Even the Brain knows I’m NINJA!
2007-09-02 06:17:22
I was playing Likebetter on the games page a couple days ago, and this was the first thing the Brain guessed it knew about me:      Even the Brain knows I’m ninja! Hell yeah! It’s officially undeniable now! No longer can my my friends, family, beggars on the street, or anyone else tell me I’m not a ninja anymore. The Brain said I was, and the Brain is never wrong! Never! Need more exclamation points? Well here ya go!!!!!!!!!!      The game is pretty amazing, getting a lot of things right about my personality, my likes, dislikes, etc., and rarely getting one wrong. Either the people at Pairwise who made the game are very good at knowing personality traits, or I’m more transparent then lingerie on some semi-naked pop star. Bad jokes! ROXORS!      So, now that my secret’s out, I want you to play Likebetter and post a comment on what it gets

Alex Loses His Job… Time to DANCE!
2007-08-20 18:49:51
I lost my job this morning…and I’m STOKED! ♫ Celebrate good times come on! ♫      Losing a job is sweet when the job isn’t that great…or downright sucks. There’s a key word in that sentence there. Actually, it’s one of my favorite acronyms. J.O.B. - just over broke. Sorry, I don’t mean to start badmouthing jobs here (actually I do, let’s just hope that there aren’t any potential employers reading this), but I had to say that.      This isn’t to say that there aren’t “good” jobs out there to be obtained, there are, however they are rare. I tend to think that the definition of what a job is prevents it from receiving a high status of awesomeness. Here’s the definition from my Oxford American Dictionary on my computer: job - noun - a paid position of regular employment      That’s a good definition to me o

Two Persons Closer: An Introduction
2007-08-05 17:31:47
There’s always something rewarding about completing a goal you’ve had for yourself. It doesn’t matter how small or seemingly insignificant, the gratification is there. This web site is one such goal I’ve had for quite some time now, and as I write these first words (even as the web site is still under construction), I feel more accomplished than I have in awhile. I think it’s because I have brought two persons closer, the person I am and the person I am hoping to become.      Everyone has or should have goals for themselves, things they hope and strive to achieve. They give us a sense of purpose, meaning, and fulfillment. Sometimes I imagine who I’d like to be in the future, and how I’d like my future self to be. Broadly, I see my future self as having a career he loves, happily married, and with great kids. I also want to see myself as an accomplished artist, writer, and designer w

Are you anybody’s favorite person?
2007-09-26 00:30:14
I was recently watching a video on YouTube last night that has sparked some interesting questions and responses from people, and I had to write about it because I find it interesting and I hope you will as well. The film centers around a single, yet startling question, “Are you anybody’s favorite person ?” If you have trouble viewing the video click here      The film, based of off a Miranda July story, contains subtle satire, that shows that our point of view has a lot to do with how we acknowledge ourselves and how we think people acknowledge us. The woman for example was certain that she was her ex-girlfriend’s favorite person, which seems ironic and contradictory. Why would she be the favorite person of an ex-friend? However, when asked how sure she was of the question, she lost confidence, and seemed to grow closer to the actual truth.      When the guy jogging

Fred Seibert Left A Comment!
2007-09-23 00:30:35
Fred Seibert, the creator of Channel Frederator posted a comment today on the Tribute to the Internet People (Part 2) post! That is awesome! I’m privileged that Fred took the time to comment on the post. Here is some info about the life of Fred Seibert:      Seibert was born in 1951 and has worked as a television and movie producer who has worked for such companies as MTV Networks, Hanna-Barbera, Nickelodeon, VH1, Cartoon Network, and has co-founded animation production company Frederator Studios.      As MTV’s first creative director in 1981, Seibert was responsible for creating the animated MTV logo shorts that have made MTV famous. The Jena 6: The 10 Reasons The Fit Hit The Shan
2007-09-22 00:55:22
This post references information from the Wikipedia Jena 6 page.      Yesterday, September 20th an estimated 60,000 people rallied in Jena, Louisiana to protest the sentencing of six African American teenagers referred to in the media as the “Jena 6″. The group of young men were accused of various charges from assault to attempted second-degree murder for the beating of Justin Barker, a fellow student who attended Jena High School with them. The beating followed a rash of racially charged incidents that could have been avoided, and I wonder, what else could have possibly gone wrong in Jena? Here are the 10 reasons why the last year at Jena was a complete cluster fuckapalooza*. *cluster fuckapalooza military use: a situation where nothing will go right, casualties will occur, evac will not happen, often engineered by the stupid. - by the urbandictionary Come on, it was the best phrase I could find. 1. Tribute to the Internet People (Part 2)
2007-09-19 00:55:54
Hello my E-lovers, here is the second half of the list of viraled internet videos from Dan Meth’s “Internet People” animation. The videos are in the order they’re mentioned in his song, going from top to bottom, left to right. I really love these videos, and it’s not a surprise why most of them have been viraled out so much.      I’m also a huge fan of Dan Meth’s animations, and he recently put together a compilation video on Channel Frederator called Methapalooza featuring his animations including “Internet People”. My favorite is “Shake That Ass”. I saw it almost a year ago, and it stll cracks me up. Here is his compilation video followed by the list: If you have trouble viewing the video click here The Internet People 2 All Your Base Original Video Coke & Mentos Original Video Coke Rocket Video OK Go Here It Goes Again Do What You

Tribute to the Internet People (Part 1)
2007-09-18 00:55:12
In the ongoing quest for awesomeness on the net, I have found the Channel Frederator video created by animator Dan Meth called “Internet People!” dedicated to the internet people who make our lives online more enjoyable, by the weird, crazy, stupid, funny, and awesome shenanigan’s they do. I’m sure you’ll recognize some of these internet stars, and if you don’t recognize at least five of them the first time you see the vid, you just aren’t human, but some strange alien cyborg half-breed come to steal our earth women. I’m not going put up with no intergalactic kidnapping, so I’m going to have to terminate you (or at least severely maim you). Urban Ninjas like their urban woman. Fo sho…      But, I’ve taken it a step further! Yes, the post would be fine with just the video, but I’ve also provided you with the original videos/sites that the “Internet

There are still no flying cars, teleportation devices, or virtual reality porn chambers, but the world remains hopeful. Things seem to be continually advancing as they always have, and you wonder what you are missing. There must be some point or inner reason why I told you to imagine about the future right?      So you do what any rational human being would do and head to the nearest library computer to ask the almighty and omniscient Google for help. You type in the address and hit enter, but wonder of all wonders, nothing comes up but a blank screen and this message: Yo, you’re trying to access the awesomeness of Google from a library. Photo Shoot at the Tracks: Part 2
2007-09-13 09:46:21
Hey again people. Sorry I haven’t updated in a few days. I wanted to make sure I got this post up before I left this morning (I have a couple job interviews today). Hopefully after today I’ll be posting entries on the site more frequently, every couple days or so, because I know I’ve been slacking.      Anyway, here is the second part of the photo shoot at the train tracks in downtown Denver. The video quality is kind of choppy; YouTube didn’t like this video much because of the car scene.      YouTube Tip #1,984: When uploading videos, you’ll get much better quality if you limit the amount of movement in the video. The more movement equals a more detailed video, and thus a much larger file to deal with. So, if you take video in a moving car (like what I did), don’t expect stellar results: If you have trouble viewing the video, click here Share This

Photo Shoot at the Tracks: Part 1
2007-09-09 20:25:07
Hello people. Last week I went on a photo shoot to the train tracks in downtown Denver with my cohorts Vega and Natja, and brought my camera along so I could film the action. This video is a good example (actually, they all are) of how I need to improve my camera skills. Here’s a math lesson for ya: Alex’s lack of camera skillz + barely working camcorder = Pure unadulterated AWESOMENESS!      Okay, so maybe I failed math in school, but you get the point. 2007-10-01 09:00:43
After realizing too late that I should have added this to the September Update post, I decided to make a separate post informing you that I’m a huge fan of Halloween and like to celebrate it as much as possible.      Although I’ve been forced to stop Trick-Or-Treating by law because I’m too old/big, and can no longer grift Halloween treats from my little brother, I still celebrate by watching horror movies.      I want to celebrate Halloween on my site, so what better way than showing some classic horror movies this month!?! Each Wednesday this month I’m going to show a different classic horror movie. Here are the dates and what movies I am going to show for each: October 3rd, 2007: Tarantula October 10th, 2007: Nosferatu October 17th, 2007: The Haunting October 24th, 2007: Psycho October 31th, 2007: Night of the Living Dead Be sure to stop by and check out each of these awesom

September Update
2007-10-01 00:55:50
Now that September is over I wanted to recap on how things went on the site compared to August. My ultimate goal for alexlandis.com is to continually improve the site by increasing the amount of traffic, the quality of my content, and the overall rank of my site on the net. As long as I make an improvement, no matter how small, I have succeeded.      With that in mind, I am very happy with how September turned out. Traffic increased 48% since August, which I think is great! I managed to post 12 entries (including this one), compared to the 4 I wrote in August. I would like to be writing between 15-20 a month, but I think we’re on the right track so far.      The site’s ranking in Alexa has done well in my opinion, jumping from 5,625,066 at the beginning of the month, to 3,294,869. I estimate that by next month that the site’s rank should be somewhere around 1,000,000. It’s n

Diana DeGette’s Email
2007-09-30 00:55:41
After writing, “Cyber Bias: The Threat of a Two-Tiered Internet” I sent a message to our congress from Save The Internet.com informing them of the threat to the net neutrality principle that many ISP’s are wanting to impose, and I received an email from Colorado’s congresswoman Diana DeGette responding to my message. This is what she had to say: ————————— Dear Friend :      Knowing of your interest in net neutrality, I would like to provide you with a brief update of recent events in Congress.      As you may know, I serve on the Energy and Commerce Committee which has jurisdiction over telecommunications matters. Last year in committee, I voted for an amendment to H.R. 5252 , the “Communications Opportunity, Promotion, and Enhancement Act”, which would have preserved net neutrality. Unfortunately, this am

One Man’s Goal - A Journey of Success
2007-10-07 07:42:10
Is it possible to make a living from running a web site in a year with no prior experience working with web sites? Bryan Clark has no doubt about it as he has made this his goal with his site OneMansGoal.com.      Clark, a 25 year old self-proclaimed serial entrepreneur, started OneMansGoal.com on June 28, 2007, and in under 4 months, it is clear that he is very determined in reaching his goal. Writing daily about different methods bloggers/webmasters can use to monetize and network their sites, Clark continually provides useful information on his site that I enjoy reading about frequently. When he’s not telling us of a new way to help improve our success, he lets us know of his own success with reaching his year goal, another reason I enjoy visiting his site.      It’s clear from his monthly updates, that Clark is well on his way to earning a sizable income from the methods he discus

AlexLandis.com is in shambles!
2007-10-26 02:17:11
Hey peeps,           I wanted to let you know that I haven’t died, and wanted to apologize for the last couple weeks of nothingness on the site. There are a few reasons why things have slowed down (Excuses! Sweet!).           I started a new job at the end of September which has consumed my time. The job was temporary, and has since ended, so I have a little more time to straighten things out on the site. I’ve also been doing a lot of filming the last couple weeks, and have several videos I plan on putting up once they’re edited.           Those two things together have messed me up with working on the site, but I will get things back to normal soon. Other than that, I have some bad news…..           Some of the horror movies I wanted to show on the si

Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror
2007-10-03 13:50:19
Nosferatu is the first film adaptation based off of Bram Stoker’s famous novel, Dracula. Released in 1922, this silent film has become a staple in horror film and is a must see for any horror film lover. Because the film was an unauthorized adaptation of Dracula, the characters names were changed so “Count Dracula” became “Count Orlok”, and “vampire” became “Nosferatu”.           Two versions of Nosferatu are provided for you to watch. The first is the most popular version available online, with the names of the characters and dialogue changed to match Dracula. The second version maintains the original names of the characters, has a different musical score, and tinted scenes. Both are excellent to watch and can be downloaded with the links provided below. After watching the movie, commen

October 2007 Update
2007-11-01 14:58:33
For the month of October , AlexLandis.com experienced a few problems. The main problem the site experienced was my lack of time being able to work on it. I started a new job and was filming every weekend in the month, which really cut into my time. I am going to make a serious effort to prevent that in November.           Also, I started receiving comment and email spam last month that I had to deal with. I have added measures to prevent spam on the site, and there hasn’t been any spam since, which is good.           Despite the lack of time I had, the site still continued to do well. Site traffic increased 16% from September and the Alexa rank increased from 3,294,869 to 2,431,655. As long as the site improves each month, I am happy.           Next month I ex

I Know What I Was for Halloween!
2007-11-02 02:22:25
Here are some pics of me in costume shortly before I went to a Halloween party. I wasn’t going as anyone in particular, and I looked like a combination of the Phantom of the Opera, the Grim Reaper, and Zorro. Naturally, I thought I looked pretty badass!           I discovered recently however that my costume looked a lot like a villain in the Trick r’ Treat horror movie preview on the 300 DVD. This character plays some sort of masked vampire…not too shabby. Unfortunately, even though this movie was scheduled for and October ‘07 release, it has been pushed back till sometime next year.           I’ll keep a look out for this movie, I’m curious to see myself in action. MUAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, I’m a dork. Get over it.
