Ties That Bind
2007-11-06 12:09:39
We are approaching the final chapter of a year long outreach mission project with Children’s Ministries and Missions at Mt. Bethel UMC. In Christmas of 2006 we sent a few blankets, that were made by children during summer Vacation Bible School programs, with a mission team to Atacucho, Ecuador. The Director of Missions was thrilled by the excitement of the children that received the blankets, but we only sent a few…there was a much greater need. As Children’s Ministries developed a new program on Wednesday nights for Mothers and their tween daughters (GOD’s G.I.R.L.S.) we adopted this project as a weekly mission to make more blankets for the children in Ecuador. Something beautiful happened each week the girls and their moms got together and tied knots between two pieces of fleece. Relationships grew, Christian service was modeled and mentored, and a hunger was put on the hearts of all who prayed and tied the blankets. Our Youth adopted this mission project

Happenings Around the Church — In Defense of United Methodism
2007-11-28 12:02:28
I received this e-mail from Dr. Riley B. Case and wanted to share it with all of you. Randy ——————– Evangelical United Methodists are sometimes seen as malcontents when it comes to complaining about the denomination. It is not uncommon to hear: “United Methodism is far too liberal”; “United Methodism has lost its way”; “United Methodism is apostate.” These remarks should be seen as within the family. When it comes to outsiders, we don’t like to see our denomination under attack. So the UM evangelical reaction to this characterization of the United Methodist Church in Joel Belz’s editorial in the November 11 issue of World magazine: It would be hard to find two denominations that more vividly characterize the anti-evangelical spirit that became repulsive to such hard-core evangelicals than the United Church of Christ (Barack Obama’s denomination) and the United Methodist Church (John Edw

View the Rick Schatz presentation online
2007-11-28 09:11:49
A few weeks ago I went to see Rick Schatz speak in the Sanctuary (Rick is the President & CEO for the National Coalition for the Safety of Families and Children). He had some very enlightening things to say about our kids and how they are overly exposed to sexual content via Internet, TV, print media, etc. If you didn’t have a chance to see him (or you’d like to see him again), you can view the video below. You won’t be sorry. Johnna

Connecting with the manger…where will you go?
2007-12-03 09:25:28
The first year I brought my children to the live nativity at Mt. Bethel I had hopes of a deep rich spiritual connection for my family.  The December night air was crisp and cool,  and my husband and I began to share the story with our children as we approached the humble manger scene.  As we walked up to the cradle we realized our children were both distracted by other activity around the manger.  My son was fascinated with the chicken, and later cried because the chicken wouldn’t stop running so he could pick it up and love on it.  My daughter was enjoying the warmth from a little pit fire close by,  and visiting with friends.  Not the connection I had hoped for at all that night at the live nativity. As I watched my children I began to reflect on my personal experience with the live nativity.  As a child I was amazed by the angel and thought that was the miracle of the story.  When I met Jesus for the first time I made a connection with the baby in the cradle.  The

Mt. Bethel hosts hope4christmas® party for Camp Hope®
2007-12-19 12:43:31
On Saturday, December 15th, Mt. Bethel hosted over 300 for the annual hope4christmas® party. For the first time this year, campers' parents were invited to attend so they had the opportunity to meet the staff and counselors of Camp Hope®. It was a wonderful time of fellowship for the campers and counselors - it brought such joy to see them reunite with hugs and high-fives. The party included a delicious pancake breakfast that was later topped off with sugar cookies for the campers to decorate! Each table was festively decorated by the 5th grade classes of Mt. Bethel Christian Academy. Everyone had a great time writing Christmas cards that would be sent to soldiers in Iraq and singing Christmas carols. Rev. Diane Parrish led the group in the "Twelve Days of Christmas" She invited campers and adults to come on stage to sing. The party concluded with campers receiving a Christmas present, a devotional book written by the 5th graders of MBCA, and a CD with pictures from C

Live Nativity at St. Philip UMC
2007-12-19 09:50:03
My family participated in the live Nativity at St Philip . What a wonderful experience! The families really enjoyed the entire day, from the food to the crafts and visit with Santa. But the most wonderful experience was to see their faces as we performed the nativity story. Where there might have been a language barrier, it was erased as the drama of the birth of Christ came to life. Everyone did a awesome job! The love of Christ was so evident, expressed by each volunteer and experienced by each person and family there. It was a blessing to my family and really helped us remember and experience the reason for the season and all the celebration, Jesus! Blessings, Kim

Children's Clothing and Consignment Sale
2007-12-19 09:43:07
Have you heard the GOOD NEWS about the Mt. Bethel Children 's Clothing and Consignment Sale? Every September and March, Mt. Bethel reaches out to the community to resell gently used clothing, books, toys, furniture and strollers. But that is only a part of the good news!! All the proceeds from the sale go right back into the global community! That's right…every penny is redistributed to local charities and foreign missions around the world!! Places like Cobb County Children in Need, Red Bird Mission, AnySoldier.com, Zimbabwe, Romania and Kazakhstan (to name a few!) received over $50,000 in 2007. WOW!! It's a mission of passion that spreads God's love throughout the world!

Why Bother?
2008-02-20 15:25:24
Jesus tells us in Matthew 26:11 that we will always have the poor with us. The question is often asked, “If we will always have the poor, then why bother? Aren’t we just throwing our resources away trying to feed, dress, educate and comfort them?!” Sometimes the same attitude is expressed regarding the non-believer. [...]

Our God Reigns
2008-02-07 13:34:30
In watching Super Bowl XLII, I couldn’t help but think about the different reactions by the “winners” and “losers” to the most watched game in history. While there were 148.3 million people that watched the game with strong feelings and reactions to the underdog, the undefeated, the little brother, the Home team, and the break [...]

Have you ever had a CD that brings you joy from the first to the last song?  A couple years ago I found “that” CD.  It was a contemporary arrangement of classic hymns, and it flooded memories of my grandmother worshipping God from her kitchen.  The music brought me great joy and served as the perfect [...]

This Sunday begins a new series of questions to be addressed in effectively reaching the world for Christ. In these three weeks we will answer “Who’s Jesus , What’s Real, and Who’s my neighbor”. In my growing up years, I was blessed to meet some pretty famous Christian recording artists. One of them had a son who, [...]
