Why thank you Mrs. Gaggler! The award is to seek out and discover blogs that are a little more unique. The best part? Ahh yes, spreading the love to:1- Nap Warden of The Chronicles of a SAHM. She's my daily-cup-of-joke.5- Canape of Don't Take The Repeats. She's the best, sincerest, most loyal friend you always wished for. Her posts are beautiful, truthful and witty. And the Nap Warden of The Chronicles of a SAHM thinks I'm nice.

That Was Then, This Is Now
2007-09-02 11:48:00
I have always loved math and science. I favored having a theory or a finite solution to apply or derive.I credit my brother who works at NASA for exposing me to far-out theories and hands-on experiments. I remember watching my first shuttle launch and actually feeling my blood race with excitement through out my entire body, just waiting for my heart to burst into a tiny million pieces.LiveScience published a report called The Top 5 Myths About Girls and Science. These myths are obviously all false. STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering and MathMyth 1- Boys are more interested in science than girls in school.Myth 2- Promoting STEM to girls, indirectly turns off boys.Myth 3- Science and math teachers don't favor boys. Arrrrghhh.Myth 4- Parents can't motivate girls to take interest in science.Myth 5- Changing STEM curriculum in college is too risky. Sink or swim.I was 1 of only 4 girls to graduate with a Computer Science degree in 1995. That was then, this is now and things, they are

It's Confirmed

Not that I was wondering (denial, denial, denial) but based on these latest findings, I am not depressed. Take that! The London based study found that Moms who carry or cradle their children on their right side could be at a higher risk of depression.According to the study, there is no explanation why and the findings are not absolute. Insert frown here. Huh?Why don't these people go find a cure for cancer instead? Ok, I'm stepping off my podium now.I'm just saying.Click here to subscribe to the What Works For Us feed.

Bless my husband's heart for putting up with me and my little blogging addiction. My Therapist - Dr. Dyson
2007-09-25 20:49:00
As we all know (and as Bono himself sang) some days are better than others. When I'm stressed out, overwhelmed or even just in a funk, I make a date with my therapist. Often daily meetings are required. I remember coming home from the hospital after giving birth and needing him within a few hours. I also usually rely on him before family arrives. Even cranky baby days will force me to him.Let me introduce you to my therapist. Dr. Dyson . He's dependable. He doesn't talk. And he does the job.Now why I enjoy vacuuming, a completely brainless activity, I'll never know. Yes, enjoy. It started because my golden retriever sheds 14 pounds of fur daily. But now that I actually look forward to vacuuming...well, I'll just chalk it up to "a quirk". Likely one of many. And check this out. I might have to buy this for myself Bear for Christmas. A mini toy Dyson. Oh, if only it really worked. My son already mows the carpet, why not vacuum it! What were they thinking! So come on, what's your brainl

Get Ready Bdonk-A-Donk Butt
2007-09-24 14:50:00
Our house is getting smaller and the toys are getting bigger. We need a playroom and we need it yesterday.I'm not sure why relatives feel the need to continually buy us over-sized, non-collapsible toys. My sister, bless her heart not her mind, got our son a full-size tent with connecting tunnels and mazes for his first birthday. Adding insult to injury, he loves the thing.Out of the corner of my eye, I saw her sheepishly snicker when we opened the present and realized exactly how big the monstrosity was. It consumes the entire living room.Undoubtedly, she considers it as payback for all the noisy-without-volume-control-containing-1-million-parts-and-10,000-stickers- requiring-2-days-to-assemble-and-14-batteries toys we've bought their children over the years. With the housing market being what it is, we've decided to remodel a portion of our basement to add living space rather than look for a new house. And we've decided to do some of the work ourselves. Gulp. This frightens me to no

Self: Get The Nitrous Oxide
2007-09-18 13:42:00
Last week I had gum surgery. Before I went under I was given the choice to receive Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) to just "relax a little".I am offered this so infrequently, that I really wasn't sure if it was worthwhile. But since I rarely treat myself anymore, I decided to go for it. My big day out on the town. What the heck.Besides, she had me at "Relax".Self: when offered this in the future, always opt in for the nitrous oxide. I know the music being played was Josh Groban, I know there was a picture of a lovely beach on the ceiling and then I remember thinking this level of relaxation was far better than any spa treatment. Then I woke up. The party was over and pain was knocking at the door. But now, oh I can't wait for my next dental appointment. Even if they're only cleaning my teeth, I'm asking for the gas!Click here to subscribe to the What Works For Us feed.Subscribe to the What Works For Us feed.

OMG - What Have I Done?
2007-09-17 13:25:00
I have a knack for learning things the hard way.Since Bear was 5 months old, I've sat him in his Bumbo chair on the counter top of our kitchen island while I prepped his food right next to him. Without any drama. Just the way I like it.Last week, I turned my back. Just for an instant. To put yogurt back into the fridge. And then I heard a thud followed by a scream.Bear somehow got out of Bumbo and landed on the hardwood floor.Oh God, he's paralyzed. What have I done.He landed in a crawling position. Unharmed. Within 5 minutes he was crawling, walking, clapping and laughing. I on the other hand, started to shake uncontrollably. And 5 nights later, the visual and the panicked feeling is still firmly velcro'd to my head and heart.I know I shouldn't have turned my back. I know I shouldn't have put Bumbo on the counter. I know I am eternally lucky he wasn't hurt.I've been agonizing over this since it happened. It truly does only take an instant. Just like your Mom always told you it

Saving the world, one seedling a a time.We thought it would be fun to plant a small tree in honor of Bear's first birthday. To watch it grow. To play in its' shade someday. To marvel at its' beauty 30 years from now. So we've planted some roots and we're waiting for branches. Dental Work + Soft Foods = Crabby
2007-09-13 23:50:00
I'm having gum surgery today. I have to get a skin graft from the roof of my mouth to replace my lower gumline. Yay for me. But. The worst part is I have to eat soft foods (no straw, no chewing) for one entire month following surgery. Let me repeat, soft foods for one month. Oh. the. horror. I like me crunchy food! A lot. My last supper will consist of doritos, cheetos, chocolate chips and some hard candy. The best part is I'll be knocked out during surgery, so I'm hoping to finally catch up on some sleep. I fear the crabbiness odometer will be spiked for dear hubby by the end of week day 1. Needless to say, I've compiled a list of soft foods for any other poor soul looking for the same type of information.May I preface this list with a big fat bleh. BLEH! *Tacos (arrrgh)*Nachos (doh)*Ice-cream*Oatmeal*Fruit smoothies*Pureed veggies*Pureed chicken*Soup*Broth*Well-cooked rice*Mashed potatoes*Sweet potatoes*Scrambled eggs*Quiche (heh-heh)*Waffles*Pancakes*Pudding*Cream of Whe

Keeping Bees Away
2007-09-12 13:14:00
Tis the season and I'm not talking ho-ho-ho.We have bees everywhere right now. A trick we've learned to keep the bees away is to spray Avon's Skin So Soft. Apparently Avon re-formulated the SSS lotion to contain sunscreen and insect repellent. We frequently have bees hanging around our hummingbird feeders and by our patio table.By simply spraying Skin So Soft in an inconspicuous area really does keep them away. We've even spray it on the back of our son's coat in the fall to keep the bees off of him.It works for me! 9-11: Beyond Words
2007-09-11 11:54:00
"There's been a horrific accident."I was sitting in my office listening to Sara McLachlan's Building a Mystery, programming a software application when a co-worker rushed in and softly muttered those words the morning of September 11th. I knew when we couldn't load cnn.com or msnbc.com it was something bigger. The rest we all know is tragically, history. From business trips to broadway get-aways, many NYC excursions ended with a trip to the World Trade Center observation deck to marvel at the magnificent NYC skyline. So shortly after the 9-11 attacks we paid homage to sacred Ground Zero. To pay our respects. To see for ourselves. The sight, smell and sounds of Ground Zero was and still is indescribable. Yet permananetly etched in my mind. I can't begin to articulate something that is beyond words. Bigger than words. So on this 9-11 anniversary I am sharing photos of our Ground Zero homage. The pictures speak more than I could ever begin to. The sacred ground where the World T
