Honeymoon Island 2007-10-14 12:30:00 Today I went fishing at HoneymoonIsland
and caught a couple lizard fish, some squirrel fish, some amberjack, and some speckled trout. So I would say today turned out to be a good one.We used Gulp's shrimp, live shrimp, Silver spoons, and Gulp's Anchovy jerk shad. If we had to rate each performance I would say The live shrimp caught us the most, then the anchovy, then the Gulp shrimp, and lastly the spoons.-If anyone fishes by Dunedin or anywhere somewhat close, and could tell us a good place leave us a message or email me. Thanks a lot!-
Tips, tips, tips 2007-10-13 17:21:00 Here are yet 2 more tips:Hooks and Lures, are typically not made with Stainless Steel hooks unless they are specified as saltwater lures. To increase your hooking power and success in saltwater you should remove all of your old hooks from your freshwater lures and replace them with stronger stainless steel hooks. Not only does this increase the life of your lure but also helps in making sure you land that monster fish when your equipment matters the most. Don't let rusty or saltwater-weakened hooks be the reason for losing that trophy. The worst thing about Saltwater Fishing is Saltwater. Make sure after every use that you rinse your reels and oil them at least once a month. Doing this will increase your reel life and ensure longer smoother casts. So good luck and catch some big fish!

Stone crab season! 2007-10-12 19:28:00 Are you looking for hard bottom? Chances are pretty good that someone’s done most of the work for you. If relatively shallow water fishing is what you look to do in the bays and just off the beaches, listen up. October 15, stone crab season begins. Crabbers are dropping their traps in areas on hard rocky bottom where stonies will reside. These same locations will likely hold baitfish that will attract Spanish and king mackerel, black sea bass, grouper, mangrove snapper, and a host of other fish. Targeting these spots on your way offshore or as destination locations will definitely increase your changes of catching more fish. Read more:Stone
Fishing lines 2007-10-11 07:51:00 Fluorocarbon verses MonofilamenFishing
lines: the material that is the link between you and the fish. Therefore it is of great importance that we choose the right material. There are two main contenders, fluorocarbon and monofilament, which both have their advantages. For high breaking strain you have to choose monofilament since you simply don't get fluorocarbon in that high a breaking strain. Monofilament also had the advantage of being much cheaper. However, monofilament has a wider diameter and is more easily to spot under water. It also stretches alot more than fluorocarbon meaning you might not set the hook if fishing at distance.Fluorocarbon is great to use a hook length when float fishing. This is because it is roughly the same density as water and so virtually invisible. This is reason it is used to a great extent in fly fishing. It is also has a much thinner diameter. What about braid I here you say?! Well braid is simply strands of fishing line braided together. Therefore ther

What the fish don't see though are any signs of hooks protruding from the lure. Hidden inside the body are twin retractable hooks that will be released when a fish strikes. With no exposed hooks, the lure can be easily worked through grass, over reefs and around other structure without fear of hanging up.The slickFISH comes in a variety of colors as well as tail colors that can be purchased separately. Baits 2007-10-08 18:47:00 If you like to use artificial baits then here are some that I use a lot and have great luck!First of all I love to use Gulp. They have a variety of different types of baits. I like to use the shrimp. Both types of their shrimp works great, so if you like fake-bait then I would go with this. Also there is DOA Shrimp. They have a few different colors so you have to know which color the fish are bitting in your area. This bait is Okay. I haven't had that much of luck with it but it works. I hear a lot that other people use it and they have great luck with it. So I guess it is all about being at the right place at the right time.If you like to use live bait then here are some that I also use and have luck with.Shrimp- Fish always seem to bite on live shrimp no-matter what you are fishing for, so this is an excellent bait. The bigger the shrimp the bigger fish.®Pinfish- They are great for bait except they die quickly. One reason for this is because any oil or substance you have in your ha

Helpful Tips 2007-10-06 12:18:00 Boats can create noises, spooking fish, when waves slap against the hull. People moving around in a boat can create pressure waves coming away from the boat, alerting fish to your presence. Being able to cast great distances can get your lure or bait away from the boat giving you an advantage over a short caster when fishing out of a boat. For maximum casting distance, consider using one of the ultra thin diameter braided lines such as Power Pro. (I have added a picture of this line on my fishing pole.) The line has virtually zero memory, is far thinner in diameter than its monofilament pound test equivalent, and casts creating very little friction going through the guides. All of these factors translate into longer casts. You may also consider using a longer rod, perhaps 7’6”, for extra distance. If you prefer mono, be sure the spool is filled to within 1/8-inch of the rim of the spool. For even longer casts, consider dropping down in the size of your mono line because thinner lin
Tip for you fishing people 2007-10-18 19:34:00 With king and Spanish mackerel moving into the Suncoast, it’s time to get out the binoculars. Fishing the beaches on some hard bottom can be very productive in the fall and spring for mackerel. East winds can flatten seas, clearing Gulf waters. Clear water scenarios will push baitfish on to the beaches, bringing mackerel in to feed. Trolling spoons around bait pods can produce some nice fish, but in times when winds clock around to the west, bait could move offshore a mile or more, making it more difficult to find fish. Flocking birds generally are a sign of bait schools and it’s likely that pelagics will be right behind. A good pair of binoculars can spot flocks of birds several miles away on the horizon for those days when beach fishing isn’t happening. Don’t get lenses that are too powerful, since keeping them steady on a rocking boat may make it difficult to focus on objects. Typically 7 X 35 or 7 X 50 will give you good magnification and a decent field of view. Finding bir Read more:people

Tips, and update(s) 2007-10-15 17:00:00 Structure, structure, structure is where you want to fish. So man-made structure or natural structure is where you want to fish . This is because fish like to stay by structure for a couple reasons;1. There is coral and crustaceans, which means bait fish which means big fish.2. It blocks them from the current. So they don't have to exert as much energy to stay put.3. Fish can hide from predators. So if you are by structure then cast about 2 feet from it, and I promise you the best.Another tip is as follows; It can be helpful if you plan the night ahead for your fishing trip, be it inshore fishing or offshore. And what I mean by planning ahead is to get to know tomorrow's tide tables, and information. Also rig all your poles for whatever lures, spoons, or hooks you will use. I would recommend doing this because when your out there fishing and nothing is biting on a certain bait or rig, just the simple switch of poles can be a life-saver. So get planning for your big fishing trip the ni
