New Plus Size Resource 2007-08-31 07:36:00 I have discovered a brand new plus size resource called 'Larger Than Life'. This is the first UK based forum site I have come across specifically for the fuller figured woman and I think it is a great idea to have a community where we can air our grievances, give & receive advice & chat to like minded people. The website is brand new so needs your support to make it the true resource it has the potential to be. Check it out now - Larger Than Life. There are also some introductory offers available, specifically a discount code for my favourite plus size clothing shop - Curvety.com.

Are Low Rise Jeans for Curvy Women? 2007-08-30 05:22:00 I came across an interesting article today about plus size women wearing low rise jeans. The author had tested a pair for a day and decided categorically that they AREN'T for plus size women. It occured to me that this generalisation is what can confuse some fabulous ladies with voluptuous curves as fortunately we are all unique. The author says - 'The first 20 minutes were okay but when I decided to sit down all hell broke loose. I felt my back all out and my panties were showing. I began to feel sooo uncomfortable. Well after pulling up my jeans all day and I mean all day. I decided that low-rise jeans aren’t for curvy chicks. I don’t even know why they were made for plus size women. It’s the most uncomfortable thing in the world'.Now I am going to presume that this plus size diva is a pear shape, which means fab hips and curves. Getting jeans to sit just right on this type of curve will always be a bit of a mission, and yes, you would be better finding a pair to sit a bit h Read more:Jeans

AUTUMN O7 THE EVENT DRESS 2007-08-28 08:03:00 According to Vogue one of this season's hottest trends is the good old evening dress. There's a sultry glamour to these sumptuous floor-length gowns which will make this year's party season all the more fun. From pistachio silk to lipstick-pink chiffon, colour gives extra dazzle and infuses another top trend - bold colours. Elbow-length gloves add to the drama but short gloves are the bang-up-to-date option. Be sure not to go mad with the jewellery though or you may over do it. For those who don't like to show too much flesh on the upper arms, a wonderful wrap or shrug will finish the look in style. There has always been a limited choice for plus size women when it comes to eveningwear but Curvety.com always have a wonderful selection in large sizes as they specialise in evening dresses which are cut well to fit the larger frame.
Plus Size Fashion on the Red Carpet 2007-08-23 08:24:00 By now i'm sure you will all have heard of Nikki Blonsky, the talented new star of Hairspray and newest plus size celebrity.Nikki was spotted in London earlier in the year in one of Igigi's fabulous plus size designs. For the LA premiere of Hairspray she has gone one step further and had an Igigi couture dress made especially for her! Based on the Shimmering dress in Copper which is available in the UK from Curvety.com, she has had the style adapted to suit her shorter frame. Nikkie says: 'I wanted to wear something beautiful that shows off my curves in a classy and glamorous way'. I think Nikki looks fab and shows that curvier women can look stunning for that special evening event. Take note and make no excuses next time you have a reason to dress up!

Autumn 07 Cinched Waist 2007-08-22 09:50:00 The new Autumn
/Winter lines are starting to hit the shops and there is much talk of the new season trends. I will be looking at these over the coming weeks but thought I would start the ball rolling with THE hot look - the cinched waist. The stores will be filled with midi length dresses with waist belts plus tie waisted tops, jackets and coats. You can create this look yourself with the right belt. Belts are not always the easiest plus size accessory to find but there is a great selection at Curvety.com in sizes up to a 36.This can be a great look for the more voluptuous amoung us, as maximising & accentuating your curves is the aim - time to celebrate those hips and bum! Choose a good quality material which is forgiving over lumps and bumps and use a fairly sturdy (not too thin as this will widen your waist) belt to cinch tight and you will have the perfect Forties hour glass figure. Size zero's will not stand a chance at matching your style with this look.

The sexy Latina topped the poll even though recent photos show that her bottom has succumbed to cellulite, further proof that au natural is the way to go.Coming in close on JLo’s heels - In second place is the ‘Bootylicious’ Beyonce, reports The Sun. It seems Justin Timberlake has a good eye for the perfect derriere as third and fourth places are taken by current and ex love interest. Third - Jessica Biel and fourth - Cameron Diaz. The list for the top 10 ‘Best Bottoms In Hollywood’, as per The Sun is:1. Jennifer Lopez2. Beyonce3. Jessica Biel4. Cameron Diaz5. Fergie6. Halle Berry7. Eva Longoria8. Kim Kardashian9. Tyra Banks10. Mariah CareyAlthough none of these gorgeous creatures are plus size, neither are they size zero waifs. The importance of good underwear 2007-07-25 05:25:00 In fashion in general there is a distrubing new trend which is fast on the rise - women wearing the wrong underwear. It is a sure fire way to ruin an outfit and it's not just bras. I am talking about knickers, body shapers, camis, all undies!Wearing the right size is everything, even more so than getting it right in your regular clothing. To arrive at the right size in underwear you should be measured at least once a year. This isn't as difficult as you'd think - just go to your local department store and ask a sales associate to measure your bust, waist and hips.Once the size is right you need to find a comfortable fit and great support. You want items that will smooth and flatter your curves, helping your clothing to drape over them in a flattering way. For example, body shapers work best when worn with a dress or skirt. They provide a smoothing quality that streamlines your shape and softens your curves. Choose full body shapers for dresses and half-styles for skirts. The character

Style Tips for High Waist trousers in plus sizes 2007-07-19 07:13:00 The latest trend for high-waist trousers and jeans can make even the smallest & pertest of bottoms look large. So - How do you carry off these latest styles?Firstly it is essential to distract attention away from your behind. Pockets or anything that adds volume to your bum are a big no-no. When buying new trousers go for wider loose legged or straight styles. Avoid tapered trousers if you have wide hips - Boot-cut trousers will balance out wider hips. A deep waistband will make your bottom look half the size, while wide-cut legs will hide a less than toned bum.Dark colours are slimming so wearing darker trousers with a bright top will draw the eye way from your bottom. Avoid the opposite combination & shiny materials at all costs, both will accentuate your bottom and make it look larger.Try wearing heels with full length wide trousers long enough to cover your shoes. Finally, if you’re going to wear a jacket it should cover your bottom. Short jackets will exaggerate the width of you Read more:sizes

Curvy Fern Britton turns 50 2007-07-16 11:29:00 As tomorrow is the her 50th birthday I wanted to pay homage to Fern Britton, one of my favourite UK plus size celebrities.Fern is a wonderful role model for women throughout the UK as she truly comes across as someone comfortable in her own skin. She always looks fabulous because she dresses well & looks content with who she is, weight included. She is a beautiful woman who has a large male fan base, plus a scrummy celebrity chef husband. Fern is well liked and admired by colleagues, friends and the general UK public, both for personality and presenting ability. Isn't that a more healthy role model than the super slim icons who encourage eating disorders in young women?Fern has typically been criticised in celebrity magazines and newspaper columns about her weight and body image after photographs of her emerged on holiday in a swimming costume. Fern hit back at the abuse she received saying 'I would rather be big and happy than on a diet and miserable'.Fern also seems to love an oppo Read more:turns
Romantic dresses in plus sizes 2007-07-13 05:59:00 With the number of beautiful dresses available this season, here is some advice on picking the right one for you. Romanticism rules at the moment with dresses being festooned with embroidery, jewels, and lace, so find one for sensual summer evenings in a juicy jewel color like this one from Igigi, available in the UK at Curvety.com. Know Your Shape: Flatter a larger bust with a wider scoop neckline for summer, or a tummy with a flattering empire waist. Try to find a dress with a sash to cinch the waist slightly and add a trendy touch.

Gossip about plus sizes in Topshop 2007-07-11 11:33:00 You may remember that I recently wrote about Beth Ditto refusing a gig at Topshop
's flagship store as they didn't cater for her size. It seems she struck a nerve as, although a link-up has yet to be confirmed, the singer declared she is currently talking to the clothes shop about a range.'I'm in talks to do something with them at the moment,' she told London's The Sun. 'I love their stuff.'New Look are currently refusing to comment so time will tell if anything will come of this. However, it's refreshing that the high street is finally taking the possiblity of plus size seriously and following the already rapidly growing online market with brands such as Curvety.com. Even if a massive icon is needed to push them in the right direction.

Building the perfect plus size wardrobe 2007-07-10 11:09:00 When shopping most women buy single items that catch their eye rather than an antire outfit, which can be expensive to buy all at once. But have you ever got home to find that the special item you bought doesn't quite match anything in your wardrobe? This is why building a selection of good basics is essential. One special item will be enough to make it look like you've spent a fortune on each and every shopping trip.Firstly, stock up on good quality underwear in black and white. Make sure a couple have pretty straps which you wouldnt mind showing off with certain outfits.Invest in a selection of different coloured basic cami tops which can be worn under cardigans and jackets, they will also be useful for layering.Select a couple of pairs of jeans in varying shades in a shape that suits you but isn't high trend. jeans can be dressed up or down easily which makes them very versatile. It is essential to have a pair of black trousers, and a skirt. Both can be used for every occasion from Read more:Building
Fashion in the rain 2007-07-05 11:56:00 This year summer is looking to be a complete wash out. Across the country you can hear the same conversation - When is the rain going to stop! The constant rain seems to be a natural depressant - instead of planning sunny picnics in the park and days at the coast, most of us find ourselves saying - what do we do now? It also causes its fair share of problems when choosing an outfit for the day. The occasional appearance of the sun makes it too hot for our winter warmers, but the constant threat of a downpour pretty much wipes out any possibility of sandals! We are fortunate that this seasons style can be adapted to keep us warm but with the summer look we all crave at this time of year. Try adding some bold on trend summer colours like this green chiffon dress. To keep you warmer and dryer pair with ballet shoes & leggings rather than tights which are too warm even with the rain!Maybe the sunny colours of this long length halter tunic/ short dress will help with the summer vibe. The Amazing Diet Plate 2007-06-28 06:14:00 A British made tool named the diet plate has recently been put to test in the US with amazing weight loss results.A group of overweight people who also suffer from diabetes used the plate for 6 months and were able to lose weight and reduce the need for diabetes medication. The plate is designed to make portion measurement much easier - by showing portion sizes of carbohydrates, proteins, vegetables etc.Of those who used the plate for six months, 17 percent lost 5 percent or more of their weight, an amount considered clinically important because it cuts risks of obesity-related conditions like heart disease and cancer. In the group that didn’t use the plate, fewer than one person in 20 lost a clinically important amount. There are different plates for men and women and I think it is a great idea to give some transparency to what you are eating. Rather than rely on weight loss gimmicks, this will teach you long term habits which you need to eat a healthy balanced diet. this has many he Read more:Amazing

Dove Evolution Ad wins award 2007-06-26 08:59:00 You may or may not have seen Dove's viral marketing video titled 'evolution' where a normal attractive woman is made up and then digitally enhanced to perfection in order to be shown on a bill board. The final tag line being - 'No wonder our perception of beauty is distorted'.In what is described as ground breaking for web marketing, the viral advertisement won the Grand Prix at the 54th Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival this weekend. The 74 second video has caused a stir online and can be viewed at Utube and similar sites. Dove have always been advocates of using normal, healthy looking women in their advertising - to include older women, plus sizes, and women of all shapes and sizes, and deserve high praise for this. Jen Hunter loses battle against fashion industry 2007-09-21 11:10:00 Jen Hunter
won the hearts of the British public in the television series 'Make Me A Supermodel' when she refused to lose weight for the judges even after constant pressure to do so.Miss Hunter, who is 5ft 11in and weighs 11 stone was shocked by judges, including model Rachel Hunter, who described her as 'fat, lazy and greedy' while competing in the 2006 reality show.Despite being voted the leading female by the public, Jen was not given a contract by chosen agency Select, who instead booked sub-zero Marianne Berglund - known as the 'walking skeleton'.Cape Management, a mainstream agency who were impressed by her attitude and the impression she had on the public then stepped in to offer Miss Hunter work - the first size 12 on their books.A happy ending? Unfortunately not.Repeated knock-backs at catwalk castings have forced Jen to quit the mainstream agency to join one for plus size women - despite being below the average size.Jen said: 'I'm grateful to the Cape Model agency for Read more:against

Size Zero Debate resumes with London Fashion Week 2007-09-17 09:05:00 Last year, the death of an anorexic model in Brazil was the catalyst for world wide debate on size zero. This prompted the introduction of minimum BMI requirements at fashion Weeks in Milan & Madrid. The continued spotlight on the size zero debate has since seen a number of highly publicised deaths caused by eating disorders in the modelling industry.Despite this, London was refused to follow suit and has not banned underweight models from the catwalk. In an article by a member of the British Fashion
Council - the organising body responsible for the staging of London Fashion Week
- I found attempted justification. The article explained that 'size zero' is not a real term in the UK and is only used for effect in the media. The author further justifies that by banning a BMI of under 18 it is patronising these girls, who would be being treated as if they were brainless pieces of meat, unable to think for themselves. It is true that size zero is not UK sizing, it is actually the equive Read more:Debate

To be or not to be Body Conscious 2007-09-13 06:41:00 From a young age I have been a plus size and at times I have been extremely unhappy with my body, blaming it for failings in other areas of my life. All of my friends were thin and seemingly happy. It was not until recently I realised that many of them were much more unhappy with their lot than I. A few members of my extended group of girl friends have now opted for surgery, a fourth, one of my best friends has real issues with the size of her breasts and there is no doubt that at some point she will follow suit. Are they happier? Maybe, maybe not - the reasons behind their feelings of inadequacy are there's to come to terms with but it goes to show that insecurities, justified or not, are part of everyone's lives, regardless of how good they actually look. Now I know this happens daily throughout the world, but for me it was a huge eye opener. To see women that I have compared myself to over the years, and mostly found myself lacking, are so conscious of their flaws that they are will
