Warriors: Let Don Nelson Retire.
2007-08-28 10:24:53
The more rumors I read about the Don Nelson situation, the more certain I am the Warriors should let him go. The basic conflict goes like this: Don Nelson wants a guaranteed contract for three more years at $5 million per year (depending on what rumors you choose to believe). The Warriors, led by GM Chris Mullin, want to pay Nellie $5.1 next year with a team option for the second year. Nellie has threatened to retire if he doesn’t get the deal he wants. Thus, the standstill. Nelson shouldn’t be brought back. Here’s why: (more…)

Celtics Can’t Win A Championship With Rivers Coaching
2007-08-28 08:18:21
To be clear, like every other sane Boston fan I believe Doc Rivers is a horrible head coach. Doc knows jack about defense. During last year’s season, the Celtics often looked like a high school team. They couldn’t stop anybody. Nevertheless, my most intense criticism of Doc centers around his development of young players and his managing of late-game situations. We all knew when Doc was hired that he wasn’t a defensive-minded coach. When his team fails to play any defense, we can’t be shocked. So we begin with late-game situations. Before Pierce went down last year the Celtics weren’t that bad. They just lost every close game they played in. You may laugh, (more…)

“Feed Latrell’s Family” Food Drive
2007-08-23 00:50:51
In what has to be one of the funnier headlines I’ve seen in a while, Latrell Sprewell defaulted on the mortgage of his 70 foot yacht “Milwaukee’s Best”. While Sprewell couldn’t be reached for comment, I’m going to assume he decided to sacrifice his boat in order to “feed his family.” Evidently, the payments were $10,322 a month. By my calculation, Latrell can now afford to buy 10 “Connoisseur Collection” Trump steak packages with enough money left over for some charcoal briquet’s and starter fluid. Here’s a picture of the yacht: Good for Latrell — maybe now all those people who criticized him for turning down a $21 million dollar contract offer in 2004 will apologize. In fact, I’m going to start a “Feed Latrell’s Family ” food drive. Send any non-perishable food items to: Latrell Sprewell c/o “My Family is F^%@in Starvin’ M$%#@rf^%@er!!” Minnesota Timberwolves 600 Fir

7 Reasons Kobe is Better Than Lebron
2007-08-21 20:11:11
VS. I’m tired of hearing about Lebron . From his recent trip to Hollywood to his new talent management agency, people just can’t stop talking about this guy. Don’t get me wrong — Lebron is an excellent player and a supreme talent, easily one of the top five players in the league. It’s just that Lebron really hasn’t achieved enough to deserve all the hype. In fact, I’d argue Kobe deserves twice the attention that Lebron gets. Here’s why: (more…)

Celtics Can’t Win A Championship With Rondo
2007-08-20 18:11:31
Before Danny Ainge orders the 17th championship banner to lift to the Garden rafters, he might want to address the point guard position. Currently, the Celtics plan on entering the season with Rajon Rondo at the point with Eddie House and second rounder Gabe Pruitt as backups. I like Rondo, but he isn’t ready to lead a veteran-laden team to the second round of the playoffs, let alone an Eastern Conference Championship. Rondo is a great dribbler, a good passer and a good defender. The problem is (more…)

Cancer Survivor Writes Basketball Self-Help Book
2007-08-19 21:06:54
I stumbled across a book today that struck me as odd — it’s called “Open Your Heart With Basketball “, and I must say my initial reaction was skeptical. Who writes self-help books emphasizing better living through basketball? Turns out the author, Chris Bibey, is a young basketball playing cancer survivor turned author. Bibey played forward at La Roche College, a D III school in western PA. While undergoing thyroid cancer treatment, Bibey helped his team compete in the conference finals. I won’t repeat all of the details here, but suffice to say it’s a great story about a kid going above and beyond in spite of what life threw at him. I’m not sure what the book is about - I’ve never read it - but you should check out Chris Bibey’s blog. He’s giving one of his books away.

Kobe Will Holdout Next February
2007-08-30 12:46:16
May 30th. June 17th. August 20th. Three different days, but the same message. “Trade me.” As if that weren’t enough to convince all the Laker faithful that the end of the Kobe Bryant era is near, let me explain what’s going to happen if the Lakers DON’T trade Kobe soon: Kobe will be sitting out the season by March 1, 2008. Here’s why: (more…)

ODENwokandi? OlowODEN? The Similarites Are Scary.
2007-09-13 00:09:48
Around NBA draft time, circa 1998, Michael Olowokandi “The Kandi Man” was often described as a “supremely gifted athlete in a 7 footer’s body”. Fast forward nearly 10 years to NBA draft time 2007, and you hear Steve Kerr describe Greg Oden as a “once-in-a-decade player.” Today, Greg Oden is scheduled to undergo exploratory surgery. While it’s anyone’s guess what the result will be, it’s easy for some to imagine Oden’s career tumbling into the same abyss that Olowokandi fell into. (more…)

Tony Allen Is Crucial To Celtics Championship Hopes
2007-09-10 09:59:50
This time last year I had very little hope for Tony Allen . Allen had showed very little in his first two seasons. Going into his third NBA season, I saw Allen as an athletic swing man who couldn’t shoot and made horrible decisions. Out of all the Celtics’ young players at the time, I put him above only Bassy Telfair in terms of potential. That isn’t much of a complement. If Brian Scalabrine was in his early twenties, I would have put him ahead of Telfair too. On top of his on court problems, Allen faced possible jail time for aggravated battery over an altercation in a Chicago nightclub. In short, I didn’t see much hope for Tony. The first month of last season was much of the same. Tony Allen looked completely lost. It was obvious that Doc and Danny believed in Allen and wanted him to be a key part of the rotation. Unfortunately, he just wasn’t helping the team. Coming off the bench, Allen averaged 4.4 points a game with 0.5 assists. Tony had a few good defensive games but o

Are The Denver Nuggets A Championship Team?
2007-09-10 09:56:55
In order to win a championship, an NBA team needs: 2 or more superstar caliber players A solid point guard A quality scoring big man Multiple reliable outside shooters A deep bench Great rebounding Great defense Great team chemistry Great coaching Here’s how the Nuggets score in each of these areas: (more…)

The Kings STOLE Kevin Martin
2007-09-04 12:29:48
Last week, Kevin Martin signed a five year contract with the Kings for a total of $55 million. While a lot of arm-chair GM’s have declared this contract to be too much, take a look at the facts: Kevin Martin was in the top 10 of NBA shooting guards in the following categories: Steals, free-throws attempted and free-throws made, and field goal percentage. He’s ranked 11th in points per game behind some of the best scorers in the league — Kobe, D-Wade, Michael Redd, A.I., Vinsanity, T-Mac, etc. Kevin Martin’s stats from last season and his size make him comparable to (more…)

Suns STILL Have No Help For Nash
2007-09-02 10:53:03
It seemed like every day the Phoenix Suns were popping up in the rumor mills. Shawn Marion’s name floated around most often even though Amare appeared to come the closest to actually being traded. In the end, the Suns managed to pick up Grant Hill and trade Kurt Thomas for a bag of balls. Steve Nash can’t be too happy. (more…)

Marbury Intern Sex Video
2007-09-27 00:49:47
That’s right! We’ve re-enacted Stephon Marbury and NY Knicks intern Kathleen Decker having sex in Steph’s truck outside a strip club. OK, OK, so their isn’t any skin. Sorry. We don’t have that kind of money. But we do have time to waste and a truck that we didn’t mind shaking like crazy. If you like the video, tell your friends. We’re trying to start something here… Shout out to Mark for help making this happen. P.S. Sorry about the bad “taking it to the hole joke.” We couldn’t resist.

NoBloodNoFoul Playoff Predictions - Western Conference
2007-10-11 19:04:39
OK - here’s where I put my money where my mouth is. My playoff predictions for the upcoming NBA season, in order of seed: 1) Phoenix Suns - With all the angst from last season, these guys have got a big chip on their shoulder that should translate to the best record in the league. (more…)

Detroit Trade Talk Sign That JR Smith Is Killing His Career
2007-10-20 16:40:55
If you’re an NBA player in a contract year, the last thing you want to be described as is a “malcontent.” Unfortunately for JR Smith , that’s exactly what’s happening. Smith’s current team, the Denver Nuggets, have begun to seek a trade to unload Smith, who was quoted earlier this week as saying that he’s “not trying to be a cancer.” It’s no secret that JR Smith and Nuggets coach George Karl don’t get along, and moving Smith is probably best for the team. Unfortunately, rumors of this trade only reinforce Smith’s image as an immature, foolish, and un-coachable young player — a malcontent. (more…)

NoBloodNoFoul Playoff Predictions - Eastern Conference
2007-10-17 17:01:36
I’m putting my basketball analysis cred on the line and boldly predicting how the eastern conference playoff picture will look in about 6 months. While I’m nearly 100% confident in my picks for the west, I’m not entirely sure about any of these teams. With the exception of Detroit and Chicago, every other team on this list could fall out of the big picture. The truth is that most teams in the East aren’t that good, and teams that aren’t that good tend to be inconsistent. Anyways… 1) Detroit Pistons - Expect Flip Saunders to improve Detroit’s offense, and look for their bench to rival many teams starting squads. (more…)

Nuggets Bucks Preseason Game Recap

Denver Should Trade Nene For Ron Artest
2007-11-08 23:07:42
With the Nuggets Nene out for at least the next 6 weeks, it might be time to consider making a trade. It’s no secret that Denver shopped Marcus Camby during the off-season, hoping to find a younger player that could replace Camby and also get Denver out of the luxury tax. Denver’s urge to avoid the luxury tax is so great that they traded Reggie Evans for the 76er’s Steven Hunter and a throw-in during the off-season - a lopsided trade in Philadelphia’s favor. Clearly, the Nuggets want to get out of luxury tax territory and they’re willing to trade a key big man to do it. So why not trade Nene for Ron Artest? (more…)

Enver Nuggets Need “D” - More Beatings To Come?
2007-11-08 13:13:06
Almost two months ago, I said that the Nuggets weren’t a championship squad. I said they’re biggest failings were terrible defense and a lack of three point shooting. Here we are five games into the season, and here’s what I can tell you about Denver: 1. This team needs a point guard. This isn’t really a defensive problem, but part of the reason the Nuggets got hammered in Boston last night was their lack of a point guard. AI is an excellent playmaker, but he should spend a lot of time working off the ball in order to spread the opposing team’s defense and bring some balance to the offense. Too often, AI’s ball pounding puts the rest of the Nuggets in the “stand and watch” mode, (more…)

The New Celtics: Who Are These Guys?
2007-11-08 11:51:30
It’s been weird watching the Celtics throughout the pre-season and the first couple games of the year. For those of us who have followed the Celtics the last few years, it almost doesn’t feel like we’re watching our own team. It is more than just the additions of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. The team has been remade from top to bottom into a legitimate force. When the second unit checks in, I am still expecting Ray Allen and Gerald Green to come in and toss up shot after shot while playing little to no defense. Instead, Eddie House has been coming in and tossing up shot after shot and playing little to no defense. (more…)

The Celtics Big Three On Track To Fail
2007-11-25 17:18:03
Friday, November 2nd. The Celtics destroyed the Wizards 103 - 83. The game was over by halftime. Wednesday, November 7th. The Celtics wrecked the Nuggets 119 - 93. Nuggets coach George Karl and superstar Allen Iverson both said it was one of the worst beatings they suffered in their careers. Friday, November 9th. The Celtics blasted the Hawks 106 - 83. They had a 14pt lead at halftime and never looked back. Tuesday, November 13th. The Celtics powered by the Pacers 101 - 86, proving they can win big on the road. Wednesday, November 14th. The Celtics embarrassed the Nets 91 - 69 and hit 7-0. Wednesday, November 21st. The Celtics pounded the Warriors 105 - 82. The Celtics went up by 9 pts at the end of the first and stayed in control the rest of the way. So what’s the problem? Garnett, Pierce, and Ray Allen averaged 35 minutes in blowout games!! (more…)

How Pat Riley Damaged Varejao’s Cavs Contract Negotiations
2007-12-10 12:50:51
OK — first, let me say this is a totally unsubstantiated conspiracy theory and that it has very little basis in fact. But considering how smart Riley is, and his predisposition to Machiavellian behavior, it seems likely that he would interfere in a conference rival’s free-agent negotiations if he thought it would help his team. Here’s how it happened (or at least how I would have done it if I were Riley): (more…)

Celtics Naysayers VINDICATED!
2007-12-19 21:14:47
I hope everyone in Boston watched the fourth quarter of tonight’s Celtics-Pistons game, because it perfectly highlighted everything that’s wrong with the Celtics. 1) Rajon Rondo is the weakest link. Sure, he had a good game stats wise, but how badly was he abused by Chauncey Billups? Don’t get me wrong, in two or three years Rondo is going to be one helluva player, but it’s much too soon to expect so much from someone so young. 2) The Celtics bench is weak. I’m amazed that anyone ever thought any different, but amazingly some people seem to think Boston has a good bench. Tonight’s game showed quite the opposite — Boston’s bench only scored 5 points and shot 22%!! A terrible performance. (more…)

The Nuggets Are About To Get A Whole Lot Better
2007-12-19 16:07:42
The Nuggets, in the words of the Nugg Doctor, have a lot to look forward to. Nene is getting ready to return, Chucky Atkins is coming back, and with the return of these two players (along with Steven Hunter) the Nuggets will have a healthy squad once again. With Nene’s return, the Nuggets have a dominant scoring big man that will allow Camby and Kenyon Martin to play more like they’re accustomed — off the ball, flying all over the court for blocks and rebounds. With Atkins return, the Nuggets will have a reliable shooter that will punish teams for loading up on A.I. and Melo’. But will it be enough? (more…)

10 Most Likely NBA Stars To Be Traded (Starting Tomorrow)
2007-12-14 10:21:53
As we all know, December 15th is an important date as far as making an NBA trade is concerned. By rule, it’s the first day that free agents signed during the summer can be traded. Typically, this flexibility opens up a lot of trade possibilities and triggers some shuffling. So, without further delay, here’s my list of the ten NBA players most likely to be traded beginning Dec. 15th. (more…)

Will Memphis Trade Mike Miller Away Next?
2008-02-01 20:01:12
Now that the Memphis Grizzlies have shipped out Pau Gasol for a rookie, an expiring contract, and two draft picks, it’s pretty clear that Memphis is all about dumping salary…which brings us to Mike Miller . Over-sized, over-paid and under-publicized, Mike Miller is a league-leading 3pt shooter that can pass a little and pull down a rebound [...]

Please, Trade Kidd To The Knicks
2008-01-28 00:53:09
It’s been said that Jason Kidd recently requested a trade through his agent, adding to the wild trade rumors that get NBA fans so excited every winter. I’ve spent the last couple of hours trying to figure out where Kidd would, could, or should go, and I’ve drawn a big zero. Unless it’s a three [...]

Minnesota: Trade Jaric and Craig Smith To Denver
2008-01-18 13:47:04
Minnesota doesn’t need Marko Jaric (but Adriana Lima does). His contract is expensive ($25 million left including this season). By the time the rest of the T-wolves hit their stride, Jaric (currently 29) is going to be too old to be of any use. Finally, Jaric’s not really known as a locker-room leader. He just [...]

Does Shaq Make Sense In Dallas?
2008-01-08 15:27:38
If you watched Dallas in last year’s playoffs, you know they needed a post player - bad. Dampier (who wasn’t available when Dallas was upset last year by Golden State) is really the Mav’s best post option right now, but he’s still coming back from injury…and let’s face it, Dampier’s not exactly a dominating presence.
