Spread some sunshine while shopping this Holiday Season 2007-11-05 15:09:00 So, I had a talk with my children. I asked what they wanted for Christmas this year, and of course you can just guess that it was all those toys, they've seen on TV commercials. As you might already know, I'm boycotting Mattel, and I really hope that all the family members will too. Me and the kids talked long how we have our own small business, and when we buy gifts, we would like to buy them from other small businesses, and support other family-owned companies. We'll buy toys, which are handmade, or have a whole new message, and a bigger meaning. "Like your skimbaco-necklace?" asked my daughter. Exactly! You will find some great gift ideas in my Holiday
Gift Guide, and I will also add new categories, like Handmade gifts later (the Etsy sellers tend to sell out some styles so fast, that I'm waiting with that a few weeks). Also, visit Celebrity Baby Blog and What's Hot for Tots this month too - you will get great gift ideas from the heart. What's Hot for Tots has teamed up with Ma Read more:Spread

A new Friend - Little Sprouts 2007-11-01 20:26:00 I was at the post office mailing my packages last week, and saw somebody else with a package load as big of mine. I couldn't help but hearing the post office lady to ask the lady with the packages "do you sell online" and the lady answering "yes, I sell baby clothing and toys". I couldn't help myself but interrupt and let them know I had been listening their conversation (well, it was impossible not to in a small post office, right next to me!). "So do I - I sell children's clothing online too" I said, and there was an instant connection. It was just unbelievable to even think that there would be two ladies in our small town owning their children's online stores - and I had never heard of her. We exchanged phone numbers and hopefully we can get together some time soon and do the "business talk" about the baby stores, let the girls play together and have an afternoon at the park. She seemed so nice, and I was so excited to meet her. Check out her store, Little Sprouts

Pluto tees are a Must Have this Holiday! 2007-11-08 20:37:00 Pluto might be the littlest planet, but Pluto tees are the biggest hit this Holiday
season! The designs are just fun, colorful and appeal both to the kiddos and the parents. The designer Ellen Oxhorn has combined what's hip and pop right now, with genuine ideas and creative ways to see old things in a new light. Even though it is almost impossible just to pick one favorite, I have to say I love the sibling tees. My kids are each others bestfriends, and these Big Sister, Little Sister and Little Brother tees are going to be found for sure under our tree this Christmas. (25$ each)You probably have seen Pluto tees before - on magazines, TV and the hippest children's boutiques and on celebrity kids. Julianne Moore's daughter likes the pink Butterfly (23$) tee. And what do you think of the "Walk on the wild side"..... or the birdies on the tree?Available at Skimbaco.com this Holiday season. Zosephine Diaper Bags for Modern Moms 2007-11-07 19:30:00 Minneapolis, 116$When I had my first baby, I received a Winnie-the-Pooh diaper bag as a gift. I didn't really know what think about it. I had never owned a Winnie-the-Pooh bag, nor I wanted to. Was I suddenly suppose to like carrying a Disney character bag around, just because I was a mom now? Was I being a bad new mom, if I just said I hated the bag, and wasn't going to use it? Was I supposed to change my style, wasn't I considered hip and stylish anymore, just because I was a Mom? This was 7 years ago, and I ended up giving the bag for charity and using a black messenger as a diaper bag. Oh I wish I had had a Zosephine diaper bag! How many times I ended up searching for items from inside the bag because of the lack of pockets - or spilling water inside.. But hey, at least I looked like a hip mama!Zosephine diaper bags are stylish, modern and look more like something I could have carried around during the really hip college years, or I could use now as a laptop bag. So they are per Read more:Diaper

School shooting in Finland 2007-11-07 12:41:00 I am totally coming out of my box here today. I am from Finland
and I am truly saddned of the news of the school shooting
in Jokela high school in Finland today.18-year old high school student shot seven students and the principal of the school in the southern Finland today. The shooter also shot himself and is in the critical condition at the Töölö hospital in Helsinki. The shooter had been posting almost 90 YouTube videos, including one named "Jokela High School
Massacre - 11/7/2007". Link to video.According to Finnish media, YouTube moderators had even commented one of his videos saying "60mg per day keeps school shootings away" just two days ago. I can't help thinking - could they have done something to prevent this from happening by informing Finnish officials? YouTube has removed all the shooter's videos and comments from their site. This is not the first school shooting happening in Finland. The last one was in January 1989, and two students died. The school system in Finl

Photo by Bauer Griffin.Actress Embeth Davidtz, her husband Jason Sloane, and their daughter Charlotte Emily, 5, attend the The PS Arts Express Yourself 10th Anniversary on Sunday, November 4th in CA. The skirt is Tea Collection Hermosa Floral skirt, and I just lowered all Tea Collection Fall line prices, so this beauty is only 39.99$. Celeb-looks for your pretty girl, without having to break the bank! Photos by INF.And I just ove this photo of Denise Richrads and her little girls at the zoo - she looks just like any other mom. Now it's time to get your kid a laptop 2007-11-14 16:50:00 Vtech Nitro Notebook Electronic Learning Device, 39.92$Do you know those children's laptops, which actually are not even real computers, but laptop-looking toys, and you need to buy cards, books, cartridges or discs to get more out of them? The toy laptops, like LeapPad are great for younger kids, to sort of get to know what computers are, and they have great games and such. We had a few LeapPads when kids were 2-5 years old, and they loved them, for a while. The great thing about the toy laptops is that they are pretty inexpensive, under 100$, often even under 50$. Where you end up spending the money though, are all those extra cards or cartidges. The kid needs more than just one game, and after buying several 9-19$ extra games, the toy ends up being much more expensive you originally thought of. And when the child grows, they usually grow out of the laptop too and need another toy laptop with upgraded games and cartidges. The next step, the "learning devices" or more educational ty
Miley Cyrus shops at Lola et Moi - and this mama rocks! 2007-11-13 20:09:00 Photo: Just JaredHanna Montana rocks at our house, and now I have to thank Miley Cyrus for shopping at Lola et Moi boutique last week - the photos of "Hanna Montana" shopping at my daughters' favorite store just totally made the girls' day. And mine too - I sell Lola et Moi and for once Mom rocks at our house for selling such a cool brand. My kids love the fact that they have great clothes, but sometimes feel they are so not cool, since the clothes are from mom's store. After all, what mom knows, right? Last week we got a package from Shoes.com (thank you Grandma!) and Gaby had no interest to try her new shoes on at first. Then Isabella said to her "It's OK, they are not from Skimbaco", and she tried them on. Ouch - I felt really bad :( Those girls don't know how lucky they are - I wish my mom had owned a boutique when I was growing up! But I guess it doesn't really matter what you do, Moms just rarely are hip and fashionable in their kids' minds. But thanks Miley for shoppin Read more:shops
Pippi Longstocking rules - great Pippi gift ideas too! 2007-11-12 08:58:00 My daughter dressed up as Pippi
Longstocking for Halloween only to hear that many children at her school didn't know who Pippi is. Pippi Longstocking is the world famous character of Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. Pippi is this inventive, clever girl, who lives in her Villa Villekulla alone with her dalmatian spotted horse, and a monkey. Her dad is a sea captain, and never lives with Pippi, although Pippi sometimes visits him. Pippi hates school, rarely goes there, and even lies occasionally. She eats candy and sweets for dinner, and doesn't even brush her teeth. She is the world's strongest, and can do things ordinary children can't. She gets herself in trouble even with police and school teachers. She is not the poster child, nor she teaches "the right" values to children, but she teaches empowerment, and gives children something to think about. Pippi does all those crazy stunts all kids want to do, and the same way like kids love the villains like Sharpay in High School Musical Read more:ideas

CARES seatbelt makes flying with kids easy and safe 2007-11-11 16:50:00 On our last flight we had three children under 6 and lots of people giving us those "oh no!" looks when we were trying to board. We had to carry the car seats for safety, and the games and DVD-players for entertainment. I'm not too proud to say I think I should have received a gold medal, just for surviving the hauling part!I would love to travel light, even with children, but this mama cares about safety, and when it comes to my children's safety - I'm not taking any shortcuts just for convenience. If you are getting ready to fly with children, you don't have to haul all the gear to the plane, like we did. Neither you have to take any safety shortcuts thanks to CARES ($75). CARES is a children's safety belt for airplane seats, and the best for parents: it fits in your pocket. The harness-type seat belt, which is really easy install directly to the airplane seat, can be used the entire flight, and it is the only FAA approved harness type safety device for kids. Slurping Life is having a hippie photo contest 2007-11-10 21:33:00 Slurping Life is having a hippie
photo contest and I'm in.Hippie: A person who opposes and rejects many of the conventional standards and customs of society (or in this case photography). So here is my entry... This is Kristian and Frank (the dog) having a good time. I'm entering with first two, but added the third one to complete the seriers. The boys were running, and I let the camera do talking - all I did was kept pushing the button. These are three out of six photos, and the first one is just luck - I can't believe how centered Kris is, but you can see that the horizon isn't level.. The third one proves the best that it was just a hippie photo shoot, shot from my hip level. My camera is the Canon Digital Rebel XTi 10.1MP and I love it. Subscribe

Advent Calendars for waiting Christmas 2007-11-20 12:09:00 The traditions, the modern ways, the fun of counting days 'til the Holidays... And a huge list of resources where to find great calendars!Traditional Adevent calendar with picture of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the most known German Christmas
village.THE HISTORYThe tradition of an Advent
Calendar comes from Germany. The German Luthrans started counting days 'til Christmas already during the early 19th century. The count would start on December 1st and go until the 24th - the Christmas Eve.The first print version of advent calendars was made in Germany in 1904. It took a good 40 more years for the print calendars to get to Scandinavia. The traditional advent calendar has two pieces of cardboard together, the top part having doors cut in, which you can open one by one until Christmas. When I was growing up in Finland, I always had an Advent Calendar. It was always as exciting to open the doors and see what picture is in - or get the small chocolate from inside the calendar. They even have Read more:Calendars
10, 20 and 30 years ago 2007-11-20 10:16:00 Laura tagged me to do the 10-20-30 year meme - what I did 10, 20 and 30 years ago. 10 years ago - November 1997I was in Germany, where I had just met Matt in September. I moved back to Finland in November though - to get a job and save money to come to the US. 20 years ago - November 1987I was in school, 12 years old. I loved ballroom dancing, and kept busy after school doing sports, dancing, and going to girl scouts. My best friends were a set of twins. 30 years ago - November 1977I was two years old, and my mom was pregnat with my sister. I can't really remember anything, I was so young, my first memory is my sister being born in February 1978. I'm tagging Christine, and Sansku. Subscribe
TruKid offers help for dry skin 2007-11-19 23:45:00 The dry winter weather is ahead and I can already see that especially on my children's sensitive skins. It is time to start thinking about skin care and protecting skin from the weather to come. Did you know there are approximately 10,500 ingredients used in personal care products, and only 11% of those chemicals have been tested for health and safety? It's pretty scary, huh? It is extremely important to take notice what kind of skin care products your children use. Younger children absorb chemicals through the skin at a larger surface-to-volume ratio when compared with older children and adults. TruKid is the first all natural skin care line designed for children over 3 years old. They have a wide variety of lotions, lip balms and other skin care products - all chemical free and not tested on animals. The company promotes healthy lifestyle and offers a lot of great tips how to teach children live healthy. What I find the best: it's all really designed a child in mind. The products
Serendipity 2007-11-19 02:36:00 Photo: Homemade at FlickrSerendipity: is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely.I believe there is a purpose, there is a destiny and there is serendipity. Sometimes the worst thing that happens to you ends up being the best thing ever happened. But I don't believe your life has a pre-set plan, your destiny changes according the way you live your life. Serendipity happens and you discover things you didn't even know you missed in your life. I met over 50 year old woman just recently and she told me she was planning on a trip to Austin, Texas to listen to one of her old high school friends to play in a band. He never really knew her even back in the high school, but I guess she had always had a crush on him. She had googled him, and now she is obsessed seeing him again after all these years. First I thought that this lady was crazy. What is she thinking that this man is going to say to her after she just
