It hurts: Shahid Kapur
2007-10-22 02:57:00
Weeks of speculation over Saif Ali Khans and Kareena Kapur's relation finally ended this week when at the Lakme fashion week, Saif Ali Khan admitted that "For the time being all I am comfortable with saying is that we are together. I think the media is giving too much attention to this. Kareena and I are here and are happy with each other." It was Saif who did all the talking and Kareena just blushed and smiled in the background. Booth looked like teenagers in love, sweet! Not surprisingly, a lot has been written about Saif & Kareena with pictures of them cuddling, laughing and having fun together.Disturbed by the onslaught of pictures in the media of Kareena and the new man in her life, actor Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapur finally admitted, “It will be dishonest to say that this doesn’t affect me. I am human, it hurts to see and read this all the time. I guess I have no choice but to live and deal with it.” Well, love is painful and Shahid's just finding that out. I hope he f

Raikonen crowned world champion
2007-10-22 02:36:00
Like so many others, the drama of the Brazilian Grand-Prix yesterday on Sunday had me on the edge of my seat for the duration of the race. It was an interesting situation, all Hamilton had to do was to finish with 5 points and he would have won the champion ship but the young rookie driver made a big mistake at the start of the race and slid off the track which cost him a few places and then later in the race, faced some gear-box issues which lost him 30 seconds more and in the end it was something that Lewis Hamilton could not make up for preventing him from becoming the first ever rookie F1 champion. But I'd say that he has enough to be proud off, who would have thought such a result for him in his first championship season? not even him or his father. As for Raikonen, I am very very happy that he finally won a championship. To be honest, I have always liked him since he was driving for McLarren, he was the only one who could replace Mika Hakkinen at the time and was strong enough to

A change of Plans
2007-10-21 14:24:00
First off, I am again sorry for not posting in a really long long time. (Hang in there dear Feed Subscribers pls!!) There always seems to be so many things I have an opinion on and can blog about but I never often find the energy and time to:Get to the pc, Turn it on, Connect to the net, Open firefox, (I hate IE), Go to blogger.com, Sign in and then write about it ;) (I was born lazy for some reason).Often, it's just like going through the motions, I quote from here and there, give some link love and that is it! This obviously is not satisfactory at all. I am sure a lot of people who happen upon this blog just think it's a scam adsense blog and that is the last thing I had in mind when I started this bloggie. Another thing I have realized is that instead of this being a Mumbai Buzz blog, it should be an India Buzz blog. That gives us a chance to discuss a broader range of topics and events. All the thinking I have done recently has convinced me that it (blog) will benefit much more

Sensex thrills of the week
2007-10-22 13:58:00
The boys at Dalal Street are having a Roller-Coaster ride for sure. Last week, we saw a fall from 19174 to 17307 and a rise through to make a new high at 19198. But finally the Sensex surrendered all gains to close the week at 17559.98. I asked a friend of mine who knows a lot about trading the reason for the Volatility? "Profit booking stupid" he said and I kind of felt guilty at that because I had booked profits on some of my stocks as well when the Sensex was at it's peak. But what the hell, don't you buy shares so that when the price of those shares rise, you sell them and book a profit? "Yes, but the markets eventually will reach levels close to 22,000 soon and you jumped the gun I am afraid" is what my friend said. I don't believe him, reason? gut feeling. But my limited experience with investing has already thought me that gut feelings don't count. So, I am planning to buy some more shares if the levels plummet even slightly again. It's currently at 17,613, if it comes down

Chiranjeevi & family accept the black sheep in the family
2007-10-22 07:59:00
Chiranjeevi's daughter, Srija/Sreeja (I don't know the correct spelling sorry) shocked the world and her family last week by marrying her college sweetheart Shirish. Then news trickled in that she had sought police protection from the Delhi High Court because of murder threats to her and her groom from the Chiranjeevi family, she had said that the family wanted to get her killed because she had spoiled the family name and brought shame to the family. The icing on the cake was that the marriage took place in the media glare. Chiranjeevi was allegedly opposed to the marriage because of the economic status of the boy. But after so much media attention to the marriage, he had to buckle he said this while appearing visibly very distressed:“I was shocked when I came to know about the marriage. The important thing is that my family and well wishers have stood by me during this traumatic period. But now I want to bless my daughter and tell her that sweety, wherever you are, I wish you ha

Back to Jail for Sanjay Dutt
2007-10-22 07:10:00
Well, the first day of this week brings some sad news for Sanjay Dutt fans: A copy of the judgment of the 1993 Mumbai blasts have been submitted to Sanju and he has now been remanded to Judicial custody by the special Tada court. (For those who do not remember, Dutt was out on bail only until a copy of the judgment was handed over to him) this was due on Saturday itself but the judgment copy wasn't ready then and he was able to enjoy 2 more days of freedom. A copy of the judgment has been given to his friend Yusuf Nullwala as well and he surrendered with Sanju Baba as well. The terrible news for Sanjay Dutt , his family and all his fans including me is that Baba will have to go back to Yerwada jail in Pune again now.By the way, the judgment runs in to 4,340 pages. I don't think people like me and you can understand much of it, not sure even if Baba can even after all the years dealing with the law of this country but hey I can think of plenty of other uses of the judgment copy.So this

Passage through the Night...
2007-10-29 14:05:00
No night is a dull night night in Mumbai, something or the other is always happening when it's dark in here, things are not always pretty but they sure are unique to Mumbai. Thanx Prashant (iyerprashant at yahoo dot com) for sending me these videos about the nightlife in Mumbai (this is not about the glitz and the razmataaz here). Thanx to areenattari for making them as well. I found it a channel worth subscribing to in youtube... Not sure about the choice of background music in some sections, sometimes it gells in well with the scenes as well though.All-in-all, this has it all:Children studying under streetlights, The daily 'lafdas' and alert 'pandus' in Mumbai and A Galloping horse on the street as well....??!

About the Project
2007-11-18 06:24:00
Well, only since the last couple of years, I have had to travel regularly in the Mumbai Local's since I started working in a Call Center in Malad. I stay in Sion or maybe more King's Circle, at first, I worked in Malad and then in Andheri and honestly, I did not have any idea that conditions could be so gruesome, I had heard people talk about how crowded it is and people cracking jokes on it but experiencing it for the first few times and then regularly for almost 2 years now made me aware of the few things I was so damn ignorant of:Why is it so crowded in trains in Western Lines? I found out the answer soon that since so many people migrated to the suburbs because of availability of cheap housing in those parts, a large part of Mumbai's Middle & Lower-Middle class income class group stays in suburbs like Andheri, Malad, Goregaon, Vasai, Bhayendar, Mira-Road, Borrivali, Kandevali, Virar and the other's I missed out in between. These are the Men & Women who make their work t

I shouldn't be alive
2007-11-21 16:20:00
I really watch that "I shouldn't be Alive" show and try not to miss it. It's not just the fun, thrill or drama that I watch it for but the comradearie I feel with guy's who have these most amazing tales. I also almost died in our 'Life-Line' Mumbai locals but lived, read on to know howFirst off, It's really sad that traveling in Local trains is risking lives day in and day out, but the prize is not money, fame and glory, the prize is simply survival, reaching collges, schools and offices. It is not uncomon to have to go through the journey's with only the toe of one of your feet on the landing of the compqrtment door and you hold on to the pole a the compartment door. The good thing is that your muscles get plenty of workout, so if the gym's burning holes in your pocket, hit the Rails. I have had a few scary episodes as well and one of them was when I almost died. I had boareded the fast local at Bandra. That day, I was late in getting to the platform and so, the people had alr

Let's just face it: life's tough in Mumbai
2007-11-18 08:35:00
Advance Warning :- Longish Post :)Yes, let's be honest living in Bombay isn't fun-time really. It may have been the wonderful 'City of Dreams' at one time but it's morphed in to something else entirely now. While the writers/poets of the ester years may have found Bombay a dream city, (Of course the Bombay they meant was the southern town zones which were well planned and developed during the 'Raj') where well-educated middle and upper classes mingled, indulged in frivolous activities a trifle more with much more anonymity than in say a small town. I concede that the opportunity to revel in the desires of the flesh and with anonymity if desired is still there; There are pubs, lounges and discos now where you go to have a few drinks and enjoy with friends. If that is not your thing, there are countless 'Bar & Restaurants' and other eateries where you go to have drinks and food with family and friends, there are coffee shops, bakeries, the new bookstores, music stores like C

A quick qord about the new design
2007-12-22 16:26:00
I finally got down to redesign ing the Mumbaiya.net template today and after a couple of hours of work, I am pretty pleased with myself, will try to add the Blog title and info in the square beside the header image tomorrow, very sleepy now :) I hated the meaningless design and fonts I had picked up in a hurry myself, glad I saw the back of it :#?Anyway, now that the design is cool, I feel like hanging out here more and will post much more often, cheers!!!!!!

Sorry for the sacrficial lambs ....
2007-12-22 03:48:00
Just yesterday (22nd December) was Bakri eid and thanks to that I got an extra day off from work so I am thankful. But since this is the 'politically incorrect' blog where I am supposed to call a spade a spade, I'd like to take this moment and space in the universe of on-line ether to pray and express sorrow and compassion for the millions of goats/sheeps who lost their lives yesterday; sacrificed in the name of religion and festivities. Oh I am soooo sory for the sacrficial lambs and remember their throats not chopped off but painfully slit away with kinives which are blunted from all the throat-slitting since morning. In their religion they call it halaal, for me it's just draconian, inhuman foolishness. Not just on part of the people who do this but on part of all the rest of us as well who allow this madness to continue. Actually to be honest this 'Eid ul zhua was the first one I celebrated with a couple of muslim friends in my life and after witnessing all the slaughter, I d

There's still hope for us: Narrendra Modi wins in Gujrat
2007-12-23 09:02:00
(Modi's supperman photo courtsey gujraticenter.com, The results for all the 182 assembly constituencies in Gujrat - one of the most important battlefronts in Indian Politics have been declared and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has cliched the state election of 2007 with a comfortable majority --- Fantastic news for the people; people like me, people who are interested in progress and forward movement instead of getting their fears exploited. The gujrati community [irrespective of religion] has shown sense that has been lacking in the rest of the country in the last few years. Congress did play all it's time tested communal cards, the media did it's bit in carrying on with it's bashing of Narrendra-Modi and so called 'Hindutva' politics but thank heavens it has not worked in Gujrat. Have to hand it to the people of Gujrat for thinking on their own feet and not getting swept away in a foolish and worthless tide. They chose progress over choosing to mingle over old communal issues. Pe

White People & Indians
2008-03-10 06:46:00
Indians and White people have had a long history with each other starting from the 1600's when the British, French, the Portuguese and even Spaniards came to India for trade. For one-and-a-half centuries after that, the white people fought amongst themselves. Many figured it was for monopoly of trade and some figured that white people just like to fight. These fights and skirmishes were a source of amusement and entertainment for the native Indian population who weren't involved and could watch from the sidelines. In 1767 after the battle of Plassey in which the British defeated the French backed Nawab of Bengal, the British East India company became a commercial and military power and it ruled India. The French were driven out except for a small trading outpost in Pondicherry. The British

Sweeping it all under the rug
2008-03-07 11:45:07
The recent Thackeray campaign against people from the states of UP & Bihar are a classic example again of how Indians just don't like to deal with painful issues and rather would sweep all the dirt under the rug and run from the issue. The attack on north Indians was unacceptable and got a lot of stick from all corners especially the media. But even then everybody is hesitant to talk about and face the things that should not be. For one, the relentless abuse and ridicule of people from the 'Bhojpuri' land clearly demonstrated how vulnerable this group is not just here in Bombay but also elsewhere in India what ever the reasons for this might be.What is sick is that people from this background are being used as fucking punching bags or stress balls to vent out! Man, enough is enough; wh

Cricket Mania
2008-03-03 11:27:04
Most Indian people generally do not show much interest in any sport except cricket. In fact, anybody who is in any other sport like hockey, football or tennis is considered a fool to be wasting his/her time in it. Even if they do well, it is common for Indians to treat such athletes and players like P.T Usha or Mr. Negi with Indifference. Whether this is because of some genetic make up thing, culture or the poor treatment of sports people is hotly debated every now and then by the Indian intelligentsia on T.V talk shows, magazine articles etc and then it is generally agreed that all of the above are reasons Indians aren't good in any other Sports except Cricket . But Indians make up for their lack of competence and interest in other sports with over the top fan following of Indian crickete

Brotherly Love amongst Indians
2008-03-03 11:26:40
The great people of India have always had a reputation of being peace-loving, intelligent and calm people. This reputation has not come over night, people of India have had to work hard for it, by taking a lot of shit lying down from other not so peaceful groups in the course of it's long history. In his heart of hearts each Indian feels it's his duty to be good natured and kind towards foreigners. That is why they think Indians are that way. Each Indian also feels in his heart of hearts that if there's any fighting to do, it's to be done with a fellow Indian. Actually, to say that Indians like to fight amongst themselves, pull each other down, hurl insults against each other, corrupt the system, blame it on each other etc etc would be an understatement; Indians absolutely love doing the a

About 'Stuff Indians do and like" change of plans for this blog
2008-03-03 10:50:57
Well, I only stumbled across the outrageously hilarious blog titled Stuff White People Like a couple of days ago. (Any one who hasn't done that, please try it now). The blogs there to provide crucial insights on stuff white people like. I plan to use these very crucial insights if I ever get to a white people's country like USA. Till that time however I am stuck with coloured people - Indians who also are in dire need of scientific analysis to explain their likes, dislikes and general preferences. Rising up to the occasion, this is my blog which aims through scientific approach to highlight and explain stuff we Indian people like.

Migrant issue: Actors come out in support of Raj
2008-03-03 03:29:57
Raj Thackerey's anti-North Indian stand was today supported by many bollywood biggies including Nana Patekar, Ashok Saraf, Sajid Khan and producer Sajid Nadiadwala. Nana also added his personal opinion with his signature on the signature campaign initiated by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) to protest the gag order on its president Raj Thackeray. Patekar felt that Raj has raised an 'important' issue and it is not right to quiten him [Raj].“There may be a difference of opinion about the manner in which Raj has raised the issue,” he said in the letter. “But there is no doubt about the importance of the issue he has raised,” he said.“If the son-of-the-soil concept is wrong, then the formation of states on linguistic basis should also be questioned. To what extent can one bear t

India walks all over Australia

Wow! great Sunday finally we get to see India beating Australia in the Finals. Actually in the end, India won comfortably with 25 balls to spare and my hero Sachin Tendulkar (despite him being Maharashtrian) played a hero's innings and saw the team through. What more could one ask for! No I'll go and burst some crackers in celebration....

The controversy sorrounding the thackerey clan's campaign against North Indians only from the states of Uttar Pradesh & Bihar simply won't die down. The latest was a war of words between our Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and Bal Thakerey. Thakerey called him names and said that Lalu should just stay in Bihar & Lalu retorted by saying that Mr. Thackerey is propably too old to be brawling and instead should spend the rest of his days being religious, spiritual. Lalu's got a point if think about it. Anyway, this whole campaign against people from above mentioned states has probably burried not just Sena, MNS and their Ally BJP atleast in the center. Somebody like me won't now ever vote for a party like BJP which has an ally with ShivSena even though the BJP might have north India

Mumbai Team the most sort after when Indian cricket gets auctioned for whopping $718 mn!
2008-01-24 16:57:04
The pecking order remained as it is in the world outside of the IPL in the auction for the Franchise of Cricketing teams especially the Mumbai cricket team. For Mumbai, it turned out to be a Movie style auction race between two Business tycoons Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries & Vijay Mallya Chairman of the UB group and the richer man prevailed. Mukesh Ambani who is the richest man in the world by many estimates won the franchise of the Mumbai team for a sum of $111.9 million which is I think 480 crorse Indian Rs, Vijay Mallya got the Bangalore team for just a little less at $111.6 million which is a lot of hundreds of Indian fucking Rs as well. Then the bollywood stars teamed up to bag the rest, India's cricketing cathedral Kolkata was bagged by the team of Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla

Media propelled bear Screws the investors
2008-01-22 14:24:56
I meant that the bear market run of the Indian Stock Markets today and not the other kind yo! Hope this makes any investor who lost a lot of money today smile a bit. The National Stock exchange of India and NIFTY yesterday shed so much cash and points due to profit booking by Foreign Institutional Investors or FII that the whole country was shell shocked, that is it no other word for it. From 22000 levels, the sensex closed somewhere in the 14000 mark today. Many many people lost tons of cash in this unfortunate episode which was primarily triggered by the grim outlook on American and European economies. I am one of the guys who was up until yesterday feeling left out because I hadn't invested much and the bull run had lasted almost a couple of years with a few hick ups here and there. But

Pakistan Elections Delayed, luckily for the country....
2008-01-06 15:37:35
Many in the Pakistan i media and elsewhere were relieved when the decission to postpone the national Elections was announced formally by the Election Commission of Pakistan. As is making headlines, the election comission has decided to postpone the elections to February 18th, the only right thing to do for a country in utter chaos. The election commission also admitted that polling can not take place Jan. 8, in part because polling offices and voter rolls have been destroyed in the days of rioting that followed Bhutto's murder. The really really shady attempt to cover up facts about Bhutto's assasination have also been acknowledged in a round about way! A 'Scotland Yard' team to investigate the assasination plot has been called ... Though one knows that the scotland yard investigation is ju
