A few days ago I received a Landmark from Isadora Fiddlestick, a friend in Second Life, to her new business office. Isadora Fiddlestick is also the publisher of Hodge Podge Variety Magazine your guide to an easier and informed Second Life inworld magazine dedicated to bringing the best in Second Life and its wonders. The magazine also focuses on helping residents out in making informed choices and be in the loop of people, places, things and events in Second Life. These past few days I found my Second Life plagued with slow movements, high packet loss, rezzing failure, disconnection, crashes, missing assets, inability to login, getting trapped in a logout loop and others but the worst of them all is the extreme lag. Paid My New Hosting with Linden Dollars

Well, not exactly with Linden Dollars but from the $USD I got by converting the Linden Dollars I earned through the many linden dollar earning  opportunities available in Second Life. I moved all my sites, including Kabalyero, from my old host, Site5, to Bluehost and I paid it with the money I earned from Second Life. I wasn’t really planning on moving to a new host. The decision came after learning that Site5 will no longer accept or is no longer accepting specialized cards like Electron and Maestro which was bad news for me since my card is an Electron card. My hosting will expire this December and that’s just a few days (more or less 2 weeks) from now. So I converted some Linden Dollars to $USD, withdrew it through PayPal and paid Bluehost for my new web hosting. Why Bluehost? This Camping spot was shared by Triges Mayo. He/She said that the owner needs a lot of traffic to the place. I went there to check it out and there were 2 Camping Benches paying campers 3L$ per 10 Minutes. Each Camping bench can accommodate 3 campers for a total of 6 campers. Computer Freezes with Second Life

Yesterday, while I was redoing the inside of my place, 3 Stars and a Sun, in Scaramanga, my computer froze for no apparent reason. I waited for a few minutes but getting no activity after that I booted my system. I still didn’t know what happened. I assumed that it was just some random quirks. So, I loaded Second Life again to continue with my work and after a few seconds my computer froze again. I repeated it a few times but got the same result. Thinking that it could be my computer that’s having some problem, I did some test to find out. I cleaned my registry, scanned for viruses, defragged my hard drives, etc. I also cleared my Second Life cache and even downgraded my Second Life client. Nothing worked, my computer still keeps on freezing. Even OnRez freezes my computer. Other more resource intensive games like Guild Wars and City of Villains ran smoothly but with Second Life it freezes and this only happened yesterday. Since nothing was working, I stopped trying. A Buggy Second Life

I tried to login into Second Life just now but an error message greeted me. The error message was “Login Failed. The inventory system is currently unavailable!” Before I was only freezing but now I can’t login and reading through Second Life’s official blog it seems that I’m not the only who experienced this error. Many residents are experiencing this login error and according to the blog that this error “is likely to last until tomorrow”!!! A few residents are saying that the problem is with the user or with the computer running the client and not Second Life. Now, this is untrue because if it was true then why would Linden Labs post updates regarding these errors. There is a problem within the internal system of Second Life and they should find long term solutions for it and not short term ones. I’m still having problems with Second Life and because of that I am not able to do my regular Second Life routine like exploring and looking for Camping spots. Not only that, I plan to create a lot of Christmas Cards but can’t because Second Life won’t let me. Second Life still freezes on me. In fact, I have to use another computer just to give away the prizes. Well, since I can’t login to Second Life without freezing, I played another game instead and that game is Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation. I won’t be earning Linden Dollars from this game but at least I’ll have some good old fun. LOL! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to save my game. Now, I’ll have to repeat everything again. Darn! I think Linden Labs should stabilize the regular or the standard viewer first than spending too much time hyping their Windlight First Look Viewer where not everyone will be able to enjoy because not everyone has a cutting edge gaming machine. I was wondering why I wasn’t getting any survey invites from Reperes-Second Life, so I sent an instant message to Reperes Link and asked her about it. By the way, Reperes Link is a Research Executive at Reperes-Second Life . Today, I received a reply from her and according to her Reperes-Second Life is still very much alive and kicking (not exactly her words but something like that). As I understand it, they are still processing the data they’ve collected from the surveys conducted last September and October. My guess is, that once they’ve finished processing the surveys conducted from the previous 2 months they’ll again send out survey invites to their members. It seems that PGMA (President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo) just got into Second Life. Various news sources have confirmed that our (Philippines) President is now officially a Second Life resident. LOL! Other personalities also activated their avatars in Second Life like Department of Science and Technology Secretary Estrella Alabastro and IBM Executive Vice President for Innovation and Technology Nick Donofrio. Honestly, I don’t know who they are but their titles sounds very important. LOL! The avatars were created by Gabby Dizon of Flipside Games under the direction of IBM Philippines. I wasn’t doing anything important this morning so I decided to give the VPRS Kiosk Kontest a try. Besides Camping and exploring, I am also an aspiring builder (we can dream right?) and this kind of contest is a great learning tool and a great way to exercise and develop some skills. My idea for the Kiosk is to make it really simple and to use a maximum of only 5 prims. I already have a picture of the Kiosk in my mind so after putting together some basic shapes I was able to complete the frame of the kiosk. The next thing I did is create the textures. Using Photoshop and some Stock Photos, I was able to create the textures I needed for the kiosk, so, I logged back in and applied the textures I made to the kiosk. The end product looked like this: The kiosk I made uses a log as base with wooden boards for the signs.
