The Colts are coming… you’d better get out of the way
2007-09-07 11:41:38
We were planning to talk about many things today, but now we can’t help but focus on what happened yesterday at the NFL Season opener.  Yes, we know that the Colts winning the game should not be such a surprise. But the way they crushed New Orleans Saints with a 31-point difference after half-time&hellip ;. now, THAT is worth mentioning! If football betting fans were expecting some good action, they definitely got the rush they wanted. Indianapolis began the 2007 NFL Football season as if XLI Super Bowl had taken place just last week.  The offense was almost flawless, even when it seemed like too simple or like a poor offensive strategy. The truth is, they were really good without trying to confuse their contenders. Peyton Manning made use of a very good judgemental capacity and called the plays just the way he had to.  Some people say that the Saints’ offense is more creative… but it seems that a good preparation works better than innovative strategies that could end up b

NFL Season is on, Man!
2007-09-06 11:21:51
Finally! The day all Football fans were expecting: NFL Season begins tonight. We will have the chance to watch real NFL games, place our football bets and enjoy Monday Night Football again. It’s time to evaluate New Orleans Saints.  These guys certainly have some good players and a great offense (maybe the best on the entire NFC). Reggie Bush is definitely one of their stars, and some even think that he is the one worth watching during that game. Deuce McAllister and Drew Brees (great passer) have been great players themselves and have also been the perfect complement for Bush.  It will be difficult for the Colts’ defense to beat the Bush-McAllister combination, and if the Saints play a neat strategy, they can take advantage of the low pressure they will get from Indianapolis on that field.     New Orleans also has a questionable defense, but last season  showed that they can be good when necessary. It is possible that the Colts’ defense is a bit weaker and there hasn’

‘iBet’ on Sept 6th: Indianapolis Colts Preview
2007-09-05 12:36:38
Today it’s time to review the betting strategies for NFL lines that we probably chose a while ago. While some are crazy about the new Apple announcement for improvements to iPods, the rest of us will be announcing our chances to do some good “iBet”  for NFL Season Opener. The Defending XLI Super Bowl Champions, Indianapolis Colts , will open the 2008 NFL Football Season on a very expected game against the New Orleans Saints tomorrow. But, putting all the fuzz aside, will the Colts be able to pull that deed again? Besides the default popularity for the single fact that they’re the current NFL Champions, they will also have home field advantage at RCA Dome. That will definitely help them in NFL betting odds. And, of course, there’s Peyton Manning. Manning has been considered like a super hero to the Colts, and maybe the one responsible for this title they are bragging so much about. Right now, CBS Power Rankings place Indianapolis as #1, saying “As long as Peyton Manning is

Week 1 College Football Poll Recap
2007-09-04 12:51:49
The AP NCAA Football Top 25 Poll is already out there for week 1. Many college football fans will have predicted some of the positions. The AP Poll places USC Trojans as #1, after their victory 38-10 against the Idaho Vandals on Saturday. On the 15th they will be facing #16 Nebraska, which had a good starting game too, and we will see if the Trojans are able to maintain that top place and a good way to the title. In second place comes LSU, one of the all-time favorites that seems to have made it to please all the college football betting fans. The Tigers crushed Mississippi State last week, and expect to repeat those good results against #9 Virginia Tech next Saturday (Sept. 8th). However, one of the most surprising events involved Michigan Wolverines, who were historically humilliated by the small but fierce Appalachian State Mountaineers and got kicked out of the Top 25. The Mountaineers, a minor-league type and barely known team (which is weird because they currently have a nation

Double D to Notre Dame for College Football Rankings
2007-09-03 15:15:13
Charlie Weis should receive an award for creating one of the weirdest strategies for College Football . After all the expectation he was trying to create by hiding the name of Notre Dame ’s starting QB against Georgia Tech last Sunday, his team was beaten by 30 points. Something never seen during Weis’ time as head coach. Well, at least he could actually turn that into a surprise, since nobody could’ve seen it coming. And, yes, by this I mean…Demetrius Jones?! What was going through his head? It is known that throwing some TDs is not exactly Jones’ specialty. The guy is more like the running type. Maybe he could have a few good moments, but he’s still not starting Quarterback material. It could have been anything that caused this shocking loss, but a bad choice like the one Weis did definitely had its influence on the College Football scores: it was so painful that they had to have him replaced ASAP. The Yellow Jackets thrashed the team, incluiding Weis and his over-an

Key players could turn into Key failures
2007-08-31 14:30:02
Every team (in NFL and College football, soccer and basically every sport) has its set of key players, the ones who seem to make everything happen and the ones considered like the real soul of the team when they are on their best. However, relying on a team’s key players when looking for a good sports betting strategy is just dumb. Of course everybody thinks about the key players. Even the oddsmakers will set the betting lines according to the starting QBs, starting pitchers and so on.  But the truth is, ANYTHING could happen during a game and nobody knows how things are going to turn out. Even with the superstars we put our trust on.A perfect example of these unexpected streaks of bad luck is the sad, sad story of the L.A. Galaxy: Once upon a time, there was an MLS soccer team that seemed to have everything fixed to become the next champions. They could even afford an imported $250 million player like David Beckham. Everything was set and everyone was positive that this could only

So much to watch on a Thursday night!
2007-08-30 16:55:54
We all should be jumping to our favorite couch right now and having tons of junk food, beer, and whatever you want to add: it’s Thursday Night Football. Final NFL Preseason games, plus the opening of NCAA College Football Season. Since the real NFL Football games are about to start, some of the teams are giving their starters a break and we will probably be looking at a bunch of young, almost unknown QBs. At least that’s what Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints will offer on tonight’s last Preseason match for sure. This could end up being the dullest game, or maybe they can surprise us with some good new stuff for the roster.    Looking at the whole scene, we shouldn’t expect that much action for pro football betting today and tomorrow, since they will be saving the best part for the NFL Season Opening rush (Key players like MVP Peyton Manning will be seen these days taking care of different matters, like making a pitch for New Orleans’ tourism after Katrina with

Soccer and the Injury Factor
2007-08-29 11:23:28
Trying to step away from NFL football a little bit, we can focus today on Soccer . And even with the shocking news of Sevilla player Antonio Puerta who died yesterday after a cardiac incident during a matchup, we will stay in this continent. Soccer is a very popular sport with a very unpopular U.S. League. However, the MLS has been drawing a lot more attention since David Beckham -superstar for some, overrated for others- came all the way over from England and entered the L.A. Galaxy. Tonight, the Galaxy will face Mexican squad Pachuca on the SuperLiga final. Many soccer betting fans are confident with the selection of great players for Los Angeles, but the truth is that we cannot forget that the Galaxy players have been a wreck lately when it comes to injuries. Landon Donovan has always been considered one of their key players (for the U.S. National squad too). About 10 days ago, Donovan strained his calf during a game against the New York Red Bulls, and that has kept him away from t

“Dude, where’s my Sportsbook?!”
2007-08-28 14:25:24
By this time now, there must be a good amount of confused betting fans in complete panic. Of course, that’s what would happen when you access your usual sportsbook and find out the site is DOWN. Down, just a few days away from the NFL Football Season opening!. Down, with so many College Football games taking place on Thursday. This is not a scary Halloween story for sportsbooks and football betting fans. This is what happened to a sportsbook like Bodog several hours ago.  Calvin Ayre, founder and CEO of the sportsbook, said “These problems are the direct result of a dispute over the ownership of the Bodog.com domain name. We are fighting this dispute and are confident that we will win.” Well, since they couldn’t sit and wait to see if Ayre was right, an emergency website has been created. That must’ve been a complete shocker for bodog players. If you are a complete gambling junkie and discover that your usual place is gone… wouldn’t your heart stop

NFL Week 4 Picks and Standings
2007-09-28 10:00:28
This NFL Football season is already stepping into Week 4, and the teams are working hard so they are not left behind so soon. Do you have your Week 4 NFL Picks? Here’s a glance at the standings of the NFL teams so far so you can have an idea and set your football betting strategy:  AFC Despite of the recent scandals, the Patriots are leading the East division with all 3 games won and 114-35. NY Jets are second with just 1 game. Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins are stuck on the lowest positions, with all 3 games out of their hands, even the one game they played with home field advantage.  The Steelers rule on AFC North. Following closely are Baltimore Ravens, with 2-1-0. Browns and Bengals share a 1-2-0 and a .333 PCT. Going South, Indianapolis Colts are the unquestionable leaders with 1 home game and 2 road games won. This is probably the best division of AFC considering all teams have 2 games on their pocket. The Titans are last on this list with a 64-46 record.  Finally, AFC

MLB is still on! American League Preview
2007-09-27 11:45:59
Changing the view a little bit, MLB is on right now and the standings are pretty interesting after yesterday’s games. Has anyone been watching Baseball lately?  On the AL East, the Boston Red Sox are leading over the Yankees, and after an exciting 11-6 win against Oakland they stood solid on 1st place. Add a good .595 to the mix and you will get a recipe for a potential Champion. Tonight they will face Minnesota at 7:05PM PT.  New York, despite being 2nd, also won over Tampa Bay with a great 13-4, though. The Devil Rays are way behind, with a sorry .411 PCT and a 65-93 on the stats. Tonight they will play again and we will see if yesterday’s game was just luck. On AL Central, Cleveland Indians are on top, with 94 games won and a .595 PCT on the records. The current leaders faced Seattle Mariners yesterday and tonight they will play against each other again.  Going West, The L.A. Angels of Anaheim are leaders with 92 games won, over 84 games from Seattle. The funny thing is t

Nike unveils sports shoes for Natives?
2007-09-26 11:22:00
Nike released the Nike Air Native N7, the first set of shoes designed for Native Americans I’m usually more like the type of guy who likes to sit on his comfy couch and watch others sweat their shirts off running around the courts and fields. But for those who actually like being an active part of sports (I consider sports betting as being an active part, but, nevermind), this announcement probably left them with a big question mark over their heads.   Photo: Indianz.com It seems Nike has been working with the Native American community for quite a while to develop this new product. They also say all the profits from the N7 shoes will go to programs dedicated to promote a healthy life for Native Americans.  This looks like an awesome program to help, but… what on Earth could they have been thinking? I know they discovered that Native American’s feet are wider and all that stuff, but the whole idea is just weird. And there is the other think that just doesn’t make sens

Mike Gundy: Defense or Over-Protection?
2007-09-25 12:51:16
This has been going on for days and the fire hasn’t been put out yet. After journalist Jenni Carlson decided to criticize Oklahoma State player Bobby Reid on her column, OSU head coach Mike Gundy couldn’t help but burst in flames, attacking the Daily Oklahoman columnist for bringing up the subject of Reid’s attitude. Was he right to do that? It was certainly a bomb that many readers received last Saturday, with Jenni Carlson’s “Reid is still the most talented signal-caller, but attitude is reason for change” headline. The article judged Reid as being “babied” by his mom, and ended up stating that the Quarterback seems to lack some character, seems to be a nervous guy and doesn’t like to compete fiercely to be the best NCAA player. “Does he have the fire in his belly? Or does he want to be coddled, babied, perhaps even fed chicken?”, said Carlson, trying to make fun of the fact that the guy was being fed chicken by his mom on one of the College Football games. She

NFL Football and Auto Racing Review
2007-09-24 12:00:22
If you missed the action yesterday (how dared you!), then you should stick around because there is a lot to talk about. Sunday was really impressive for all Football betting fans, since their old QB stars revived in a way nobody expected. Names like Brett Favre and Donovan McNabb were placed really high with the outstanding plays they offered. Favre threw 3 TD passes to Dan Marino, contributing to the smashing victory achieved by the Green Bay Packers over the Chargers with a solid 31-24. The Packers are now 3-0, taking the lead on their Division. Brett Favre, the old Green Bay hero, seems to be trying to tell the world he’s not ready for retirement yet. Still, we will have to say this could be just a lucky day, since he looks like he lost his spark a long time ago. He’s not the best figure to consider when placing NFL bets. This was also a good day for Philly, since the Philadelphia Eagles were more than clear on their statement: The Lions are like frightened kittens to them. The

UEFA Champions League is back
2007-09-20 12:01:25
For those who hadn’t noticed, we’ve got some good soccer games again. UEFA Champions League is back on track and that could only mean world-class soccer, I would dare to say the world’s best soccer games. Has anyone been watching? Yesterday we had great games with a lot of action for betting fans.  Barcelona and Lyon offered a very interesting match where the Spaniards ended up beating Lyon 3-0. All with the classic goal by this little guy Lionel Messi who just can’t miss games without showing off his talent, and also an unexpected over-time goal by Thierry Henry. Other winners from Matchday 1 (sept 18-19) were Roma (2-0 against Dynamo Kiev), Manchester U (1-0 against Sporting), Real Madrid (2-1 against Bremen), and Milan (2-1 against Benfica).      Photo: ESPN Now we just have to wait until the beginning of October to watch more high-quality soccer games, which have a lot of potential to place your bets on: Man U vs. Roma (Oct 2nd), Lazio vs Real Madrid (Oct 3rd), and B

Take your NFL Picks: Week 3 is hot
2007-09-19 11:14:44
Arrr!! Today’s the Talk like a Pirate Day! …… (Yeah, I really don’t understand those things but I just had to say it). Now, let’s get right to the good stuff: taking a look at NFL Schedules, we have very interesting games on Sunday for some NFL betting. Indianapolis Colts will face the Houston Texans at 1:00 PM ET (CBS). Even though the Texans are not usually Super Bowl material (or basically ANY championship material) both Houston and Indianapolis show a solid 2-0 in NFL scores so far, and we have to say the Texans have gotten their victories with a great difference. Now, that’s new!. The Houston team is probably very confused right now since they’ve never been in a good position like this one before. If they want to go for the 3-0, they will have to work very hard because the defending Champions are not easy to defeat. They will try to put a Great Wall around Peyton Manning to stop the Colts’ best values on the offense. Even though the usual favorite will be

Hail to the Redskins!
2007-09-18 11:00:17
Monday Night Football brought some surprise for many of the NFL Football fans watching (and especially the ones who were betting favorites). While almost everyone thought the Eagles were going to win so easily, the Washington Redskins turned it upside down and ended up with a 20-12 victory. We are talking about a very impressive result, especially considering that Philadelphia had home field advantage last night. Redskins QB Jason Campbell performed a great TD pass to Chris Cooley, one that will definitely be remembered. Another good thing, it seems that Campbell is aware of what he did wrong during the game and it could make us expect harder work, and better games. We could also notice how linebacker London Fletcher (who had 6 tackles) has come to make Washington’s defense stronger. This guy seems to have the rest of the guys pumped up and inspired. It was a wise choice to bring him from Buffalo. It’s obvious that the Redskins have worked a lot on third down and the Eagles ha

Tiger Stadium stuff for sale
2007-09-17 09:41:12
Do you miss the seats at Tiger Stadium when you watched the games years ago? Well, you can take them home now! Items salvaged from the Stadium are now for sale and bid. You can participate in auctions for all kinds of memorabilia, even the most nonsense souvenirs like a giant pretzels ad.  This is a great opportunity for true Detroit baseball fans. Now demolition seems to be closer, so it’s time to take advantage of whatever it is they can take. However, everybody might have to rush if they want to get something good out of it, especially the seats. Tiger Stadium den seats were sold out just 3 hours after they went up on sale. There are still some regular seats, but they are expected to run out by tomorrow. Auctions and items for sale can be found at www.tigerstadiumsale.com.  Photo: Tigerstadiumsale.com The Stadium that has been home of many historical moments like the 1941, 1951, and 1971 All-Star games has been reason for debate since it was decided the imminent demolition. College Football player killed at U. of Memphis
2007-10-01 09:19:10
Tragedy keeps surrounding every College campus, and now it has moved to the football athletes. Last night University of Memphis defensive lineman Taylor Bradford was shot and killed at his apartment, and his death seems to be intentional.  Bradford, a 21-year-old football player from Nashville, had been transferred from Samford University after 2 seasons of playing there. He left a record of 4 games, 3 tackles and one TFL on 2005, and 13 tackles for 2004. After playing at Samford, he became a junior with the Tigers.  Taylor was apparently hanging out with his fraternity friends when he returned to his apartment to look for some keys. He was shot there, and it seems he got on his car, but couldn’t drive much. He was taken to Regional Medical Center, where he was officially pronounced dead.  Authorities decided to cancel all classes today just for precaution, but it seems it was rather a personal attack and not just a random act of violence.  Bradford will be greatly missed at his

10 things you never thought you’d see in sports
2007-10-12 11:09:29
Al Gore just won Nobel Peace Prize. Wow, now that is something I never imagined I would see! Seems like his Unconvenient Truth ended up in a very Convenient Award… So, thinking about this, I just set my 10 things nobody ever expected in sports… Or never thought they could actually happen.  1. Oscar de la Hoya wearing pink lingerie. (I know, it’s just probably a good Photoshop work but still…. Real or not, you can’t deny you were knocked out by those pics. Just something you never thought you would see…. and never wanted to see)  2. A Soccer player wearing pink nail polish (what’s with the pink stuff, by the way?)  3. Sports players and fans with violent incidents any maximum-security prisoner would brag about : Monica Seles getting stabbed in the 90s, Kobe Bryant facing rape charges, Mike Tyson convicted for rape and also beating his wife and biting off a piece of another boxer’s ear…  4. Football Cheerleaders playing porn stars instead of porn

Patriots vs. Cowboys: The ‘Brady Bunch’ meets Tony Romo
2007-10-11 11:54:33
On Sunday there is no doubt the Dallas Cowboys , current undefeated masters at NFC East, will be facing one of the toughest contenders: New England Patriots . Both are carrying a 5-0 record so far (something that’s happening to Dallas for the first time since 1983) and are really confident about their offensive power. Sure, the Patriots are not scared since they got a little star like Tom Brady . But Dallas is fully confident with their more-recent-star key QB Tony Romo. So, which of those could actually win this duel?  Well, let’s see. Brady is well-known as an effective QB since his draft pick on 2000. This California guy shows a total of 1383 Pass Yds, 16 TDs and a rating of 128.7. He also has 2 MVP awards, has led their team to Super Bowl Championships a couple of times, named Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated on 2005 and all kinds of flattering stuff like that (not mentioning he’s dating top model Giselle Bündchen, I think that’s flattering enough). Definitely not

BPH Sports Forum: Don’t just read sports. TALK sports
2007-10-10 11:37:54
When you are a real sports fan (or sports betting fan) you always like to face your favorite sports team’s coach (at least on the TV) and tell him what to do… because you know better, of course!. We always have something to say, something to add or someone to judge. That’s what forums are about: debating your former self-thoughts with other people who’re just as angry and fanatic and close-minded. Sounds like fun, huh?  BookPerHead.com just released a new Sports Forum : The Bookie Corner, so everyone can jump right in and start posting around. The good thing is, when it comes to sports there’s ALWAYS something to talk about: Baseball, Basketball, NFL…. And of course all those things you can just post out of the blue. BookPerHead wants to complete the options for a community of bookies, bettors and just random guys (and gals) who love sports and want to get the best out of it: Good website, news and articles, and a place to talk about all that, the good and  the

NY Yankees blew it … Again
2007-10-09 12:10:06
Monday Night was enough to make it final: the Yankees fell against the Indians on almost all 4 games, ending their MLB season with no glory at all.  We all knew New York wasn’t exactly on its best time (it’s not like nobody saw that coming), but just being able to pull a 1-3 goes beyond mediocrity. Cleveland beat them up 6-4 last night just in case somebody had any doubts about who actually deserved to move to ALCS. The Indians just earned that pass that didn’t have the chance to enjoy since 1998.  So, what’s wrong with the former-almighty Yankees? Some think their problem has a name: Joe Torre. Many people say Torre has led the team to consecutive desasters, over and over. Now many heads turn to his own head, probably thinking the time has come to cut it off. The thing is, maybe it wasn’t all the guy’s fault, but he definitely failed in making clear and wise decisions to take the team back on track.  One thing is for sure: The ‘Dynasty’ title the Yankees used to

Packers vs. Bears: What happened to Green Bay?
2007-10-08 10:51:13
The known long-time rivalry between Bears and Packers took place again on Sunday, where Green Bay was defeated at home 27-20 by their arch-enemies. It was a very interesting game to watch and, for the first time in quite a while, the Chicago Bears had the chance of actually feeling satisfied with their offensive strategy. Brian Griese did an amazing job replacing Rex Grossman. Some might say it was too simple, but it worked and in the end that’s what this is about.  For those who didn’t want to take the underdog, yesterday was probably a surprise and a waste of money. Looking at the NFL Standings, particularly in NFC North, you would’ve thought the leaders would crush Chicago since they’re 3rd. But the truth is that Green Bay lost their winning streak and, even if they’re not moving out of 1st place, it doesn’t mean they don’t have to work a lot more.  Still, we understand that many people just couldn’t see that coming. By halftime the Packers were leading the game wi

Marion Jones admitted using steroids: ‘The clear’ truth is out
2007-10-05 09:16:37
After all the sneaking from the questions everyone made about her possible use of steroids, athletic champion and gold-medal winner Marion Jones finally admitted being on those drugs during her successful performance in 2000 Sidney Olympics.  The Washington Post published the story where apparently Jones wrote a letter to his closest friends and family, admitting the charges on her and announcing she would be pleading guilty to lying to federal agents about it. She was taking the steroids known as “the clear”, produced by BALCO (the ones she once sued for defamation over the declarations that made her guilty of doping), from 1999 to 2001. Yes, this means she was high as a kite on steroids during her breath-taking Sidney Olympics campaign, where she got 5 medals, 3 of them gold.  Photo: AFP Should we feel fooled or deceived? Probably not: she’s still a reason to feel proud about our USA Athletics History. But definitely, once you know something like that you just feel like i

UEFA Champions League: Matchday 2 Recap
2007-10-04 11:36:09
Last Tuesday and Wednesday were full of accion for UEFA Champions League Soccer-loving fans. Some of the usual winners made their appearances, like Barcelona, Manchester United and Arsenal. Others surprised with their poor soccer game results like Liverpool.  On Tuesday (Oct. 2nd) Man U beat Roma 1-0 with a goal scored by Wayne Rooney. Although they didn’t repeat the 7-goal thrash they had given to Roma in April, it was still more than enough to win the match. Old Trafford ate the italian squad who had some good opportunities to give a reply to that goal, but didn’t really take them. However, Manchester lost one great midfielder temporarily, since Michael Carrick ended up badly injured and might be out of the field for up to 6 weeks.  On other fields, Germany was the home for a great game where Barcelona defeated VfB Stuttgart 0-2. Puyol, which was considered just a replacement, ended up putting it all together just before half-time to score. Too bad he was injured after a while.

Standings for Super Bowl previous winners
2007-10-03 10:51:48
When it comes to football betting, many people take a pick thinking about the last winning teams in Conference Championships, and especially in Super Bowl Championships. However, picking a good team goes beyond past championship titles. To back up a decision like that, we have to study how much they seem to have worked during the break and how that is being reflected in the results. Right now we have just 4 weeks of NFL Season. How are the winners of the past 5 NFL Super Bowl titles standing? (Oh, funny, they’re all leading their Divisions).  Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl XXXVII winners: 48-21 against Oakland Raiders Tampa Bay is currently leading NFC South. This team has 3 games in its pocket and just 1 match lost, their first Season game where they fell 6-20 facing Seattle Seahawks. After that, they beat New Orleans, St. Louis and Carolina with a great point difference. The Buccaneers seem to be growing and taking a good advantage. This NFL team looks strong on the net points ba
