Discussion:How can you physically put your faith in action today? In what circumstance in your life is God calling for you to step out, pick up that stone, and follow Him? How does this quote impact your struggles in this area?Faith is not belief. Belief is passive. Faith is active.Iwas going to take a break from blogging today and just read posts, but I could not let this one go (in fact I think God said I need to meditate on this today). I am struggling today, at first I said "I am just feeling worn out", then I said it is because of some up coming things I am worrying about, but after reading this I think I am struggling with my "active" Faith and God leading me where I am to serve.Currently I am helping 8th grade girls in the middle school room during our bible study time Sunday evenings. Youth are a passion of mine, in all honesty high school first, but since my kids are in middle school that is where I want to serve. Several years ago, I taught a women's bible study gro

"...For I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances."Philippians 4:11Ok I have talked enough of my sweet family this week (soo many birthdays this month...)The everyday thing I am thankful for is that I have a Lord and Savior that is never surprised by circumstances that may arrive, or life changing events that appear, or things that worry us. He is always there, He has promised to never leave or forsake me.In a few days I have some concerns and prayer needed, but I will keep you hanging for now and discuss more later. Today I am just going to rest in Jesus' arms and enjoy a fun weekend with my family, watching football and celebrating the two birthdays we had this week. Have a great weekend.Head on over to Everyday Mommy for more wonderful posts. On a Side note: SEVEN MORE POSTS UNTIL MY 100th POST. So be looking for the 100 more things you may not know about me!!

"...For I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances."Philippians 4:11Today I want to give a shout out to my sister and tell her how thankful I am that she is in my life. I have seen her grow in ways beyond my imagination. I have watched her blossom into a wonderful woman of God.With the 5 year separation between us, life was not always rosy and we always seemed to be on different pages. Until, I would say, the last several years. We are now closer than we ever have been. God broke her and rebuilt her into a woman with a powerful personal testimony that I know He will use to his glory. She has been blessed with two beautiful girls, they are giving her a run for her money and some days she wonders if she is really cut out to be a mommy. I am here to say "J, you are a GOOD mommy". Your girls love you, I love you, and I am sooo excited to see what God does with your testimony.I love you Sis.Why don't you head on over to Jules over at Everyday Mommy . What goes up must come down. That is just the law of physics. It is also a characteristic of (at least my) spiritual highs. I wrote my "Thursday Thank ful" post when I was up, my heart was so full, I was praising God, had the music blaring. When I woke up Thursday morning I felt anything BUT up. I praise God I wrote it the day before. In a way though, it turned out to be such a blessing for me. The comments that I got from you guys, blessed me. Most likely they were nice comments you thought you were leaving, but did not mean anything "deep" about them. Well, let me tell you, you blessed me right down to my toes.Blessings to you today and always.Your words say exactly how I have been feeling. It's nice to come here and be uplifted. What a blessing you areNow tell me, HOW in the world can I be feeling down when I read such encouraging words from y'all. All day I have been fighting my "down" feeling. I have been giving my worries to the Lord (hourly), I have been pray

In what areas of your life is your faith weak and your heart weary? How does this scripture apply to those areas and how can you put this promise into action in your life?"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest"-Matthew 11:28I feel silly even admitting this but I have been an emotional basketcase these last few days. I am learning how much of a pessimist I can be. This is something I am not liking either. I have been working like crazy to get ready for this week ahead of me. Hubby is having surgery today for his finger. It is an out-patient surgery but they are knocking him out. And then I am preparing for my surgery on Thursday.Hubby and I celebrated our 13th anniversay this weekend. Monday is really our anniversary, but I was emotional with all the "what if's".... What if something goes wrong with one of us, what if this is the last time we slow dance. What if .... I even sat and watched my husband throwing the football with my kids this evening

"...For I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances."Philippians 4:11My everyday thing I am thankful for is the time I spend with my kids. Here we were making cookies (want some they are really good). Some of the boys help out...and then some know just the right minute to arrive to lick the beaters. But I was told by my son who was making the cookies, "Mom quit taking picutres, I make my cookies in private!" I laughed and said, "Ok I will tell everyone that!"Why don't you head on over to Jules over at Everyday Mommy . She has a post so people can list things they appreciate. 100 Things About Me
1970-01-01 00:59:59
To keep up with tradition, and this being my 100th post!!! Here are a 100 things you may or may not want to know about me. I was born in Arizona I am the oldest of 3. I have one sister and one brother I married in my senior year in college. Had my first child when I graduated college. My favorite color is purple. Also sage green. I love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches mixed together. I use to play volleyball in high school. I work with the middle school group at church. I listen mostly to Christian music, but love country. I became a Christian in 3rd grade by a teacher named Mrs. Heart. I love to read all kinds of books, except the really hot steamy kind. I love to shop. I love going to coffee shops and talking with a girlfriend. Bookstores are my weakness. I love playing on the computer. My favorite place to eat is The Melting Pot. But Hubby won't take me there, not his kind of place. I have green eyes. I love that I have no "butt". I like wine and margarita

Everyday Things...
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I am so thankful that I have Christian friends (here and in blogland) who I can bounce ideas off. Sometimes agree to disagree, but yet always have the foundation of Christ remain the same. I am thankful we can have discussions, and debates to sharpen our knowledge in Christ, so that we may both grow in wisdom and knowledge. Why don't you head on over to Jules over at Everyday Mommy . She has a post so people can list things they appreciate. Things we at times can take for granted. Also, while you are there leave your link for your Everyday Things, and put on your blog what you are thankful for.HAVE A GREAT FRIDAY!!

"...For I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances." Philippians 4:11 Everyday Mommy asks what our favorite everyday thing is.One of my favorite Everyday things, is the fact everytime I speak to my husband on the phone he tells me he loves me. I never want to take that for granted and there is not a day that goes by that he does not tell me that. I know at times I rush and say "Love you too" or "bye". But it is an everyday thing I cherish.

This is my entry for Everyday Mommy 's "Writing from the Heart" contest. This is something I wrote last year for my sister's babyshower.Top Ten things God has taught me through Mothering:10. Beans/beads and anything similar in size DO fit up the nasal passageways.9. While potty training, always stay in the room, because if you don't there may be a chance they want to play with what they just accomplished.8. Maxi pads can be turned into body amour, if stuck all over your chests and arms.7. Socks are not just for wearing on your feet, but for sucking on too.6. If the child is anywhere near (or in the same building) as a microphone, children say the darnest things. Like screaming "Don't touch that" while saying a Christmas prayer.5. After a long day, when you think you are at your wits and you just want to say prayers and put your child to bed, you can hear things like "thank you Jesus for my family, and thank you Jesus for my farts'.4. Never ever, ever go to a Mom's group

Happy Big 30 Brother.
1970-01-01 00:59:59
This photo is copywrited by Erin McFarland Photography.HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY BROTHER. I guess you are not a baby anymore. The big 30, do you know how old you make me feel. I can not look at the picture above without tears coming to my eyes because of how proud I am to be your sister.I was your older, protective, bossy sister who loves you very much. I think you were my real life "doll" to play with, maybe that is why I did not care for the pretend dolls. I would talk for you, act for you, get the toys for you, you were born being waited on hand and foot (sorry sister in law). I know I was away at college during most of your high school years, I do feel like I missed a lot. But what I did see, I was proud. I saw you grow in your love for Christ, I saw your desire to go and preach His word, I know being a missionary will always be in the back of your mind. And I love to pick your brain in what you learned in seminary.I saw you walk down the isle with the most beautiful, awesome w

Psalms Sunday
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Psalms 3In my bible it says "David is encouraged by God's protection." I too value God's protection and rely on it daily. This is something our family prays for all the time, "please keep us safe". I rely on God for my physical protection and my spiritual protection.Sometimes I find myself driving back home from some event and it is dark. I do not like driving in the dark. So I pray my self home; praying for God's physical protection. Or if my kids are gone I pray for their physical protection and safe return. I rely on God for that. I live in Florida, those hurricanes can result in many prayers of physical protection.I also pray for protection of my marriage. I believe Christian marriages is the one institute Satan likes to mess with. I find when I am doing some sort of ministry, or making head way for God it is my marriage where Satan likes to attack. Both manly man and I know that and make a conscious effort to pray for the protection of our marriage.I also pray for m

Laurel Wreath
1970-01-01 00:59:59
The laurel crown is perishable, but the true believers shall recieve the crown of glory which will never fade away1 Peter 5:4 "...you will receive the unfading crown of glory. "I hang on to these words for several reasons:1. I am a mother to three boys (near the teen years), I have to know even on the bad days my crown is not going to be tossed aside.2. This is where my names sake comes from, so I believe it is a reminder to me from the Lord.

My Role Model
1970-01-01 00:59:59
A role model is defined as someone whose character, life, behavior, etc is taken as a good example to follow. I have been blessed by having several role models in my life time. My grandmother, my mother, and many of my aunts were wonderful role models of mine. But Gladys came into my life when I was young with brand new babies. The church we attended at the time had a ministry where women delivered a small bible to families who had a new baby. I was a mother who was missing my own family terribly and I had recently given birth to my second child in 18 months. My first reaction was embarrassment because my house was a mess. She sat and prayed with me and for me and when she left I felt like a new person. From that moment on, she would always give me a hug when she saw me, always said wonderful things about me, and always told me how much she loved my husband. These were things I did not believe myself. She always told me, "Laurel God has great things for you". She alwa

My green giant.
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I have a green giant that lives inside of me. Bet you did not know that, huh? I try to keep the green giant in check, because when he comes out it is not a good thing. When this green giant appears I lose sight of my blessings and everything the Lord has given me.When the green giant comes out he asks questions like:"Why do some people have it so easy in life, and anything good that comes to you, you have to work your tail off for?""Why do some people always have good things happen to them?""Doesn't this really hurt that they are getting things they have not really worked for?"I tell my green giant, over and over that I am thankful for what I have and to please leave. I would not trade places with many of the people the green giant speaks of. But some days the green giant gets the best of me and I break down and cry (like while making dinner last night). He would not leave me alone. Some of the people the green giant speaks of are people I love very much, people I want no

Our church had the wonderful opportunity to have Dr. Alvin Reid come and be a guest speaker. But he was not just the guest speaker; he went with the youth (high school and middle school) all weekend for Discipleship Now. My son was one of the youth that went. After hearing Dr. Reid preach Sunday morning I was jealous my son got to spend all weekend with him. I got this quote from his sermon. His sermon stayed with me all day and gave me a lot to "chew" on."You act more like a Christian by your influence on the lost, then the saved people you impress." - Dr. Alvin Reid If I were to ask the waiters at the restaurants you visit the most often, or the grocery store people you see almost daily, or the other stores you like to frequent, what could they tell me about you? If you are served a meal that is not exactly as you ordered it, what is your reaction? If they know you are a Christian, how do you tip? What impression do you leave on them? If there is a long line at the

Happy Birthday Sister
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I know you think wasn't it just her brother's birthday? My Mom had Irish twins, my brother and sister are 4 days less than a year apart.Let me introduce to you my beautiful sister. My whole life she has been beautiful on the outside, heads turn when she walks by. In the last few years, God broke her and rebuilt her into the most beautiful woman INSIDE also. I am proud to call her my Godly prayer warrior.Sis, these last few years (even more than that) have been a wild ride. The exciting part is the wild ride is just beginning. I know some days you don't know how you are going to be the mother you want to be. When these wonderful blessings that God gave you arrived, life came at you fast. I am here to say you are a great Mother. Your blessing from Russia was born just for you, God had you in mind before she was even conceived. Your blessing from home was born just for you. God knew ONLY YOU could be Mommy to these two beautiful girls. And I sure love being Auntie to them. Can I just s

So when we drove by again, I said to manly man "lets just stop and walk around the property, no one lives there". Well guess what....... Someone lives there.Ok in all honesty we did ring the door bell and knock on the door before we started to peer into the windows. And I don't mean I peered in just one window, oh no, I tried every door I looked into

So many times without realizing it, you think you can do it all on your own. I have worked hard with my youngest son with his reading, I have done all that I can do with getting teachers involved, they are doing their best. But there is still a struggle. Reading is so important, I don't want him feeling like he is always "behind". So Grandma and Grandpa gave us a gift certificate to a popular learning center to have the additional help he needs. Somewhere deep inside me, I feel like a failure, that I did not do enough when I should have. I guess I could be totally honest and say I don't think I read to him as much as I did my two older sons. Somethings you beat yourself up for afterwards.Anyways, I JUST got off the phone. Made the apt for his skill assessment test, and I open up my email and see this: Elisa said:Laurel, you truly are a Godly Gal and I have to thank you officially by giving you an internet bouquet of a Godly Gal Stamp. Can I tell you how much YOU GUYS bless me.
