Rose is a new Creative Realism painting that I started the other day. It is almost finished.

Yellow Rose is just a simple painting trying to capture a beautiful flower’s incredible beauty that has fascinated the world for years. Just think of how this flower has captured the world’s fancy as no other flower. It has its own holiday Valentine’s Day. People feel compelled on any momentous occasion to include this flower. Why is that? What power does this flower hold over us? Why has the rose captured hearts for so long?
I think it is almost a perfect metaphor for life. Start at the petals and you see a delicate beauty unlike almost any other. Draw close and you will smell a comely fragrance that doesn

Contemporary Twilight
Tulip is a departure for me from my Creative Realism for a little creativity and experimentation. I want to use it in my commission portfolio to give clients ideas to consider for their projects and to show my versatility. I’m always leery doing such and might still decide against it. It is definitely more modern than I usually paint much like the painting I used to do at work. There was always something different to do which kept it exciting and fresh.
The base for Twilight Tulip is gesso, then glass beads and volcanic particles and varnish; makes a fun surface for painting. The glass beads are not having the effect I hoped for but I’ll get that later. I hope that they’ll show just a little inner sparkle after final touches are applied.

Thunderbolt
Thunderbolt is a large painting I’ve been working on that is close to being finished. I’ll do some work on his head and front legs to get more depth and do a little more work on the grass, then I’ll be done. I want his head and chest to stand out with his hind quarters blending into the background as he is supposed to be symbolic of thunder, the warning of lightning.

I’ve got a rose lined up to go on this panel as soon as it dries a little more as drying time has slowed greatly since the warmth and sunshine of summer have passed. I get them as much fresh air and sunlight as I can though. In the summer this panel would have done been completed.

Here is another painting that I’m throwing back on the easel to fix and finish. The yellow stem that was going to be a moss covered branch will be done away with, the blade of grass on the right side will be deleted and the branch will be pushed into the background. I may even trim some off to save on the gilded frame it will go in and to gain a better composition with more of a vertical thrust.
Can anyone guess what the name of this Appalachian beauty is?
