Romance in Bollywood, Bollywood Romance, Are love stories being made in Bollywood? 2007-09-02 07:40:00 Bollywood romance Romance
in Bollywood movies have taken a back seat.Have people forgotten what is to be in love? Well, it seems like if Bollywood definitely has. The mellifluous ethereal feeling of love has been replaced by comedy, thriller and topics on infidelity. The age old recipe of success-Boy meets Girl is no more in the scene. The last Bollywood love story was Hum Tum released three years ago in 2004. Between the years 2002 to 2004, there have been successful and experimental love stories in the form of Saathiya, Chalte Chalte, Hum Tum and Veerz Zara. After 2004, Bollywood has not shown much of an interest in romance In fact, there is no suitable replacement to Shahrukh Khan or Salman Khan who played the lover boy roles reasonably well in their times. Shahrukh donned the role of Don and is now presently riding high after leading his all girl hockey team to box-office success in Chak De. Salman Khan on the other hand is choosing ‘humor’ as his cup of tea; his movie Pa
Sex in Bollywood films? Does it really matter? 2007-09-02 03:12:00 Sex in Bollywood films is a part and parcel of entertainment. The most successful adult Hindi film so far ‘Murder’ released in 2004 bears testimony to this. Although adapted by the Hollywood flick ‘Unfaithful’ Murder become a nationwide hit thanks to the sleaze and the love-making scenes of Mallika Shararat (sorry Sherawat). Neha Dhupia did an encore in the cheaply made but sleazy Julie which was a surprise hit. The movie was for the mass, to bait (please don’t treat these three words as single) and the junta loved it. Neha Dhupia was so much convinced that her quote “only sex and Shahrukh sell” become more famous than her. However, these bold girls had to take back their words when Neha Dhupia’s bolder movie Sheesha flopped and Mallika’s cleavage revealing ‘Back ke rehna re baba’ had audience screaming just that. Now Mallika has been relegated to the slutty character that lusts after the hero and gets nothing in the end…she did that in movies like Guru, Read more:matter
2007 Bollywood Sports in movies. 2007-08-28 06:33:00 2007 award for films may be anybody’s taking..it may be too early to judge, but the theme of the year definitely is sports. 2007 Bollywood has seen a lot many surprises with big budget movies
flopping and underdogs like cheeni-kum and Bheja Fry doing wonderfully well. There is already a familiar but adorable trend witnessed in the Bollywood 2007-sports. The theme of the year in Bollywood 2007 seems to be sports. If Saif played to win, hum a song, lose, hum a song, win yet again and hum a song once again in Ta Ra Rum Pum, Shahrukh Khan coached his all girl hockey team to an astounding victory in Chak de. Coach Coach hota hain! The uncanny thing was all the films made on cricket this year failed. Sports
was never a winning formula in Bollywood previously although in the last five years, all that has changed with movies like Bend it like Beckham, Iqbaal and of course Lagaan doing amazing well. Everyone likes to rejoice in the triumph of human spirit. Inspite of a han
Dhamaal- Mother of all comedies 2007-09-15 13:53:00 Dhamaal is joy ride at its best. After the inconsequential Pyaare Mohan, we were all wondering if Inder Kumar had lost his marbles. But he had hit back with a comic vengeance. His Dhamaal is his best in his repertoire of comedies. Dhamaal is Mr. Bean meeting the Carry on Series. The story: Well, there is none…to tell it in just a line(well, it is a one-lined story anyway), four good for nothing losers and a policeman are in search of a 10 crore treasure hidden underground in Goa. The screenplay takes over and the madness begins. Well, if you are trying to make sense of Dhamaal, then it is not for you. But if you want slap stick comedy, Dhamaal is your cup of milk..oops tea. Dhamaal is inspired by: Well Dhamaal takes its ideas from various movies Mr.Bean’s Holiday, Mr.Bean TV series, Mad-Mad world and SMS jokes. Dhamaal’s plus points: 1. Racy film-The movie takes off rather than moves. 2. In terms of scenes, the airplane scene, the Vinay Apte
Ram Gopal Verma-Yeh AAG kab Bujegi?- Case study-Ram Gopal Verma 2007-09-09 07:13:00 Ram GopalVerma
is/was(whatever way you put it) the director whose maverick madness bordered on the wrong side of genius. If this sentence seems complex, let me tell you that it pales in comparision to the complex persona of Ram Gopal
Verma.Ram Gopal Verma's world existed beyond the harra-barra kheth and the boy meets girl and the parents dont approve world. He made films about exploited girls, confused men, underworld, dreadful children, people with stars in their eyes..He captured dreams and nightmare with equal amount of expertise. Satya and Rangeela are two of the movies which still remain so fresh as if they were released just a week ago..Ram Gopal Verma ain't dead and this is no obituary. But his movies are..The tragedy is that he will have to live with the fact that Ram Gopal Verma ki AAG has the undisputed distinction of being the biggest flop of Bollywood in this century (dont look at me, I ain't saying this..it is the critic Amod Mehra reading out of the trade magazines) Read more:Case study
Director’s choice-Best and worst Bollywood directors 2007-09-09 02:39:00 Unlike Bollywood stars, who find it relatively easy to resurge back to fame after five flops in a row, things are no cozy for directors. Ram Gopal Verma, the maverick director whose film Satya (the only film to get a 5 Star rating in Times of India) epitomized as a work of class and genius has disappointed Bollywood with ‘Ram Gopal Verma ki Aag.’ The movie which was supposed to be a tribute to the classic superhit Sholay ended up as an insulting parody, and that too with dollops of boredom. The Mumbai Mirror has reportedly stated that it takes three flops in a row for Bollywood directors to bite dust. If you can make turn around and make a good commercially successful movie after the first couple of disappointments, you may still be in the reckoning. If you still don’t mend your ways, you are as good as forgotten unless you enjoy some goodwill in the industry. As we all know, Bollywood has a short attention span. Heyy Babyy- One of the biggest hits of 2007, Heyy Babby's best scenes and songs, Heyy Babby one more comedy of 2007 2007-10-02 05:54:00 Heyy Babyy has been certified as a superhit all over India. Initially Heyy Babyy began to work in multiplexes but during the passing weeks, the movie began to perform exceedingly well in smaller theaters and interiors. The success of Heyy Babby lies in its universal appeal and the magic of the baby Johaina. It is appealing to the masses and the classes at the same time. The movie has everything- hot women, cool men, humor, emotions, great music and one thing which movies do not usually have-a baby. The non-filmi peaceful baby is the pivotal point of the movie Heyy Babby. The story of Heyy Babby: Heyy Babby is a story about three busy men Aarush (Akshay Kumar), Tanmay(Riteish Deshmukh) and Fardeen Khan(Ali) who are big time womanizers. Their sex lives and professional lives go out for a toss when a baby lands at their door step. They cannot figure out who the father of the baby is but somehow try to take care of the baby in their own stupid manner. However the baby becomes too much of Read more:scenes

Who is the box office king? Badshah Shahrukh Khan or Khiladi Akshay Kumar? 2007-10-24 22:40:00 Who is the number 1 Bollywood star today? Though both Shahrukh
Khan and AkshayKumar
say that they dont believe in numbers...(even I don't)...numbers do count(no pun intended!). So let us see who is the best of the lot..Let the junta decide.. Please vote in the month long poll and let us find out who is the hottest actor among the two: Shahrukh Khan has been the undisputed king of the box office
for the last 15 years. With a brilliant career and some pathbreaking films like Dilwale Dulhaniya le Jayenge, Swades and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, he has made it known that he is the most versatile actor in Bollywood. Though cynics has stated that he is just good in romantic films or has a hamming style of acting, Shahrukh Khan has silenced his critics by coming with movies like Chak De India (2007) and Swades. SRK is a darling of the critics, he is a role model of most youngsters and heart-throb of scores of women. Shahrukh Khan makes for a great copy in interviews and is a media’s darli

in their respective movies. You are welcome to give your comments: Given below is the compiled list of the best ever performances from our male Bollywood stars
. The list has been compiled by speaking to over 100 people and conducting a survey to find the best performances by each individual. Their performances have nothing to do with their awards received. It is on the basis of how the junta or the public perceived the performances. Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan are the trio who have been acknowledged to give their all time best performances three times!Bollywood actors' best performances: 1. Shahrukh Khan- Devdas, Swades and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (Om shanti Om threatens to be included too!) 2. Amitabh Bachchan-Black, Zanjeer and Agneepath 3. Aamir Khan-Rangeela, Raja Hindustani and Lagaan 4. Akshay Kumar-Garam Masala, and Ajnabee 5. Anil Kapoor- Viraasat and Beta 6. Sa
Happy Birthday Shahrukh Khan...Happy Birthday SRK 2007-10-31 03:17:00 Happy birthday to SRK-Bollywood’s baadshah and super achiever! His fans, including me admire him for his wit, his confidence and his ability to take risks. SRK took risks at every turn of his career be it in the choice of movies or hosting a KBC. He took a risk playing a negative role in Baazigar which most actors would not touch with a bargepole. SRK then risked distributing Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, because the movie lacked a ‘saleable’ factor, as SRK wasn’t really a star then. SRK risked doing a classic like Devdas and again risked playing with a timeless hit –Don-The chase begins. All these movies proved to be stepping stones in SRK’s claim to fame.Once Anil Kapoor had remarked to SRK,”Tum actor ho…Kaha ads-wads ke chakkar pe pad rahein ho?” This was during the time when actors lived in seclusion and would think below their dignity to appear in television commercials. Nevertheless SRK forego the risk of overexposure, because he believed in the power of brand equity, Read more:Happy

Saawariya and Om Shanti Om Review-Which one is better? 2007-11-10 04:02:00 I saw Om Shanti Om and Saawaariya on the Diwali Day. This weekend was probably the hottest for Bollywood fans because it had arguably the best director of India pitted against the biggest star of India. On the first day, reports started pouring in about both the high profile movies. The Mumbai Mirror carried the movie reviews as front page news! It gave an unflattering two diyas (read stars) to Saawariya and three diyas (read stars, of course!) to Om Shanti Om. As they usually do, reviews paralysed my friend's mind and he backed off from watching Saawariya. As it is, he had taken a beating in his mind watching two dismal movies Jab We Met, and the highly forgettable Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag.Left with no choice I went and sat through(I must say) both the movies on the destined day, Friday. Saawariya I must say is a visual treat. It is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's tribute to Baz Luhrmaan's Moulin Rouge. The visuals, the sets and the opulence of Saawariya is USP of the film. The movie is an Read more:better

Review Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal- Footloose! 2007-11-25 13:01:00 Review of Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’s main fault is that it arrived after Chak de. So it gives you a déjà vu feeling. There is not much you can do with a sport subject. You have no other option but to show the underdog getting it right in the finale. In the beginning you can show feelings of aspiration, remorse, frustration, despair only to change into joy and triumph in the end. That is what Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal does. Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal plays to the field but unfortunately it deviates from its main course (some thing which Chak de never did) and goes astray. There are some flaws which stick out like sore thumbs in Goal. However to the movie’s credit, the film is yet another attempt to create something different and there are some brilliant scenes and moments in Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal. If not for the mistakes in Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal whose flaws unfortunately exceed its plus points, the movie would have been great. First the plus points: 1. Scen
Filmfare Awards 2008? A 'calculated' prediction on Bollywood Awards 2007 2007-12-09 02:37:00 --->Don't tell me it is SRK once again!Fast forward yourself a few months from now to the spree of Bollywood Awards
2007.By now I am habituated to the way awards are handed out to Bollywood films and film personalities year after year (no I ain't talking about buying "em). Whether it is Filmfare
Awards, Screen Award, Zee Cine Awards, Sansui Awards, Stardust award, Moonlitnite award (okay the last one does not exist) we know the winners are more or less the same. Except that some award functions are a little more biased (remember Zee Cine Awards giving the best movie to Gadar once when Lagaan hogged the limelight, simply because Gadar was produced by Zee entertainment), while there are other award shows that give a best movie award to a different movie just to "appear' different. The best of the lot however is the Filmfare Award which seeks to satisfy everybody (even Aamir Khan) by giving awards to one and all of the bright fraternity. Filmfare excels in giving special awards if Read more:Filmfare Awards
Darsheel Safary- "Taara Zameen' Par, a star is born! 2007-12-25 11:58:00 Let us give it upto the newest and the youngest star of Bollywood-Darsheel Safari. The ten year old actor has performed like a veteran in the flavor of the year Taare Zameen
Par. Aamir Khan's directorial vehicle Taare Zameen Par is a winner all the way; with a lot of plus points, with the biggest being Darsheel Safary. Darsheel Safari played the role of dyslexic really well. You can praise him till dogs come home. Darsheel is a student of Greenlawns High School and an apple of every girl' eye who are simply flipping over his cute rabbit toothed smile. It is not every day that you can be cuter than SRK and more effective than Aamir Khan, at the same time.. Well for all of those who want to know how Darsheel managed his studies while working hard to giving a possibly award winning performance, it was Aamir Khan who saw to it that the boy never lost out on his studies. Darsheel Safary would be advised to sleep by 10 at night and had an on-set tutor who would teach him so that
Bollywood movies 2007, Bollywood Hits and Misses-how our stars shone!! 2007-12-22 10:28:00 "Awards Abhi Baaki Hain, Mere Dost!"This is perhaps my last post of 2007, even though I may spare time to write the review for Welcome. Last heard, even Welcome is doing a good business.2007 has been a good year for Bollywood with innovative themed films like Bheja Fry, Chak de, Life in a Metro and Taare Zameen Par. We saw smart movie-making ,packaging and marketing win as Om Shanti Om swept away the competition. It was the year of the three Khans and a Kumar. Salman Khan gave one of the biggest hits of his career in the form of Partner while SRK gave two of the biggest hit in Bollywood-Om Shanti Om and Chak de. He thrilled his fans in OSO and silenced his critics in Chak De. Aamir Khan showed that he is an encylopadiea when it comes to movie making and performing with Taaren Zameen Par.This movie will go down as a must watch for all parents. But the year belonged to Rajeev Bhatia...Raajeev Bhatia who????? Aamir Khan's is heading in the right DIRECTION 2007-12-22 09:56:00 " I wonder why people look at my hair every time I say CUT "Aamir
Khan in Taare Zameen Par has demonstrated unique flair for direction. He is one person who will never let his fans down and will take every step to see that each scene is an institution by itself. There have been speculations that Aamir Khan
has directed(ghost directed, interferred, gave inputs-words flow thick and fast) some of his earlier movies too which the actor has denied. There have been a lot of filmmakers who have stated that Aamir Khan's inputs are always to the betterment of the film. The best example is Taare Zameen Par
Movie Review Taare Zameen Par-As perfect as Aamir Khan 2007-12-22 09:30:00 Taare Zameen
Par movie reviewTaare Zameen Par makes Filmfare Awards 2008-A calculated prediction on Bollywood Awards for movies released on 2007 even tougher for me. What a way to end the year! Taare Zameen Par is surely one of the milestone movies in Bollywood. It will be tougher to give the Best movie critics award since Chak De can get some real tough competition from Taare Zameen Par. It surely is my favorite movie of 2007.Want to know what movies are and how they should be made? Go the Aamir

's tagline "every child is special' suits the theme of the movie to the hilt. Not just the child, the movie is special too. Aamir Khan has valiantly gone ahead and chose a never before discussed topic in main-stream cinema-dyslexia. Similarity between Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan 2008-03-09 22:04:08 Both Shahrukh

Khan are the show-stoppers of the nation. The King is different from the Ace but both have played a huge role in giving the most successful, interesting and entertaining films in the past 17 years. Let us look at the similarity between Shahrukh Khan
and Aamir Khan: Both are superstars and equally popular. Both SRK and Aamir Khan have an average release of 2 movies every year. Both Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan have given their best performances with Ashtuosh Gowariker. Both of them looked stylish and hep in Farhan Akhtar's movies...Aamir for Dil Chahta Hai and SRK for Don-The Chase BeginsBoth are of the same age, 42.Both SRK and Aamir Khan gave two of the biggest hits of 2007-Om Shanti Om(SRK) and Taare Zameen Par(Aamir Khan)Both played different but successful Read more:Similarity
Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar at Filmfare Awards 2008-03-05 14:25:14 I happened to lay my hand on the issue of Mid-day dated 28 Feb’ 2007, where AkshayKumar
was reported to have taken a dig at SRK’s expense and that a cold war was evident. I believed the story like many and being a person of average intelligence, became party to the rumors floating around. We understood how wrong we were when the 53rd Annual Filmfare
awards 2008 was actually telecast on TV.Here is a pure case of journalism going over the top and exaggerating things. This may be a small matter; an inconsequential one but it just goes to show that print media can write just about anything(most of it untrue) to create sensationalism and spread wrong signals. On February 23rd’08 Mid-day, the famous newspaper in Mumbai reported that the digs made by Saif and Shahrukh
went so far that Aksh Read more:Shahrukh Khan

awards 2008 are finally out. Akshay Kumar fans are in for disappointment as he did not win a single award. We had predicted that he’d get the Best Actor in a Comic Role for atleast one of the 5 back to back hits he had given. Sadly the category itself was scrapped out this time. It is ironical because comedy was the toast of the year 2007. Ditto for the Filmfare Award in a Negative Role, there was no award itself…God knows why, Viveik Oberoi and Arjun Rampal who were supposed to be favorites in this category have not got their due. Now for the report card. …Shahrukh Khan won the Filmfare Best Actor award 2008 for his underplayed role of a hockey coach in Chak De India. This time Shahrukh Khan

Movie Review Jodhaa Akbar: Jodhaa Akbar has class but…. 2008-02-17 10:52:25 Many happy returns of the year(not just a day) for Ashtuosh Gowariker for directing Jodhaa Akbar
very well. The movie did take a long time in its making but the outcome is worth it. However, quite expectedly, you cannot anticipate the masses to really love the movie. The first half of the movie is rather long(the movie itself is 3 and a half hours in length) and there are some scenes in the first half which seem to be long-drawn. They could well have been trimmed. Technicalities: Full marks to Ashutosh and his team including script writers K.P. Saxena and Haider Ali who have worked hard and meticulously to come up with the mood and the feel of the Moghul era at the screenplay level itself. Music by A.R.Rahman, including the background score is relevant and does not overwhelm the movie Read more:class

U, Me aur Hum inspired by the Notebook? 2008-02-15 13:33:39 Ajay Devgan has turned director with U, Me aur Hum. It will be a family show with Kajol and Ajay Devgan starring in the film. If reports and rumors are to be believed, U, Me aur Hum has been inspired by the Hollywood hit The Notebook
. The script of the movie The Notebook is an adaptation of the novel ‘The Notebook’ written by Nicholas Spark. It is an epic romance of an old man who reads out from an old pale notebook to an old handicapped woman whom he regularly visits. The old man tells her of the story of a couple who were separated by World War II, and then reunited seven years later. Although her memory has given way, the words of the elder man awakens her to the cherished love they used to share. It remains to be seen how they have incorporated Indian elements in U, Me aur Hum
Five Point Someone to be made with Aamir Khan 2008-02-15 13:31:36 ----> I am someone with 5 points!Aamir
Khan and Kareena Kapoor will team up together for the first time in Raj Kumar Hirani’s film, an adaptation of the most successful youth novel in India Five Point Some. The book Five Point Someone written by Chetan Bhagat is pacy and humorous at the same time with a “Dil Chahta Hai” feel to it. The story is about three guys Ryan, Alok and Hari(which may be played by Aamir Khan
) who are trapped in a rut called IIT. It is a warm story about friendship and romance with an IIT background. The script the movie based on Five Point Someone had exchanged several hands. Will Jodhaa Akbar be a hit? 2008-02-09 11:17:21 Bollywood has not been known to be kind to movies that are based on history. Very less producers have taken risks with history based subjects. Except for Mughal-e-Azam, there hasn’t be any history based movie that has been a hit in India. When they tried history with Ashoka, Shahrukh Khan had to almost renounce his “king” status. His production company lost a lot of money back to back in Phir Bhi Dil Hain Hindustani and Ashoka, and he played safe in his next production Chalte Chalte, which resurrected the Khan. Similarly, Aamir Khan met with disappointment when he touched history with The Rising-Mangal Pandey. Though the subject itself had very less research matter, Aamir Khan tried his best but the movie did not work. Aashutosh Gowariker, one of the best talents in Bollywood is to Read more:Akbar
Will Darsheel Safary win the Filmfare Best Actor Award? 2008-02-09 10:51:02 In FilmfareAward
2008, A Calculated Prediction, I had predicted that Darsheel Safary would win the Best Actor
Award for Taare Zameen Par this time breaking the trend of an adult actor winning the award everytime. Of course, the prediction has not yet come true..not yet; but there is a sure glimmer of hope that the little master Darsheel will sweep the Best Actor trophy this time…. And why shouldn’t he? The boy’s performance was simply the best. If I could find any other superlative word for the performance, I would have used that. Darsheel Safary has made the likes of L.K. Advani, Shatrughan Sinha weep with his performance. This is no child’s play to give such an impactful performance. Some of the high impact performances of Darsheel Safary are: 1. When he runs up the ter
