Tanjung Similajau, Bintulu 2007-09-30 09:25:00 It has been quite some time since I last visited Tanjung Similajau located north of Borneo, Sarawak. I was there recently, 18th September, and had the opportunity to trace back my footsteps when I first set foot on this place back in 1999.I remembered back in 1999, to reach Tanjung Similajau one had to endure some rather long miles of uncomfortable 4WD rides on oil palm dirt roads – maintained only sufficiently to allow for daily business ongoing of the plantation industry of the area – and all the while your journey is canvassed with oceans upon oceans of what seemed to be endless, mundane greenery known to all as oil palm trees. The Similajau region still is very much covered with this profit-making phenomenon, thanks to the ruling Government’s policy of maintaining the industry as one of the country’s main international export commodity. CPO’s the word. To the south of Tanjung Similajau is Similajau National Park – a totally protected area under the Malaysian and Sarawa
Sydney, Australia 2007-10-05 21:52:00 I have a colleague, Sam Curtis, who's Australia
n and he was describing his hometown to a group of us yesterday in one of our short in-house seminars. Sydney
is where he comes from and he said it is a terrific city for tourists. I've never been there myself (have only been to Brisbane about 9 years ago) but would definitely like to make my way there. First question that pops up in my head would be, what's the best way to fly there? Well that's easy. Wherever you are, I'm pretty sure you can get a flight to reach Sydney.Next big question would be, where to stay? Now that gets kind of tricky because you have to book from wherever you are in the world and hope that the place you secured is as you expect it to be. For a start, you can look through the list of hotels in Sydney which offer reasonable rates for avid travellers. I found out - thanks to the technology we refer to as the Net - that Sydney has a range of hotels you can consider, 3 to 5 star hotels all over the city. If y
A Home in Paradise 2007-10-05 20:58:00 Most of us dream of having a house on an island with beautiful, sunny weather all year round, sandy beaches just outside your doorstep, the relentless sound of waves breaking the shores. That would be paradise, wouldn't it? Added to that, you'll be waking up every morning to the mesmerising view of the sea and the beach, the sun rise greeting you with its hazy shade of orange glow far in the horizon. There are many places in the world like such that you can consider if you are seriously looking for a home in paradise.Among the first place that comes to mind would be, naturally, the islands of Hawaii. Paradise
in the Pacific that's what I'd say. Hawaii has plenty of islands which each have their own attraction and beauty. Before you decide on anything, it's best to find out more about the place you're interested in, what kind of price you are willing to pay, the kind of beach or sea views you'll get and the facilities that come with the property offered. Hawaii comprises si
Where to go for your next Holiday? 2007-10-18 09:27:00 Year end is coming up and most of us busy working people would now be looking forward to week-long holidays with family and loved ones. Being on an island with an equatorial climate allows me to enjoy hot, sunny weather almost all year round. Unless of course if it pours. Now where would you be thinking to go for a holiday this year? Locally or abroad? If you're thinking abroad, you should try checking out packages with the best all-in-one offers that is affordable to you. It's always about affordability for most of us young family people. For those of you wanting to go to fun, exotic places in the east such as India, then try to find holiday packages that will bring you to Goa. It's got one of the best beaches in the western coast of India. Panaji is the capital city of Goa and it offers a wide range of luxury hotels, cafes and bars, its streets are cobbledstoned with pastel-painted old buildings. If your holidays are somehow limited to just a day or two during Christmas and the New Read more:Holiday
Fascinating Sydney 2007-10-26 22:53:00 A couple of posts back I wrote about Sydney
, Australia. I've got this somewhat close interest with Australia of late probably because I'm currently working on a project of which the client is Australian. I've heard many interesting things about Sydney and what goes on in the city during the day, and especially at night. Sydney night-life is magic, they say. I asked if getting a place to stay in Sydney would burn a hole in your pocket. No, they said. As a matter of fact, there are plenty of cheap hotels in Sydney from what I found out.Any plans to go to Sydney? When you do find you way to Sydney, among the first pit stops to make would be Circular Quay, which is an area full of festivals and shops. From there you can walk up to the world-famous Sydney Opera House which was completed in 1973. It's a building with as great architectural significance as the Eiffel Tower or the Taj Mahal. Just next to it would be the Government House, a beautiful and historical building just south
Travelling in Asia 2007-10-26 20:03:00 When one speaks of Asia
, one is most inclined to imagine the myriads of different people that exist in Asia since Asia is ever so huge. India, China, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Phillipines, the list goes on. Tourists from Europe and countries in the West love to come to Asia simply because there's just so many different cultures to experience and appreciate. Even in one country you can have so many different, shall I call it, sub-cultures that has created different languages and different foods, etc.Asian themselves love to travel wihin Asia, and I've come across some very interesting and hilarious travel stories in Asia, thanks to this great mixture of so many different cultures. I've got friends from Denmark and Australia who have traveled quite extensively in South East Asia for the last couple of years and they say, Asia is so diverse that it gets to the point of becoming uniquely strange. I'm not quite sure what they meant by that but I'll share with you Read more:Travelling
The City of Miri, Sarawak - Staying at Park City Everly Hotel 2007-11-09 18:56:00 I'm sitting in the lobby of Park City Everly Hotel
in the city of Miri now, utilising their wifi to connect to the net and conjuring my mind to regurgitate this post. The weather looks fine and sunny from where I'm sitting, showing good signs of how the rest of the day will be like too, at least for this city. It's my first time staying in this hotel, everything looks clean, the bed, the floors of the room, the bathroom. The room I'm in, which I believe is a deluxe superior type of some sort (because it has two queen-sized beds in it) has an interesting view of the newly-constructed marina resort area, built on reclaimed land. I think the project belongs to Samling group of companies (as with most developments in this region). The hotel is strategically located along one of Miri's main roads and is very accessible if you plan to come to Miri for business purposes or even for leisure. As I sit here on this table especially provided for wifi users, I can't help but noticing th Read more:Sarawak
Ever thought of getting a Vacation Rental for your next Holiday? 2007-12-04 08:22:00 When I travel with the family, we more often than not would be staying in the most affordable hotels with the best possible scenery from the 10th floor or something like that. Or a resort of some sort which offers almost everything that you can swipe your credit card with, and some more. While planning for my short December trip this year, I came across some information on places around the world which offer vacation rentals, i.e. an entire residential that you can rent out for the duration of your holiday. These vacation homes are somewhat affordable and not any more expensive or luxurious than the resort rooms and 4 or 5 star hotels that you'd be normally paying for.Vacation
rentals offer many advantages when compared to renting hotel rooms or resorts. They offer more room, flexibility, amenities, freedom and privacy than a standard hotel room or resort often for less money. The typical vacation rental or beach house offers far more space than a resort or hotel room. A hotel room Read more:thought

Sarawak's Future Business Hub - Bintulu 2008-02-12 20:14:00 Already referring to it as my second home now, Bintulu is a town worth noting for I believe in the very near future it will transform into one of Sarawak
's most prominent towns in terms of business and industrial development, out pacing other more established cities or towns such as Sibu or Miri in Sarawak.I personally like Bintulu as it is now for the fact that it's ever so easy to get around. You can get to almost any part of the town in just a matter of minutes (well, maybe not when school is out). There is hardly any traffic jam or congestion (except for of course when school is out) and it's just a far cry from Kuching City or even Miri. Of course, being a small-ish town also means you don't get the luxury of getting everything that you'd expect from the metropolises. It provides Read more:Future

Having a great time at Darling Habour, Sydney, Australia 2008-01-23 03:19:00 A few posts back (my post on October 27th 2007 to be exact) I wrote about interesting places to visit in Sydney
, Australia
. Here's a bit more info on places to visit in Sydney, focusing on one of the city's most popular arts, entertainment, shopping and leisure spot, Darling Harbour.Darling Harbour is a modern leisure area on the waterfront to the west of the city. It was developed in the 1980's from a previous dockland region. Here you will find the country's largest cinema screen — eight storeys high — at the Imax Theatre. Lying north of it is the Sydney Aquarium and the more recent Sydney Wildlife World. Sydney Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in the world with more than 5000 different Australian fish displayed in their natural habitats. Visitors can "walk on the ocean f Read more:Having
Visiting Italy's Interesting Places 2008-01-15 18:22:00 One of the places I have always wanted to visit is of course, Italy
. We're all familiar with the cities of Rome, Venice, Milan and Florence, just to name a few. Rome is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the European Union. Visitors come from around the world to see famous landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Forum and the Patheon. You might want to throw three coins into Trevi Fountain, climb the Spanish Steps and later enjoy some latte in Piazza Navona. At Vatican City, you can visit St. Peter's Cathedral and enjoy its fountains, statues and the church dome. At the Vatican Museum, you won't want to miss the masterpieces of Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael or the Sistine Chapel. Rome's two main airports are the Leonardo Da Vinci and Ciampino A Read more:Places
Greece and its Ancient Civilisation 2008-01-13 09:08:00 I have a good American friend, Dr. Paul Taiganides, who simply loves his Greek roots. In fact, he carries the legacy of Greece
with him anywhere he goes. Greece is a country of a rich cultural heritage. Democracy was invented in Athens, Greek culture is the mother of Roman culture and has very much influenced other civilisations. Famous places to visit include the coast of the Aegean Sea, the Peloponnesus with antique Olympia, the host of the 2004 Olympic Games (Athens) with its Parthenon on the Acropolis, or Thessaloniki in the north. The main destinations in Greece include but are not limited to Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Rhodes, Corfu, Kos, Kefalonia and several others in the Cyclades, Dodecanese, Ionian Islands and Sporades islands. Visiting Germany and Austria 2008-01-13 07:01:00 When one mentions Germany
, more often than not I would think of football, beer festivals and fast cars. But there is of course more to Germany than all that. With a rich cultural tradition and gorgeous landscapes, it’s easy to imagine why so many find a wealth of attractions in Germany. The country possesses a bustling nightlife, numerous holidays and festivals, and picturesque scenery. Composed of sixteen states, each with their own personality, Germany is a major industrialized nation. But don’t let that fool you—there are miles and miles of natural wonders to behold: from the Black Forest to the Bavarian Alps to the beaches on the Baltic and North Seas. Other interesting places worth visiting would be Cologne Cathedral, Neuschwanstein, Heidelberg Castle, Checkpoint Charlie and Read more:Austria
Visiting beautiful Paris 2007-12-30 04:50:00 Paris is a city which one would associate with romanticism and great classical architecture. Before you visit the City of Lights as it is commonly known as, take some time to educate yourself on the interesting places and locations that you should not miss when you are there before you book your accommodation in Paris Hotels. The L'Arc de Triomphe is a place you should visit on your tour of the city. Built in honor of the French Army and unveiled in 1836, the top of the Arc de Triomphe offers a grand panoramic view. The Eiffel Tower which needs no introduction, is an architectural wonder and a jewel by night. Commissioned in 1887 for the World Fair, it stands as one of the world's most visited and widely recognized attractions. Once there, you'll be rewarded with a spectacular view of t Read more:Paris

Crocs in the Suburbs 2007-09-09 22:33:00 For those of you who are into prehistoric reptiles, pay a visit to the famous Jong's Crocordile Farm in the suburbs of Kuching City. The farm is located about 30km south of the city, you can get there by driving south along the Kuching-Serian Road and take a left turn at a junction just after you pass through Siburan township (see map attached). The signboard is not too great, so be sure to slow down once you pass under an overhead crossing and a Chinese school on your left side (Siburan town is on your right). My wife and son were there a few months back. Apart from crocs, they also have other animals such as the bear cat, wild boars and jungle fowls. Be sure to keep your hands in your pockets! Read more:Crocs

Sea, Sand and a Lot of Sun 2007-09-03 04:02:00 Sometimes I would ask myself, now where is a good place to go for a vacation where I can enjoy endless sandy beaches, a beautiful view of the sea and plenty of sun? These days it's easier to do so with the Net almost giving you at-your-fingertips information about almost any place in the world that you'd want to visit. But you need information that's reliable and up-to-date and comprehensive, i.e. it's got to tell you almost everything you need to know about what the place has to offer prior to you jetting off to your desired destination. So with that in mind I've resorted to a site or two, one of them is this one on vacations. Now I'm very much a beach and sand and sun person, so getaways to the seaside or an island resort is always my first choice. I would very much like to visit places
Travelling Days and Places to Stay 2007-08-27 20:59:00 I used to travel quite a lot while I was still studying overseas in the UK. During most of the summer breaks I'd be planning ahead with my mates on the next venue to visit or venture. I've been to Turkey (Ankara and Istanbul), quite fun that was. Amsterdam was cool. Plus some others, mostly Europe. Travel was mostly done using trains which, at the time and probably still is, the most cost-efficient means to travel across the European continent. You travel for long hours most days, and if you haven't a posse of fun individuals to travel with, you'd get bored pretty quickly. When you travel as a student, most of the time you only spend on travel fares, food and the occasional lodging (if you don't end up sleeping at the train station). It's got to be cheap, as cheap as the word goes. I never Read more:Places
