This was taken Monday night when we evacuated to La Jolla to avoid the San Diego fires. Obviously the smoke is lousy to breathe, but great for the sunset. This was taken slightly south of the cove.

I grew these kangaroo paws from seed. They’re now much taller than I am, and tonight’s sunset was a great backdrop for them.

This was a simple but beautiful sunset at Arcadia Beach, which is an often unappreciated beach along the Oregon Coast… then again, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, because it keeps the traffic down and the simple peace of such a place intact.
This image of the previously-dubbed Owen’s Rock was taken with my digital Nikon. Though my digital is slowing dying, I still find situations that are right to use it in. For this image I was experiementing with slower shutter speeds, trying to get the motion of the waves washing upshore. A fairly simple experiment, but to even get this much motion in the waves I had to use my GND filter and polarizer just to darken the scene enough to use a slow shutter speed.
Anyway. Another beautiful night on the Oregon Coast.

Work has kept me all too busy at the congested and unpleasant end of the country for the last week; no time for photography.
More in hope than expectation I set out this morning. The sky didn’t light up like I’d hoped for all that the signs were good.
For the interested, I’m doing a presentation on long exposure photography at the EPS this Monday.

The infamous abandoned Tyersall House (also known as Istana Woodneuk), Singapore.
For the little history, this house was first built in 1854, and was known as “Tyersall House”. In 1860, a Malay sultan took over the property and the house was demolished. The new house, Istana Woodneuk (”istana” means “palace” in Malay) was built in 1890 and completed 2 years later. In 1905, it was badly burnt because of faulty electrical wiring. This house has been abandoned since 1907.
Technical Note: 5exp tonemapped HDR with Photomatix, followed by post processing with Photoshop (filters, curves, levels, dodging, burning). See below for the original EV0 exposure. Please note that the HDR is composed of 5 exposures.
