6 reasons why we lie 2007-09-02 04:42:00 They say :- "He who cannot lie does not know what the truth is”Everybody lies at one point or another in their lives. The reasons for doing it may be different at different times and yet,The fundamental reason why people lie is because it mostly works. We all lie, but why do we lie? Sure, lying is both useful and sometimes even fun, yet there are fundamental reasons why we lie. These main reasons are:Fear of harm: The easiest reason to understand why we lie is for self protection, including self deception, to prevent harm to ourselves. This harm can be either physical or mental.Fear of conflict: To some degree, we all fear having an argument.Fear of punishment: When growing up, how often did we lie about how well we did in school, or who started a fight? How often do we cover up our mistakes and transgressions?Fear of rejection: Sometimes, our insecurities are the foundation of why we lie to each other, because we want to be remain popular in our relationships. Typically, it is harmles
Socialising with Sanjay Dutt gets one constable suspended and 6 others get verbal whiplash! 2007-08-26 21:23:00 I can't believe the news today: R.R. Patil and the rest of the government machinery are upset at the police constables who hugged and shook hands with Sanjay
Dutt upon his release. The constable who was seen hugging Sanju has been suspended
and a show cause notice has been served to 8 others who shook hands with Sanju. A parallel inquiry is being carried out by inspector general of jails Satish Mathur against some Yerwada officials who allegedly tried to ensure special treatment for Sanjay. “The Maharashtra Civil Service Conduct rules as well as the police manual forbids policemen and government servants from extending friendly gestures towards convicts. It is seen as a violation of conduct expected of a government servant,” said information officer Vasant Titke.“Why is it that lowly police constables are penalised for such actions while a state cabinet minister like Baba Siddiqui openly flaunts his friendship with Sanjay, accompanies him to courts, receives him when he is out Read more:gets one

And Baba's out!! 2007-08-23 01:37:00 Sanjay Dutt better known as Sanju Baba in the Indian Film Industry finally was released today at 7:15 in the morning, he reached home only at 8:30 however. But what was interesting to note is the way Baba appeared today, he had a very short haircut and was sporting a beard as well. He appeared very composed indeed and made it a point to hug and shake hands with all of the Police officers on the scene. It's funny to note that while the Law/System is bent on 'softening' him and teaching him a lesson for the supposed arrogance that he had all those years ago, it's officers love him just as much as all his fans, friends, family members and colleagues do! What comes out so openly is that he is no criminal, well, atleast for all his fans, family and even friends (The list of the kind of friends he has is mind-blowing : from Baba Siddique to all his colleagues in the industry, everybody loves and admires him!) I will always be his fan no matter what the courts say! One even saw the same i
Why Blame Orkut? 2007-08-22 20:50:00 First & Foremost, may peace be upon Adnan's soul & his family. They did not deserve this in anyway. I heard about the Case of this young un-fortunate lad on TV day before yesterday and I feel sick to know that kids his age can commit a crime so cold-bloodedly ruthless! what drove them to this? desire for money? or was it the desire for the things which money could get them? or was it the desire for things which they thought money could get them? whatever it was if we have youngsters in this country who are ready to go to such extremes as first time criminals then it's sad for all of us. What drove these kids should be investigated in a scientific (psychological manner) and action taken to rectify the cause at the earliest. Perhaps men like Dawood Ibrahim have proved to youngsters that "crime pays" and it's okay to go to any lengths. Whatever it is, it's sad to see such an utter lack of Human compassion and the use of deception that the boys did."Other media, it seems fails to a Read more:Blame

Mumbai for the Foodies...! 2007-08-22 19:40:00 One of the things that go into making a place unique or uniquely great is the food from that place and the food that one gets in Mumbai
(Bombay) is uniquely great indeed! This time, Arzan Sam Wadia from Metroblog Mumbai did a special on 7 Mumbai speciality foods and I just couldn't help but link to it. Here is the 7 Mumbai Eats post. He rightly mentions that "there are some things that are so uniquely Bombay-ish that they don't taste the same anywhere else...or come out as poor imitations in other cities."Anyway, if you are not a Mumbaikar and if you happen to visit Mumbai, do try all of mentioned on the post, you will love them, trust me! (I did not know however that Sheekh Kabab's were uniquely Mumbai items but yes they do taste best in Mumbai!) There is no shortage of great restaurants and other eateries in Mumbai as well. The best part is that you do not have to spend too much to Wine & Dine in style in here. Mumbai is one of the few cities in India where you should be able to s
Shopping in Mumbai. 2007-08-22 11:11:00 I just got my first iPod Video today and it feels great indeed. I previously owned a 8 Mb mini iPod but I had grown tired of it. Besides it did not play Video. My new pod's got 30 gb space and it plays video (the quality is pretty nice to be honest). Bought it at Musaphir-Khana, (you get down on Masjid station on the harbour line, exit on the west side and then ask anybody where is Musaphir Khana to get there) You get everything from personal electronics to Kashmiri shawls, even the illegal ones, The ipod costs 200$ Internationally and I got it for 9000 rs, not bad I think. Since I was out shopping, also ended up buying a graphics card and some game CD's from Lamington road. Ah! feels so good to blow up some cash after a while.Like most shoppaholic's, shopping is therapeutic for me as well. But after years after shopping binge's in which I have wasted more than a lot of money, I tend to look for the best deals so that I do not end up feeling nasty after the binge. Sanju Baba gets Interim Bail 2007-08-20 02:20:00 Here's Great news for Snajay Dutt Fans :- The Supreme Court has finally granted interim bail to Sanjay Dutt today and Sanju can be free if all the formalities are completed by 5 in the evening. While granting bail, the apex court said Dutt's passport will remain with the trial court and he cannot leave the country without its permission. The bad news is that Dutt has been ordered to go back to jail when he gets a copy of the conviction order, which may be handed over to him in September. Now, that the law has openly mocked him and his great family, I hope the law is mocked at thoroughly as well. But maybe the brilliant lawyers that are on his pay-rolls will figure out a way to keep him out of jail longer than he is inside, atleast we can hope it happens.Update :- It is the next day and Baba is still not out. Apparently, the courts in Delhi released the bail orders only in the evening and Baba comes out only when the Yerwada Jail administration gets the release orders. Baba may have f Read more:Interim
7 Places to sight a Bollywood Star. 2007-08-18 10:05:00 It has been my experience that one of the first questions people ask you upon finding out that you live in Mumbai is "Which Film Stars have you seen till date?" or "Will you please take me to a shoot when I come to Mumbai so that I can have a look at stars?" or"If you can get me an autograph from so & so actor?" such is the pull of the Demi Gods and Goddesses who dazzle us with their persona on-screen. Of course the craze for Stars is not limited to outsiders; Mumbaikars are just as prone to the pull of stars. I myself have seen Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachhan and Madhuri Dixit only. Saw Salman riding his sports bike with his buddies in Bandra and Amitabh and Madhuri were in a party I once had the privilege of attending. But any way, here's some priceless information I found for all fanboys and fangirls crazy about the Cine-Stars, 7 Places

Giving up Mumbai 2007-08-17 18:44:00 They keep telling us that India is developing and by the seventieth year of Independence, we will rule Asia and we Indians love to buy it. But does it really look that way when you see this? Here's what the author of this video had to say :- "Can you believe this? And the buzz is that India is developing. Open your eyes, this is the commercial capital, Mumbai
(Bombay). Notice the amount of Auto-Rickshaws (The little black vehicles), people, speed of the car and filth. Besides, it was filmed sometime around 4pm. What's your thought?" Proud to be an Indian... 2007-08-14 22:30:00 Usually at this time in the morning (Yes the SOB's in the BPO industry make you work on days like this as well. But you get double the pay of course...) I am busy getting ready to leave for work but today, the patriotic songs blaring from big speakers on the street below my building woke me up early and I am all ready and decked up to go when it's 9:30. Anyway just thought I'd congratulate all of my Indian brothers & sisters who 'still' have their Independence even after 60 years since 1947. But be proud to be an Indian always! if you are not just go kill yourself...! (If you happen to be a Pakistani, learn from all your mistakes already and suddhrofy, you are the only Islamic nation with Nuclear weapons and that is because you have the Indian genes which might have lent some precious little sense to you; also, don't hunt what you can't kill)Related:-Quotes by foreigners about India. Will Bureaucracy keep Fucking India?32 things that haven't changed in Mumbai.Interesting questio Read more:Proud
Chak De Review by Indiafm.com 2007-08-10 17:01:00 I plan to go to see Chak De tomorrow with a few friends. Know the movie's good by word of mouth from friends and family but I was anyway searching for a 'media' review on the movie. Here's the review of Chak De by Indiafmc.com. After reading this, I think I will rather go for the movie.IndiaFm:-The Yash Raj - SRK combo is back. No lush green fields here. No running around trees either. No chiffon sarees to make the ladies look their best. No melodrama, no parental opposition, no lovers defying their parents. CHAK DE INDIA, directed by Shmit Amin, charters a new territory.Yash Raj is not really known to venture into unconventional lanes, barring a KABUL EXPRESS in the recent past. CHAK DE INDIA isn't unconventional as such, but it's definitely different and awe inspiring at times. Frankly speaking, CHAK DE INDIA doesn't boast of a path-breaking script, but execution of the subject material succeeds in making you find purpose and meaning and also arouses patriotic sentiments. 15th August - Indian Independence day. 2007-08-09 07:46:00 With the Indian Independence
Day just around the corner, I find myself in a patriotic mood today. I heard the legendary "ए मेरे वतन के लोगों" and it sort of amplified the mood even more. It's strange that you only love your country only when it's the Independence day or Replubic day or when it's at war with Pakistan. Anyway, here's an e-mail forward I had in my inbox which gives us the great things that great outsiders have said about Hindustan:- "India Conquered and dominated China culturally for 20 centuries without ever having to send a single soldier across her border।" -Hu Shih, former ambassador of China to USA "Nearly all the philosophical and mathematical doctrines attributed to Pythagoras are derived from India" -Ludwig von Schroder"There are some parts of the world that, once visited, get into your heart and won't go. For me, India is such a place. When I first visited, I was stunned by the richness of the land, by its lush beauty and exot Read more:August
Off to Lucknow. 2007-08-08 09:06:00 I am sorry for not posting in the last 3 or 4 days. I had to go to Lucknow (U.P) where my Uncle works to invest in real estate there. I know it might sound strange but it pays to diversify your real estate investment as well. Who has the money to buy property in Mumbai anyway :) ?? Also, a break for just 3 days from the city which included the train journey through the scenic Indian countryside was quite refreshing to me!!!Related :-Mumbai's Housing; most expensive in the Developing world.Things that haven't changed in Mumbai.Indian Train journey.
Conserve Energy. 2007-08-04 01:27:00 For the true environment buff or the true power saver, there are already many ways to save money and energy; bio-diesal, electric cars, solar energy etc etc. But here's a way you can contribute to saving energy: go to http://www.blackle.com/ to do your google searches instead of google.com (the results are served by Google of course) You should notice that the background for the site is black. (this saves energy because your monitor needs less power to display a dark screen) Brilliant idea indeed, whatsay? The site claims to have saved 129,669.593 Watt hours at the time or witting this post already. Whatever that means. But I'd advice that youto bookmark the site as your homepage instead of Google. It should help you save some money on your electricity bill as well!!Related:-Global Warming.Monsoon Pattern. Read more:Conserve

Mixed Emotions... 2007-08-03 01:07:00 After a long time, I woke up today at 6 00 in the morning and then thought that I should go for a walk & run outside and headed to Five Gardens. After just 2 rounds over there however, the rains started pouring heavily and I was caught un-aware without a raincoat or an umbrella. I hadn't even carried much money for a cab, just had a 5 rs coin for bus fare back. I took shelter under a bus stop there and was stuck there for about 2 hours waiting for the only bus from that stop which goes to my place. The rain thankfully slowed down after that and I finally moved out, having to walk back to my house because of the huge traffic jam that had formed by now [the buses even if they had come would have taken me atleast an hour instead of the 15 mins it actually took] So, not only do I didn't get some exercise today, I also got completely soaked. But the sweet part is that I can bunk office today because I hear trains are already halted. Plan to spend the day browsing the net and reading the H Read more:Mixed
No mercy for anyone - The message that they want us to get. 2007-07-31 05:02:00 Sanjay Dutt, one of the biggest stars in bollywood has today been sentenced to a term of 6 years in jail for illegal possession of an Ak-56, 9 mm pistol and temporary possession of some hand grenades as well. All of these came from Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar; the man who features in FBI's top 10 wanted list and is India's most wanted criminal. This sentence more than any other handed out in this case perhaps sends a clear message that the Law intends to be very tough with terrorists in India. The important part is that Sanjay Dutt is a hindu who was quite remotely involved in an act of Islamic terrorism committed 14 years ago by Dawood Ibrahim, Tiger Memon & Co. He is also a celebrity with tens of millions of fans including me. But all of this has been ignored and he has been sentenced. Maybe the sentence will stop anyone in the future from wanting to tread down the path of anything illegal...Related:-Last Death Sentence Handed out in the Mumbai Bombings Case. The first Death Sentence in th Read more:mercy
Miracle of Birth in Mumbai Locals 2007-07-30 02:17:00 Meena Gupta (25) yesterday gave birth to a baby boy on a Chruchgate fast local. She was accompanied by her husband, Haripal & a neighbour. The trio was headed for the KEM hospital in Lower Parel. She went in to labour pains in between Bandra & Dadar. The birth took place beneath a seat in the second class general compartment and the umbilical cord was cut using a pair of scissors which a co passenger gave. Meena and her new-born were later admitted to the Sion Hospital by the Police. The doctors there anounced them fine and only then did everyone involved heave a sigh of relief. I can only imagine the helplessness, confusion and chaos everyone in that compartment including Haripal must have felt.Interestingly, this is the second time in a matter of 3 months a birth has taken place in one of the coaches of the Mumbai

Mumbai gets lucky this time 2007-09-26 12:37:00 Six live bombs were found by the Police in the Andheri suburb of Mumbai
while the crowds were celebrating India's World Cup win. According to the police, these were live country made bombs of limited intensity, obviously made by country bumpkins with little 'experience of jihad' [being sarcastic here!] But luckily, no lives were lost. Anyway, to anyone with a good memory, this implies something very serious. Normally, there should be a fear of consequences of any unlawful actions taken by a person or group of persons especially any actions which leads to loss of Human Lives. This may also require that the law & order machinery set an example which serves as a deterrent to anyone planning to commit any such acts. But India on the other hand has set examples which make it (India) look like a very very soft target on the other hand. It took the state 14 years to sentence the perpetrators of the 1993 Mumbai blasts case in which more than 250 people were killed and more than 700 peopl Read more:lucky
Meanhile, it's come to hunger strikes for Hockey Players now! 2007-09-26 06:30:00 While everyone is busy celebrating the India's championship win in the T20 cup, the Hockey team members have decided to go on a ‘hunger strike’. They are rightly in my opinion irked by the step-motherly treatment meted out to them by the central and the state governments. It's sad to see such a difference in the state of players of one sport Cricket and of the other Hockey. I hope the all powerful media of this day & age gives this news the coverage it deserves and helps out the Hockey players. Also, I can only imagine how much it hurts when the Hockey players are treated the way they do and when the see how Mumbai has practically halted for the Cricketing champs. The Champions receive a larger than life welcome from the fans! 2007-09-26 05:26:00 From the moment, the young team got down at the Airport and got on the bus which was to take them to the Wankhadey stadium in Churchgate for a special post-world cup ceremony, the fans flocked in thousands to see these young lions who have done us all proud! I myself went to Mahim to intercept their 'caravan' and was lucky to see these players and cheer for them! To be honest I have never f*****g seen anything quite like this in Mumbai before and the spirit of Chak De was adamant in the air and everyone present seemed to have just one identity - Indian! it's one of those things for which words sometimes fall short, Mumbai almost came to a halt and not too many were complaining, that's the way we unite in such times! May God Bless India and it's people forever!!!Anyway, as is the case always, the politicos did end up being the talking point after the special ceremony in the Wankhadey stadium. Mumbai Sensex gets another shot in the arm... 2007-09-25 17:24:00 (UPDATE :- The Sensex Index finally went past 17K and now the experts are simply saying that the next milestone is 20k and not 18 or 19)and luckily, I am one those who'll cash in because finally I have a few shares in my portfolio. A friend who had the sense to do an MBA and that too in Finance initiated me into the stock market a couple of months ago and I am glad I started. Anyway, I read this story this morning in the Times of India. According to the article, the investments by Foreign funds - the most influential group of Investors in India in 2007 crossed the 11 billion mark surpassing the 10.8 billion mark in 2007. September alone has seen investments of 2.7 billion in the Indian markets, which is the second highest investment month by FII after the month of July which saw investments of 5.8 billion coming in to the Indian markets. Experts are saying that almost all of these players are coming with a long term view so, the average small investor doesn't have to worry too much. Read more:Mumbai
