off to Moore college library this morning to try and do some study for exams next week without the distraction of internet, email, TV, eating, cleaning, sleeping, or even staring at the tiles on the bathroom floor&hellip ; Procrastination give life or death importance to even the most ordinary of things. The fact that I’m even taking time to bog about this is a testament to how much I’m struggling with studying at the moment. It feels a little bit like when we had stuvac for the HSC except that I actually care about how I do in these exams… Moore’s library is a nice little find. Baz introduced me to the place a couple of months ago. It’s got books galore, and you don’t even have to be a student to go there and use their stuff, well I think that’s the case… you can’t borrow stuff if you’re not a student but at least you can sit in there and use it… Ah well… guess I better get a move on (sigh)&helli

History Boys
2007-11-04 22:04:26
Fi and I hired out and watched History Boys from the DVD store last night. We’d been wanting to see it for some time and had heard good reviews, it looked like it might be a bit like a Dead Poets Society kinda movie, but… we were wrong… As a person who like history, there were points of this movie I liked, for example, I found it had an insightful take on what history is, how it is recorded, and how it can (should?) be handled - some of what they said about peotry reminded me of the Psalms and how they continually speak to God’s people struggling to live God’s way in a world of rebellion - i liked that… However, what is most disturbing about the film is that it more or less trivialises inappropriate sexual behaviour between adults and minors/teachers and students! This was a very unexpected theme of the movie! A homosexual teacher (and main character) tries to rationalise fondling his students balls as kind of preparation for life and helpful tea

Keating the musical
2007-11-10 02:05:19
Last night Fi, James, Nathan & Laura, and myself went to see Keating the musical for James’ 25th birthday present, and it was a cracker!! I’m not one one for musicals but this was fantastic! It was probably made even better because James could fill me in on all the little Keating puns that I otherwise wouldn’t have got… in fact I’m sure it was. A very pleasant unexpected surprise was that the musicians in the stage band were actually part of the acting crew. So not only were they some of the most awesome musos I’ve ever seen or heard (who played every style of music from mambo to reggae to jazz, funk, and love ballad), but their involvement in the play really brought an added extravagance of flavour to the story line and the production. It wouldn’t be half the play it is without them - they were incredibly funny. I had heard great reviews of the play, and this is it’s 4th season (and sold out!). You might be saying to yourself

Pizza and xbox and PS2
2007-11-14 19:24:50
I have a teenage guys Wednesday afternoon group that meets every week at 4:30 for bible study and a bit of PS2 time. We’re creatively called G-WA:43o( pronounced Gee Waa which is a bit reminiscient of “the ocho”). Last night we kinda had an early end of year celebration to celebrate the guys in year 10 finishing their school certificate - just an excuse really… So we partied hard with a 5hr session of xbox, PS2, and pizza, and junk food. We had Halo playing on 2 linked xboxes - 4 players each battling against each other - there was the projector and a TV for the xboxes, and a 3rd TV for the PS2 so I could advance a bit further on my need for speed underground 2 game which I haven’t really played for months. We had a great night, plenty of history building, and I even improved my NFSu2 game and actually got up to 8 kills on Halo - but still got owned… Aaaaah ministry… I just love it.

Double Done
2007-11-14 19:14:35
So Pete’s done but I’m double done! Finoto le diploma of theology. I would be tempted to say that was my last exam ever, but I’m going back next year to do NT Greek half a day a week on Wednesdays, which really should be alot easier to manage than doing 4 subjects, even if I am learning a new language… I do know some greek words from school, but… I can’t repeat those here (or anywhere) so… Yasou Dikanos. I think I will continue to celebrate the finito le diploma by getting a passionfruit, and banana gelato tonight at Darling Harbour, mmmmmm…. Who’s in!?

I May Not Be The Expert on Everything.
2007-11-14 18:01:45
Sometimes I forget that I may not know everything, and that the qualified person standing next to me may just know more about a subject than me. Not a severe case of this, but I had one of those situations where someone asks a question and I went to start answering it when I had to say to myself “Hey! Shut Up, what do you think you’re doing, they’re probably directing that question to the person standing next to you who actually works in the industry related to it, and of which you really know not much at all!!” I think I caught myself before I got a full word out and just had to act like I was going to interrupt with another conversation or something… But enough about me, let me deflect this post from myself onto someone else… This situation reminded me of something that happened at Narwee High, it was during that PD and Health stuff we did in year 11 or 12, when those gay people came to talk to us about, well, being gay. How was that for an exper

DONE
2007-11-13 20:44:22
So I’m finished my first year of study. Ever, I think. Had my final exam this morning, and I think that I should get at least 51%, so that’s what counts, eh? Just finished a quick pub lunch, and surprisingly, Warren isn’t working today, so we’re going to the beach soon. Yay!

Extreme Tractor Action
2007-11-12 21:41:05
So I was at a mates place the other day, and it all went down!! Lucky I had my camera on me… You’ll see I cut the filming short, things really started to heat up and I needed to get in there and help him out, I had to call upon all my skills, nun chuck skills, bow staff skills… etc… Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills.

Lost & Found
2007-11-12 18:11:05
So I thought this was going to turn into a major headache… Last night I looked at my hand and discovered my wedding ring was no longer there. I chose not to panic and thought that maybe it was at work as I did take it off at one stage because it was a little uncomfortable. So I got into work this morning, had a look, and found out it wasn’t here… bummer. I haven’t had it resized since I lost some weight as I’ve always been afraid of putting the weight back on, once the ‘phase’ had passed, but I did realise that it seemed to be a little looser over the last couple of days as I lost a little more somehow. So I called Nat and asked her to look in the washing machine, I put a load of sheets on last night and didn’t get a chance to hang them out. Thankfully it was there!! Major, costly, in cash and sentimentally, annoyance averted! Phew…

New Guiness Ad
2007-11-11 21:39:30
Blogging by YouTube again… lazy I know… So I almost didn’t blog about this, it’s another one of those ads that they produce to go in the ‘epic’ ad category, but this one doesn’t really have the wow factor for me. It’s a bit impressive, but I just wasn’t amazed by it, and I’m sure that’s the reaction that they’re looking for. So I’ll post it and let you decide for yourself.

Working Bee skills
2007-11-20 06:28:49
I came… I saw… I shovelled mulch… crap loads of mulch. It happens every year at college that we have a working bee, well, 2 working bees a year in fact, and each time we shovel crap loads of mulch. I mean tones! But today we also painted stuff, and watched cricket in the lounge room… not so bad. It’s good getting out in the fresh air and doing some manual labour. It reqiures little thinking, and there’s a good feeling of accomplishment and productivity when you look back and see an ocean of mulch you’ve shovelled with your own 2 blistered hands. A couple of guys in 1st year used to be chippies and have put there skills to good use building new door jams and hanging new doors on all the cabins. They’ve done a great job, and i think they rightly get a deduction in their college fees for all their hard work. The usefullness of their past trade begs the question of myself… What the hell can I do with a sprinkler fitter trade behind

Americans are strange (part 9)
2007-11-15 23:31:34
Just got sent this article: http://www.local6.com/news/14578641/detail.html  which is strange enough (”it was an angel… there was an angel there”), but then when I clicked on a related link (how to save fuel mileage), I was shocked at some of the ‘Captain Obvious’ statements made: http://www.autotrader.com/research/shared/article.jsp?article_id=22081&refpage=buyingtips&restype=used&LNX=IBSCOBRNDART051  - Clean out the fridge and cupboard rather than going out for a meal.  - Order delivery. Sure someone is using gas, but the driver will usually be delivering to multiple people thus having a more efficient trip. - Get together with friends and family at each other’s homes. This way only some, not everyone, will be traveling. - Explore More Activities at Home  Al Gore, eat your heart out…

Hot, tired.
2007-11-15 23:24:32
It’s Friday afternoon, and I’m feeling hot and tired . So as I open a cold beer, I’m going to relax with a series of You-Tube highlights of the week… First up: a young Shaolin Monk apprentice going through his daily exercise routine…   SHAOLIN KID STRETCHING - Click here for this week’s top video clips Next: Obi Wan Kenobi going car shopping (thanks to Dead Ringers)… and finally: a clip from the show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Thanks to my sources, you know who you are…

a little reward…
2007-11-15 22:55:39
It would be wrong to suggest that I completed a 2 year diploma of theology just so I could reward myself with a double movie boxset of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the dead - for starters Hot Fuzz wasn’t even out when I started my diploma, and secondly the privilege of studying God’s Word full time is reward enough! Now I have you false accusers soundly subjugated, there is nothing wrong with a little extra reward for hard *cough* studying *cough cough*; And might I add, I feel no guilt whatsoever, especially when I picked it up for the bargain price of $15.99! Woohoo!

The affordable big breakfast lives on in the inner west!
2007-11-15 22:22:28
The inner west of Sydney has many great things going for it (apart from the fact that I live and go to church there), not least of which is it’s great cafes, however… someone seems to have created the equation that with great quality must come great price. It has been sometime sice I’ve found a real bargain when it come to great food in a great cafe. The Camperdown cafe on Camperdown park has my favourite “camperdown breakfast sandwich” (which is a mouthful to say and eat); Cinqe cafe in Newtown has the best openning hours, chai tea, and nice atmosphere; Deus cafe has got the motorbikes; Sweet Belem in Petersham has got the best pastries; and the last drop cafe in Dulwich Hill is just close and handy for a new study area… Not since the early year of my sprinkler fitter apprenticeship have I seen a Big Breakfast for $6.50 that couldn’t be finished (admittedly it was from a dingy takeaway food joint in Smithfield), and not for years have I se

I saw this movie with Fi last night because a friend from work recomended it to her… It was dumb. M. Night Shyamalan was the director, and I liked the sixth sense, but this was dumb. Fi might say some good things about this movie on her blog, but all you’ll get from me is… dumb.

2007-12-08 06:54:58
I went to Artie’s new pizza shop at 33 Maloney St, Roseberry (Eastern suburbs of Sydney for the geographically challenged). Pizzeria is called “2 Fat Olives”. Pizza is great, good price, staff is friendly but that’s mostly because I’m friends with the staff - but I’m sure others will find the same experience. Order 02 9667 4992. I went to a funeral in Wellington (NSW central west for the geographically challenged) on Thursday for Fi’s uncle Len, her father’s step dad. It was a small funeral (8 people and a celebrant). He was a lonely man. We drove to Wello on Wednesday night, stayed with Fi’s mum, visited the Wagons, dinner with the brother-in-law, lunch and coffee with the father-in-law, and then home today at about 8:00pm. The week’s been a bit of a write-off in terms of work, but it was good to be out there visiting and being with the in-laws. I went to Maccas&hellip ; because we were travelling and maccas is travelling food
