Hot Bali Trip
2007-10-06 19:52:01
I’m back from my hot trip to Bali. Hot as in sweltering hot. The sceneries were great from my resort in Ritz Carlton. The beach in Kuta, where I was staying in Hard Rock Hotel, was beautiful and the places of interests were taking us for big fat carrots. Other than being carrots, the people were very friendly because we were fat carrots. Until now, they are still struggling to recover from the aftermath of the Bali bombing from the early 2000s. While the guides were very good in their knowledge of the places we visited, one of them was thick-skinned in asking for donations. I had checked the weather for October in Bali and it was supposed to be rainy season. Thankfully, it didn’t rain but it was a lot hotter there than in Singapore. Bathing twice a day is a must. For now, my hot trip is over. © WishBoNe for A Mind of My Own, 2007. | Permalink | 2 comments This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 License. Want

Sweeping Them Away
2007-10-18 02:06:11
It was is known that when a certain actor’s movie or drama is shown on TV, the prices of the stock market will plummet. To think I always thought my father was superstitious. Apparently, my colleagues’ lunch jokes have turned true and they have sold their stocks earlier upon learning that the drama series would be shown starting today. Looks like the U.S. oil prices have started the bear run. © WishBoNe for A Mind of My Own, 2007. | Permalink | 2 comments This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 License. Is It My Money Or Yours?
2007-10-17 04:37:20
I think my life is wonderful. First, the rating for freedom online is good, standing at 141 out of 169 countries, this is wonderful. Don’t you know that big numbers are the norm here? Oh, we shouldn’t be too bothered by it too. Now, our CPF Ordinary accounts will be getting a boost from 2.5% interest rate to 4%. WOOT! No, wait, sorry, I got confused. There’s some sort of complex formula to be taken into account which I hope the sexy Math Tutor Miss Loi would be able to explain to me. Oh yeah, it’s no longer my hard-earned money that I’ve placed. Oh, what joy. Oh, before I forget, there’s also this restriction on what age I can withdraw my money from there too. What about my plans for buying my own flat? What if the place I’m supposed to share with is simply not big enough? With the current rules and regulations being changed, am I still eligible for that flat? Maybe I should get a robot for a husband if they do have one instead of mistress. Tha

Blog Action Day Round Ups
2007-10-15 21:05:26
I guess it’s time to start rounding up the posts for Blog Action Day. While some countries may still be 15 Oct, I’m going to link to those who have done their posts on how to be more environmental friendly. Here, Littler Inch has done the round ups for food and baby related posts. Even diapers are included. I know my mother recycles diapers in her own way in the past. I think Bhalababy is using the same method. Lifehacker shows us how to live our lives greener, includes baby diapers too. Maybe I should consider using Latte’s poop as fertiliser for the plants. Pick The Brain has two simple rules which I’m sure we would be able to achieve once we put our minds to it. A video at Environmental Nightmares shows how protecting the environment protects our children. More information on nuclear related information can be found there too. Cash Money Life provides tips on green energy for home use. I like the idea of using solar panels. I just don’t understand why t

You Like This Top, Try?
2007-10-15 01:20:22
I met up with a my lover friend last night. Being girls, WL and I decided to browse through the shop, Bega. I knew the service standard there. It was the usual “Hi, this top nice, try?” or the “These have different colours, try?”. That I could still tolerate if it were once or twice but not every time we turned to another rack and that was more than 6 times! OMG! Which part of “Thanks, we’re just looking.” and “No thanks, we’re looking around.” did she not understand? Was our Mandarin not good enough or was the part “just looking around” not in her dictionary? And, no, I absolutely hate the top that you brought out for me to try. It looks absolutely hideous. Another case of too aggressive. Like the scary lady/aunty who refused to let go of my arm in Bali. We left the shop after the nth time. © WishBoNe for A Mind of My Own, 2007. | Permalink | No comment This work is licensed under a

Blog Action Day - Green Transport
2007-10-14 22:28:12
Today is Blog Action Day. Have you joined? We have to take the transport everyday. For those of us without cars, we have to take the public transport like train, bus or taxi. Ever thought of the fumes that are coming out from the exhaust pipes? Here, 21st Century Citizen has a way to recycle those fumes. Environmental Defense has provided ways to make your cars green. For example, you can use these ways to drive smartly like packing ligh, driving slow (reduce car accidents and traffic jams too) and reducing idling time. Cars that have reached their useful lives limits are often taken out of service. However, are they being disposed of by the Auto Shredder Residue (ASR) method? This report tells us why fuel management is necessary. We are using too much and how long can the fuel last? One way to encourage less cars to reduce fuel consumption is to organise “Car Free Day” or “Green Transport Day”, however, the campaign still fell flat. Do you have any ideas on how

Is Adam Cheng so Powerful to Affect the Market?
2007-10-21 22:15:27
Here’s a news update on the Adam Cheng Effect or Ding Hai Effect. The bears are now in the race. BBC is reporting the credit fears that is affecting the famous Dow Jones and share falls prediction for Monday. What this actor’s name in Chinese is Zheng Shao Qiu (郑少秋) or by pronouncing the same name in Hokkien with a slight pitch change, it means broom. Hence, my previous post on Sweeping Them Away. He did act as the villian in The Greed of Man which is TV drama. This series was based on the stock market. Interestingly, the effect started in 1990s, he started his acting career in 1970s. Perhaps, 1990s was him in starring roles? However, in 1987, the stock market crashed and his new series is being shown now. The crash was during this period too. Ultimately, I’m wondering if his appearance in TV series does affect the stock market adversely. They seem to either coincide with the fall or he has a very good name to begin with. Or maybe he should have stuck to his or

Masi Oka in Times Square
2007-10-21 20:11:52
Here’s a short video of Masi Oka (as Hiro Nakaruma) from TV drama series Heroes helping a tourist to take a photograph in Times Square . Haven’t managed to catch all the episodes from this series. This video is shot by BuckShotWon, a.k.a. Adrian. This Adrian could be Adrian Pasdar the actor from Heroes. If it is, then “YATA!” as Hiro would have shouted. Win a Special Monopoly Edition
2007-10-21 03:34:29
I used to play Monopoly with my siblings. Even my mother would join in sometimes. She was the one who picked up the standard sized board that was no longer wanted by the previous owner. We didn’t have to spend a cent. Now, Discount Codes is giving away 5 limited edition of the Monopoly and you can win one too! They have affiliates with various companies and they even allow you to rate the discounts given. I haven’t seen any sites that will even allow you to do that. To get the discounts, just use the promo codes that they have and you will get them. What to do When You Meet a Pervert Flasher
2007-10-25 20:25:33
Having met a wanker / flasher / pervert, I wanted to know on how to get help in such a situation. While I’ll never know why such people need sexual reprieve from showing off their willies / penis / wee wee in public, I know that they’ll never stop. One of the ways is to take a photo of that guy. Holla Back New York! accepts submissions of encounters and the photos of the culprits via email. One can rest assured that this doesn’t just happen in Singapore. I regret that there wasn’t enough time to snap one of the pervert I met. Here’s what you can do when you meet a pervert. Most non-violent offenders are seeking sexual kicks by upsetting or shocking you rather than physically harming you. Men who rub against women in crowds should be dealt with forcefully and with strong eye contact. Say in a firm voice: “Don’t touch me again, or I’ll call the police.” Discourage men who expose themselves by ignoring them, moving away or being coolly disparagi

I Saw A Flasher
2007-10-24 11:56:24
I had a long day. Went swimming with DD and a full dinner to replace what was lost in Swensons. What a waste of the exercise. It was already quite late when I saw a dick. An erection. Obviously, this guy had been masturbating and wanted an audience. I must install some camera to take photographs automatically without me having to lift a finger. Unfortunately, DD was too tired after today’s workout, he could have given the guy a punch of a lifetime if he were with me. This guy ran away when my father and I got close to him during our search. What I didn’t do was to catch up to them and screamed “MOLEST!”. Too tired after the swim and half ran, half brisk walked towards that Indian-ish looking guy. After the chase, DD advised me to make a police report. Well, my dad went with me and we spent 35 minutes there. Will have to do a photo-fit when the artist is available. I sure hope to remember his face. I shall describe him here just in case anyone meet him. Build: Sl

Spousal Rape is Not a Crime Here
2007-10-23 00:30:33
Now that the repeal for Section 377A has failed, that brings us to the Marital Immunity Law. Here, Aaron brings out that there is a law that allows a man to rape his wife and she cannot do anything about it. This only confirms that justice is blind. Spousal Rape in Wikipedia shows a map where such an act is criminalised. A map is included and no surprise, Singapore is not in it. There was a change in the law last year and it was to make Singapore a more open and compassionate society. Ah, so there it is. Open to spousal rape, I see. So, have more sex and force it even if she refuses because she has to fufil wifely duties. Maybe in order to wake up, a wife must die due to kidnapping, battering and rape so that the law will be re-written. For further understanding on marital rape in simple terms, Singapore Law Review has written an article on it. © WishBoNe for A Mind of My Own, 2007. | Permalink | No comment This work is licensed under a Creative Commons A

Pay More to Eat More Noodles
2007-10-29 02:56:57
Prices are rising and this time it’s noodles. It’s a never ending cycle. Goes to show how dependent we are on the world, no? It also looks like we are progressing to a stage where we eat faster than what the earth can grow. Wheat shortage leads to flour shortage and that further leads to rice and noodles shortage. I guess the price will never fall except in stock markets. Fuel prices soar leading to petrol price hikes. The calculation for the price of petrol can be complicated because different credit cards give discounts of up to 5% in addition to the station’s different discounts from 3% - 10% for the different premium petrol. I think this has slightly killed my pinning for a private car for now. It’s still relatively safe to take the public transport while it isn’t in some countries. Maybe we are bluffing ourselves with certain pay raises for some people. Interestingly, KL was warned not to raise the price of bread and flour. Here? It’s going to r

I Have to Be One of You Then I can be Your Friend?
2007-10-28 21:03:50
During lunch one day last week, my colleagues were talking about religion. This topic came about because of food. Beef is not eaten by those who pray to the Goddess of Mercy. Pork is not eaten by Muslims. Vegetarians don’t eat any meat. Religion is quite a sensitive topic and I don’t wish to promote any prejudice. I just wish to understand why some parents are adamant about raising their Christian children as “Child of God” by baptising them at an early age. While it’s the responsibilities of the parents to ensure that their children grow up well-mannered, polite, respectful and famous for some, I haven’t seen any who claim to be one to be not insulting. I once met this young lady who was insistent that I listen to her talk on her religion, no prizes for guessing which religion. My attempts at walking away failed as I didn’t have practice on how to avoid talking to strangers who want your attention and persistent in getting it. I had to let her

Family Day at Sentosa
2007-11-03 20:37:13
Ah, Family Day. What a wonderful day to spend with your family, no? The Sentosa is always a favourite place to hold Family Days by companies. They have balloons, telematches, lucky draws, beach, sea, dogs, babes in bikinis and hunks in shorts (don’t they ever wear their sexy swimming trunks?). I went to Sentosa with DD. His company had organised a Family Day there. I was hoping for something more worthy than just an umbrella for the goodie bag. Unfortunately, there was only an umbrella. What?! Not even a beach mat? I wished I had borrowed my sister’s instead. Note to self, remember to bring the one-man tent too. While DD didn’t win the lucky draw, I was getting sunburnt under the shade of the coconut trees. Note to self, coconut trees are just coconut trees, either they drop coconuts on your head or they just sway with the wind. There were dogs, mostly, white. Now I know that white furry dogs are the in thing. One particular dog was very kaypo curious and definitely a

Review: Siam Kitchen at Jurong Point
2007-11-01 09:46:15
I went to Siam Kitchen for dinner. I had a nice experience in Great World City and expected the same at Jurong Point. Sadly,  no. First, they served the wrong food. We ordered kway teow and noodles but not rice. I wonder whose rice was it. After that, the glass noodle arrived. One was supposed to be seafood, the other, vegetarian. They served both vegetarian. They should be grateful that my friend is not one to kick a huge fuss and demanded a refund. They even served the vegetables with prawns when we had specifically stated vegetarian. I was starting to wonder what exactly was wrong in the order form. There was also prata served to us when we didn’t even order it. When we finally called for the bill, there was a delay. Then they explained about a wrong printing. I’m seriously starting to wonder what was wrong with this branch. © WishBoNe for A Mind of My Own, 2007. | Permalink | No comment This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attri

3 Shameless Louts on Video
2007-10-31 03:56:17
This video has instigated quite a huge number of comments ranging from supporters of the 3 louts to pitying the old man. Some have even voiced their concerns and wanted to help the old man. When DK first posted these ugly foreigners laughing at the “slowest taxi in South East Asia”, Miss Loi corrected the title to “Three Slowest Brains from Europe”. The original video has been removed and a certain Mr B0Davis was pinpointed as one of the brains in the video. I wonder how true it is but then again, online CSI-ers have usually managed to point out the culprit. After reading the comments, I found myself getting angry at those arse holes. However, before posting anything online, one has to calm down because anything that gets online, stays online. My comments on the whole issue. The old man was doing his job and didn’t complain about the load. It’s his job and most people at his age often don’t complain despite being challenged. The load laughed

Do Bullies Drive People to Kill?
2007-11-09 01:06:13
Looks like a violent day. A teen shot dead 9 people in a school in Finland, including a principal and a nurse. He had bought a gun on Oct 29 and planned his attack. While such violence is rare in Finland despite its highest number of gun owners, it shocked the nation that a bullied teen went to such lengths on a killing spree. After the Columbian and V Tech shooting spree, this seem to indicate that teens who feel like they have are outcasts will go on a shooting spree. They will finally get themselves killed or commit suicide. In Japan, bullied school children commit suicide either in a group or alone. Goes to show that bullies drive people to their graves. A few questions that are running in my mind are why do they get bullied, why do they want to bully them and why no one cared enough to notice that something is wrong? Why are they shunned? Are we that discriminating? Do we avoid abnormal people? Or we avoid them because they are physically abnormal, we just don’t like the way

Review: Kenmore Dishwashers
2007-11-07 08:12:13
Whenever the family gathers together for dinners, there will be dishes to be washed. This happens often when there is a huge family gathering, especially so during festive seasons. At this point in time, the sink will be overflowing with dishes that need washing. Need help? Check out Kenmore Dishwashers. They will help you reduce your workload. Very useful for those who hate washing dishes. You don’t have to spend time wasting energy trying to look for them, do a search in Krillion and it’ll source out the nearest retailers based on your location. Once you are done, just go to the retailer and make your purchase. 7 Cheap Goods Passing off as Branded
2007-11-12 19:56:51
After an apparent insult that the 7 young artistes from J Team Studios that they were comparable to fake goods, Paul Chan claimed that it was just a joke. Well, I think it was a joke that was carried too far. By calling them fake, it meant that J Team Studios did a lousy selection of girls that are meant to be propelled to stardom. The interview was done enthusiastically but the end result? It turned into a “joke” that the girls were equivalent to cheap goods trying to pass off as branded goods. Lao Zha Bor calls them her 7 Princesses. Can see she really dotes on them. I wonder why the remark on goods. ADV: Plan Your Wedding the Stress-free Way
2007-11-12 06:39:09
With more weddings to attend this year, I have gained a little insight of how they are being prepared. The wedding itself is not tedious. It’s the preparations. You need to ensure that those who are being invited have replied and the attendance have been confirmed so that you can inform the restaurant in advance. The bouquets, guest book, flower girl, ring pillow and many other stuff to be prepared. Invitation cards have to be sent out at least 2 months before the wedding day and the relatives have to be given gifts as per tradition. These all lead to stress for the bride and the groom. The bride has to choose the perfect wedding dress, the groom has to ensure all the arrangements have to be made. To help you, check out Wedding Website, a site where it will help you lighten your load. You have a checklist where it’ll show you what tasks have been completed. Commonly asked questions can also be found there such as a list of must-have ceremony accessories, writing your own ma

Money No Enough!
2007-11-12 02:15:10
Before the bacherlorette party on Saturday night, I had dinner with HF while on our way to meet the bride-to-be and the rest. During the train ride, we talked about issues like the environment and cars (my never-ending fascination with personal transport). Actually, I was wondering when they would push the sales of hybrid or more environmental friendly cars. With the rising petrol prices, I doubt I’ll be able to feed it. I can’t. Unless I have the MP’s salary, perhaps, I can feed it. My theory is that they are scared that thousands or millions of people who are in the oil industry will lost jobs all at the same time. Well, I still remember the time when they said engineers were in demand 10 years back. After I graduated, they have no demands for us. The factories moved and quite a lot lost their jobs. I wasted my time and money on a piece of diploma. Where was I? Oh, we moved to other topics like building a family after marriage. I once dreamt of having 4 kids. No, no

Oh, I Want That!
2007-11-12 01:40:54
Oh, I want that! And that and that! Ok, I’m not crazy, Kloudiia just introduced a site for online shopping. It’s called I Want That! Sounds a little demanding. However, when we want something, we’ll go thinking “I want that!” and off we go to shop for it. The bags are all handmade so, you can be assured that it’s unique. I so heart handmade products. Although, these are on the high side. Even this cute bag is equivalent to the cost of a pair of new jeans. Speaking of which, I may have to buy new jeans. I’m growing out of my current pairs. All because of the weddings to attend and the severe lack of proper exercise. © WishBoNe for A Mind of My Own, 2007. | Permalink | 3 comments This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 License. Mishandling Causes Grief and Depression
2007-11-11 05:20:36
December is coming. The end of 2007 is coming. My contract is ending in a few months’ time. Everything seems to be ending for me. I feel demoralised. Depressed? A little. I’m not sure what this coming months will bring. Joy? Hope? Lost? Disappointment? I’ll be graduating once I receive the letter to attend the ceremony. I’m sure my parents will be going with me. However, I don’t feel excited about this ceremony now. After 4 years of tears and hard work, it doesn’t seem so attractive now. With the coming contract ending, I’m once again wondering if I should strike out on my own. I’m not sure where my personal life will be going with my mishandling, yet again. I still haven’t learnt from the other time. I asked myself why is that I must insist it be done that way. I keep hurting others instead. After knowing that they are hurt, I’m disappointed with myself and depressed with the way I’ve handled the situations.

Out of Proportion
2007-11-11 04:31:46
Obsessed. That’s why I am. Obsessed with a lot of things and unable to control it until it gets out of hand. Apparently, it had caused problems. It seems I need certain things and only to cause grief for others. I’m a “hard” person as described by ES. All these years, I’ve been unsuccessful in certain areas and perhaps, I should give it up and be something else. I’m envious of others and forget that I’m different from them. I’m able to accomplish other things but not able to replicate the success of others. I’m the one who will be thinking about it a lot and think “why can’t it be done by me?” It’s not good. It ain’t healthy either. A leopard can’t change its spots and I have been the leopard all along. It was just a simple thing but it blew out of proportion. It seems that I’m lousy in this area no matter how hard I try. It seems that my obsession for this area is causing major problem. No,

Busy Month Ahead
2007-11-09 06:51:54
This is a busy month for me. I have to attend 1 ROM and 1 wedding. In between, I’ve to plan for the wedding morning activities and tasks. I’ve sent out the emails but only 1 or 2 have responded to their tasks. Being the organiser is difficult. Let’s see, I’ve had to cancel one or two gatherings because no one responded except for 2. Any gatherings have to be planned one month in advance. Otherwise, I won’t be getting the needed attendance. The target for the attendance has to be 75%. Reminds me of the school attendance so that you qualify for the exams. Thankfully, it’s over! Anyway, back to my schedule. I hope the girls will be doing their tasks instead of me having to resort to using the more expensive but effective (sometimes not effective) method of SMS. Girls, it’s expensive to send out 8 SMS excluding answering your questions. So, please help yourselves, read email la! No matter how busy, emails on such important matter like doing your ta

Thumb Prints Used to Be Unclear
2007-11-17 19:23:10
For years, I had this skin issue. Or maybe due to my obsessive compulsive behaviour that I’m unable to control myself at times. Whenever I see something out of place, I will either remove it or try to amend it. For my skin issue, I try to remove it. Bad idea. Very. Bad. Idea. The skin from my thumbs, yes, 2 of ‘em, got small tears and over the years, got to huge tears and even bleeding when I try to remove that dried skin. Scary, huh? My parents often nagged at me to get something from the doctors to help myself. They were very worried that my significant other would mind the rough skin while holding hands. Perhaps that’s why I got nagged whenever possible. My mum went through all lengths to get lotions, oils and herbs to help me. I, on the other hand, wasn’t worried because I was nonchalant. I felt that the more I worry about it, the worst it would be. I was wrong. I was getting stressed and my problem got even worse. I was ashamed of shaking hands with people
