More Meera
2007-08-21 13:31:00
Meera is a movie actress from Pakistan. She is based in Lahore. Through late 2004 and early 2005, she worked on her first Bollywood project Nazar, directed by Soni Razdan. This movie was the first joint production between India and Pakistan. It was released in February 2005. It immediately landed in trouble with the Pakistani Government, who objected strongly to a scene where she kisses the hero (played by Ashmit Patel of India), on religious and moral grounds. Allegedly, Meera has been fined an undisclosed amount for the kiss. Reportedly, the Pakistani Government is also considering a ban on Pakistani actors from working on Indian projects. Later doubts were placed on Meera’s claim that she had been fined when the Pakistani government denied placing any fines on Meera for the kiss. Mahesh Bhatt, the film’s producer has been known for antics such as these to gain popularity for his movie projects. She had also claimed to have received death threats that were strongly dispu

2007-08-20 19:04:33
The latest gossip doing the rounds is that Bollywood actress Preity Zinta is set to tie the knot with Ness Wadia, the great grandson of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. The award winning Indian actress started dating Ness, son of Bombay Dyeing owners Nusli and Maureen Wadia, in February 2005, reports the Daily Times. The couple’s relationship went through a bad patch earlier this year after singer Suchitra Krishnamurthy blamed Preity for her divorce with Shekhar Kapur. Krishnamurthy alleged that the actress was having an affair with her director husband. The news of the wedding has come after several reports of cold vibes between Zinta and Wadia’s mother Maureen had been circulated by the media.

Buddha Mar Gaya - Movie Review
2007-08-19 17:11:27
Starring : Anupam Kher, Om Puri, Paresh Rawal, Mahbanoo Mody-Kortwal, Rakhi Sawant Directed by Rahul RawailRating: None Whose laash is it anyway? Decades ago Kundan Shah killed us with laughter in a comedy about a corpse that needed curious manoevering. To his corny credit, Anupam Kher plays an inert deathly-still corpse in Rawail’s feel-crude film as convincingly as Satish Shah did in Kundan Shah’s film. But the catchline ‘You’ll Die Laughing’ is not really applicable in Buddha Mar Gaya…. one just dies of shock and shame watching the director of such modern classics as Arjun and Dacait plunge to unimaginable heights of infantile crudity. The ensemble cast of this pitch-black comedy is devoid of all motivation except a searing self-serving greed. Every member of this multi-millionaire malfunctional family scoffs at all moral values and sniggers at finer sentiments. In a sense Rawail’s family’s complete lack of innocence is in direct and devil

Salman left for Jodhpur on a flight from Mumbai at 11.30 am. Speaking to reporters before getting into his SUV outside his residence, Salman said, “A warrant has been apparently issued and as per advice from my lawyers, I am going to Jodhpur to surrender.” “Nobody has told me to get there but I am going there as a responsible citizen who abides by the law,” he added. Please pray for me and thank you.” The macho actor began serving his six-year sentence on July 31 — less the 16 months he served while awaiting trial over the bomb attacks that killed 257 people in India’s commercial capital of Mumbai in 1993. Dutt, 48, stepped out of the jail in Pune city and shook the hands of police officers before leaving for home. Dressed in a white, striped shirt, he

Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen plans autobiography
2007-08-29 10:45:00
Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen has decided to write an autobiography with the tentative title “The Butterfly.” A former Miss Universe, Sen said she has already begun writing chapters, a newspaper reported Wednesday. She said the inspiration for the title came from one of her favourite sayings — “what the world calls the end of a caterpillar’s life, God calls a butterfly.” “I have written some portions of it,” The Times of India newspaper quoted Sen saying. “And yes, the working title is called ‘The Butterfly.’” A model-turned-actress, Sen was crowned Miss Universe in 1994 and has since acted in 30 Hindi-language movies. Sen plays a widow in an updated version of a Bollywood classic “Sholay,” or “Embers,” to be released this week. She played a rock star in her last film, “Zindagi Rocks,” or “Life Rocks,” and a prostitute in an earlier movie “Chingari,” which also translates to “Embers” in Hindi. http://www.thewest.com.au/default.aspx?Menu

Bollywood: ‘Heyy Babyy’ Makes a Great Start
2007-08-28 22:24:00
Going by the initial response, trade analysts say Sajid Nadiadwala’s Heyy Babyy is a sure-fire blockbuster. Starring Akshay Kumar, Reteish Deshmukh, Fardeen Khan and Vidya Balan, debutante director Sajid Khan’s film has taken an unprecedented opening at the box-office.Manoj Desai, proprietor of Gaiety Galaxy, says: “The opening is bumper. It is 100 per cent houseful till Tuesday. And considering that the capacity of Gaiety is 1,000 seats, it is an indication that the film is well-received by both the balcony, as well as the stall audience.”Trade analyst Amod Mehra feels that only if the huge opening continues will Heyy Babyy become a big hit. “It is a very well made film,” he adds. The combination of comedy and marketing did the magic, feels Geerish Wankede, head, PR and Corporate Communications, Cinemax. “The collections are very encouraging. Everyone seems to be very happy after watching the film. Well executed comedies work big time, and add

2007-08-28 22:21:00
One week into the year and it is time to talk business again. The first three months see a series of important releases, that can well indicate how 2007 will shape up for our film industry.Last year, in fact, there weren’t too many important releases in the first quarter, except Family, Zinda, Taxi No 9211, Rang De Basanti and Malamaal Weekly. The last two did superb business and Taxi… was average. However, some small films like Being Cyrus made profits. This year starts with a bang:January has Mani Ratnam’s Guru (Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai), Nikhil Advani’s Salaam-e-Ishq (Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Govinda), Ahmed Khan’s Fool ’n’ Final (Sunny Deol, Viveik Oberoi).February sees Reema Kagti’s Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Limited (Boman Irani, Kay Kay Menon, Raima Sen, Ameesha Patel), Madhur Bhandarkar’s Traffic Signal (Kunal Khemmu and Neetu Chandra), Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Eklavya-The Royal Guard (Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan

Their hairstyles are completely over the top. I hope people love the fun aspect. There is drama and a love story too,” says Farah.“Khoya Khoya Chand is about two people who get caught in the mad world of the 50s and 60s. Nikhat is a young 18-year-old person, who’s mother pushes her into the film industry,” says Mishra.Although both films are set in the Hindi film industry, Om Shanti Om and Khoya Khoya Chand are as different as chalk and cheese. They are, however, much in the same spirit as the previous films mad

Glamorous Mat Kaho Na: Lara Dutta
2007-09-02 13:49:07
It hasn’t been a easy time for the luminous Lara. If she’s been missing from the line of hyper-action for the past year it’s because, Lara Dutta has been looking after her ailing parents. “They were both in hospital. So I was either with them, or shooting in Dubai and London. My first priority was my parents. And I had no time or appetite for networking and socializing.” Apart from other problems at home her cell number has been quite an irritant. “They gave me a new number that apparently belonged to Mahesh Manjrekar. I kept getting calls from him.” The cell faux pas came to such a head that Lara would first clarify that it was Mr Manjrekar’s number before proceeding with conversations. She laughs heartily at the Priyadarshan-like confusion. Laughter comes easily to her after the success of No Entry and Bhagam Bhag. “No film in recent times did more for me than No Entry. I wanted to do lighter films. And No Entry gave me that lee

Casting Ouch: Shilpa Vs Ash
2007-09-02 13:18:49
‘Pink Panther 2′ casting has now become the hotly debated issue in Bollywood. Contrary to latest media reports, Aishwarya’s international agent Simone Sheffield says, “Ms Rai was the first and only choice to play Sophie in the Hollywood film Pink Panther 2.” The casting director Ilene Starger too endorses this fact by saying, “We did not offer the role to anyone other than Aishwarya. Period. Ash was the actress I envisioned when I read the script. Her intelligence, beauty and sophistication are just what the role requires. She fits in wonderfully with our fantastic ensemble cast, and all of us are thrilled to work with her.” A couple of actresses claim to have refused the role Ash is starring in. It’s sad. If either of them had been offered a role in such a big budget international film, they’d have jumped at the opportunity instead of passing it up.” Giving her side of story to SantaBanta, Simone says, “Please look at the or

Can Lara match Aishwarya’s Paro?
2007-09-02 13:15:28
After Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit, Lara Dutta and Soha Ali Khan have been chosen to play Paro and Chandramukhi in Sudhir Mishra’s modern version of Devdas titled Aur Devdas. While Soha is yet to sign on the dotted line, Lara has done the needful. They will portray the two classic parts in Sudhir Mishra’s version of Devdas being produced by Pritish Nandy Communications. The film will be shot in September. Mishra’s Chandramukhi will not be a dancer. She’ll be an investment banker. Paro evolves into a politician. The film will be a gritty political drama. Says Lara, “I’m very excited. I’ve wanted to work with Sudhir Mishra for a long time. And now we’ve the perfect script.” Playing Paro after Aishwarya in Bhansali’s Devdas is just the challenge Lara was looking for. Both Lara and Soha were not the first choices for their roles. Earlier Rani Mukerji was approached to play Paro while for Chandramukhi’s portrayal, the makers wanted Esha Deol. But

‘I wanted none other than Aishwarya’
2007-09-02 13:10:49
Refuting rumours about other Bollywood actors being offered a role in “Pink Panther 2″, its casting director Ilene Starger said they only considered Aishwarya Rai. “Most emphatically, we did not offer the role to anyone other than Aishwarya! Aishwarya was, when I first read the script, the actress I envisioned for the role,” Starger told from Los Angeles in an e-mail interview. Aishwarya shot for a day with Steve Martin and Andy Garcia in Paris Aug 20 for the film by Harold Zwart. “Her intelligence, grace, beauty and sophistication are just what the role requires. And, of course, she has a touch of mystery too. She fits in wonderfully with our fantastic ensemble cast, and all of us involved with the film are thrilled to work with her.” Rumours had it that Celina Jaitley was offered the role first but rejected it. Also, Hrithik Roshan was asked to play detective Clouseau’s assistant Vincent in part two of the comedy, but he too turned it down. H
