Looking for Balance
2007-12-15 07:01:44
Reading The Middle Place has gotten me to think about “the middle place”. That place where everyone knows you are an adult; you know you are an adult but you try to forget that fact. You have a husband and child and your own new family yet you still need your parents’ approval. I wonder if you ever transcend or grow out of the middle place. Will there ever come a time when I won’t crave my parents’ approval and acceptance? The more I contemplate life’s transitions, the more I’m struck by the permanence of it all. When I was very young, I would pester my mom incessantly to watch me time and time again. As I grew older, I would strive for approval from Mom when it came to grades. And boys. And clothes. And just about anything that you can think of. Now that I have my own daughter, I can see that burgeoning need for approval. When she scribbles with a crayon or does something that I ask of her, her eyes light up and she waits for a beat to see if

Damn Sad Dog Video
2007-12-14 22:55:27
I found this on Dooce’s site and now I wish that I hadn’t watched it. Damn sad Japanese dog movie. Well, now you’re not going to watch it. Watch the video. It’s good. I promise. Just kind of disregard some of the English subtitles. I have a sneaking suspicion that some of the Japanese didn’t translate quite right.

It's Cleaning Time
2007-12-14 11:37:03
It’s cleaning time, kiddos. Kind of like “business time“, but not…that would really be a completely different type of post. Mom’s supposed to be here tomorrow or Sunday. [I can’t really remember] I know that she’s leaving for here early Saturday morning. I also know that the state of the apartment ain’t gonna cut it. Normally, I would have gone through my archives and found all of the times that I had referenced the apartment being a mess. Then, I would have linked “apartment ain’t gonna cut it” with five different posts. [A link per word…I have full faith that I have that many] But, today I don’t feel like it and honestly, would you go read them anyway? I’m not throwing stones. Really, I’m not. I just don’t see the point in spending a good deal of time on some pointless activity. [Well, this particular pointless activity anyway] So, yeah. Cleaning . Gotta do it. That is all. ***

Sick
2007-12-13 08:04:53
Man, oh man I feel like shit today. I woke up wanting to puke and have done so several times.  I don’t have a fever, but I seem to lack to ability to keep myself from thinking about food.  [Damn, I did it again while I was typing that!  And now that I’m typing this!  I give up.]  Everytime I think about any kind of food [damnit!] I want to puke. Feel sorry for me.  Please? I called Tucker and asked him to come home so that he can watch Cara cause it’s kind of hard to keep an eye on the precocious toddler when my head is buried in the toilet. Unfortunately, they’re having an inspection at work so I’m stuck by myself. This too shall pass.  Right?  If it won’t, tell me it will because this sucketh much. I’m going to go and attempt to melt into my couch and then not move. Wish me luck.

That Baby DVD and CD
2007-12-13 07:16:31
I grew up on a musical diet of The Beatles, Steeley Dan and Fleetwood Mac. Heck, my first concert was James Taylor when I was four. Tucker is as crazy about music as I am and we want to pass that love onto Cara. While I know that some parents swear by Baby Einstein DVDs, they kind of make me want to gouge out my eyes. If you feel the same way and are rather depressed over your choices when it comes to music DVDs for your kids, I’ve got a solution for ya: That Baby DVD and CD. Parent Bloggers sent me the set to review and I think I’m in love. Ok. Cara loves it too, but I’m the one who has to deal with it being on repeat. So, shouldn’t I get a say too? The first thing that made me take notice was the personalized letter that Rob sent me. [Bravo, Rob!] One point to That Baby DVD and CD. I’ve gotten letters with other things that I’ve reviewed, but they’ve never actually been addressed to me [usually “Dear Reviewer”] and they sure

House Hunting
2007-12-11 09:45:17
What do you think of our new house? I kid.  I kid. This isn’t our house.  Actually, it’s someone else’s house but it’s for sale.  How weird would it be to be surfing the internet and find a picture of your house on someone’s blog. Hi, house owners!  I like your house! *** OK.  Now that that is out of the way.  Random note.  I really hate writing “that that”.  It looks stupid.  But, I really can’t think of any other way to say that.  Damn you, that!  I’m better now. *** Our neighbors upstairs were a skoach quieter last night.  I only heard them once or twice and it was before 9 pm.  Everytime I see them, I want to ask when they’re moving out.  They haven’t seemed any more unpleasant that normal.  And even though my apartment manager said last week that she was giving them a 7 day notice, I have no idea if #1 she’s gonna do it and #2 when she did [or will do] it. *** I know I’ve bitched about the

Called the Police
2007-12-10 05:45:39
I sincerely feel a little bit bad, but I called the cops on my neighbors this morning at 12:45. OK. So maybe not the cops; I called the “community officer”. But, he’s a cop who gets to live here for free since he deals with petty bullshit calls like mine. Luckily, he didn’t come knocking on my door since I had finally managed to drift off to sleep. Back to the neighbors. I woke up at 12:30 am for no good reason; I was just wide awake. I went in to check on Cara and then I heard the people upstairs; I guess they’re what woke me up. One minute they would be running through their apartment. [over my head] The next, they would be tearing ass out of the apartment, slamming the door on their way out and running down the stairs. Rinse and repeat. After 10 minutes of it, I was through. I called the “community officer” and told him that they sounded like a bunch of 300lb five year olds and asked if he could please come and knock their heads together.

Betting Against the House
2007-12-09 10:13:36
This is one of those days were I make bets with myself as to what Cara will be doing next. Every time I go to the bathroom, or the kitchen, or hell, just leave her general vicinity, I think to myself “five bucks says she’s [insert outrageous thing here]”. Amazingly enough, almost every time thus far, I’ve been wrong. I went to pee and figured that she would make a bee line for the computer’s mouse. Wrong. She climbed up on the coffee table. I threw some clothes in the washing machine and came back.  This time I was betting on the bookcase. Nope. She was standing on her highchair’s tray. Fun times, folks.  Fun times. *** It’s nap time right now at the Crazy house.  [SWEET!!!]  You can’t hear my squeals of joy, but trust me when I say that they are loud and obscenely high pitched. I would love to take a nap myself, but Tucker’s supposed to be home from work in a couple of minutes so I know that I would have 10 minutes to nap at th

Sitting On Our Hands
2008-03-10 12:59:50
I did not realize that I haven’t posted in four days. I knew that it had been a few days…but four days seems a bit pathetic doesn’t it? I’ll just blame it on Tucker and Call of Duty 4. We’re currently in a moving “holding pattern”. The packers come to pack us up tomorrow at like [...]

No title
2008-03-06 07:13:48
[You’ll understand the title once you watch the video.] There was a fire night before last in the closet that houses our internet hub so I’ve been without internet for a while. Good thing I warned you that posting would probably be light, huh. Now we have a MANDATORY inspection by the cable people and the maintenance people [...]

Dealing with Addiction
2008-03-04 10:25:38
Not mine. Tucker’s. My internet was disconnected this weekend and connected to Steve. You see, my husband discovered the wonders of online Call of Duty 4 and before I knew it, we were off to Target to buy a crappy Bluetooth headset so that he could talk smack to the other losers guys. Well, I guess that’s [...]

VBAC Hell!
2008-02-29 11:53:18
For those of you who don’t know, I had a section with Cara. She was 8 days postdate, tachycardic and had a major heart decel. So, I was induced. The induction failed [imagine that] and I stalled at 5 or 6 cm. The section was actually amazingly easy for me and I would have left [...]

Lunch and Anxiety
2008-02-27 09:31:05
You see that yummy sandwich to the left? Yeah. That’s what I’m eating for lunch today. I had an appointment with my shrink this morning but she had to cancel on me. I’m already showered and dressed and have makeup on and stuff so why waste it. My medical records are being held hostage by the Base right [...]

Desktop Roundup
2008-02-27 08:41:01
My boss at FPSRantings.com tagged me at IronicGamer.com to display my desktop. His theory is that you can tell a lot about people by looking at their desktops. So, I’ve decided to move the meme over here and see how many of you guys will play. I’m only going to tag two people because I usually really dislike [...]

Parenting Choices Guaranteed to Cause Guilt
2008-02-25 10:52:50
I’m a member of a couple of mommy message boards. For the most part, the people on these boards are supportive and fairly open minded. Can you believe that a group of women can actually remain civil when it comes to the topic of parenting? One thing that has become startling apparent to me in the past couple [...]

Dresses
2008-02-25 09:15:36
I had no intention of writing about maternity dresses when I woke up this morning. When I was pregnant with Cara, we lived 14-16 hours away from our extended families and because of that geographical convenience, I was excused from family get-togethers that would have required anything dressier than a cute maternity shirt and jeans. It looks [...]

Zygomatic Booboo
2008-02-23 14:39:09
Have you ever been headbutted by your kid? It hurts like hell! Then again, I’m assuming that getting headbutted by anyone would hurt but at least if it occurred during a bar brawl you’d have the benefit of liquid courage/liquid pain reliever. I didn’t have that last night. Cara was sitting on my lap and throwing [...]

I was hesitant to write anything about giving up Beck but it’s a big deal and was bound to “come out” eventually. We have considered “rehoming” Beck for a very long time…before I even became pregnant with Cara. Beck was abused before we got him and he has some “quirks”. When it was just Tucker and [...]

The Flood
2008-03-19 09:58:30
We moved from Jacksonville, FL on Saturday.  The temperature was in the 70’s and it was dry.  Actually, it had been dry for quite a while. Then we moved to NE Arkansas and it was COLD AS HELL…if hell were cold.  No big deal.  I’ve just been wearing the only long sleaved shirt that I packed [...]

We’re Here
2008-03-18 18:31:44
Testing. 1. 2. 3. Is this thing still on? Hi. My name is Amy and I’m a very bad blogger. If I were a real blogger then my moving 16 hours wouldn’t have kept me from posting the minute details of my life. But, since I don’t have a laptop [insert sob here] I wasn’t able to blog from [...]

Focus on the Strengths
2008-03-20 20:39:43
Comparing your child to your neighbor’s or friend’s kid is a nasty little oft ignored secret of being a parent. It is incredibly hard to discount the toddler who is counting to ten when your child is content to sit with his finger up his nose. Jenifer Fox, M. Ed. offers a way around this minefield of [...]

Doctor Hell and Grasshoppers

Have you ever been just so done with something that you don’t want to talk about it? Like the particular thing is so damn draining that just discussing it makes you tired? Yeah. That’s where I am right now. What really sucks is that I can’t talk about it here because the person that it’s about is [...]

Animal ABCs Saved My Trip
2008-03-25 09:05:05
Cara loves Barney. Cara loves animals. So, it stands to reason that Cara would love the two being put together with music. Personally, I ignore Barney. He’s a purple thorn in my side and he and I tolerate each other. But, Barney was like a big ole purple angel about a week ago. That’s when we drove 16 hours [...]

Upgrading Wordpress
2008-03-31 11:27:12
I seriously need someone to hold my hand. I’m considering upgrading my Wordpress since my damn site won’t let me forget that my current version is out of date.  Maybe that’s why I haven’t posted in so long; I’ve been avoiding my site’s scorn. Ok.  That’s not the real reason. The real reason is that my routine has [...]

And the House Hunting Begins
2008-04-02 13:01:43
Yesterday was spent almost entirely in Jonesboro. We left the in-laws’ house [where we’re currently living] around 9:30 and dropped the rugrat off at my mom’s house. Much fun was had by all, I am sure. We spent the next three hours at ASU trying to get Tucker enrolled back into classes and many hoops were [...]

We Might Have a House
2008-04-08 09:13:40
I am amazed at the state that some people leave a house when they move out. When Tucker and I left that piece of shit apartment in Florida, we spent a day cleaning the fucking place. It wasn’t that it was that bad, but there were things that we were used to that someone else [...]

Found an Apartment
2008-04-13 10:20:50
Just a FYI to everyone that we found an apartment and are in the process of moving. Because of this, I’m having to box up the ole computer and move it. So, until I get the bugger hooked back up and get some groovy internet, I’ll be offline. Shouldn’t be too long till things are up [...]

Moving In…Slowly
2008-04-17 13:52:49
I’m not sure what I’ve written about and what I haven’t and quite frankly, I’m too damn lazy to go back through my posts to figure it all out. [That’s my way of warning you that I might be repeating myself.] So I wrote about finding a house to buy. The house was damn [...]
