Bridge Over Gauja River 2007-10-14 17:00:00 The road which leads from Ādaži town to Latvian army base has one landmark which shows that nothing is more eternal than a temporary solution. They built this bridge after the WWII as the temporary solution but it is still there today. But now it is over, there is a new bridge almost finished near this one. So, this is something like an early in memoriam for the bridge. Read more:River

Photo Factory 2007-10-12 14:44:00 The weather is just unimaginable! Now we have something like a storm outside! I think there will be no golden autumn, the wind will blow all leaves while they are still green. In such weather no pictures are made, the only thing you want to do is to sit near a fireplace.I went to photo classes to learn how to shoot in studio. The difference between then and now is that now if they give me an equipment and a studio, I can make something quite nice looking.Yesterday we with other classmates made something like an afterparty in some abandoned factory. We took lights, we had models, and we had a lots of fun! If you come back later, I will show you some of the photos from this location with the models. For today just the location. Read more:Photo

Golden Riga 2007-10-08 02:06:00 The weather is not well, so I don't know if I will get nice autumn pictures this year. They say that there is a possibility that we will see a snow this week. Not the best news...Meanwhile one golden autumn photo from my archive. Enjoy! Read more:Golden
Chesnuts 2007-10-07 14:08:00 Continuing with autumn pictures here is one of this year's chesnuts. Nice thing for children to play. These are not used as a food, unlike those growing in other parts of Europe and selling high on the streets of Vienna etc.And I would like to congratulate our national women basketball team which ended 4th in European Championships tonight. Great reasult, the greatest in the period of our second independence!
Riga Cityscape 2007-10-20 10:32:00 Riga's old city viewed from the island where the building of Latvian national TV is situated. On the right is St.Peter's Cathedral, in the middle with a green tower is St.Jacob's Cathedral, on the left is The Dome Cathedral. Read more:Cityscape
Bridges: Old And New 2007-10-18 16:17:00 I was abroad in Germany for a while, that explains the silence for a few days.
Continuing where I left, I am posting the new bridge in Ādaži near the old one mentioned in previous post. Looks nicer, doesn't it? Read more:Bridges
Walk In The Park 2007-10-24 13:17:00 Two girls walking in the park of Bastion Hill. Bastion Hill (Bastejkalns in Latvian) is artificial hill which is part of what was left after they destroyed the bastions around Riga in the end of 19th century, which marked the start of Riga being modern western city of Russian Empire then.
Fountain In The Park 2007-10-23 11:33:00 Remember this fountain from one of my previous posts? This is the some fountain some two years later. Haven't changed much, have it?In the next few days you will see some more pictures of Riga's parks, since yesterday was great sunny day and did some walking with my camera. Read more:Fountain

Snow On The Tracks 2007-11-04 10:23:00 So, this is the first snow. It started to snow yesterday, but I was too lazy to go out. And the weather itself was terrible, not much fun of that snow...Temperature dropped around zero degrees Celsius, so in some places snow was available still today. One of them was Garkalne. I took a few photos near the railway station. Other pictures will be available in the next days.Winter is coming!
Candles For The Souls 2007-11-11 13:45:00
11th of November 1919 is the most heroic moment in Latvian history. We declared independence in 1918 but there was still a long way to go. And on 11th of November in 1919 we did it, we showed the world that young hearts must run free! We kicked an ass of each and every Russian and German who wanted to have control of our land!Today we put candlelights near the Presidental palace in Riga for the memory of those who died fighting for the freedom of Latvian nation! Wet 2007-11-11 05:05:00 Today more pictures from one day and one theme. It was snowing, then the snow melted away and left many beautiful drops of water.
I hope today will be some more pictures. This evening I am going to Riga where celebration of Lāčplēsis Day is taking place. This day in 1919 Latvians won their first independence kicking away the mighty army of Bermont-Avalov from the Daugava shores in Riga!
Trains 2007-11-08 14:34:00 I took this picture in Garkalne near the Ropaži railway station. Sometimes it is very mixed up here in Latvia. You see, Ropaži is a real town in Latvia and it is something like 20 or more kilometers away from this place. And the station is right in the center of other town named Garkalne. Doesn't make sense... Read more:Trains

Late Harvest? 2007-11-24 07:10:00 Guess what! We grow grapes here in Latvia. Of course, most of them are not suitable for making an excellent wine, but some manages to do even that!By the way, Wine Hill in Sabile is the most northern open-air wineyard and it is registered in the Guinness Book of Records. Wet, Wet, Wet... 2007-12-03 14:53:00 It is December, it is Advent time, there is not much left before Christmas, but we haven't seen a real snow this year. It is raining almost every day and everything is wet.
Autumn Leftovers 2007-12-02 04:50:00 This apple somehow managed to stay on the tree, while others have fallen down. While winter haven't started with snowing and things like that, the dominant color now is gray. Read more:Autumn
Winter Sea 2007-12-01 09:40:00 The colors of the Baltic Sea are nice also in the winter time. Too bad that it is not that much pleasure to capture them because the fingers are freezing. Today was the first day this winter when temperature was below zero Celsius also in the daytime...
Waiting For A Good Weather 2007-12-16 11:41:00 They say that next week will be warmer - about 5 degrees Celsius. That means no white Christmas, I guess. But the good news are that it won't be raining next week. So, may be next week will be the one I will be able to get out and make some quality pictures without any water on my camera? But for now - the only place I feel comfortable is near the fireplace. About four months to go, and we will have a springtime here. Can't wait, cant't wait!... Read more:Waiting
