Lately breeding of exotic animals has become popular here in Latvia. I have already posted picture from an ostrich farm, now this is from place named Rakši where you can relax, do some activities like paintball or just have a walking tour with these animals. They will bring your picnic bags and you will have a possibility to relax and feel like in Peru. Almost. I mean landscape is not the same. ;)

Magnolia 2008-05-05 14:51:30 Magnolia isn't the Latvian native tree but I still don't understand why don't we have it in public gardens a lot. I mean - it looks just great and is doing very well outdoors in National Botanic Garden. So where is the difference between this and other gardens?

Swan Family 2008-05-04 01:58:29 Unfortunately this nice composition was combined with shaking of my hands, so I needed to do some additional work for this photo to look acceptable. Its quality is far from ideal, but still wanted to post it.They say that swans are really attached to one another for the whole life. And if one of them dies, soon after dies the other. I don't know if it is a myth, but it makes swan family as a romantic symbol.

Today the sea was still and clear as a mirror.
Since the swans which live in the sea aren't used to the presence of people, it is not easy to take the close-up photos of them, unlike the birds living in big city. Today I was lucky, they didn't go away from me and allowed to take some pictures with my 300mm lens.

Rožmalas 2008-04-22 09:39:10 [Picture Location]Today we went some 80 kilometers just to have a dinner. Sounds crazy, but turned out really great!Some 10 kilometers from Bauska there is a renovated Ribbes windmill and around it there is built a receation place named Rožmalas. It has a great restaurant where we had our dinner. Also we looked inside the windmill which is now a museum. Too bad we didn't call earlier to arrange a pretzel battering, our daughter surely would have loved it!
Springtime II 2008-04-20 13:34:46 We don't have full-size leaves on the trees yet, but some flowers are there already. Next week I am on vacation from my everyday work, and I am not going anywhere abroad. That means - if I will have a good cooperation with the weather guy, I will make a bunch of interesting springtime photos. Straupe Castle II 2008-04-03 13:49:32 This place is like folklore. They say - if you drink too much, you will end up in Straupe. Seems like a nice place, but in this building there is a nacological hospital.In my opinion, it is not the best place for a hospital. It is not built for that purpose and there could be more useful ways to use this medieval castle. But we have a tradition of bad our heritage managing. We burned down one of our most beautiful castles in Cesvaine some years ago and we have more similar cases like that. At least we don't use churches as warehouses anymore, like it was in Soviet time... Read more:Castle

Sigulda Air Tram 2008-05-20 12:16:51 The air tram in Sigulda takes you across the Gauja river to Turaida where stands the magnificant medieval castle I was posting about some time ago. This is a view from Krimulda palace. Sigulda and its surrounding is one of the most visited places in Latvia.
