pacquiao - marquez 2: who will prevail?
2008-03-14 13:13:00
Less than two days to go before the big rematch and everybody’s excited, most especially in our part of the globe where Manny Pacquaio is all but a national hero. There are streamers announcing the fight, banners of moral support and countless ads promoting specially set up pay-per-view venues for the multitude of pinoy fans without cable. Some people are going to make a killing out of a Pacquiao fight again! He he. But that’s not all, politicians are also getting into the action. A number of unscrupulous politicos have set up their own FREE-per-view venues for their constituents, all... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

Beijing 2008 Olympics: the torch relay begins
2008-03-23 13:18:20
A few hours from now, from the ancient ruins of Olympia in Greece, a Greek actress portraying a head priestess, will light the flame symbolic of the Olympic games’ spirit. From the rays of the sun, a concave mirror will harness the heat that will ignite the flame that will be carried by around the world. From Olympia, the flame will be carried 950 miles through Greece by 645 runners. It will then be handed over to Chinese authorities at the refurbished ancient stadium in Athens where the first modern games were held in 1896. A relay of runners will then carry the torch for 85,000 miles over... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

Ellen DeGeneres wants Arnel Pineda!
2008-03-25 12:20:30
I was watching Ellen last night and this caught my attention. She was talking about Simon Cowell and his usual meanness this season on American Idol, showing clips of the (in)famous British lambasting hapless hopefuls on the hit show. She then segued into Arnel Pineda's video and how she wants him (and Journey) on the show. Watch this: So there, Arnel Pineda will be in Ellen soon. Another thing for Pinoys worldwide to look forward to. Thanks Ellen. Thank you for featuring another world class talent from our humble third world country. And please continue scouring YouTube for fresh... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

my Tubbataha Reef diving “experience”
2008-03-28 01:29:52
I could feel the cool water touching my skin as I swam effortlessly, weaving through colorful corals and fish, and avoiding fellow divers who blocked my path. Darn those newbies, why did they ever sign on to this dive, my dive. They’re keeping me back, I told myself. The diving instructors were working double time just to keep track of them. They’re just too slow for me, I thought. We should have been miles away by now if not for these turtles, exploring the other side of the Tubbataha Reef and discovering wonders I have only now laid eyes on. Hmm, I’ll have to join the advanced divers’... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

I've got the music in me
2008-04-04 12:50:02
Being Pinoy means loving music. We seem to have this natural knack of interpreting the melody and lyrics of any song, be it rock, classics, jazz, rhythm & blues, or our sentimental favorites, ballads. Proof of this are the countless Filipino performers scattered all over the globe singing their hearts out to the delight of audiences. Another proof of our penchant for song are the numerous karaoke machines in bars, hotels, restaurants and clubs, not to mention personal karaoke gadgets in almost every Pinoy household here and abroad. These gizmos have helped produce dozens of Ramieles,... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

the “no underwear look” is alive and well
2008-04-06 19:59:37
(Warning: Photos in this post may be hazardous to your (mental) health; due discretion is advised. He he. For mature readers only, so all you minors out there, come back later!) I received this collection of photos a few hours ago, right after church. Great timing huh? I was again hard-pressed for a post after my mind went “half empty”. Little did I know that I would find what I was looking for when I got home and checked my mail. Britney, Lindsay, Christina. Apparently, the “no underwear look” is alive and well in Hollywood with these stars having no qualms about flashing their... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

Paul Potts made me cry
2008-04-08 11:22:28
Paul who? I’m sure many of you know him (after more than 23 million hits on his YouTube video) but that was my first reaction upon reading his name from a mobile phone text message a friend sent me earlier. I’ve never heard of the guy before, and certainly don’t know his story. “He will make you cry” was the next part of the message, followed by “just look for his video on YouTube and you’ll know what I mean.” Apparently, my friend was watching Oprah earlier today (probably a rerun) and Paul Pott’s video was featured there. I immediately searched for it on YouTube and got the most... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

SHOCKER: Michael Johns voted out of American Idol!
2008-04-11 07:02:49
Michael Johns kicked out of American Idol? What? This is a shocker, especially to me since I was counting on Michael to land in the top three. Sure, I was not impressed by his rendition of Aerosmith's "Dream On" last night, but there are worse performers out there. Moreover, He hasn't been in the bottom three before so I assumed he had a fighting chance this week despite a weak performance. This is the biggest shocker yet! What happened? Did his followers become complacent and over-confident this week? OMG, I can't get over it. I am surprised that Kristy Lee Cook is still in there. ... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

saturday photohunt: twisted
2008-04-12 02:09:20
For this week's theme, I found several things to photograph around the house, both pleasant and unpleasant. The first two are from the kitchen - a fruit basket made of twisted glass and a handcrafted coaster made of woven abaca (Manila hemp) fiber. The third one I found in the bedroom, behind the PC, printer, scanner and other gadgets stacked in one corner of the room. It's a twisted mess of wires and cables! Yikes! Don't worry, I cleaned them up right after taking this photo. I didn't realize it was this bad until I saw it this morning. I never thought HANDS-FREE BLOGGING was possible!
2008-04-15 05:53:04
Yes, you read it right. I would have called it “blogging by remote control” but I think “hands-free” is more appropriate. I never thought it was possible until I tried it (in desperation), using a “device” that was under my nose all this time. You too can do it. I had to be resourceful. A case of stomach flu sidelined me over weekend, dashing hopes of another raucous night out with friends and engaging in my favorite activity at present, blogging. I was confined to my bed under strict doctor’s orders and was feeling helpless. However, I quickly found a solution. The flu might have... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

2008-04-19 02:50:15
I was stumped with this week's theme. I didn't want to take it literally and post a photo of the number 13 so I made this - a collage of thirteen previously submitted photos to the hunt. a new custom domain: just like starting over (sort of)
2008-04-22 06:51:55
Well, I finally did it! After months of fickle thought, I have swallowed the bitter pill and transferred to my own domain . I would have stayed in blogspot forever, content and happy with the free hosting and user-friendly platform. It’s been more than a year since I discovered blogging and I had no complaints (well, actually there are a few but they're quite insignificant). But then a contact’s remark made me realize that I had to get my own domain. “You have grown, your blog has grown. Time to make it on your own.” Yup, I told myself, time to leave the crib. I chose to stay with... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

madonna decena: she's got talent!

Another Filipino talent has is getting noticed at YouTube. This time it's Madonna Decena, a Pinay single mother who has joined "Britain's Got Talent", the same competition that produced another YouTube favorite and who eventually won the said competition last year, Paul Potts. did Hugh Hefner pull out Playboy Philippines?
2008-04-28 09:34:58
A comment from a reader immediately caught my attention. Rumor has it that Hugh Hefner saw the dismal first Philippine issue of his beloved trademark and he ordered a complete pull out! Wow, how embarrassing for the publishers if this turns out to be true. I tried to use good ole Google to search for some confirmation about this but to no avail, so far. Though the item has been circulating the grapevine for several days now (I’m always the last to hear about these things), nothing official has been announced. Maybe it’s a hush-hush issue considering the embarrassment it would give both... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

Google is just like Paula Abdul
2008-04-30 13:28:24
Hey Paula , are you drunk again?! I was watching American Idol earlier tonight, eager to catch the remaining five finalists sing songs of Neil Diamond. However, Paula Abdul turned out to be the biggest entertainment of the night! Since there were only five finalists left, each of them had to sing two songs. After the first round of performances, Ryan Seacrest asked the judges for a brief assessment of their performances. Randy Jackson rattled off his comments quickly. When it came to Paula's turn, everybody (this blogger included) held their breath and waited for another blunder. She... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

top Entrecard droppers for April
2008-04-30 11:15:03
Whenever I write a post about Entrecard, I never fail to mention how it has helped this blog. Since becoming a member more than four months ago, I have discovered websites that have helped, amused and inspired me as a blogger. Some of these are blogs i wouldn't have found were it not for Entrecard's dropping scheme. I am sure many other members feel the same for they have experienced it as well. And I am sure my blog would not have gained the traffic it now enjoys (though still very modest) if not for Entrecard as well. Therefore, as a token of my gratitude, I would like to thank my... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

smoking again: what was I thinking?
2008-05-02 20:05:47
While waiting for the internet café to open yesterday morning (yes, my DSL connection at home was busted again), I found myself idle, walking around the arcade at ten in the morning while the café attendant was still cleaning up. I then went to the wine store next door, browsing through its glass window at the collection on display when something hit me. Why don’t I buy a pack of my favorite cigarettes, I asked myself. Not that I miss it. I just wanted to try it again. After all, I can stop whenever I wanted so it’s not as if this would be the beginning of another “addiction”. "let us complain less and give more"
2008-05-05 08:18:13
Sometimes we forget how lucky we are. Sometimes we look at the glass as half empty rather than half full, forgetting that there are millions out there whose glasses are always empty. While dropping Entrecards the other night, I stumbled on a site called Hot Topics. In its post entitled "The Truth About Life", I found riveting photos depicting the plight of many children today. It is a powerful photo essay reminding its readers how luckier they are than most, and why we should be thankful for what we have. How many times in the past have we complain ed about having nothing to wear, how our... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

he who must not be named
2008-05-06 13:02:20
I am sure many of you are familiar with that phrase, having been exposed to the adventures of our favorite boy wizard. But this post is not about Voldemort, or even Harry Potter. This piece is about a Filipino superstition that is still being practiced (and believed) in these modern times. While munching on some snacks late one afternoon, I suddenly saw a rat speeding across the kitchen floor towards the fridge. It was a small one, juvenile by their standards but a rat nonetheless. Not wanting to alarm my mom (she usually overreacts), I said nothing. Late that night, I secretly set up... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

2 tags: the Stumble Worthy List & A Kid's Question
2008-05-09 04:33:52
This tag came from Liza of Mommy's Little Corner, and it quite easy to do. I read that it is possible to increase the traffic of your blog through StumbleUpon, so I have decided to try it out, with your help of course. Here is the concept: Stumble the pages that link to you. In this way you drive more traffic to the page containing your link and thus you hope that some of that traffic comes back to you via the link on that page. Supposedly, we are to link ourselves to Stumbled sites to generate the traffic that we want. But what if we could just Stumble on each other's sites/blogs? Let's... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

"I believe the children are our future, teach them well..."
2008-05-15 22:22:00
It is a scene we see everyday. For thousands of drivers and commuters plying the streets of Metro Manila, the malnourished children begging on street corners, knocking on your car windows, tugging at your shirt while you wait to cross the street…..Sadly, most of us have been jaded by such scenes. Some of us are no longer affected when we see their hungry faces looking up and begging for attent

David Cook or David Archuleta?
2008-05-18 07:32:00
One thing is certain, the next winner of American Idol will be named David ! This year's final result is turning out to be one of the most anticipated in recent years. Unlike in last year's finale when Jordin Sparks was the obvious choice of the majority, it is quite different this year. The two finalists, David Cook and David Archuleta, are pretty evenly matched going into the homestretch. It w

looking for a GREEN car?
2008-05-18 03:05:00
In this age of global warming and environmental consciousness, I know that many people are advocating "green" practices and the use of "green" products to spare mother nature. There are campaigns to use biofuels, compact fluorescent bulbs, recycling and more recycling. But I think the owner of the car above totally missed the point and took the green campaign a little too literally! (Looks like

SEX is the cure for colds, really!
2008-05-19 12:52:00
It’s the worst day of my life! That’s what I usually tell everyone around me whenever I have a cold. Give me any other minor ailment (except a toothache) and I can take it, going about my daily routine in peace. But give me a cold and you’ll hear me complaining endlessly. The drastic changes in the weather have taken their toll on me, not to mention the late nights due to my blogging add

why is 'Harry Potter' naked?
2008-05-25 08:03:00
I was clearing the pantry of some clutter yesterday when I saw this headline on an old newspaper tabloid: "'Harry Potter ' naked!" I grabbed it immediately and proceeded to open the pages. If Harry Potter is naked, then Hermione shouldn't be far behind. He he. The pervert in me has been awakened! It turned out that Hermione isn't part of the article. No mention of her or her state of undress,

America has crowned David Cook as American Idol champ for 2008! Let me first say this because I want to get it off my chest. That has to be one of the corniest openers for an American Idol season finale yesterday. With famed boxing announcer Michae

useful lessons in web hosting

It's been almost a month since I transferred to my own custom domain and I still get the feeling that I made the wrong move. Don't get me wrong, getting your own domain is the best thing that could happen to any blog but it's the hosting part that I kinda regret. With zero knowledge about web hosting, I eagerly grabbed Blogger's option to host my site for free, shelling out a mere ten dollars fo
