Others are in Jembrana regency, and Bangli regency. The Balinese like strong coffee. When drinking coffee we prefer our coffee to be black, without cream nor milk with little sugar. This is the common Bali coffee taste. If you are a coffee drinker, you should try the Bali coffee. What Does A Snake Skin Fruit Taste Like? 2007-08-22 05:04:00 Snake fruit or snake skinned fruit is the name for a local Bali fruit called salak. Salak is very popular in Bali and accros Indonesia. The term "Salak Bali" refers to a unique taste of salak grows only in Karangasem, East Bali. The skin, as it name implies, is resemblance of snake skin. The skin which is built of scales similar to snake’s skin is quite sharp. It will hurt your finger if you are not careful. The shape of salak is round but there is a kind of pointed tip at one end. Just remove this tip with your hand to start peeling the snake skin fruit. It will be easier to peel this way.Inside, there are usually white flesh with hard date inside it. You can eat the white part but not the date. It will taste sweet, dry and greasy when ripe. Some people say it taste like apple. Others say it taste like pear. If it is not ripe, it tastes sour and greasy. To know if salak is ripe or not is quite difficult. But you can say that it is ripe when the colour turn darker. The young salak is Read more:Fruit

Bali's Favourite Attraction 2007-08-17 23:29:00 Yesterday I read an interesting article on the front page of The Bali Times, it’s the biggest English newspaper on the island. The title was "Bali’s Biggest Attraction
: Its’ People - BT Poll". According to their survey, most tourists come to Bali because of the warmth and friendliness of the Balinese.I, myself, often ask tourists question like, "what do you like best about Bali?" and though not conducting any proper questionnaire, I got a lots of answer from them stating that they like the friendliness of the Balinese. When they meet the Balinese as they walk in the street, in the hotel, in the village, the Balinese seems to be happy meeting other people. So, if you walk around yourself, you will probably experience it yourself where people say hello to you. Well, what your mom says about not talking to stranger is also true, but in Bali people say hello to stranger.Next attraction besides people is the because it is inexpensive holiday in Bali. Why Bali Cat has no tail? 2007-08-14 02:13:00 I often got questions from tourists that I went tour with, "Do the Balinese cut their cat’s tail?" This usually happens when they see a cat popping from people’s house or just when they see a cat in the street. If you look closely at those cats, they look like that they don’t have tail.Yes, our cat has no tail or it has a very very short tail as small as a boy’s thumb. At least, it is not a proper tail like any other kind of cat has, for instance, Persian cat. But rest assured, we never cut any cat’s tail in Bali, not for any reason, never. Why do you think we do that? Poor cat.The cat in Bali has short tail, that is their nature. Maybe it is because of an evolution or something like that, it is not clear to me. I have not find any reference about it. So, there is a Balinese who knows the answer, please write your comment here. I need the enlightment. However, not all Balinese cats are born without tail. There those(should I call them?) the luc
Romantic Sea Food Dinner At Jimbaran Bay 2007-08-07 07:35:00 Spending evening with your loved ones in Jimbaran Bay is worth a try. Jimbaran Bay, or Kedonganan Beach (15 minutes drive south of air port) is a very popular site of sea food restaurants or cafes. Located just by the beach, these restaurants have unique setting. Many visitors enjoys the taste of sea food prepared with both local and international recipes. One of the restaurant that I recommend is the Sea Side Cafe which is owned and managed by the local Balinese. The perfect time to come to this restaurant is in the evening, during the wonderful sunset. You can have table on the white sand waiting as the sky turn orange and the gentle breeze wipe your face. There are many selections of fish you can try. They will give you the menu offerings what is available there. Usually you will be asked to go to the front of the restaurant where they grill the fish. This is where you can choose what kind of fish you’d like to have. A few of the selection available are: fresh lobster, prawns, r Read more:Dinner

In the streets of Bali, you can see, groups of students marching. They are practicing for the competition which usually held on the 14 of August. The Rough Guide to Bali and Lombok 2007-08-01 04:04:00 I have a quick scan on this book entitled The RoughGuide
to Bali and Lombok 5 and found it is very handy for traveler. Especially it contains of detail information about places to go, how much you pay for certain things like tipping, and where to go to stay, or to eat. It is quite an interesting book for me to read, especially to look at Bali from outsider’s eyes. One very interesting explanation made I found is about introducing yourself to some one.The book explains (page 80) that for a Balinese when meeting somebody new, or just being introduced to someone, they will say "Where do you sit?" I need to think for a moment, because, as a Balinese I never bother about where people will sit, whether they want to sit on the coach or on the sofa. Just joking. The phrase "Where do you sit?" is translated from the Balinese phrase "Nawegang antuk linggih?" . Indeed, the word linggih means to sit, but in this regard, it talks about position in the society. So, I would never translate it a
Tips On Visiting Hindu Temples In Bali 2007-07-21 00:18:00 To visit temples in Bali, there are few rules you need to know. One very common rule is that you need to wear sarong when entering the temple. There are other rules to bear in mind so you can easily enter the temple without any doubt or fear offending the locals. This is also to make sure you will not spoil your holiday in Bali. Here are the list of rules for entering temples in Bali, (some may sound funny to you).Wear sarong. Some temples, especially those that have lots of visitors, provide sarongs at the entrance. You can put it on before entering the temple. Why sarong? Sarong is meant to cover the "unholy" part of our body, especially under the waist part. (Note: most of the temples in Bali do not provide sarongs, so it could be handy to have it if temple is in your tour itinerary.)Dress properly or decently. This is self explanatory, so, I am not going to dig on that.Ladies in period are not allowed to enter the temple.People whose relatives recently passed away and still conduct Read more:Hindu

Bali Food Guide: Trying Local Food 2007-07-10 08:16:00 Have you ever wanted to try the authentic Balinese food? To try the spicy and hot vegetables or chicken sate? Eating at restaurants can be representative for trying the Bali food, but it’s not really authentic Bali food. Chances are, the food has been adjusted, meaning, it is not as spicy or as hot as the real Bali food. So, what can you do?You can try food at the food stalls or wrung available locally in Bali. One that I can recommend is a food stall located just north of Ubud. (So, if you are staying in bud, there is no reason not to try the Bali local food.) Located at Kedewatan village, the Warung Nasi Ayam (Rice with Chicken Stall) belongs to Ibu Mangku, this place is popular for the locals. As the name implies, the food available here is steamed Bali rice and many varieties of chicken recipes. When you order the Nasi Ayam, you will be served with a plate of rice with sliced chickens, fried chickens with hot spicy sauce known as sambal, fried nuts and long beans. The Bali Flowers: Why We Need Them Every Day? 2007-06-27 06:01:00 Traveling to Bali, beside enjoying the beautiful panorama of the paradise island, you will also observe various kind of plants and flowers. The flowers has a very important role in Balinese life and culture. I must say, I don’t think Balinese can pass any single day without flower. This sounds like an exaggeration, but after reading this post, I am sure you will agree. There are many kinds of flowers growing in Bali, namely, rose, jasmine, frangipani, hibiscus, and buogenville. If you ask me, what is the Bali flower, then the answer is Sandat. I am not quite sure what its translation in English. Sandat is very popular, not for decoration or for a gift to your girl friend, but for offerings and ’tool’ for praying. It is yellow in colour, and has a beautiful smell. Even if the colour turns black, because it is already dry, the scent remains. There is a Balinese song written by local composer that tells about this flower. The song is about an advice to Balinese young girl Read more:Flowers

Galungan: The Biggest Religious Celebration In Bali 2007-06-23 00:49:00 If you come to Bali this week, you will notice that there are ornamented bamboo poles erected in front of every Hindu Bali house in Bali. These bamboo poles are called Penjor and also a sign of the upcoming Galungan and Kuningan Day.The celebration of Galungan day is to commemorate the victory of Dharma (good) versus Adharma (evil). You can say the victory meant here is a spiritual achievement when one can put aside all the bad things or negative thinking, actions, and speaking, but only to focus on good things. If you ask a Balinese what it is meant by Galungan day, s/he probably will reply that it is simply victory of Dharma against Adharma or good versus evil. That’s it. Who is the Dharma, and who is Adharma, are not so plain. But, anyway, Kuningan Day another celebration which takes place ten days after Galungan day. On this day, as also the Galungan day, the local Balinese will pray in their family temple thanking the almighty God and their ancestors for the victory of Dharma

Why There Is No Dining Room in A Bali House? 2007-06-16 22:42:00 A house in Bali has no dining room. Why is that? Where do they eat? Those are the questions in your mind. Before we talk about it, we need to see how a Bali house is built. The house in Bali is built based on a concept of "mountain-ocean" line. The lay out of the building must follow the idea or believe that the direction toward the mountain is sacred but the direction toward the sea is less sacred. The mountain is considered sacred because it is the highest point or closest part to the heaven. Meaning that the higher the place, the more sacred it is. This is the reason why the sacred building, such as family temple, is located somewhere in the northern part of the house for people who live south of the mountains. Less sacred part, like kitchen and toilet, is in the direction toward the sea.For Balinese who live in south Bali, south of the mountains, the house will consist of: building for the parents and family temple which is located in the north. The Art of Bali Bargaining 2007-06-10 06:57:00 If you buy something in Bali in most shops and markets, you need to bargain. Bargaining can be difficult if you are not used to it. Some of the people that I talked to told me it is quite embarrassing to bargain, because they rarely, if not never, do it in their life. In Bali the sellers expect you to bargain when you want to buy something. If you don’t bargain, you might pay too much for something you buy.So, how do you bargain? When you walk accross a shop, let say a T shirts shop, the seller often shout loudly to you in their Balinese accent, "Come ya, just have a look. Not buying is okay." You walk in and see something you like and take it. You try it and the seller give a price. Tell the seller that the price is too expensive, shake your head, and give the T-shirt back to the seller. Then the seller will lower the price or ask you to name your price. Normally, people bargain fifty percent of what the price is offered. Let say, the price is 10 bucks, then you bargain 5 bucks. Then
