I Should Be A Shut In... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 You all knew I would be back today with stories of misadventure…. Didn't you????Because…she's leaving the house… this is going to be good!!!HahaYa. You were right.Malachi, Josiah & now Elijah are ALL coughing… coughing… coughing… all the time no breaks… I think I'm goingggggg crazzzyyyyyyyy. Just ONE MINUTE with no cough….That's all I ask. I'm easy to please like that.In all seriousness - It makes me crazy because I can't fix it. And especially watching Elijah cough like that, and then cry in pain… it kills me.We did make it to the grocery store where Isaiah was singing and ringing the Salvation Army Bell. But not without much crying and throwing ourselves about in acts of emotional desperation… and that was just me.Here he is:And here is some of his class:While there Elijah had an explosive diaper… so I loaded everyone back up in the van - and cleared the back seat to change him. While back there changing and feeding him I found out that THE
Thankful for Christian Schooling..... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 "You are to be commended for your decision to choose Christian
schooling. You are investing in an education that will pay dividends for a lifetime." UPDATE: I sent a note to Isaiah's teacher about the "bad joke". Isaiah brought this note home: From Isaiah's Teacher: Thank you for informing me of this language. We talked about it. I wrote notes to the other families of the students involved, since I am sure their parents would want to know. We talked about forgiveness & our sinfulness. We also talked about God's gift of language and our responsibility to use this gift to his glory. Please let me know if there is ever a situation like this again. When I got to school this afternoon to drop off Malachi - I noticed Isaiah wasn't on the playground with the rest of his class. He was in the classroom with his teacher and the students who told the joke - praying. Seeing that made sending him to Christian School worth every penny!! I also ran into one of Read more:Thankful

WANTED: Self Cleaning, Self Disinfecting House... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I am covered in my children's snot and newborns spit up… I am not wearing real clothes and my hair has not seen a brush. In one arm is a sad congested baby… the other a can of Lysol. I'm on a quest to disinfect this house…top to bottom. That's just where I am right now. In case you were wondering. *Insert picture of crazed, disheveled looking lady here.* I had a doctor's appt. yesterday (no I'm not pregnant.) Anyway… My doctor and our pediatrician are in the same area. Our pediatrician heard Elijah & Josiah coughing and asked to take a closer look. He was worried about pneumonia. Now I am worried about pneumonia. I am supposed to bring Elijah back in tomorrow if there is no improvement… so far no improvement. ps. i am supposed to host josiah & my nephews birthday party here on saturday. And last night… between comforting my baby and taking care of all the coughing I was getting phone calls. From mothers. Mothers of Read more:Cleaning

Lysol, Febreze & Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Tim is at church with Isaiah & Malachi. I'm home. With the coughing. Today is the Christmas program. Isaiah & Malachi are in it… and Tim is playing trumpet. I'm really sad that I couldn't be there. As I mentioned briefly on Friday… Elijah has RSV - and the RSV caused pneumonia. The doctor called me himself to tell me. We talked about having Elijah admitted into the hospital for oxygen treatments. However, I felt like he was breathing ok… and that I had what I needed here to take care of him. (we have the nebulizer already because of Malachi's asthma) The doctor gave me the information I needed to be immediately admitted into the hospital if Elijah needed oxygen… and he even gave me his cell phone number so I could reach him anytime. Thankfully I haven't had to take him up on going to the hospital or calling him. Elijah is still wheezing and coughing… but nowhere near as bad - he is definitely improving. My Christmas Tour 1970-01-01 00:59:59 A friend of mine was saying on her blog how she had got dressed… put on make up… and no one had seen her efforts. I feel like that A LOT!! I have been feeling that about my house too. I got out all our decorations… made a few more… You know… Just put a lot of effort into it. And no one has seen it besides my husband and kids. I keep thinking how great it would be to have a friend over for lunch or something… and then something comes up, or the kids get sick… birthday parties get canceled…it just hasn't happened. So… the kids and I went around and took pictures of our favorite decorations or Christmas
books… to share with YOU!! This is a great idea too because all my family lives 1500 miles away - and hasn't seen my house decorated for Christmas for 4 years. We LOVE Christmas and decorating!! I also LOVE Instrumental Christmas music. It plays 24/7 in my house from Dec 1st (the day we put up the tree) - Dec 2

Nine Years 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Nine years ago today I married my best friend. We knew very little about the ups & downs a marriage can bring… in our young (I was 19 & Tim was 20) and in love state we thought it would be "all up from here" It hasn't been all "up" … but… it's in the "down" that has brought us to the closeness we share today. The biggest thing we have learned from our nine years is the importance of prioritizing. One thing the world will not do is to give your marriage a priority position in life. If your marriage is esteemed, it is because you made it so. If it is prized, it is because you prize it. If you and your spouse have had the desperately needed time to interact with each other in a meaningful manner, it is not because our culture decided to give it to you. It is because you took it! Prioritizing is a way of life…. If not, then we are constantly at work determining what is important to us and what is not. The product of our decision making is evidenced by Read more:Years
C D B! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I M N D L-F-8-R (I am in the elevator) Last night it was Josiah's turn to pick the bed time story… he ran to the bookshelf and came back with the original version of this book: No one knows where this book came from and how it ended up on our bookshelf… (possibly from the faze the boys went through where they were obsessed with yard sales…and would come home with all sorts of loot that I had no idea how they got with their 25 cents….but that's a different story) Anyway. The entire book is written this way. I M A U-M B-N. U R N N-M-L. Can you figure it out? C U N 10-N-C!!http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h305/tmndsrhjhn_photos/6.jpg
"No. Not Free." 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Getting ready for the BIG Dance Party here!! Although… Josiah is in denial about turning three. Me: Hi Birthday Boy!! You're three!! (Technically… tomorrow - but today is the party) Josiah: No… Not Free. Not Birthday Boy…Josiah!!! Mkay. I decided to try making the pumpkin cheese cake pie again… you know… for the party. Not that I'm trying to prove I can bake or anything. Ha ha. So… my sister, Laura, sent me a "better" (translation for better: "harder" )recipe. Our conversation went something like this: Laura: your drying out the pumpkin right? You remembered to dry out the pumpkin?? Me: ya ya ya. Laura: Baking is like SCIENCE Sarah… be serious and do it right!! Me: *Licking spoon* you know I failed science right? I am happy to announce it did turn out this time!! In other news… Tim was asked to do a song on Sunday… so he was stressing out about WHAT to sing… nothing really seemed ri
He's Three.... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 My baby is officially three. It really doesn't seem possible. He should be turning two. Not three. Crazy. He had a blast at his birthday party as you can see by the photo's. And then he got to go out for the traditional birthday breakfast with dad… he went up to each brother and said "bye…I'm going to go get pancakes" Ya. traditions are a good thing. Another fun fact from December 23, 2003 - not only is that the day Josiah Mark joined our family…. It is also the day we bought our first house. Yup. I was in labor while signing all the papers. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.. .and this girl really needed a house to bring her baby home to. So… Josiah Mark… the once meek and mild baby…. Now a wild little tornado with opinions. We love you so much… you bring something to this family that no one else could. I love watching you attempt anything and everything your brothers do. And I am always amazed how your brothers Read more:Three
Warning: Long Post Ahead... So Bring Rations And Pace Yourself. 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Merry Christmas!!! Birthday Cake for JesusWe had a wonderful time hanging out in our pj's all day!! We started out the morning at about 6:00 am. The boys had some donuts and hot chocolate while I nursed Elijah. Then we moved down to the Christmas room where Isaiah read us the Christmas story in his own words…. And I have to say... this is my favorite translation of the Christmas Story to date. After he read the Christmas story they opened presents…. The last present being the great big huge one they have been wondering about for a month now….. Tim and I had about 50 things that had to be assembled… so… we assembled toys all day. Of course… some of the assembling included this lego race car set Isaiah got from his grandparents - It looked like daddy was enjoying building it more than Isaiah. I'm still trying to figure out why the big truck Malachi got was screwed (with about 30 screws) to the box it came in….. IF you Read more:Yourself

Sick. Ick. 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Please help me…. I'm drowning in vomit. Everyone but Tim & Elijah have the flu. Why can't the kids aim for the bowl… or the towel…. Or honestly Anything BUT the carpet. I can't get the smell out of my carpet and it's making me nauseous. What do you use to get BAD smells out of your carpet???? (I tried my classic febreze & Lysol) Heeeellllpppppp.http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h305/tmndsrhjhn_photos/6.jpg
It's Snowing!! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Well…. I was able to come out from under the vomit. I have a bazillion loads of laundry to fold since every sheet, blanket and towel in this house was used during the last few days. But… that's ok… Because My carpets don't stink… therefore I can breathe deeply again. (thanks Janet!!) The boys all seem fine today…they bounce back quickly like that. So moving on past the vomit… It's snowing. It's FINALLY snowing!! And it isn't supposed to stop snowing until Sunday!! Hooray!! The boys can now go out to the sledding hill… they were out sledding by 9 am this morning. And Daddy has promised to pile up loads of snow this winter with the bobcat so they can make a snow fort in it. Lucky boys!! This is a picture of the boys outside looking for snow a few days ago…. This is our neighbor…. Um…. Preparing for the snow?...... And this is from this morning….. Walking in my entry way after the kids Read more:Snowing
I'm sore. I'm bruised. I feel OH, SO OLD!!!! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 How are you spending your New Years Eve?? Big plans?? Tim and I are obviously getting old…that or it's just the number of children we have… either way - it's 5:30pm here Tim is snoozing on the sofa with Elijah and the other three boys are playing peacefully with the train table… and that's the extent of our New Years Eve plans. We are so wild and crazy… I know.We had buckets of freezing rain last night… so our sledding hill (that Tim went out and "groomed" in the rain) is now VERY icy. The kids love itAll of themEven the "big" kidakaTim.Isaiah tried giving me a couple rides - to which we had some major crashes.Malachi responded by saying "here mom… I'll give you a ride… just let me steer" Still crashed.I'm sore. I'm bruised. I feel OH, SO OLD!!!! Here is a little picture video I put together of the "good old fashioned fun" from this afternoon…..http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h305/tmndsrhjhn_photos/6.jpg
New Year, New...... Nothing 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Ah, the first of the year. Time to reminisce about the last twelve months and resolve for the next. Except… I got nothing. 2006? It was fine. It was tiring. There wasn't enough sleep. You know why? Because I was pregnant with three kids… Because we had to do some remodeling… Because we had a baby. They're a lot of work, those babies.2007? Um, no plans. This week will look a lot like last week, which looked fairly akin to the week before that. There will be snacks and learning activities and trips to the park. There will be Quiet Time in the new year. (Dear God, please let there be Quiet Time in the new year. Amen.) There will be diaper changes & potty training. There will be reading and writing and listening, oh my. But new, for the new year? No idea. I hope and pray for flooring in the rec room other than that…No new ventures to plan, no new philosophies to espouse, no news to announce. Just plain old life, continued. And that's enough. A Book Review... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I just finished reading the book:OFF - ROAD DISCIPLINES: Spiritual Adventures of Missional Leaders. by Earl CrepsI was given the book for free if I agreed to do a book review on my blog and on Amazon. To be honest I'm a little nervous about doing this. I feel like I'm in college again - I had to do SO many book reports!!!Anyway.Tim & I both read it… and both really took a lot from it.I had it in my head, before I even got the book, that it was going to be written towards a "young" adult crowd, since the author was asking "bloggers" (who tend to be on the "younger side") to review the book. However, I think it is more written to the "baby boomers". There is PLENTY of vital information for a twenty-something year old though….Did you really think I would just stop there… ha ha ha.I want to pull out some of the things Earl Creps said that really made me stop and think… So, while the thoughts are my own - the quotes are from the book….There is

Freaking OUT... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I am freaking out just a little. Why?Oh… I'll tell you why.Tonight our PASTOR & his WIFE are coming over to baby sit the boys. This is the first pastor* that has EVER asked to watch our kids. I am hugely impressed and incredibly nervous. Because the boys are… um… wild. (dear Lord, please make them perfect little angels while the pastor is here. Amen.) (PS. I know kids are kids... and boys will be boys. I admit I have issues with wanting my kids to be perfect.)Just out of curiosity… how many of you have pastors that would actually baby sit your kids? I think we have had only one other pastor before this that I could picture asking to watch our children (he didn't) - and that was because Tim was the youth pastor of that church, so we were friends with the pastor. We have only been going to this church 9 - 10 months… The pastor's son is our age, you know… so it's been awhile.I could sit here and write about this all day becauseSeriouslyFREAKING OUTI think I will Read more:Freaking
The house is still standing... That's a good sign... Right?? 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I promised to let you all know how last night went… but…I got nothin'. (It's Saturday. My brain doesn't work on Saturday's) So I'll let the children speak… I asked Isaiah to give me one sentence about Pastor being here last night. He said: "We had a lot of fun!" Malachi said: "We wrestled!" Josiah has been talking about how he and Pastor both have a red motorcycle. Josiah's Motorcycle on the left. Pastor's Motorcycle on the right. Thanks boys!! Sounds like things went well. We'll find out Sunday if our kids are subject to any sermon illustrations. So… where did Tim & I go? We did a progressive dinner with about 12 other couples. It was so much fun. We started at the first house with yummy appetizers and then went on to the second house for salad the third had the main dish and then ended at house 4 with dessert. HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY TIM. 1970-01-01 00:59:59 WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h305/tmndsrhjhn_photos/6.jpg
BLEH 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Just Bleh. That's how I feel today. I guess there's a couple reasons for that. 1. I did very little housework over the weekend. And it shows. Amazing how a house can go from spotless on Friday to disastrous on Monday. I'm trying to muster up some energy to start the laundry - looks like I haven't done it in weeks. (it's only been 2 days) There is jelly smeared all over the counters, cheerios on the floor and Christmas decorations half taken down. Which brings me to 2. I started putting away Christmas stuff on Saturday. That's always a bummer for me. It's admitting, that yes, Christmas is over. (the remains of the tree) And 3. Tim's birthday was a bust. I really did want it to be special since it's a "milestone" birthday. It started out well… the church sang happy birthday to him and we went out to lunch with friends. But it kinda went downhill from there. For one HIS parents… brother and sister didn't REMEMBER. I gues
From my Devotional... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Too Many Children? When I learned that my daughter Valerie was expecting number five, my insides tied themselves in knots. Val and Walt were both very peaceful about it, willing to receive this child as they had received the others--as a gift from the Lord, remembering His words, "Whoever welcomes this child in my name welcomes me" (Luke 9:48, NIV). But my imagination ran to the future and its seeming impossibilities--"Poor dear Val. She has her hands more than full. What will she do with five?" Before she was married Valerie had told me that she hoped the Lord would give her six. I had smiled to myself, thinking she would probably revise that number after the first three or four. Practical considerations rose like thunderclouds in my mind. Money. Another room to be built onto the house. Homeschooling (Valerie was teaching two already!) How would the new child receive the attention he needed? Etc., etc. Then I began to look at the advantages. I was one of six children myself, a
AND TODAY I TURN 29. 1970-01-01 00:59:59 It's actually good for me to start the year this way. It's like God saying to me, "Let's just put away any newly formed ideas about that whole Super mom thing to rest right away, shall we? Now that we have that out of the way, what do you want to do this year? I have some ideas" I'm excited, when I stop standing over my own shoulder with a whip, to think of God's ideas for me this year. I think I'm starting to see that this year is not going to be the year that I become an exceptionally sculpted and disciplined housewife. More like the year that I learn a little more about how to listen. I am slowly learning to understand that God's plan is manifesting and unfolding all around me. My daily challenge is just allowing myself to go along with it, and listening for deeper understanding… And that is what I want this year, anyway.http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h305/tmndsrhjhn_photos/6.jpg
Hands Off Girls.... He's 4 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Yesterday I spent the morning over at a friends house… she even fed me cheesecake!! Yum. During the day this friend of mine has just her 5 yr old daughter at home (her other children are all in school) So… it was my three youngest boys and her daughter. You need to know this because at one point during our visit her daughter had slipped off to her room and closed the door. Malachi started telling me he was bored….. so I said "oh… where did Grace run off to?" To which Malachi replied… "She needed some quite time" When I suggested he go knock nicely on her door and ask her if she would like to play he said… "NO! She really NEEDS her quite time" Oh Malachi!! You are going to make a GREAT husband one day!! They also sent us home with a big Duplo fire truck full of the duplo legos that her boys have outgrown. Josiah spent the rest of the day pushing the big fire truck around the house until he finally fell asleep on it. The pho Read more:Hands
